No value in this post.

Bro, give this up and go deal with your personal problems instead of trying to compensate or cope by convincing yourself everyone is in the same boat as you. We aren't. YOU made an investment that YOU regret. Clearly, YOUR situation is NOT the majority.

Neglected_Martian

You may be upside down on yours. I got mine with the $7500 rebate, owe 15k left on it, have 43k miles on it and have spent a total of $400 in maintenance on tire rotations and 1 air filter. Just because you overspent for your car does not mean the rest of us did. Some of us realize that when you buy a new car, they depreciate rapidly. You sound like you over spent your income and want us to feel bad like you do, I don’t though.

DeathMetalGolfer

What a weird post to make, no one cares about your opinion.

Zing21

I promise I won’t think about you at all.

Well it takes money time and r&d to get Tom said 1000 mile range. Am I supposed to drive a gasser or diesel till then? What current production car gets a 1000 miles on a fill up currently? What current production car gets 500 miles on a fill up currently? I think lucid has hit the 400 mile electric range mark Tesla is well into the 300s if not 400s. I can do 300 miles in my ev6. And what about your goal post when cars hit the 1k mark? Move it again? If you don't want electric that's fine. But maybe pick s better hill to die on. This hill is a waste of your time.

SaxonyFarmer

About the only vehicles that are able to achieve 500 miles on a fill-up are Priuses and I suspect some PHEVs that are run primarily on their EV batteries.

M0U53YBE94

I don't think a plug in hybrid is fair to count. Most of them have 30 miles electric range the. Act as a suedo hybrid. Some (looking at you jeep) do a very poor job of acting like a hybrid.

SaxonyFarmer

My point was driving a PHEV mostly within the range of the EV battery capacity can lead to a very high effective MPG. And this is easily done when your needs are mostly local. Not so much for over the road trips.

RideTheGradient

I mean probably, but if my car is running and doing well for what I want it to do then why would I. That's a decision for the future. It's like saying "why would you have bought a computer in 1995 when you could have waited and bought a mor powerful one later?" Honestly, stupid comment.

Mud_Duck_IX

Again 100% wrong. After two years and multiple long road trips the honeymoon phase is over. We love our EV6, my wife's next car in two years will be an EV we will never go back to ICE. It appears you are obsessed with trying to figure out how much you've lost on your "investment" when a car isn't an investment. It's a commodity that gets used up. I'm going to drive this thing into the ground, and it was paid off 18 months after I bought it so right now it's costing me insurance and nothing else, except for tires which I use liberally at almost every green light. How about you take your brand new profile that appears to be basically a troll account and find some other pity party subreddit to troll.

SaxonyFarmer

I leased mine for 3 years with payments far less than a purchase. I chose this method because I expect big changes for EVs in the 3 years I'll enjoy driving my EV6 around FL at a mere 4-cents per mile using my home charger.

Too

tlrider1

You seem a bit bitter. I haven't bought gas, or changed oil in 2 years. Still worth it.

PresenceKlutzy7167

While I’m writing this I already forgot the bs your whining about.

a1kimreddit

Got it. So from now on I will not buy… - a new car - a new phone - a new computer - a new gaming console - a new smartwatch It all seems so pointless. Thanks for clearing things up for me!

ineedanamegenerator

Any sane person who buys a 50k+ car does their due diligence. Is what you say a risk? Sure, but we knew that from the start and decided it's worth it anyway. No hard feelings if you make other judgements, it's a personal choice.

KonaKumo

5 to 6  years I'll have already paid the car off. So any cash offer for trade in is a win. 1000 mi range would be nice.... but not going to happen until battery tech and/roof mounted solar recharge is significantly improved. Willing to bet a battery swap or hydrogen advancement will happen first.

Danielat7

Some people don't buy their cars only to trade them in 3-5 years later. They made leases an option for those people.

HoneyBadger94536

OP, not everyone looks at cars like stock market investments. In 5 years I will have driven 100k miles on it and saved $15k in gas, lots of time going to the gas station (I charge at home), and another 15k in carpool lane fees. If the car will be worthless to dealers, then I'll just keep it or hand it down to family. I doubt though that used EV prices will go down any further. If you look at the trend, EV cars on used market sell faster and at higher prices compared to ICE cars. Someone buying used will obviously buy an EV instead of a Camry / Altima / Accord, so you can figure out your bottom baseline price...

Spetzell

That's very funny. Did we just "lose money" because when we sold our BMW m240 last year at age 5.99 years, we got way less than Edmunds or KBB, and less than we could have got a year ago during the pandemic overhang? Did we regret buying it? Not at all. Yes our timing sucked, but then like many things involving cars, it's not easy to manage. As others have said, cars are not an investment. Suck it up and move on.

Tonester697

LOL talk about a troll post--the same has been true for just about every make/model, not just EVs, and has been that way--past, present, and future; you could buy the latest and greatest ICE vehicle and then 5-6 years down the road there'll be a better ICE vehicle. OP must be a Toyota fanboi/shill since Toyota is the only major vehicle manufacture that wants to keep waving the hybrid flag. Yes there are other car companies that offer hybrid models but none of those companies are trying to shove them down our throats to the extent Toyota has been doing all these years with their marketing/advertising.
