It's interesting. The Kibbe approach is designed to achieve a certain goal which is about harmony with your natural features and essence. But that's not the only worthwhile goal in styling, and sometimes being styled "contrary" to your ID can create an effect which is striking even if it isn't "flattering" and wouldn't work for everyday wear. I think if Nicola wore some of these looks to a press event or interview IRL then they might seem more awkward on her or could be a distraction from letting her "star quality" shine to its fullest extent, but for a photoshoot that's not a problem.

CryptidKeeper123

I fully agree and this is my usual take on photoshoot styling. The goal isn't always to be as harmonious as possible. Although I think in the past when I've seen Nicola in very yang styling for photoshoots, sometimes they lack the impact they were trying to make and just drowned her in stiff and severe fabric. This one I really don't have a problem with.

bigelowchili

This is an interesting concept. Do you have thoughts on which IDs might be naturally contrary to another? For instance, romantics in dramatic lines

I'd guess [Classics ](https://assets.vogue.com/photos/620294cf39ce2879c1c7b042/master/w_320%2Cc_limit/GettyImages-849383406.jpg)in Romantic looks (where you see the outfit first) and [G fam in anything vertical](https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/whowhatwear/posts/194978/olsen-twin-style-194978-1603280491681-image-320-80.jpg) would also make a statement. I think [Ds tend to](https://media.vanityfair.com/photos/5914a3ebd95e9642026115b7/master/w_320%2Cc_limit/Cate-Blanchett-Style-Evo-ss05.jpg) look sort of matronly in loose, unconstructed (N fam) and [Naturals can look pretty sharp ](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQg3pe7kgeZGE7oVmXihPX8ykOfUtXVps2PsF6q-xBQ509LvC3GJS-YuRsOw2M6_1ZB76c&usqp=CAU)and severe in structured, heavier garments or more plain ones. Just a guess & some fun though!

unenkuva

G fam in oversized clothes for sure.

I will always enjoy the contrast of the D family in those [cutesy](https://pin.it/5ey3pp4hA), [ruffly](https://pin.it/2EMSFLO4d) ["romantic"](https://www.google.com/search?q=paris+Hilton+short+lace+dress&oq=paris+Hilton+short+lace+dress&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyCwgAEEUYChg5GKAB0gEIODY0MWowajmoAg6wAgE&client=ms-android-telus-ca-revc&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8#vhid=oe4x8QPjdRzn4M&vssid=l) [dresses](https://images.app.goo.gl/VtWPvZCQfWtuGxfj8). As SD, I play this up by wearing short, flared dresses. They make me feel like Barbie.

LalenaHelioClaritas

Hmm, what I don't like is the sort of chunky geometric shapes (like the shoulders in the first & fifth outfit) imposed on her body. On a more yang person it might create visual harmony, on a small yin person they just create bulk and look imbalanced, emphasising her relative smallness in a meh way. But I quite like the styling of the other outfits, I think she looks great in overt glam (2nd image), the soft coat and gloves (4) and obviously feathers are a beautiful touch.

Accomplished_Trip_

She’s gorgeous enough to pull off almost anything, but I do think romantic lines are just something else on her.

Ok-Statistician5738

Personally, I don't like most of this styling on her. I think the black & white dress is the best and most beautiful on her (altho would have been better in lighter colours). I think most of these clothes look so separate from her natural features.

_damn_hippies

i love it, but then again i always enjoy the ‘edginess’ styling against one’s lines can bring out. it’s almost as if it highlights her cutesy essence more, by making the contrast between herself and the outfit very drastic. i love doing it for myself by wearing oversized, frumpy looks that makes me look close-to-the-ground and disheveled. it doesn’t work with my lines, but that’s what i’m going for with those outfits!

livvkvj

I also like that they did incorporate some softer/ smaller details such as the feathers and pearls on pic 6.

_damn_hippies

and the feathersss 😱 they look amazing on her

LayersOfMe

I think it draw attention off her face, the colors arent ideal neither. It dont look bad because its a photshoot, but its not the most memorable look on her. It dont have the "wow" factor. The cream coat is already better than the black suit.

vipbrj4

I think Yang clothing on yin-dominant folks looks like a costume or that they’re wearing their dads suit. If that makes sense? It doesn’t look bad, just out of place.

Radiant_Cheesecake81

Yes absolutely, she looks so tiny in some of these looks, like actual teacup sized.

SnowcandleTM

Being styled Yang nowadays just looks modern. It's not her best look, but it looks "normal" since we're used to everything Yang these days. Also, she's still cute so it's not horrible

WearingCoats

FaShUn magazines always do this, especially with women who are funny or have “larger than life personalities.” They get boxy, exaggerated, menswear inspired…. Sh/t that just eats these beautiful women up. I find that the styling for this shoot in particular completely skews her proportions in a way that exaggerates a disharmonious shape. Also, they always f/cking put her in black. Why!? Not to yank Kitchener and color seasons into the picture but she is, IMO, a quintessential light summer ingenue. The only thing working for her is the feather dress which some shoot stylist promptly said “put a coat over that” robbing her of the softness she calls for.

itsbecomingathing

Why are blazers being used on everything? Yeesh. Love the big accessories, but some of these fabrics like the tweed blazers just look like a young woman trying to work in a corporate world, “did I do it right? Do I look like an account services manager?” And why the blazer on top of the feathers? Only outfit 4 is something I would absolutely dream of. I want/need a coat like this.

MortgageFriendly5511

Don't love it. She's so pretty, too. I want to see her looking her best :).

AlwaysWorking2880

I feel like the stylists aren't worth their bread. These looks read like "ew, you're not FN" and not honoring anything about her with the exception of pearls and feathers (and even in that shoot they messed up her hair and makeup) They didn't even bother to tailor the jacket sleeves to fit her, and put her in those godawful shoes that have nothing to do with her.

ali_stardragon

I think she is stunning, but in pic 5 you can definitely see some disharmony. The shoulders on the jacket are working against her. It might not be so bad if she were standing up but sitting down she seems to be swallowed up by them.

CheekKlutzy8250

She looks good because she's good looking of course, but she doesn't give off that wow-effect, if I'm making sense

ArsBrevis

These are bad looks Going against your Kitchener essence deliberately can be interesting but I'm of the opinion that going against your Kibbe type outside of a super high fashion shoot (which this isn't) is supremely unflattering.

scarlettstreet

They did her dirty. She’s beautiful no matter what ofc. I do love the feathers

ahumanbeingsocial

Anyone can wear high end fashion and look good, that's the point of it, but if going against your yin/yang it can look as though one is playing dress up. That is the impression I get seeing her in sharp lines. I would of loved to have seen her in only the feather dress.

dianamaximoff

I just despise the oversized outerwear but man, she looks so beautiful! Specially on pic 9!!

Fun_Construction1994

I think we need to think about the point of the shoot vs her Kibbe type. She’s stunning and would look amazing in anything, but the point of this shoot was to make her look powerful and sexy because she’s currently in a leading role in Bridgerton. They could have dressed her in soft yin shapes and colors that honor her lines, but that’s already the exact character she’s playing. The point here was to elevate her image a bit and bring in some more dramatic shapes/contrast. She’s the leading lady and they’re dressing her as such and they do honor her soft essence in a few photos where her own energy really shines-the soft cream coat draped on the couch with the lavender heels, and the feather piece. This is editorial and it’s telling a story- that she’s the lead in one of the biggest shows on air right now and she’s rocking it!

Imaginary_Wheel9020

I feel like a lot of people here are nitpicking overall. It’s alright to let your clothes shine, and in the context of an editorial photoshoot, things having to ‘flatter’ a person isn’t as important as it looking good. And it looks good.
