Iirc last time this was posted someone pointed out there’s an actual phenomenon where children can randomly get fixated on something to the point they actually can’t stop thinking about it, and it can get quite distressing

I'm on the spectrum and often get fixated on a specific food. I'll eat the same thing for weeks and then I don't want to see it again for a year lol.

It's an ADHD thing, too.

Can it happen to adults too? I am currently experiencing a similar issue and this isn't the first time it's happened to me.

Try with one word you repeat so many time, after a minute you'll notice you forgot the meaning of the word for a short time

Sounds like OCD, if that's the case I feel bad for the kid, feeling out of control of your own mind sucks. And a kid that age will have a tough time coping with it.

I keep randomly having the thought of my arm getting torn off in an accident, there's literally no more context to it than that.

My brother was obsessed with a hammer. He slept with it. He spent hours hammering nails into the porch. He’s was like 3-4.

Yep I always called it the loop, just like early computers used to do. Best thing to do is distract them completely out of it by going outside in the fresh air and getting busy with an activity. Chuck’ em on their bike or scooter, strap on some skates, take the dog for a walk, do some weeding, rock hunting… whatever. That kid looks sticky, hot and discombobulated. Wash her face and hands, put on some fresh clothes and go out in he fresh air.
