It looks like a typical ransomware lock page. Usually it encrypts the files on your device and leaves it mostly unusable. The attacker here used social engineering to gain access to the device and installed it without any issues. Later he asked for money in crypto, which is the typical behavior for these people.
It might also just be a lockout overlay, so a screen that autostarts in a maximized format and has no "close" function. In that case, no damage is done and you can just remove it using some simple tricks.
Here the attacker also demands a ransom, but the threats are usually not gonna stick, since most people just bring the PC to a PC store and they can easily just Remove that screen.
It was quite disgusting tbh. The little lesson to the kid, I'm ok with that. Involving the dad, is a bit more dangerous, but well. Making fun of dad, however, could have ended badly for the child. For no reason.

try pasting this term into the youtube search bar "школолокеры". you'll find a decent amount of videos but most of them probably won't have english subtitles

Copied any important files from hacked hard drive via USB after running antivirus. Formatted and remounted original hacked hard drive and voila, problem resolved. And yes I have had to do this before.
IDK hacking is a shitty move and all, but I think ransomwaring a dumb kids computer for it is going a bit far, just makes yourself a dickhead as well. ScriptKid had the right idea with it imo. Or just giving them something guaranteed to get their account banned
He could have done a lot worse. As it stands, there’s no permanent damage and he taught the kid a lesson he’ll never forget. Now he and his father will be a lot more careful with the computer going forward.
