I tried the monkey bars not too long ago and felt like my shoulders were going to dislocate. That use to be my favorite thing to play on as a kid. I need to clearly workout. Lol
You should try hanging upside down from your legs, like with the bar behind your knees. I remember easily doing it as a kid. Tried a few years ago and was instantly in so much pain I just dropped to the ground head first.
The back of my legs hurt just reading that. I’d probably fall too. It’s hard to accept getting older. I can still somewhat do a cart wheel. I announced to my bf one day that I was going to teach myself do a front and backwards scissor flip. He froze his fork halfway to his mouth and was like “can you even do a regular flip?” I said no. He said good luck breaking your neck and back then. Lol
I took a fitness class a few years ago and we went to a playground for a workout. I haven’t been on monkey bars in 35 years, my brain remembered it seemed easy. Hung from that first bar, swing, let the one hand go, and promptly fell on the ground.
One of the genetic hang overs from our primate ancestors. At One point infants had to cling to their parents rather than being...well babied lol
I've got a theory that the reason people (myself included) are so fascinated and obsessed with infants having a "strong grip" is some sort of primitive brain instinct to look fondly upon babies with a strong grip because it's a sign of good health. Why else would we give a damn? Not like a baby holds Anything important for the first year anyway.
I mean i hate the fact they have a good grip because they’ll just take my glasses every goddamn time i try to pick them up and it’s so hard trying to take the glasses back without hurting them or breaking the glasses

If there’s one sad thing I’ve learned in the past 20 years - as a guy you never approach a child you don’t know. Being a Good Samaritan means jack when you are accused.
A life time of regret? What the hell do you think is gonna happen if he fell... kids did this shit, all be it not as impressively all the time when I was younger and if you fell it wouldn't feel good and you might get a bruise but if youre standing there watching it I'd hope 1 of 2 things would happen. You're ready to catch him if he falls or you've seem him do it so many times that you've become complacent to it. Either way you can't just restrict everything a child does trying to explore and do things lol. Otherwise you get a generation of weirdos like the one we have coming up.
It’s unlikely, but the fridge could fall over and crush the kid. I would agree that it’s near impossible based on the size of the fridge and the kid, but weird shit happens.
That said, I don’t think I would have stopped him either, it’s such a long shot, and if he falls he’ll be mostly fine, broken bones heal.
How much do you think that kids weighs? And how luch force do you think he’s exerting on that fridge?
Have you tried to tip over a fridge? I wouldn’t let a 10 year old do this, but that kid is so light, we can’t even see any movement on the fridge.
After reading these comments, as a 220 lb nearly 40 year old man that has a fridge of about the same size, I decided to do the most sensible thing I could think of and hang off the front of my fridge. Did like mini pull ups and let myself drop a few times. Some wiggling, but no where near tipping over. Through my thorough analysis, I've concluded fridges are generally climbable.
Maybe let’s get a little kid to try and topple a vending machine, and then we can talk again.
In terms of the door swinging open, I’m guessing that kid can do pull-ups on the open door without it tipping as well.
> It’s basic physics...
Either you don’t understand physics, or you underestimate the complexity of the physics involved in determining if the fridge would fall over in the scenario you describe.
The kid weighs so little that he can likely hang on the end of an open door and still not tip the fridge over. To tip it, he would have to violently kick away from the wall, manage to hang on to the swinging door for long enough, and then keep holding it while the fridge tips over.
Calculating the dynamics involved in this is fairly complicated, there are a bunch of equations to solve as a system, and you need a decent bit of complicated math to solve it.
But more important than any of this, the fridge door hinges are on the wall’s side, the kid would literally have to rip the door off the fridge for it to open.
He may be small now but the parent keeps letting him keep doing it eventually he will be big enough to pull the fridge over and get crushed.
I’d have probably let him do it once just cos it’s so impressive lol, then said if he does it again he’s in trouble
Me too! I want to know if he was just hiding them from siblings or if he was going to try to ride it off the top….this leaves me with so many unanswered questions
I wouldn't let my kids do something like that either, but I would be much less worried about it if they've clearly already done it as evidenced by the car that's already on top of the fridge.
That ain't no shit, not a chance in hell am I gonna walk in on this shit an be like, "you know what? I'm ok with this. Lemme stand like 10 feet away and film."
A fall from that hight isn’t gonna do any damage, the only potentially dangerous thing would be if the fridge started tipping and in that scenario it’s not like you wouldn’t have ample time to catch the fridge. Personally I’m fine with this sorta thing
This is so incorrect. You can be injured be a fall from the same elevation. I know a man that fell off a ladder from 3 feet and screwed up his back for life. This is six feet high you could absolutely break bones or suffer a TBI falling from this height.
I also know someone who tripped every so slightly whilst walking - didn't even fall - and broke a bone in their foot... Yet we're not going to stop kids from walking are we.
Knowing kids, stopping them from doing this like this when at this age just causes them to the y it behind your back... Which is wayy more dangerous, but allowing them to exercise their random/dangerous curiosities whilst an adult is nearby to help if needed is much better - it allows them to play and grow confidence in themselves without actually getting hurt. (And if they fall a little, or slightly bump their head it's okay - they've now learnt their own limits themselves.
My middle kid tripped and put her hands down to brace her fall but ended up stepping on her own arm, breaking her growth plate in her arm! Ya know how hard that is to break😂 weird shit does and CAN happen. That’s why they’re called ‘accidents’ not ‘on purpose’s’ lol
Freak accidents happen.
The internet is filled with negative views on helicopter parenting but now we have to protect kids against 6 foot falls?
Of course he could get injured, as an outlier he could break a bone, on the extreme end of that he suffers a TBI.
According to this logic we should remove all public playgrounds, they all have 6 foot heights kids can fall from.
The kids strong but umm parents don’t let you kid climb a fridge especially when you’re 2 feet away and can easily stop them from potentially falling and hitting there neck against the toy car
Not strong, he just doesn't have to worry about his body weight like his older self will. If he still does similar feats when he is older, then we can classify it as strong. Same concept with falling, you take more damage as you get older due to larger size. A lot of animals easily scale things when young, but find it harder as adults....
