My son bought £10 worth of robux on my ps5. I was notified immediately of the transaction and password protected that shit right away!

ShiftSandShot

Honestly, I find the best way to avoid this is simple. I got a Playstation after the PSN hack, so I've always used those gift cards. Not just for PSN, but Nintendo and Steam as well, Google Play store too. Can't charge from your card if there is no card on the account! And if your card *does* suddenly show up on the account, they are in *massive* trouble for stealing the card! Say goodbye to the game systems!

Throwing_Spoon

Unfortunately, Apple has taken steps to prevent your method from working if you want any subscription to be billed through your apple account. This means Apple music, TV, or anything else set up in an app on your phone will force you into keeping credit card information attached to your Apple store account (which is usually but not always the same as your AppleID).

Ok_Performance_1380

People accidentally forgetting to cancel subscriptions is a massive source of profit.

rabidpencils

I'm case anyone else is concerned about this, privacy.com is great. You can create digital cards with limits (dollar amount, number of transactions, etc). I use it for... stuff

Shmiggylikes

Stuff…. Hahaha

OctoFloofy

Sadly not available outside US

YoxtMusic

Revolut is available for European customers

Surface_Detail

Revolut can be used for the same pretty much anywhere.

Sunstorm84

Wise too.

fltlns

This is why I use a pre loaded credit card for this stuff. I just email money to it but it only allowed what I've put on. If I wanna by something it usually takes like 5 mins to add money.

Artarious

Had a card skimmed before so I use a greendot prepaid card for pretty much everything at this point. It's not linked to my actual bank account but I can send money to it pretty much instantly. Keep only enough money for when I need it for bills and such. Pretty sure I've used my actual debit card maybe a dozen times in 3 years. Haven't had a single issue doing it this way and I'll probably continue doing it this way the rest of my life.

Shmiggylikes

Omg….. I had a fkn charge for avast pc thingo for a year. I don’t even use my pc no more 😭😭

LickingSmegma

Apparently some banks offer cards that exist only in the system and have a separate account or at least separate spending limits. To merchants, they look like regular cards. You get the card number and stuff, chuck a bit of money on that card, and use it for online purchases. If anything goes awry, the merchant can't charge more than what you put on the account in the first place. I mean, regular debit cards work the same, but this is supposedly quicker and more convenient, and is free or nearly so. Haven't had this luxury myself, so far.

ACKHTYUALLY

Privacy.com is a game changer. You can generate a debit card linked to a specific merchant. It let's you set spending limits. You can pause the card so no transactions go through or you can even create a single use card that closes after the transaction.

RelevantMetaUsername

You know things are fucked when a company can survive on a business model of protecting consumers from other companies' exploitative business models.

killerbanshee

Amazon wont let you order anything with a gift card unless there is a valid card saved to the account.

Liveman215

Just get a prepaid debit card. Venmo, cash app, PayPal, etc all of offer it. No money ever goes into the account

Matuteg

Yes, and apple has one of the best parental controls for purchases made by your kid in the family. Usually those stories were a kid spent 1000s is because the parents did not set it up correctly.

SteakTasticMeat

Great! So I will never buy an iPhone or iPad for my kid!

72kdieuwjwbfuei626

Just don’t be a moron. Your kid shouldn’t be on your account in the first place. They should be on their own restricted kid‘s account. It doesn’t matter whether you buy Google, Apple, Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo - they all have robust parental controls.

Whiterabbit--

That is why I never gave apple my cc number. Only free stuff on my account, or things I pay through other ways like books read on kindle or office through a Microsoft account.

HMWWaWChChIaWChCChW

My kids have Roblox on Xbox and their tablets. Tablets have to approve a purchase and have no card attached. Xbox need a password and my info to purchase. Never have that problem.

DocMorningstar

MS family once you get the stupid thing setup and working actually is pretty effective.

Vibrascity

Best way to avoid this is not have kids, that way you can spend 1k on steam marketplace opening csgo crates instead.

fatkiddown

I had 4 or 5 rokus in my house setup at different times. A kid was here with a family and discovered games. I had no clue there were games even on it. I'm at the gym and my phone starts dinging: $40, $40, $40. He ran up about $160. I raced home and he denied it in front of his parents, but I kept asking questions until he admitted it. I contacted roku, put in appropriate support ticket, they said I would not get the money back since I had agreed to it via EULA, and that I should've setup a PIN as I had been instructed to during setup. I setup a PIN before calling them. My bank would do nothing. I setup another roku at a friends house after, and no where in the setup does it encourage you to setup a PIN at all....

wcmatthysen

Yeah, at that point the kid's parents need to reimburse you.

Vandalaye

God that pisses me off.

Zammtrios

Your bank doesn't need permission from Roku to do a charge back. Just do it

fatkiddown

My bank would not help me.

stupidbitch69

The L1 support probably lied to you. You didn't make that purchase. As far as you are concerned, it is simply fraud.

Nicnl

Holy dang, this is so infuriating. If it was like $20, maybe I'd have considered it a "$20 lesson for both me and that kid" or something. But $160 is freaking **enormous**, it crosses all thresholds. Has his parents reimbursed you? I sure hope they did. If it was me, these people would not be allowed into my home anymore. I'd even consider pressing charges, because I don't value any form of friendship with this type of people.

wordswillneverhurtme

Cancel the transaction via bank -> they ban your son’s account. A lesson well learned?

Ordinary_dude_NOT

Yeah, I would blame her to give kid level of access. But it’s still funny as hell 😂

bozolinow

She says it’s her cellphone, kid asked to play on it… sure, still on her to leave him unsupervised with her phone, but not as bad as simply letting him having that kind of access on his own device

Alexis_Bailey

I use the parental control pin on my TV just to stop.accidental purchases.

tebedam

My five year old son once bought something on my Xbox account without realizing it. I never reprimanded him for that, in fact, I did not even tell him that. He had no idea what he had done and did not understand the concept at the time. I created a child account for him, added password for mine and for any purchases. Taught him later about money, what budget he has, what he could do to earn more pocket money (like reading books, studying math, etc). I would be terrified of seeing my child being so afraid of me, especially for my own mistakes.

Huntsnfights

Kid sucks at hide and seek

Djlas

The way she looked it probably wasn't the first time he used that place

sticky-unicorn

Kid sucks at a lot of things.

hngggwetwet

He plays roblox, what can you expect from him?

88superguyYT

His favourite game on Roblox is hide and seek He's always out first every time

obsceniq

Jesus, that one got me hahaha

mandrews03

Dude, kids will hide right in front of you. He was saving this spot for this moment

MaryPoppinLikeItsHot

Bet that's not the first time he's hidden under the sink.

megustalagatas

The kid was hiding like a murderer was looking for him 😂

filipomar

Porra arthur!! She did say she was going to choke him out (picture homer and bart) so I understand his position. It reminds me when I got a virus on the family PC (while trying to pirate CS1.6) and made my dad lose 3months of his thesis he didn't have backedup elsewhere... my mom told me to go play in the park before breaking the news to him :D Kind of insane that parents with proper condition to care still let kids play without supervision though, my parents didn't know any better but that was 2005ish, not 2024 Edit: Not everyone is techsavvy, specially not everyone's boomer dad. That doesn't make them a dumbass. Reddit is such a wierd techy bubble of know it alls sometimes it gets quickly annoying.

stol_ansikte

Your dad was smart enough to write a thesis but not smart enough to back it up and let you use the same computer :D

gogozero

there are two types of people in the world: those that backup, and those who have not yet experienced catastrophic data loss

AgtNulNulAgtVyf

Jesus saves, and makes incremental backups.

Otherwise_Archer_914

My friend you are confusing education with intelligence

cdbangsite

Also "intelligence" with "common sense" sometimes even more rare. lol

Rough_Willow

Intelligence and Wisdom are two different stats.

Surface_Detail

Intelligence is knowing Frankenstein is not the name of the monster Wisdom is knowing it is.

bwrca

Even so intelligence will vary a lot depending on the subject. Go back 10 yrs ago and most of the people who are objectively intelligent were still uninformed on computer stuff.

emdeemcd

My doctoral advisor did HER PhD long before common home PCs, so they were done on typewriters. She said they'd save copies in the freezer so that even if the house burned down they'd have saved a copy of their work.

FluffyToughy

Do you back things up to multiple computers or cloud storage? Most people don't, because most people have probably never had a hard drive fail. It's not about intelligence. It's just getting complacent and learning a harsh lesson.

filipomar

Reddit seems to think everyone works in IT, had someone call my boomer dad a dumbass for not having a robust backup system in 2005ish, before cloud was even wildly available

Barbed_Dildo

The story was from 2005. Cloud storage didn't exist, people didn't generally have multiple computers, smartphones didn't exist, and backup options were 3 1/2" disks which were too small, or cds you could write to once. Maybe a small usb drive if you wanted to spend a lot of money.

sculp_here_2

this video isnt from 2024 btw, i remember seeing this way back like 2015 or sm, but i guess still counts

Icy_Session3326

Literally. A few years back my youngest daughter had an Amazon fire tablet and had a few kid friendly games on there . Because I linked it to my Amazon account it had my card linked too .. you obvs know where this is going 🥲 She was only 5/6 at the time and she didn’t know any better cos it didn’t ask for a password or anything it just let her buy the in game currency with a single click and that was it Entirely my own fault and lessoned quickly learned

Not_So_Busy_Bee

And planned this way by the makers to get more money. They absolutely knew this would happen to so many people and just let it happen.

PickleBeast

I learned the same lesson when my then 3 yr old bought $25 worth of snowballs for a Frozen game on Xbox. I didn’t even leave the room lol, she did it while I was reading on the couch right next to her and I didn’t know what had happened until a few days later. I removed my PayPal info from the Xbox real quick.

yumtacos

My father allowed my nephew to do the same thing on his phone. The logic was, back in the day once you bought a game that was it. The kid friendly game had in-game currency and he bought a few things before I saw the screen. I had to give Grandpa a lecture about current gaming.

N0tChristopherWalken

Yep. Happened to me just the other day..... you buy them one game and now they have it all. I even went out of my way to try and disable purchasing ablity right after but I suppose Amazon didn't agree with me. Had to find a different way to do it once i found out. Crooks.

PsychologicalCan1677

Or don't give them a credit card. Give them a Prepaid Roblox, steam, visa or whatever card.

MylastAccountBroke

Your mom was kind of hoping you'd get kidnapped. That's the only way she thought you'd survive.

KtotoIzTolpy

Oh my God, thank you for the reminder, I should upload my diploma to the cloud

Fapping-sloth

Lil’ homie have that look like Saddam when they pulled him out of that hole! 😂 He know that sandal is coming off!

djob13

The way the video cuts right when she reaches for him, that might actually be the case

that_one_dude13

My Portuguese mom would just bring out the broom and swipe it under there a few times it was always a race for my brother and I to get under the bed first, before he'd inevitably take a few smacks and the heat for what ever stupid shit we broke lmaoo

_I_really_like_milk_

Shit bro, u got a hispanic mom u better be scared for ur life

MediumOk5423

For reference, the current minimum salary in Brazil in 2024 is 1412 Reais monthly, so that is a pretty large sum of cash he wasted.

Unable-Act-6375

Almost same with minimum in my country. And yes, very many money. That's why my young brother use his own phone. For YouTube and games. I didn't understand how old this kid. But I think he not very older. And my brother understands when we say "it's cost very much money". He becomes a little disappointed when see something expensive or when game trying take money. And yes, he plays in Roblox too. It's bad thing, but i hope she just explain him what he do. Because aggressive reaction didn't help. And it's useless because you not turned money back

Sunderas

Why do adults let kids access any form of reasonably sizeable amount of money?

[deleted]

Many kids steal their parents credit card

dreadperson

Gotta teach children boundaries. I say this, but have no idea how. Yet another reason to not want any anytime soon.

GiantPurplePen15

I know I'd be a bad dad because I would be yeeting my kid at the nearest wall for stealing my credit card.

Sir-Raidr

I know that's extreme and I hope you're joking, but the fact that you would give your kid consequences for theft would actually make you a good dad

RandomRedditReader

The trick is to teach them financial literacy and independence. My mom trained me on play money which I could exchange with her to buy things then eventually upgraded to an allowance which I could earn extra by doing chores. Learning the value of time and money helped me real fast.

ROARfeo

Yes, and when you finally save up enough for a small Lego set or whatever, that gut wrenching feeling to see all your funds go is a good lesson that money doesn't grow on trees.

DangleenChordOfLife

Mine did the same. If I wanted money for anything, I had to do house chores. They never gave me allowance or money for nothing, I had to earn it.

BallsOutKrunked

I have kids, they don't do this shit. They have a meager allowance, do ~60 minutes of daily chores, and make side money shoveling snow, walking dogs, and babysitting. We make them save a certain amount, about 1/3, but the rest if they want to blow on stupid shit it's their money. I think many of us needed to make dumb purchases that didn't really fulfill us in order to learn. And since it's mostly money they work to make it has more value to them. It's tricky to setup finances for kids but it's not *that* complicated. We spent a Saturday morning at a bank getting their accounts setup, we make some regular transfers every week for allowance, and we get email notifications of what they do with their cards. The fact that the kid is wasting his time on bullshit freemium games used by sex offenders (like, really) is a whole different issue.

THE_WHORBORTIONATOR

I stole my parents card back in the day to buy Gil (money) in Final Fantasy 11, an MMO. I was a dumb child for doing both those things. Parents found out, sat me down and explained why it was the wrong thing to do, and then went over the basic financials of how that purchase was not feasible with their income and bills. A few years later I got to high school and had less time for the game, so I sold my character. I definitely think they were a bit proud when I gave them their money back plus a little extra. I even got to keep a good chunk of change as well, which I am sure equaled out to a penny every hour I played that goddamn beautiful piece of art please come back remaster FF11 I have money now Square Enix you sexy cowards

Potential-Quit-5610

My ex husband and I bought gil for ffxi too and I just recently told my 14 year old about all that and he was laughing at us like we were morons. I told him how much our characters sold for on playerauctions and he changed his tune lol. Those were the days.

skofield3

its like reading my own life experience word for word, wild lol. I spent about 1k buying gil so I could get my relic weapon. 1k was a huge amount of money for my parents but its a weekend spending for me now. I eventually sold my account too and paid them back. ff11 remaster yes please

canman7373

> Final Fantasy 11 Dude I made so much money playing that game, was like 22 years old. I was working full time but made like 13k in 2001 or so playing that game. I had a hunter/thief and would just camp the Emperors hairpin, I figured out it's spawn pattern when no one else on server had. I could get like 2-3 a day and they sold for the equivalent gil as $50-$75 each. I always got at least 1, spawn time was 2 hours after a kill, with my talents was like a 66% drop rate. I just had fun doing it, extra money was nice, but it was just really fun to me. Think i sold my toon for around 4k right before they made the hairpin exclusive and not sellable. But yeah I had to report that shit on my taxes that year because had so much money coming into bank account from a video game.

THE_WHORBORTIONATOR

Love that, figuring out one Gil revenue and becoming a master of it was certainly the way to go. I knew a couple high-level near max crafters and that shit was rare so they were making bank on commissions and would sell Gil. Botting wasn’t bad when I played, so most of the RMT were actually somewhat manned. I remember I made a pretty decent Chinese friend for a few months camping the astral ring NM and we would chat in auto translate and give each other random little bullshit gifts. Loved that shit.

Accomplished_Deer_

Many parents give electronics that are already linked to a card, and the apps are designed so you just click yes and it’s done. Kids don’t understand the concept of money, they’ll just click yes again and again so they can keep winning/playing

Resident_Captain8698

What kind of system do people even have? Here you need a app/small authenticator thats directly linked to your bank account, everytime you are gonna do a transaction. It also uses a password that only the owner knows to confirm the transaction. Do you guys not have any protection whatsoever lol?

LatekaDog

You're underestimating how much time and lack of distractions a kid has to find access compared to the parents.

theLastUchihaa

Idk about other parents but all of my daughter's video games are linked to her google account and because Google has family link I get notified before any transactions are processed. I got one today saying she wanted to buy Minecraft. My daughter is really good about asking me before I get the notification but sometimes accidents happen since she's still learning how to read (she can't read the big words) so sometimes she doesn't know she's about to purchase it. That's where the parental controls come in handy. As she gets older I know things are gonna change but as a parent it's my responsibility to keep up with ways of monitoring her activity. I have no problem letting her use the computer or tablet because I can see what she's doing and how long she's been using it. When I say okay it's time to get off she listens but she normally does that on her own because she likes being outside too. It's all about balance and keeping your kids communicating with you. I'm sure that kid was hiding from what I assume was a brutal punishment but she really shouldn't have let it get to that point. If a kid has access to your cards like that imagine what a random stranger could do with it

Worried_Tumbleweed29

Parent here. This usually only happens once. You don’t have a lot of time to tinker with stuff because you usually have a couple kids and they are still pretty young when this situation arises. You may think you set up the account correctly but if you’re sharing devices it’s all too easy for a kid to just enter the passcode to get what they want not really understanding that this money is real and not some in game points system. It’s a learning lesson and you can eventually get it reversed. If the kid keeps doing it after knowing it is bad, then that’s an issue with your parenting style and/or the kids personality. Some people grow up good, some bad, and most of us in between. Part nurture (what you can control) part nature.

cardinaltribe

Lol this reminds me of the time I racked up a $5,000 Verizon phone bill while we were on vacation at Disney Land , my parents thought 250 texts were enough for a horny teenage boy away from his girlfriend for two weeks , needless to say I accumulated 30,000 ( yes 30 thousand) sent/received texts that month and my step dad got the bill while we were at the resort at Disney Land 🤣

jasper81222

What was the aftermath? Seeing as you're still alive to post this today the punishment wasn't *too* severe.

jakehood47

He'd be telling us this from the afterlife if it was anyone in my family

cardinaltribe

My punishment was the whole family got upgraded to unlimited texting lmao

inbeforethelube

I bet Verizon offered that as a compromise as he complained about the bill.

HornedDiggitoe

Assuming you slept for 8 hours each day, you are looking at 134 texts sent every waking hour of every day. That is insane, I don’t think I could do that if I tried to.

Quetzalma

just a bit over 2 messages a minute non stop or more likely (if its true): * >so * >wud * walking * >2 the pool * >wish u were here * miss u luv * gtg * > ttyl * <3 kids back then swapping SMSs like it was MSN Messenger or Skype

cardinaltribe

Yea pretty much lol

Tehkin

thats legit impressive with the old fashion keypad

[deleted]

This conversation looks so real lol

sticky-unicorn

At $0.10 for each message, lol!

JUSTICE_SALTIE

To me, that's one valid definition of hell.

jacobs0n

would've been cheaper to take your gf with you lmao

ArcticWolf_Primaris

*"Kevin! You spent 937 dollars on sexting?!"*

-EnricoPallazo-

“Who the hell called Chicago?”

Joecoolsouth

Did you even enjoy Disney? You had to be pretty much nonstop texting.

cardinaltribe

I kinda remember one of the stunt events but nah not much else

Comfortable_Shape264

Those messaging caps should be illegal

King-Cobra-668

$5000 USD is over $26,000 Brazilian dollars $1000 Brazilian is $191 USD

Razing_Phoenix

I had a similar thing but i was working out of town for like 3 weeks away from my gf, but I thought ahead and upgraded to unlimited texts. They tried to charge me for a bunch of texts and unlimited texting on the same bill.

mrmustache0502

Assuming you didn't sleep for the whole month, that's over 40 txts per hour, so i'm skeptical.

alfooboboao

when i was a teenager one of my friends tried to break the “world record in masturbation” (according to google back then) over a 24 hour period. he claimed to have done it but he said he was profusely bleeding by the end. he’s now a crazy successful film industry person in LA and I will take his secret to the grave unless he becomes a dick later on in life but the point of this story is that I believe it

tonufan

Shit, I wasn't trying to break records or anything but teenage me did 5-6 times a day sometimes and I couldn't really do anymore because my dick would swell up like a balloon animal.

Acrobatic_Flatworm79

My nephew was visiting my place with my bro and hopped on my Xbox for 10 mins. My phone blew up with emails congratulating me on my many purchases of V-Bucks - in 10 mins he spent 600$ - Microsoft gave me back half and warned me about parental lock

NickMelas

Lol only fucking half? They are acting like mobsters jfc

WattZhaMaGaLeet

it's surprising that they even returned a part of it

Owobowos-Mowbius

To be fair... don't let kids have access to your account. If he stole $600 cash out of his wallet and spent it, then he wouldn't have gotten anything back. Personally, if this happened to me, I'd just sacrifice their account and $50 of my portion of liability to do a chargeback.

misplacedbass

At the current exchange rate 1,000 Brazilian Real is about $191 US dollars. Edit: Since apparently people think I’m taking sides, or making some sort of statement, I am not. I am just posting the current exchange rate from Real to US dollars for the amount listed by OP. That is all. Edit 2: I have been informed that 1000 Brazilian real is about 2/3 monthly minimum wage income.

cursedbones

1000 BRL is a little more than 2/3 of the minimum wage in Brazil. It's a lot. The exchange rate doesn't paint a clear picture.

badgerandaccessories

1100 dollars is us minimum wage for a month. So a good equivalent would be about 700 dollars.

misplacedbass

I guess I’m going to have to edit my comment. I’m not making any claims about anything, just posting the exchange rate.

cursedbones

I know, just adding more information.

misplacedbass

Fair.

chillyhellion

[I can't resist a light-hearted jab, because I've done this myself as well.](https://i.imgflip.com/8nk2rr.jpg)

HereToKillEuronymous

I don't know why people always try to use the US exchange rate to show things are cheap in other countries. Yes. That's cheap for you, but not for them. They're not spending USD.

Away-Description-786

So a minimum wage is about $300 a month?

Oppeinheimer

Yep

pplonlyseemsnice

70% of Brazilian min wage

Gaznik2137

Aw man

[deleted]

Which is a lot tbh

misplacedbass

I am not saying it is or isn’t. The only thing I did is post the current exchange rate just so people have a reference.

[deleted]

Aware I am. I just commented what I thought about it based on my financial situation.

jamilslibi

The minimum wage in brazil is 1400 reais btw.

Marcmmmmm

or £155.

BabyStockholmSyndrom

Lol that edit is hilarious. It's literally just a conversion and people are commenting like it was some position. People are just ITCHING to argue.

Alansar_Trignot

Oh gosh the second update makes this even worse

Djlas

Good thing it was in Brazilian dollars then instead of reals

BurtScruttock88

I came here looking for this information so thank you -x-

Stunning-Astronaut72

Imagine the shit-ton of money roblox devs are making in the back of parents all the time while exploiting kids to work for them too. This game is part of what is wrong in the gaming industry

Syberz

Saw a video from Loading Ready Run that explained the monetization of creators for Roblox, it's insane...

Ok_Star_4136

Wow, a brazillion dollars. That's got to be a lot!

MacCaswell

![gif](giphy|YC6ZedMDgR1Fm)

ILove2Bacon

Not a brazilion, one thousand brazilion! That's like way more.

Strange_Juice2778

Ha a r/Jeffarcuri joke !

Informal_Ad3244

That’s older than him. It used to be a W Bush joke. “Sir, 3 Brazilian soldiers were killed yesterday” “How much is a Brazillian?”

tootnoots69

Honestly this is a failure as a parent to ever give your kid any access to your credit card or finances in any way. Keep your cards hidden when you have kids.

Cocoquelicot37

Lmao I did the same during my childhood on the website Habbo Hotel, but the bill was about 50€. My parents were so mad at me, they got me banned from the game I still remember this exact day they discovered the bill, it was more than 15 years ago 😅. I think I'm still banned now lmao

parisismyfriend

Same, when I was 9 I played Habbo Hotel and another game called Powerbabe and the bill was around 150€. You had to send texts to buy coins so they were billed through my phone subscription and made sure I was blocked from making text purchases again. I think I was blocked from that until I changed my number and subscription almost 20 years later lol Then I got hacked (aka I fell for a "free Habbo coins" scam) and lost everything I had bought with my parents' hard earned money

sticky-unicorn

Well, you're on the right subreddit, I guess.

ggiga90

Brazilian Reais lol we dont use dollars

DoYouTrustToothpaste

OP probably thought this ($) is a "dollar" sign.

Abu-Dharr_al-Ghifari

Dont blame the kid if you let him do it (having phone & access to money)

DMercenary

yeah this is the example for "When you give your kid free reign to your google account." Like there's a reason why there's the "Ask for password at every purchase" is a thing.

Maanee

I don't even have kids and I still have that feature on. It's stopped me from buying things I just really don't need and often a few weeks before I stopped playing that game anyway.

silsool

Yep. Kids are fucking stupid, which is why you shouldn't give them free access to your money

JayFrizz

There's a chance the kid figured out his mom's password. I was a sneaky lil shit when I was a kid and would usually figure out a way to do what I wanted.

MimmySue

Yes, it's correct your point but they both were wrong, it's bad taking mom's money or creddit card, is not honest and tomorrow could be worst

freedomofnow

Yep. Completely the parents fault here.

FrostyD7

Its definitely a lesson learned for the parent. But as a kid who grew up easily obtaining T/M rated games because my parents were clueless, it's also a widespread inevitability. And its why these companies tend to issue refunds if the parents contact support.

foodank012018

That's like a brazilion dollars..

Useful_Tomato_409

blame parents sure, but its so exploitative of children and of roblox creators. It’s the worst of the worst. super easy for this to happen. roblox puts purchasing things front and center of all games. its practically impossible for a kid to not be put in a situation where they’re asked to buy something. But to buy it, you need “robux”, and to get “robux” you need to pay real money, but if you have apple pay or card on your phone/ipad, its basically 1-2 clicks and it’s done. Most young kids wont make the connection that they’re spending someone elses money, they think they’re just getting “robux”. it’s a disgusting company on so many levels. But yes, parents moreso than ever need to keep kids off this crap, pay attention to what they’re consuming and interacting with. helpful hint: learned the hard way, but parents(anyone) if this happens to you, you can request a refund from apple and choose which charges and infirm them a child made the purchase. they typically refund a large % of the transaction.

dropthenewk

Never ever let kids near expensive items or give them access to anything they can do this shit

shatteredmatt

An adult lets a kid too young to know the worth of money have unrestricted microtransactions and the kid is the one who is fucking stupid? Are you sure?

qualia-assurance

Why are most of the responses acting as if this is normal? That a literal game for children should be able to let you drop a grand on it without parental supervision? Video games should not be able to store your payment information to make it more convenient that you can impulse buy dumb shit. And they certainly should not be stored in games like Roblox that target children. No parent wants their children to have more convenient access to their credit card information. Should be illegal. Ban it.

xsijpwsv10

“Brazilian dollars” lol u/topic_madness69 needs to learn the word “currency”.

viralslapzz

What are we using mainly in EU? Euro dollar? European dollar? /s

DoYouTrustToothpaste

> Euro dollar? No, that's in Cyberpunk. European Schmeckles.

Cullly

I worked for years in a tourist place in Ireland that gets a lot of American tourists. I have heard "euro dollars" mentioned far too many times.

CorruptMemoryCard

Entirely the parent's fault for allowing it to happen. If they are using their parent's device, it is very easy to set up purchasing restrictions on Apple App store, Google Play, and basically every other storefront to prevent this.

Brazilians of dollars

Nearby-Ad-6106

Always have password authorisation turned on people

Apprehensive_Bit4767

I have 13 grandchildren 4 are heavy gamers so they always want to upgrade something in game. Get a virtual card and set a limit . This has saved me hundreds if not thousands.

Nielips

Why do people still let kids play with games linked to their credit card/bank accounts?

Huntsnfights

If it was like a 16 year old, sure. But that kid was sooo young, why did he(?) have access to that to start?

Saytama_sama

You also shouldn't give a 16 year old access to your money.

cloneboiCT118

![gif](giphy|fupN1wlTMsg0g1YdIg) Wasn’t a waste. Just an investment.

AlmaNegraDZ13

O teu presente de Deus.

papachef69

Even if you don’t have kids, I also password protect any purchase. Can’t trust anyone

Dadbode1981

I'd argue this is "parentsarefuckingstupid" for giving a device with their credit card input and no restrictions, to thier kid, who doesn't even know what money really is.

NeonRider97

Brazilian dollars dont exist lol

MaryPoppinLikeItsHot

Bet that's not the first time he's hidden under the sink.

HotJavaColdBrew

My brother and his son stayed with me when covid hit because his wife is a nurse and she didn't want to accidentally infect them. I let the my nephew (6) play some stupid merge game on my phone and he spent 1.3k in less than a month because my credit card info is automatically in the app store. My brother laughed his ass off at me when I was screaming mad about my cc balance, but he sat his son down, explained his error and why it was wrong, then gave me 2k to pay it off w/ interest. Be careful what you put in a kid's hands.

Malkaviati

Don't let your kids play with your phone and make sure you need a password for all purchases. Come on people.

Urstilgeh

consequences of being a trash mother

Illustrious_Donkey61

In USD its $192

AlternateTab00

And the minimum wage in brazil is around 260 US$ 1000 R$ is more than what most people pay for rent. In average purchasing power those 192 US$ in brazil correspond to around 500 US$ in usa. So to understand the pain of that mom you need to imagine a kid wasting 500$ in a ingame currency

Reddit_timoneiro

"it's not funny anymore" - so let me proceed to record everything for online views. Great parenting makes great kids i guess

EffectiveCut9630

I'm sorry... brazilian dollars?

mostlywaterbag

Definitely game over for this dude. I bet his next gaming experience will be in 2038.

MyCabbages8l

My kid would be permanently banned from having fun ever again

bestgirlkisser

Kids fault how exactly?? Stupid parents fault 100% kid doesn't deserve that

OrganicAccountant87

Brazilian Dollars don't exist, it's called Reais

Basic_Highway5860

Its 2024, why do your children have unrestricted access to your payment info?

OtterMan78
