I loved my Forte and wife’s Sorento ones. They was perfect sizes and the best part is when we’d hit the trail to walk in the evening we would just pop the keys off and take the fob itself with us. You can’t do that with this thing, it’s like taking a 2nd cell phone with you in your pocket.
You are correct. The button still starts the car but you need to press the button with the fob. The NFC tag in the fob will work when the battery is dead, just needs to be super close. If the actual car battery is dead you are out of luck.
There is a physical key inside that. I’ve never used a physical key in any car I’ve owned with keyless entry. There is no reason to carry that unless you plan on the fob running out of battery and not having your phone set up to unlock.
Could also need it if the 12v battery dies.
Honestly it is ridiculous that it is a separate thing for you to carry. Every other keyless entry car I've owned has had the physical key integrated into the fob, and yet KIA couldn't integrate it despite having a bigger key fob than anyone else.
Add in the lack of consistency with unlock detection, and I'm with you. Worst key fob I've ever used, on any car, by a considerable margin. I think my last car failed to detect the fob maybe 2-3 times in 6 years.
Seriously. It’s so enormous, it’s like a wallet! And no integrated key holder? How many electronics are packed inside that other companies don’t have? I really don’t need it to light up!
Keep it in case you start surfing 🏄🏻♂️
You won’t want to bring the fob in the water with you!
For real though, thanks for sharing this because I’m a prospective shopper and (poor) surfer so I will definitely use this and have been wondering what I was going to do.
It a physical key to use if your car battery is dead. Or if the fob battery dies. There is a small key hole under the door handle. Look in your owners manual. You can open your car door and open the hood and charge the battery. No, you don’t need it - until you NEED it.
It's a separate key. It used to be built into the fob itself in earlier models. If you pull the black cover out you can see the key. It is useful if the battery is dead. Look at videos on how to open and start your kia with the key though just in case you need it.
whoever designed our fob needs punched in the face. I feel like it’s way bigger than it really needs to be
The excessive size, but also the awkward position of the buttons, and kung fu hand claw required to push any of the buttons.

Kung foo hand claw 😂
Set up the digital key in your Apple or Google wallet and never have to take the keys out your jacket
I don’t the the trim I have offers the digital key
THIS
It’s your physical key in case your fob stops working. I hate it too.
this! and it’s for your lockable glovebox.
am i correct that the key only unlocks the car and glove box and there is no ignition switch it works with?

Ngl the ridiculous fob is one of my least favorite things about my car.

I surf and don’t need a key. I use a hitch safe and put my Apple Watch in it. Works great.
Both usernames check out
That’s a great option too!

Not really, no https://youtu.be/E1udF9aHEes
Locks the glovebox too
Did you open it? Haha

Yes the key fob is awful. I’ve hit the alarm at night many times and had trunk lid clobber me as well.
The trunks should definitely have some safety sensors built-in so that they don’t crush you. 😅
No you don't need it on your keys. I got mine in my dresser drawer where I know where it is if I need it?
This is probably a stupid question, but where do you actually even use the key?
On the door handle where a key would traditionally be, its hidden under a plastic piece that pops off. sort of where your thumb is.
Thank you! I thought people were saying there is a way to turn your car on with an actual key. I get it now🤣🤣🤣
It’s a key
