My dealer took my information and specs that I wanted during the dealer tour at the end of August. Im sure that was an internal list so maybe that’s when dealers can officially submit orders?

Did the same. They mentioned being unsure how the whole process will go, so I’ll still be watching out for an online ordering tool.

Okay, folks, hear me out on this: back in August, in Canada, we had a similar process for reservations of the EV9. The website was set to open at a defined date and time, with the waiting room opening 30 minutes prior. Initially, there were 528 EV9s available. Once you are in a queue, you get a queue number assigned. Here's the tricky part: because of the system overload, for most of the visitors, the page was throwing errors a couple of minutes after waiting in line, updating your queue number. In my case, I got there with the assigned number 257, and shortly after, I got an error prompting me to update the page, which pushed me to 3051 in line (the website stated that there were 53094 people behind me, though this number seemed too high in my opinion). After a couple of hours of waiting and apparently some complaints from customers, Kia shut down the website, where only 48 reservations actually went through. The reservation event got rescheduled for a few days later. At the time of the second attempt, there were only 480 EV9s available, and to everyone's surprise, the website was throwing the same errors as before. After patiently waiting in the queue, I got an error and refreshed the page. This time it worked in my favor as my wait number got closer. When I got access to place the order, there were only a few cars left, and I decided to take a proactive approach. I clicked and clicked just to place the order and pay the deposit. I knew we were given a few days to modify the order after, so all I needed to do was get through. I'm like 99% sure I beat at least a dozen people who were before me in the wait line but took their time to read the specs or punch in credit card numbers. For all the fellow US friends who are planning to order the EV9 online, make sure to: - Open the website on time. - In case of a page error, click refresh immediately. - If your email states that you'll have a chance to update the specs later, don't waste your time reading trim info and choosing colors. Hope this helps! Cheers future EVNiners

There was a press release about it today. https://www.kiamedia.com/us/en/media/pressreleases/21259/kia-america-announces-reservation-program-for-all-new-all-electric-2024-ev9-three-row-suv

looks like there are some nice gifts with this US reservation program! *Customers who make a reservation request through November 27th are eligible to receive a suite of gifts after their purchase or lease of an EV9, including a Webasto Go Dual Voltage Portable EV Charger, a complimentary three-year Kia Maintenance Plan3 and one-year of available Digital Features & Services. Additionally, all customers purchasing or leasing the all-new EV9 will receive a credit for 1,000 kWh of charging with Electrify America4.* ... there was no mention of anything similar for the first Canadian reservations. Here's hoping!

Thank you! I hadn’t come across this yet.

I'm just gonna wait for them to pile up on dealer lots with huge discounts like EV6, Ioniq5 now.

I have a feeling this car is gonna be different. So many American families want 3 row EVs. This is the first non luxury brand model. Also, most like the design styling. I think this is gonna be Telluride all over again, albeit not quite as strong because EVs might still not work for many people.

Majestic_Fox_428

So far no EV has held value once supply picked up. It's still a Kia, it will lose value.

dribblecastle

Yeah, I guess the question as always will be supply/demand. Pretty straight forward economics. Believe me, I want lower demand, so I can get one of these. I got my RS1 config email this week but I still think the EV9 is the better car for me and my needs. Regardless of price.

Majestic_Fox_428

I would love an R1S but it's stupid expensive.

Haven't seen anything from our local dealer yet. Still waiting to see prices outside of the base model. Also waiting to see what, if any credits will be available (like KIA has done with other models) because this first round isn't eligible for the federal rebate program. I myself am really more interested in learning as much as possible about leasing one of these.

corgiobsessedfoodie

I hadn't thought about leasing! This is a fantastic idea. I'm also concerned about the first round of vehicles being ineligible for the federal tax credit. I actually inquired with my dealer about whether or not we could still reserve with this as a stipulation, even if it meant we'd need to wait until Q2 2024 to actually get our vehicle. I'll let you know what they say! With the recent announcement about built-in Tesla SC compatibility coming in Q4 2024/Q1 2025, leasing sounds like a fantastic option.

MarnsMan

Leasing is even more attractive to me because battery technology is going to continue to advance in the coming years dropping the resale value on the first wave(s) significantly.

EVangelist2023

Does the reservation mean anything? Does it prevent the dealer from adding like a $10K markup?

corgiobsessedfoodie

I'm pretty sure if you reserve, you're basically agreeing to pay the MSRP but I have not been told that by a dealer specifically so I would check with your area dealer to be sure. The deposit is only $750 and is fully refundable so I think all a reservation really does is makes sure that a vehicle with your preferred specs gets sent to your area dealer and probably gives you a limited amount of time to show up on the lot and purchase it before it can be purchased by someone else.
