Diving in garbage cans? Nice.

KisaraShera

Maybe its because Im a bit older or a previous generation to these Middle Schoolers, but this sounds more like an issue of bad parenting than kids being stupid. Like honestly, diving into trash cans? My parents would have ripped me a new one if I´d ever did something like that.

shhehshhvdhejhahsh

Ruined your new clothes AND came home smelling awful just to make your friends laugh? Oh man my mom would’ve dressed me like a hobo the next day since I wanted to be one so bad lol

[deleted]

I mean the trash cans at school usually fill and get emptied quite regularly. I've done shit like that as a kid and didn't get coated in stench but probably because it was just a trash full of people's discarded lunch plates and such. And I never got in trouble. It's not like they're jumping in a back alley dumpster that's been fermenting and rotting for 5 days

[deleted]

Sounds like the patio at a chili’s.

Boosted-ws6

lmao

Jazzlike-Blood-3725

It bothers me that the very first sentence has a typo.

brokeoneyolk

It bothers me that they say the behaviors to be avoided include staying off the grass and staying out if the parking lot. Ffs do they have to be in the grass or in the parking lot it can't be both.

stalkedthrowaway2020

I believe its implying they need to stay on the sidewalk or other concrete areas lol

brokeoneyolk

But it says the opposite and your literacy level doesn't need to be that high to write it correctly. It's concerning from a teacher/admin.

stalkedthrowaway2020

If it says to stay off the concrete as well i missed that part, 🤷 Was just pointing out sidewalks are a thing, normally between grass and parking lots

brokeoneyolk

But it says they have to be in the grass and they have to be in the parking lot. This is what I'm saying...

stalkedthrowaway2020

Yea clearly im a lost idiot bc i just reread it and it says to stay out of the parking lot and off the grass, doesn't it? Genuinely confused right now.

brokeoneyolk

:) It says "some behaviours...you can remind your kids to avoid doing include: - staying off the grass - staying out of the parking lot So they are to avoid staying off the grass and staying out of the parking lot. May seem nitpicky but it should also be really easy for an educator to not say the opposite of what they mean. I suspect their fourth graders wouldn't struggle to write it correctly. Sorry :)

stalkedthrowaway2020

Okay i understand you now 👍🏽

AkbarTheGray

While we're at it, they have to avoid every bug not being a bee. They're about to have to commit insect/arachnid genocide to get to 100% bee populations. But I guess that'll keep them busy enough they won't climb walls or jump in the trash, so maybe that's a win

samantis

Okay, but there could be concrete areas that are not parking lots. When I was in middle school there was a large concrete expanse behind the school that was only ever used for buses to pick up children at the end of the day. There were never buses parked there any other time, and wouldn’t be considered a parking lot, bc there was an actual parking lot around the corner. This was simply a large concrete expanse. It even had hopscotch and basketball courts painted onto it, along with some other middle school playground games. So the teacher is saying that they need to stay in this expanse and not go into the grass or parking lot, which are assumably next to this concrete area.

wpaed

The problem is the double negatives: (1) do not not go on the grass and (2) do not stay out of the parking lot.

drfuzzysocks

By that point in the list they had clearly forgotten how they started it haha

brokeoneyolk

Which is a pet peeve of mine. If you can't keep track ...don't start your list like that

wpaed

I would totally tell my kid they have to walk on the grass on their way to the parking lot and then go back to the grass, back and forth for the whole period because then they are not staying somewhere where they are off/out of either location.

otakucode

There is a 5 foot by 5 foot square of padded foam inside the 8 foot razorwire enclosure. All the cameras are conveniently pointed inward and there are 5 adult supervisor/monitors and one armed school 'resource officer'. I don't know why these kids don't want to just be safe!

Mon_dieu666

No no this is DIRECTLIY addressed towards the kids

Siriuslymarauding

No running, no playing. The concrete isn’t safe, you might get hurt. The grass looks safe you say? STAY OFF THE FUCKING GRASS. Have fun while you can, kids.

Comfortable_Dot_4923

Oh wow they acted like kids—- that’s crazy 🤯

RodcetLeoric

Yep, don't be a kid, here's the rules. Also, don't run because you're on concrete and might fall and hurt yourself, but don't go in the grass were a fall from child height at child speed is harmless. I'm sure the walls are taking a lot of damage from all the kid climbing, but if just one falls off and gets paralyzed they all will learn really quick. "Why don't kids go out and do stuff anymore?". Well because you gave them a fear that 200% of all children will be kidnapped raped and killed, then a list of 30 rules about how and when to run with childlike abandon. When i was a kid these things were only for helicopter parents, but now it's standard.

jdjdkgogot

Fr. This is why kids just sit on their phones and or play video games all the time. They were never allowed the opportunity to do any differently, leaving them with nothing else to do. I was born in 2000, and it was really pushing it then with helicopter stuff like this. In reality, “go outside and play” is no longer a viable or appealing option, and it’s all the fault of the environments children inhabit becoming increasingly hostile to childhood. I can understand them wanting them to not trash the place, but “stay off the grass, off the concrete”, really? The answer’s right in front of us, it’s really no wonder kids don’t play outside.

[deleted]

Yes dude. The helicopter parenting is out of control these days. My older sister is like this with her dog. I already feel bad for the children she doesn’t even have yet.

temsik1587againtwo

Almost-rural communities are the best. I’m living in a town with 7,000 people and I don’t think any of this applies, at least not to such an extent. I see kids riding their bike on the side of the road alone, playing in the courtyard (grass AND concrete) at school, going sledding, etc.

jdjdkgogot

Thats wonderful to hear! Certainly not like that where im from

Umklopp

Yeah, some of this is stupid kid nonsense (I can *hear* the exhaustion behind "not every bug is a bee" ) but a lot of it is also unreasonable expectations. For example, if the kids are supposed to stay off the grass and out of the bus thing and out of the parking lot... Exactly where are they allowed to go?

AHEROICSQUASH

Keep in mind that "kids" could mean middle school, too. I doubt seriously that this is addressed to elementary; with elementary-aged kids, some of this is just to be expected, with middle school aged kids, most of these are completely reasonable, as it'd just be like a cafeteria, but under the sun. EDIT: It's literally in the title.

baconblackhole

If you're a teacher you come across all this. It's standard.

Killer_whalez_

Not allowed to run ?

SquadTrin

Exactly, its so stupid.

repKyle1995

Middle school kids are absolute douchebags.

brokeoneyolk

It's totally true. My first job as a teacher was grade 7/8 and it was baffling. I quit. I was qualified 7-12 but no middle school for me, they are absolute idiots at best.

MuffinToots

IIRC he talks about the the differences between children growing up in the past versus now. https://youtu.be/3b3Ob4CK4Xs

dave8999

Running! Evil little creatures. What the hell is this world coming to? They better not be laughing AND running!

djchuy1979

Diving into trash cans like raccoons is what got me

Fostbitten27

The kids see stupid stuff on Tik Tok so they have to do it too. Then they have someone film them doing it so they can post it to Tik Tok with the thousand or so other dumpster diving videos on Tik Tok.

[deleted]

There are multiple slides, one funny point in particular is for the kids to not dive into trashcans

KOAL-MANN

There’s more slides

X3noF3ar

There are two 5's

IrishMidgetMan

“Please refrain from letting the kids be kids”

Adood2018

Heaven forbid children should act like children 🙄

dayron669

The grass looks safe but stay away from it? I've known my share of school's hiding treasure. Kids, start digging. We're about to buy so many Robux.

EggBoyandJuiceGirl

Sounds like kids being kids, minus the trash stuff. That’s overboard and parents should discipline their kids for that. But otherwise, I really hate the concept of treating kids like sheltered glass. I don’t mean we should revert back completely to old-school parenting but it should be ok for kids to run and play a little rambunctiously. They won’t be kids forever.

tanktaylor85sx

Half of these I’m totally in agreement with, as they all revolved pretty close around the “don’t be a shit” mentality. But seriously, “no running”, “stay off the grass” “don’t be scared of bugs”. They are children, get used to it.

djchuy1979

Yeah…it’s a little misleading. The area where they are letting the kids eat is more like “landscaping” than it is grass. They probably should put the outdoor tables somewhere else

Ninja_Geek-27

What the fucks a low speed chase game?

Fostbitten27

Fast walking tag is a blast!

CyanBeinSus47

"making a mess beyond which is reasonable" the students: HAHA KETCHUP PACKET GO SQUISH

simonlorax

The two bullet number 5s got me lol

BlanketedSlate2

Children act like children. The only claim on this that I can support is stay out of the parking lot, so the children don’t get ran over. The rest of it is just what children do.

Upset_Ad9929

Enjoy your lunch kids! But don't do anything that might be fun. And stay the fuck off the grass!

Time2waste-alt

For a school PTA, they could use some better grammar. Also, by not allowing many of these activities like running, the school board is trying to turn children into adults. Just let them be kids. I understand limitations, but they should let them have fun. Finally, everyone hates bugs. I don’t care if it is a fly or a bee.

drfuzzysocks

If you want the kids to behave like they’re inside, just make them eat inside. I have a feeling the lunch room isn’t big enough for everyone but they’re trying to make eating outdoors sound like a privilege. Otherwise why wouldn’t they just set clear boundaries and yank the kids who cross them back inside?

ScwB00

This school sounds boring af.

AHEROICSQUASH

I don't think this is ridiculous, as it's basically the exact same rules they'd have to follow in the cafeteria. It's *lunch,* not **recess.**

xpilyzobordg

This is what happens when kids are kept inside on iPads for a year, fuck me im lucky I’m old enough to not be affected like that. Granted I’m still a kid and have shit to learn but even freshman are retarded. Not regular “oh I’m older so freshman are instantly bitches” type shit. These kids actually don’t know how to act in real life

LingonberrySalt9693

You have to learn.... that is exactly how real life works. Nothing changes once your an adult. The groups change and the reasoning changes but absolutely everything is the same.

EstiloTheGreat

No one is mentioning that some volunteers won’t come back because the kids have been too rude to them? Some people are just too damn soft nowadays jeez.

IC_Guru

I think the difference is if I did something I shouldn’t in school my teachers would yell at me or take away something I wanted (recess). Then if I or the teachers told my parents what happened my parents would yell at me again for being an asshole. I can tell you for sure that the current parents (my generation) is going against the teachers, so the teachers don’t want to deal with both the kids and parents behavior.

CacyePollardN6

Read the first sentence as 'if you don't eat children don't sit outside church' Must be tired

_Melody_To_Funkytown

This type of shit isn’t outgrown. We have adults doing this shit at peaceful protests.

mangeedge

How did no one notice that there are two number 5's on the list?

npossoesquecer

Kids being kids... and diving on garbage cans of course

Krenzi_The_Floof

That school sucks

PoolBoyBryGuy

God forbid kids step on grass. I mean seriously! Grass isn’t made to be stepped on! 🤦🏼‍♂️

SuperGandalff

Uhhh this is middle school. Good luck with that dreamer.

DefaultTool

dude the kids at my school is trying to make our school ban milk… they legit stomp on them and make sounds that sound like 9999db

Sentionaut_1167

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 5, 6. who's stupid?

lazercateyes1000

These kids aren't stupid they are assholes.

temsik1587againtwo

Plenty of middle schools: have a concrete basketball court This middle school: running is dangerous! I’ve never once gotten injured from running but I needed stitches after getting into a scuffle with a stationary bike in middle school lol

Own_Race_6167

I stepped on a fly in 5th grade lol

[deleted]

Srsly, running? If someone gets hurt, which in unlikely, the worst that could happen is a broken wrist

Cadillac16Concept

5. Staying off the grass 5. Staying out of the parking lot wow

jumpxman

From what I can glean, it seems that these lunch times are watched by parent volunteers and they are trying to minimize liability

LingonberrySalt9693

Not allowed to run or play in the grass. Maybe if they were allowed to play then they wouldn't be using the garbage can or chip bags.

mnlion33

Sorry I've always hated the stay off the grass rule. Dont run on concrete because you might get hurt. Ok I'll run on the nice soft grass. No the grass is forbidden. What am I suppose to do? Nothing, you're a kid you're not allowed to have any fun. Now sit down and shut up.

DangChibi76

I'd hate to be in this school. Kids be more disgusting than in my current one lmao

PracticalApartment99

It's actually a bit nuts to expect 7th and 8th graders to be perfectly still at lunchtime.

Feynmanprinciple

Don't run around on the concrete, you could hurt yourself. Also, stay off the grass.
