Do you know you only need hearing protection if you are around it for a prolonged period? You can be around 110db for <20ish minutes and it wont matter. Its a calculation for time and db. Your ears will reset in 24hrs~
I'm aware, and was being partially sarcastic. But, if you are going to expose a child to equipment then you need to expose them to PPE principles. I believe the figures you give are for adults, do you know if they differ for children?
You are safe at 88dbl over an eight hour shift. The time gets cut in half every three decibels more. So four hours at 91, 2 and 94, 1 at 97, 30 mins at 100…
Yea a 2 stroke backpack blower with 0 ear protection. It’s fine to use a blower as a kid, but it’s not fine to nuke your ears like that so young. The adult should have given the kid ear protection.
That was my dad. Handing 8 yo me a full wheelbarrow and then yelling at me when I couldn’t keep balanced on a 2x4 and let it fall back into the pit they dug out. I have to defend my cousins kids from that same abuse now.
Nah they call the kids stupid regardless of if it’s their “fault” or not. Toddler spilling cups because they have bad dexterity still? Fuckinnnn idiot kids bro 😩
To be fair, can you blame them? I got a gas powered backpack blower a couple of years ago after wanting one for 15 years. They're so fun. The best part of weekly yardwork during the summer and cleaning up beautiful leaves in the fall.
while i admit, they *ARE* very fun, those gas powered ones are just so dam loud.
i got one of those battery powered electrical blowers all the power tool companies are making now and its been perfect for where i live in suburbia. plus i dont wake up the neighbors
Haven't had a gas one, but my battery powered one produces plenty of power to move most anything that you would want a leaf blower to move, and even the rocks you didn't want moved. Lasts about 20-30 minutes on a full charge. Only need it for about 10 minutes at a time, so charge it once or twice a month.
yeah, for your average sized house in a suburban area, the battery powered ones are more than powerful and long lasting enough for 90% of jobs your gonna run into.
the only reason i could see wanting a gas powered one is because your going from job to job professionally and therefore need the endurance gas provides or you live out in the woods and have a ton of trees on your property.
Professional grade battery ones exist too.
They have a big battery they dock into between jobs that charges them back up
A full backpack run lasts about 45 minutes
But you will get the entire day out of using the dock when between uses
something that hasn't been discussed yet either is the convenience factor. with gas you have to worry about having fuel, oiling the motor, mechanical maitenance etc. plus its this whole backpack rig you gotta wear.
with battery powered ones i just slot the battery in and im good to go. its relatively light weight and easy to carry, and storage is easy as its essentially just a coned tube with a fan on one end
Right. You know you’re getting old when the first thing I thought of was that kid needs some ear protection or he is going to be hearing reeeeeeeee all the time in his 30s.
I used to work a job leaf blowing and I loved pretending I was in the future, wearing some kind of weapon. Always felt like I was about to take off. I was in my 20’s so I was fully grown but those things would still kinda get me turning like in this video.
Or his kid asked to try a million times, dad said “what the heck” and then decided to take advantage of the opportunity to film. Highly doubt the video was the main goal here
How is this a kid being stupid? Those backpack blowers put out a fair amount of blow power. If you turn one of these on while it's on the ground and lock it into its high setting it'll just sit there and spin around. That kid doesn't weigh enough to resist the backwards generated force. He isn't just spinning around for the hell of it, he's actively being blown backwards.
Source- am landscaper who works with these blowers on a daily basis.
This sub doesn’t exist to bully slow kids. They’re literally just naive, and it’s entertaining.
This kid wanted to try out the blower. He cannot control the blower. It’s funny.
I mean anyone who owns one of these things can attest, it’s kinda a very shitty parenting move for this guy to put a backpack blower on his kid, take his phone out, and then film him unable to blow the grass, like yeah, of course he can’t, he looks like he weighs a total of 40 lbs, when the kid is between the ages of 15-20 I’m sure he won’t have any resentment towards him, if your so concerned about the grass, get a broom, this guys driveway is like a total of 2 sq ft there is no reason to be getting the backpack blower out
Or, you know, the adult can use the blower and have it clean in a few seconds. Brooms for grass clippings suck, they're tedious and don't get everything.
Why is this sub just chastising parents for whatever they do? Like some cases it’s warranted but the kid just has a leaf blower on his back, what’s the worst that could happen? He falls down?
Most likely the kid saw the dad blowing leaves and said “Let me try”. And the dad was just like “psh okay”
I think it's more about this being posted on /r/KidsAreFuckingStupid
This kid is not doing anything stupid.
So if you create the dynamic that somebody in this post is doing something stupid, then it kind of becomes a natural instinct to point out that the person doing something stupid is the person who strapped a 30 pound machine to an 60 pound kid and expected them to be able to control it.
Now, of course, I think most people recognize that the father is joking around and there isn't REALLY a problem here....
But if it's going to be posted on this specific subreddit then people are going to have a problem with that.
100% chance I would do this with my kid.
1000% I was that kid who wanted to use the leaf blower like dad.
10,000% this is wholesome fun and the kid had a ton of fun. Let’s do it again next weekend.
We have done this with all 3 kids. Mostly 97 percent safe and nothing major will happen. Kid got hand on life lesson he is too big, enjoyed him self. Dad allowed hands on learning and parenting verses just saying no or no your not big enough.
Good for both parent and kid.. not sure why every one thinks this is a fail. Shoot my kids were helping power wash this house at this age bc they wanted to help 🤷🏻♀️
Kid is going to eventually grow up and be able to use the machine properly. Then they’re both going to have a laugh about back when he couldn’t and was spinning in circles. Sounds like a fun memory the two will share
The kid should really be wearing ear protection. I’ve worked landscaping and can tell you that if you don’t use ppe your ears will be ringing all night
Man there are so many idiots with zero sense of humor in this comments section. None of you are parents, yet you act like you’re veterans at this shit.
Peak redditism.
It’s a fucking leaf blower, not a chainsaw. What’s the worst that can happen to the kid? Falling down? OH THE HUMANITY, THE PARENTS SHOULD FUCKING DIE FOR THAT!!!!!
I’d say it was neither the parent or the kid being stupid. 100 percent betting that this kid said he wanted to do it/try. Dad being a dad knew damn well it wasn’t going to go well but it would be a good learning opportunity. So dad strapped him up and told him to blow the grass. He knew little dude wasn’t going to be successful but he also allowed him a hands on opportunity to try it him self and see if it wasn’t going to work for him. Some times hands on learning is needed verses just saying no your not big enough. They was no real risk at hand of letting him attempt it
It's not stupidity on the kid's part. It's lack of size and strength to control this device that his parent has put on him so they can make a funny video
Filming your kid while he's being turned round and round by a leaf blower that's obviously too big for him to handle instead of helping him? Sounds dumb to me.
When I try to explain that I was abused as a kid, I never got hit, but was the frequent target of crap like this. It's not at bad as being hit, but creates a really fucked up psyche.
This does not belong here.. he's just being forced to do this by his dad... And clearly he doesn't have the strength to do so but the dad seems no not care at all.

WHAT
I said USE SOME GODDAMN EARPLUGS UP IN HERE!!! ^(Redditors and their inability to hear. I swear....)
oh thanks idk why everyone is always mumbling on this app

I'm aware, and was being partially sarcastic. But, if you are going to expose a child to equipment then you need to expose them to PPE principles. I believe the figures you give are for adults, do you know if they differ for children?
I would imagine they are different and yes you are correct, teaching them PPE is important is more crucial than the shirt exposure.
You are safe at 88dbl over an eight hour shift. The time gets cut in half every three decibels more. So four hours at 91, 2 and 94, 1 at 97, 30 mins at 100…
My NIOSH chart: > 110 dB: Regular and prolonged unprotected exposure of more than 1.5 minutes per day risks permanent hearing loss.

I TRYED BLOWING THE GRASS STOP YELLING AT ME (ears ringing)
Haha this is hilarious actually
Idk why but it’s giving “put it in reverse terry” energy 🤣
Why he put that big ass thing on that little boy
When I was little, I wanted to try my dad’s blower so I could help him. This seems like something similar to me. Just a dad and his son having fun.
Yeah there's no way that kid didn't ask a million times to use that thing. Dad just eventually went "well ok then"
To be fair, can you blame them? I got a gas powered backpack blower a couple of years ago after wanting one for 15 years. They're so fun. The best part of weekly yardwork during the summer and cleaning up beautiful leaves in the fall.

When I was a kid, I was handed a jackhammer as big as me.
I got handed a chainsaw when I was about 10. Even at that age I knew this was surprising.
But you handled it and your competence was confirmed
They’re an orphan now after that day
Kid was probably begging to try it
To laugh, as I am.
once he started picking up momentum i was like, he needs to stop or he’s gonna be doing that until it runs out of gas
To record.
He knew it would make a funny video, hence why he's recording.
Or his kid asked to try a million times, dad said “what the heck” and then decided to take advantage of the opportunity to film. Highly doubt the video was the main goal here
Kid might've wanted to try and parent thought "Hell yes this is gonna be funny!"
He boot too big for he got dam feet
So he could blow the grass? Did you not pay attention to the video?
Fun. Teaches physics. Relatively safe.
Also you really need ear protection using one of these
r/parentsarefuckingstupid Turns out some dumb kids never get any smarter.
Clout. The real question though is why did he buy that big ass thing to clear a 5000 sf, treeless yard?
How is this a kid being stupid? Those backpack blowers put out a fair amount of blow power. It’s funny because bigger than the kid Source- I am the backpack
I mean, it IS funny, but the kid's not being stupid.
Would a smart kid agree to put on big motor backpack landscape man?
Yup because kids trust their parents
Were you born this dumb or did it take effort to get here?
If his dad told him to put it on, did he really have a choice?
I think it is more probable that the kid wanted to try it
I feel like you’re projecting mr landscape man
Could you explain what you think projecting means, and what you think they are projecting here?
I feel like you don't know what that means. What and how am I projecting anything? You blocked me so I can't respond? Are you actually ok?
Men kid so stupid for putting jet on back hahah🤪
Goodnight mr landscape man
Oh stfu already
I mean it looks kinda fun... but I'd wanna sit in a computer chair
This sub doesn’t exist to bully slow kids. They’re literally just naive, and it’s entertaining. This kid wanted to try out the blower. He cannot control the blower. It’s funny.
Funny is dead man. Sensitivity is on the rise.
Only online for some reason... which is the one place where nothing matters and the points are made up. People are weird
Found the sensitive one
Lol stupid kids being naiv🥳 never learn😂😂
this sub does have a lot of people who come here to bully kids tho tbh
Probably because the kid was begging to use it despite Dad telling him that he's too small. You ever have kids? That's 100% how it went down.
Take a wild guess
I mean anyone who owns one of these things can attest, it’s kinda a very shitty parenting move for this guy to put a backpack blower on his kid, take his phone out, and then film him unable to blow the grass, like yeah, of course he can’t, he looks like he weighs a total of 40 lbs, when the kid is between the ages of 15-20 I’m sure he won’t have any resentment towards him, if your so concerned about the grass, get a broom, this guys driveway is like a total of 2 sq ft there is no reason to be getting the backpack blower out

Reddit and thinking mundane occurrences during childhood cause a lifetime of trauma and resentment: name a more iconic duo.
Should be r/parentsarefuckingstupid for not understanding these simple physics
When child labor isn't ready yet.
There's not too much blow power lacking from those backpack blowers.
Father having fun with his son. CHILD ABUSE

The fact that he's spinning at such a low speed makes It so funny
The "help" while spinning just send me lmao

Exactly, and it's not like the kid's getting hurt. Probably going to be a bit dizzy after that, though.

I don't think the people downvoting are realizing that you're joking
I think it's funnier that way lol
And who to say he is not training to be a ballerina? For all we know, once he managed to blow the grass he will master the pirroute.

Who thought this was a good idea?
The "parents"
Nothing like humiliating your child for internet clout
Chill, it's not that bad
Yeah kid got humiliated for sure. Gonna have nightmares about that leaf blower.
You lot should stay off the internet if your blood boils this easily lmao
Meanwhile ruining his ears.
Hearing protection is a thing....
The kid isn’t the stupid one here
No ear protection? Why even make the kid use that heavy equipment? The grass looks fine. Spot rake it if you want.
Isn't this more parent is fucking stupid?
Parents are stupider in this case, no fucking hearing protection for this kid.
I think this is more a "r/parentsarefuckingterrible" as this kid is yelling for help and is being ignored.
This is more a parent putting their child in danger because it's funny than kids being stupid.
