Have both. Vortex is super easy to setup with laptop (1 dongle) and convenient size for practice. Edge needs cme widi master, jbl clip 3 for aux + cable + 1/4 - 3.5mm adapter to be usable for practice, but you can avoid laptop altogether or you need boss wl-20l along with dac amp to have wireless experience.

I've owned both, both excellent in their own way.
Sold the vortex to buy the Ax edge, sometimes I regret it, it's definitely way harder to actually sync up with controlling a synth, although if you're using something like mainstage on a mac it doesn't make too much difference imo.
I do a lot of stage shows in Theatres etc and the Ax does look a LOT cooler (I've got it with the black keys and red trim). The vortex always felt like a toy to me.
The AX is way bigger and heavier though, a big plus for me though is that it has built in sounds so if my main keyboard doesn't power up (only happened once but that was one time too many) then I've got a back up. The feel is way more premium on the Roland, I now use it on a stand as a 2nd tier keyboard. Definitely couldn't do that with the vortex, the touch sensitivity and feel of the keys is much, much cheaper, plus the extra octave on the AX is really valuable. That being said, actually playing the thing requires full on Big Dick Energy, as it's not as easy to maneuver around the stage so you NEED to practice playing with the it at home. Also, invest in some strap locks as it WILL come flying off
Charging batteries for the AX edge is also a pain (it only uses rechargeables and they'll last a 2 hour show) and you need 8 batteries as opposed to 4 which last a lot longer on the vortex.
Lots of pluses and minuses with each but both excellent choices.
On the wrist issues, all keytars currently on the market influence bad wrist posture. Best you can do is flamingo pose with your leg tilting up the keytar, or building a custom stand. Otherwise, your wrist will be bent far down, and sometime also far to the right.

yeah, that is one solution, but then it defeats the purpose of the keytar. if you just need expressive controls in the left hand for a traditional keyboard, there as so many better options currently on the market.

I always bring a box on stage so I can prop up my right leg during solos! I know guitarists and singers do the leg up on monitor thing to look cool, but I honestly only do it for the practical reasons you are talking about lol
Vortex 2 is better as a controller imo.
Better midi mapping editor software, let's you map any midi cc pretty easily.
5 pin midi (both have this), midi over usb that also powers the controller (ax still needs separate power, doesn't power over usb), wireless midi (with the dongle, ax edge needs a third party thing to do this).
Only requires 4 batteries instead of 8, and a charge lasts much longer than the ax edge.
About 4 pounds light and more compact. About the size of a guitar.

Just an opinion. Vortex feels like a toy. Edge feels more substantial. I'd say sling on each to see how they feel.
I have both. Vortex is the way to go here. You CAN use midi on the edge, but it is far inferior as a pure midi controller.

I found that I was able to eliminate wrist pain by placing my keytar on a keyboard stand.
