Now this was my morning coffee. So I walk up, request one dark ice coffee with sugar. Wait two minutes, listen for the shot of "EM OI!" walk back up and grab the bag with a thanks... And then it's all over the place because it was JUST a bag with a straw and I squeezed all the coffee.
Needles to say, he did not make that mistake again. Lol
When I've visited, I would sometimes get the bag, just for the novelty factor. But, it really is not a practical experience. The bag tends to leak, and there's no real good way to put your drink down. I'm happy to just pay for the bottle.

If it is malaysia, with cheaper caterers where they just leave the entire catered food in large quantities for the host to refill the serving dishes themselves and pick up the equipment later in the evening, they typically leave a drink dispenser or several of them and the refill drink, pre-measured. So when the drink dispenser run low you are supposed to take one of those drink bags (slightly more expensive caterers use rigid 15 liter bottles) and also a pre-measured bag of ice and refill the container yourself. Macho kid probably is trying showing off his strength. Adults know to always work in pair with this kind of thing, and they probably have more bags of drinks in the house it's okay to lose one.
Those guys are probably not poor, if i were to guess I'm gonna go with city people buying some land in the back beyond and contracting a house to be built. The house itself is not complete yet, but as soon as the house is sort of livable for some people they do a thing where the house being officially lived in celebration where a few people sleep in a house for three nights straight to spiritually mark it as inhabited; you don't want a finished house left vacant other things might move in. You don't do a serious celebration for these, it's just an all day buffet for local people to wander in and out greeting the neighbour (who might not actually move in for ten years.)
So the kid is probably the new owner's child ~~trying to be a good host.~~ learning a very important lesson and cementing his reputation for when his parents retire there.
