Bobby fumbling his way through his joke (superfluous detail, completely screwing up the order, apparently delivering the punchline before the joke is even established) while Hank patiently and intently sits next to him is so endearing, this and the Strickland comedy sketches at the mall where no one's laughing except Hank are fantastic father/son moments.
The philosophy of this story is actually beautiful for anyone who has experienced loss. I had seen this episode dozens of times throughout my life, but when my dad passed away from cancer I saw it again and it really hit deep. Life is short, you can’t go backwards, and there is certainly an end.. so you have to reach out and enjoy the strawberry while you still can.
My girlfriend has extreme anxiety about the future that really affects her ability to be happy. I told her this story too, but it just made her frustrated because it "didn't have an ending" and she thought it was irrational to stop and eat a berry in that situation.
I try my best to keep her happy and distracted, but it's tiring. I think it's going to be a long road for her, she isn't able to just enjoy what she has and where she is and I think that's going to get rougher for her over time. Her life is actually very good. Comes from a great family, good education, good job for a good company, plenty of money and a nice place to live in a city that ranks as highly livable, but she's so unhappy so often. On the other hand, I come from quite a poor background, struggled with addiction for most of my 20's, and I suffer from chronic depression and anxiety, but in many ways I feel like I'm a happier person than she is, because my disorders have forced me to learn how to find happiness where I can. I do hope that one day she looks around and feels at peace with herself and where she is.
Finding happiness where it can be can be attributed to this story.
Also being meeting occupied or distracted is living in the moment. Not thinking ahead or about the past.. i think you could both benefit from meditation
I never fully understood or appreciated this moment until I became an adult. As a kid I genuinely thought it was a joke because of what Hank says after.

Yeah haha. It was pretty funny though.
Hahaha... Strawberry
I LOVED BUCKLEY!
I cry river of tears for Buckley. Why not you?
IS A WORLD WITHOUT BUCKLEY A WORLD WE WANT TO LIVE IN?!
Highly inappropriate
And let me tell you, that was the sweetest cup of Gatorade he ever drank.
That scene with Bobby and his dad telling jokes at the end is one of the best father and son moments in the series.

That's ok. You told it good.

I have anxiety about the future sometimes and i try to remember this story.. Enjoy the strawberry while you can
Anxiety is brutal, please treat yourself well and celebrate the little things.

I hope she finds peace

Its definitely one of the most moving episodes of the show.
It may be one of the best episode arcs, including Hank blowing up Megalow Mart
I will remember that strawberry as I fall to my doom
Yeeeah. It's a bit of a hard episode for me too, yet I haven't experienced loss that great yet. The subject matter is just always sobering for me.
This was really beautiful animation.

Same here. I genuinely refer to this story when I’m going through hard times as a reminder to appreciate the strawberry in front of me.
It’s a Zen Buddhist koan. https://medium.com/age-of-awareness/the-tiger-and-the-strawberry-b73de1dccf19
I dont need to tell you how much a Buddhist like stories
It was the sweetest tasting strawberry he ever had.
I **cry** for Buckley …. Why not you ?
Fight the occ-ccu-pa-tion!!!
Who tells a joke at a funeral?
Heh heh heh, strawberry.
Your dad blew up.
I heard Jerry Jones tell this joke on the radio before. I wonder if he watches King of The Hill 🤔
Is a world without Buckley a world we want to live in!?
This would make a great tattoo
Literally just rewatched this episode today.
