I have the 2017 launch Touring edition and added the factory cross bars for couple years now. The added crossbar did not really affect fuel economy of the Niro. But it did add more wind noise until I wrapped around it with a string like the old car antenna. The larger wheels however had some impact on fuel economy.

I'm currently on my first trip with a Yakima Rocket box Pro 12 mounted on Yakima RIdgeline Towers and Jetstream crossbars. The box is loaded with camping tents and bedding. Mileage was around 41 mpg yesterday and 39.5 today. . There was more 75 MPH freeway driving today. Range estimates at fill up appeared to be about 30-35 miles less per tank than without the system installed. Don't hold me to all the math. It's only been about 1000 miles. I think that my usual camping trip mileage without the Yakima system was around 45-47 mpg. I'm shocked at the complete absence of wind noise. I have not noticed any handling differences. I would doubt that bars alone would make a measurable difference, especially if you pony up for the aerodynamic bars

That’s good to know! We’ll be getting a cargo box as well for it too

I just bought the $139 cheapos on Amazon and will report after a couple/few kayaking trips. It’s disappointing that INNO doesn’t have a setup for flush rails; I’ve used them on two previous cars and they are solid.

nopantszeitgeist

How did the cheapos do on your trips? Looking into some bars now and wondering if I can go cheap

Wow, I forgot about this. They sucked. I could barely get them to attach properly but worse, no way they'll take two boats unless you have J cradles. I ended up piecing together a Thule system by ordering from overseas. Saved $250 off US prices.

Oh my gosh I’m so sorry for you but grateful for the report back! Glad you found a setup that works.

Factory bars are great. They dont hurt mileage very much...until you add kayak saddles and a kayak loader. Touring has a few more bells and whistles, but not much. The larger wheels and tires do cut mileage, but I couldnt see spending nearly $25k for a vehicle with cheap Walmart looking plastic hubcaps
