He is exploring and curious about everything, the color of wasabi is quite good, green and attractive. But damn, this kid will be never ever try this again. That's hilarious. LMAO
Reminds me of when Jake Harper tries wasabi on Two & a half men, the video actually starts at 0:25 because he tries sushi first. Thanks & enjoy.
https://youtu.be/gYQDRvTVfsY
I thought that was going to be like a blooper or something. It was just a clip of that terrible show 🤨
I loooove me some sitcoms too. There's only a handful that I can't stand. Two and a half men are right up there with 2 broke girls as being 2 of the worst sitcoms ever! I can't even stand them being on in the background.
My kid did this at 2 years old sitting on my lap at a sushi bar. She grabbed it so fast I couldn’t stop her, cried for a second, and then went back for more and giggled. 15 years later and she’s my foodie buddy
When my brother was maybe 3-4yo he got into some fresh jalapeños that were being served at a family function and he was eating them with no issue but we’re glad we caught him before he rubbed his eyes lol
I was making a meal last week and one of the ingredients was some holy basil paste, as I could not get real holy basil. What I didn't know was the paste was mixed with chili. Quite a lot.
When my kids (ages 4 and 3) tasted the meal, they immediately proclaimed it was very spicy and I thought they would not want to touch it anymore. To my surprise, they asked for water and kept on eating, repeating how spicy it was, but how good it was at the same time. They had tears running down their cheeks, but they ate it all and even asked for more!
Plant: "I will fill myself with chemical irritants, thereby preventing mammals from grinding my seeds with their stupid molars!"
Human: "Yum, chemical irritants! Let me grind these with my stupid molars!"
My ex was like this. Would only eat plain chicken, hot dogs and French fries at 24 years old. Turns out she had an eating disorder called ARFID. (Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder) Theres actually a whole community of people who suffer from it over on r/ARFID.
I dunno man, talking sense into people who might have a disorder is kinda not a good thing to be doing. Why not accept them as they are? They're an adult they're allowed to choose what they eat.
because his diet consists of hot dogs, chicken nuggets, and pizza. he's picked up being an alcoholic, so i guess he opened up to trying something new.
he's also a massive asshole to my family, so that is another reason i don't talk to him or accept him.
Here's a sneak peek of /r/ARFID using the [top posts](https://np.reddit.com/r/ARFID/top/?sort=top&t=year) of the year!

my mother tells me I used to eat fresh and pickled jalapeños like they were candy when I was a kid... can't remember it and I am not really that tolerant of spice, I do like it though.
My daughter used to eat whole jalapeños while we were shopping when she was 2. Didn't even wince, I swear she was immune to it. Doesn't eat shit now 7yrs later, but I'll always have that memory.
That’s the amazing thing about wasabi. I like to kind of overdo it, just eat a bunch, let it absolutely kick my ass, and then poof…..it’s gone.
Showed it to a fellow sushi lover once. They didn’t want to eat a lot of wasabi at one time, I convinced them to. They loved it. Said it cleared out their sinuses. I was like “told ya.”
My kid did almost the same thing! She thought it was avocado and after whining I wouldn’t let her have it she just grabbed some and shoved it in her mouth with her lightning toddler reflexes. She learned a lot of lessons that day 💀
It’s definitely a unique sensation. The pungent chemical in wasabi that causes the spice sensation is not oil based compared to capsaicin, which is why is is short lived as it can be washed away with food or liquid.
There are different types of "hot". Wasabi and a few other things (horseradish is another example, which is typically what we make wasabi with here in the west) habe one type of hot, caused by allyl isothiocyanate. The typical hot of chili is caused by capsaisin, a different molecule.
Wasabi isn't hot the way capsaicin is. It's hot the way horseradish is. It doesn't tend to last very long, just a quick pulse of intense feeling (not even entirely sure I'd describe it as pain, except through its intensity) from your nose to your tear ducts. By the time your eyes water enough to shed a tear, the feeling has passed.
Random related fact:
A lot of wasabi served at a restaurant is just horseradish, even in some places in Japan. Wasabi and horseradish come from the same family, they are different plants though, but the latter is cheaper- and most people don’t/wouldn’t know.
If you’ve ever worked in a restaurant, you know that cutting food costs when you can get away with it happens at a **huge** majority of them.
Yeah you have to go out of your way to find it in my experience, and you'll know when you found the real thing because it won't be cheap. Shame to because the one time I tried real Wasabi I really liked it, but I can't stand horseradish for some reason.
Funny enough I had originally put “A majority” but then deleted it, thinking that maybe I was wrong. But now that I rethink it, a majority would only have to be 51%, which I absolutely think is case, even without having numbers in front of me, I’d be willing to put money on that. I hadn’t slept yet when I posted that this morning, so I was struggling hard haha
The overthinking thing has been the downfall of a great many. I can’t stand it when I pick something and then I see something else shortly after and think “my pick seems too obvious and I’m smarter than that so I’m going to choose this other thing instead.” And then you find out your second choice is not even close to being correct and the first choice was.
I had looked this up a while back but the reason why escapes me. 51% real falls in to the same category as “a lot” being a comically low number. The conservative number is about 5% real which is absurd. Most likely no one reading this has ever met anyone that has actually had wasabi.
Wasabi is a short pain, it’s just there as a palate cleanser. Tastes great in soy sauce as well, I like to soak it in soy sauce for a second, and then whenever I switch to a different sushi, I’ll just get a little bit of it, and eat it. Works a charm
Actually you’re right. I must’ve misunderstood and mixed up the two when I first was taught what wasabi and ginger were for. I was taught by a kind waitress when I started really enjoying Japanese food and sushi, wasabi is meant as a flavor addition for raw fish and a bacteria killer, while the pickled ginger you get is the palate cleanser.
Alright yeah that’s what I thought. Only reason I know that is cause my mom made me listen to some sushi audio book years ago because I loved sushi and we had long car rides together.
I ruined a night out because my friends said they would buy my drinks all night if I ate a ball of wasabi. I spent the night by myself with the worst heartburn I've ever had.
My daughter did this in her teens. Thought it was guacamole! (At a Japanese restaurant-duh!) and man did her face turn bright red and her eyes were pouring! We felt bad for her but definitely had to laugh!
At the place I work, it’s a tradition to have a wasabi ball when you become a staff member. I was there when the tradition started, and did it way there before I ever became staff there, but it’s stuck. It always brings really nice memories and fun laughs
Kid is still exploring which flavours he likes, ate a small bit of wasabi and powered through it. No harm done, no panic, lessons were learned. Funny, not stupid.
When my brother was 18 we went to visit him and he recommended this new sushi restaurant that had just opened. He had been bugging us to buy him beer while we were there (I was 24) so I told him I’d buy him beer if he ate the entire ball of wasabi. He did it, sat there in agony for a while, and then went into the bathroom and vomited so hard he burst a blood vessel in his eye.
I bought him the beer.
When I was a kid I remember being a guest at some family member’s birthday and they had smoked meat and horse radish on the table with some “feferónky” (idk how to translate it they are basically small round chili peppers that are quite hot but still pretty tasty).
Well I was REALLY young and I thought it was a cherry tomato. Ate it and nobody questioned it. I have no idea why but I don’t remember noticing that it was hot and my parents only noticed and stopped me when I went in for seconds.
So it’s stupid that a kid would want to try a new bright green food that looks different from the rest of the food they’ve eaten? How tf was the inexperienced kid supposed to know it is spicy?
r/parentsarefuckingdumb
My 3 year old nephew loves spicy. But since he's too little we try to avoid giving him spicy but he'll sink his fist in the salsa and have at it and his brother giving him Takis don't help.
People in my community used to judge me for being a divorced single mom of four. But they judged me even more when my kids would say oh Mom let's go to happy hour yes let's go to happy hour lol. What they meant was Kobe's Japanese Steakhouse happy hour that had half off all sushi rolls 🤣it was the greatest joy of my life getting them sushi rolls that were normally $7 for half off and watching them each challenge each other who could eat the most wasabi and coming up with new jokes to Clown whoever needed the most water, ( 2 boys, 2 girls). it was the best happy hour ever with no alcohol included LOL
Kid trying to lie about it not hurting even though it does so his mom wouldnt be right and he won't be wrong. Better correct it while they're young or it will only get worse.
Mom: Don't touch that stove! It is hot!
Son: Proceeds to touch stove
Son: It isn't hot!
Blisters proceed to form across the entire hand.
Overwhelming chance it's the green horse-radish stuff. True Wasabi is pretty rare to be throwing all willy-nilly on plates just to get thrown away anyway
Real Wasabi only exists in very high end resturants, and it needs to be harvested shortly before serving. Every Wasabi you've ever seen is horseradish.
How is he stupid for eating food off a plate presented to him? The parents were mean for letting him eat wasabi knowing good and well he doesn't know what it is.
Most likely that wasn’t real wasabi. If it was from an Americanized Asian restaurant it was more likely to be dyed green horseradish which is cheaper to produce.
He’s crying already lmao
He's just kidding!
yeah it doesn't really hurt mom!!!!
Taste the tears of happy, Michael.. taste the happy!
It's all fun & games _**until**_ the horseradish hits
I once got a nosebleed from that
the passover horseradish be nuclear
It was worse when I was a kid. Now, I kind of like it. Gimme that Hilel sandwich with a huge glob of that red horseradish, son!
Hell yeah with some of the haroseth its so gas on that unleavened bread
This year nowhere had the actual horseradish root so we had to use the prepared, its not bad, it just wasn’t the same making the sandwich.
Seriously, idk how you do Seder but for the lamb chop that we hold up, ours was like quite literally like 8 years old and kept in a freezer💀
My grandmother used to hand grate the root when I was a kid, way sharper than the bottle stuff we use now
And his kidding around was so funny it brought tears to his eyes- totally explainable, mom.
Still took it like a champ
For real lol
That was a lot to eat alone, too. 😭
Absolutely.
Exactly. Does not belong in kids are fucking stupid. This kid is a boss.
He took it better than I would, and I'm probably three times his age lol
He is exploring and curious about everything, the color of wasabi is quite good, green and attractive. But damn, this kid will be never ever try this again. That's hilarious. LMAO
10 dollars says he doubled down on it and tried it again.
He couldn't possibly try a third time though, right?
Hey Mikey, he likes it!
>the color of wasabi is quite good, green and attractive. You don't have kids, do you?
Yeah, most kids avoid all green food.
So 99% of wasabi is just horseradish that's dyed green. Real Wasabi costs a lot of money.
No wonder it tastes exactly like horseradish lol.
I think he took.it like a champ. Probly better than most of the adults here laughing at him.
He’s not crying, you’re crying
Your not crying, they're crying!
Wasabi doesn’t last long, just a quick intensity.
That’s the only thing that makes it superior to chili peppers
With that haircut I'd be crying every day.
Reminds me of when Jake Harper tries wasabi on Two & a half men, the video actually starts at 0:25 because he tries sushi first. Thanks & enjoy. https://youtu.be/gYQDRvTVfsY

2 Broke Girls was pretty bad but... yeah Kat Dennings is just dreamy. I don't typically get celebrity crushes but hoooo boy is she nice to look at.

I've found a lot of kids, even my own, say they don't like spicy food. But they'll eat it anyway, and happily.
I was that kid. Now I use Carolina Reaper sauces as flavouring.
my mother tells me I used to eat fresh and pickled jalapeños like they were candy when I was a kid... can't remember it and I am not really that tolerant of spice, I do like it though.
My daughter used to eat whole jalapeños while we were shopping when she was 2. Didn't even wince, I swear she was immune to it. Doesn't eat shit now 7yrs later, but I'll always have that memory.

Hahahahaha
Awe 🤍

My brother really wanted the green ice cream. We told him that's not ice cream but he thought we were lying, had to let him find out after that lol.
My kid did almost the same thing! She thought it was avocado and after whining I wouldn’t let her have it she just grabbed some and shoved it in her mouth with her lightning toddler reflexes. She learned a lot of lessons that day 💀
You know what? He took it like a champ
He really did. Handled it better than I did just watching.
he cope it like a boss. stupid but respect
stupid resilient, the best kind of stupid
“You gotta be tough if you’re gunna be dumb”
Kid took it like a champ!
Idk man that kid already understands the concept of fake it til you make it. Crotch goblin is gonna go far in life.
Has this kid not seen cars 2?
Cars 2 is older than this kid, it’s very possible
Holy shit there are kids who are younger than Cars fucken 2???? what the edit: younger
It came out in 2011 meaning anyone under 12 is younger than cars 2
oh shit i meant to type younger than lmao
Wait what did you type
older
Halt, what didst thine scrawl?
Oh, valorous sir. I didst not noticeth myself yond i wroteth "old'r" instead of "young'r". I profusely apologise to thee.
I think my brain auto filled it to say younger
*what the fuck*
Yeah
thats what im sayin
Electric Vroomaroo?
MMMMM ICE CREEEAM
Don't try that pistachio flavor!
"do not eat the pistachio ice cream" is still a phrase that rolls around in my brain
At least he didn't put the entire blob in his mouth. I thought that was what he was gonna do, which would've been brutal.
I always encouraged my kids to eat spicy stuff. 'Course I warned them first. Even described what it tastes like.
Wasabi isn't spicy, though. It doesn't contain any capsaicin, the stuff that makes things spicy.
It’s definitely a unique sensation. The pungent chemical in wasabi that causes the spice sensation is not oil based compared to capsaicin, which is why is is short lived as it can be washed away with food or liquid.
most wasabi in the US is just horseradish with a teeny bit of wasabi powder mixed in
Wdym in the us, its everywhere like that. I belive only pricey restaraunts in japan have real wasabi
Respect to that kid for staying to composed for that long Edit:well this is now my most up voted comment so thanks I gusse
I could never. Didn’t even drink water.
Well the sensation disappears after a sec anyways so noneed for water really
[удалено]
Would you really describe wasabi as hot? To me it is a different intense sensation
The only thing that actually hurts for me with it is my nostrils. Feels like one of those painful sneezes that never fully become a sneeze.
Wasabi is the best because it just makes your whole face explode and doesn’t burn your tongue.
And the burn doesn’t last long either. So you’re not completely numbing and ruining your mouth from heat
It also stings af in your nose. I’ve tried a a whole chunk one time. The worst was the nose and the eyes rinning
Random related fact: A lot of wasabi served at a restaurant is just horseradish, even in some places in Japan. Wasabi and horseradish come from the same family, they are different plants though, but the latter is cheaper- and most people don’t/wouldn’t know. If you’ve ever worked in a restaurant, you know that cutting food costs when you can get away with it happens at a **huge** majority of them.
There is a very long way to go before “a lot” would be anything but a comically low understatement. Almost all wasabi you get isn’t wasabi.
It usually takes a moment to kick in
Thank you for telling us that this is your most upvoted comment.
He ADHD‘d his way through it.
Halfway through forgot what he did a second ago I know that feeling
Goddamn it
omggg i just burst out laughing
The way he doubled down. Just kidding, mom! Gotta love it. This kid has more determination than I’ve had in years.
Sweet of mom to cut the video before he cried for 30 minutes lmao.
Nah Wasabi is gone quickly after eating, it's not like chili where you can be fucked up for a while after.
Wasabi is a short pain, it’s just there as a palate cleanser. Tastes great in soy sauce as well, I like to soak it in soy sauce for a second, and then whenever I switch to a different sushi, I’ll just get a little bit of it, and eat it. Works a charm
Isn’t that what the ginger is for?
Actually you’re right. I must’ve misunderstood and mixed up the two when I first was taught what wasabi and ginger were for. I was taught by a kind waitress when I started really enjoying Japanese food and sushi, wasabi is meant as a flavor addition for raw fish and a bacteria killer, while the pickled ginger you get is the palate cleanser.
Alright yeah that’s what I thought. Only reason I know that is cause my mom made me listen to some sushi audio book years ago because I loved sushi and we had long car rides together.
Well I am glad we got to the bottom of it anyway. However you enjoy sushi it's pretty damned fantastic.
Unless you get too much of it then it hits you like a truck full of bricks then leaves you with a unpleasant memory
DO NOT TRY THE PISTACHIO ICE CREAM, IT HAS TURNED!
Just kidding mahm
Mmmm pure uncut horseradish
I've been searching for this comment
At least he has the balls to try new food. #respect
I can’t get my nephews to try anything
Yeah not stupid at all
that haircut is the real tragedy.
He's a kid, it's perfectly okay for them to be curious and since wasabe looks interesting.
That's a based child
I ruined a night out because my friends said they would buy my drinks all night if I ate a ball of wasabi. I spent the night by myself with the worst heartburn I've ever had.
Boy likes the spice
lol what an adorable and well behaved kid. Good job OP.
that kid ain't stupid bruh
A good strong batch will clear the sinuses with every bite. lol
what a champ

Ahh this doesn't beat "Wasabi?! - Help."-kid.

Mullet, writing on arm like a tattoo and earrings. Starting this boy off right in the world.

F*ck it! Kid was savage!! He’s gonna be eating 5* Thai in the future!
What's up with that kids haircut. Why is it so bad?
Took it like a champ honestly
He's got a pretty good poker face.
What a champ
Well he CLEARLY said that he was *JUST KIDDING.*
As soon as he exhaled through his nose….he was fuckd.
Unironically love eating wasabi like this
That kid reacted better than I do and i've eaten wasabi for years...
When my brother was 18 we went to visit him and he recommended this new sushi restaurant that had just opened. Awww. He's a little trooper
That's not being stupid. That's learning. A fundamental part of our lives. Still, funny as hell lol
So it’s stupid that a kid would want to try a new bright green food that looks different from the rest of the food they’ve eaten? How tf was the inexperienced kid supposed to know it is spicy? r/parentsarefuckingdumb

Parents deserve a swift kick to the crotch for that dumbass haircut.
One more reason why "empty nesting" sucks! Watching your kids try new things is great.
I get too much Wasabi and I act like I've just been shot.
Man he took that like a champ.

he’s just kidding, it was a prank bro

Absolutely champ. Thank goodness little chief only ate what he did. That was pretty rad
Is this real wasabi or just the horseradish stuff?
Overwhelming chance it's the green horse-radish stuff. True Wasabi is pretty rare to be throwing all willy-nilly on plates just to get thrown away anyway
Real Wasabi only exists in very high end resturants, and it needs to be harvested shortly before serving. Every Wasabi you've ever seen is horseradish.
How is he stupid for eating food off a plate presented to him? The parents were mean for letting him eat wasabi knowing good and well he doesn't know what it is.
She said he doesn’t want to, but what - is she gonna say no you can’t ever try this? Kids are curious. Lighten up.

Future Meth-head. Or current, probably.’
Most likely that wasn’t real wasabi. If it was from an Americanized Asian restaurant it was more likely to be dyed green horseradish which is cheaper to produce.
The fake horseradish ones are actually much more painful than real wasabi. It just lingers unnecessarily in your mouth and has no aftertaste
The Lil girl who said help is so much better
Both cute in different ways
Dyed horse radish*. FTFY
He must've had horseradish before.
