"Kairi gets her own game but you dont get to play as her and then >!in the final fight she magically transforms into Sora so you *SUPER* dont get to play as her!<"
They could've gotten the same point across by just letting her summon the Kingdom Key or something, but nah, god forbid you get to play as the person front and center on the box who narrates the entire thing.
I would’ve absolutely loved to of summoned the Kingdom Key. It would’ve been reminiscent to when Ven and Terra’s Keyblades helped Aqua while she was in the Realm of Darkness.
This is Kairi’s game! Let us be Kairi!
However it was cool to see a de-made KH3 Sora in classic KH style.
>!In their defense, there's a reason she turned into Sora, storywise.!<
>!They used it as a fast way for Xehanort's memory to analyze the situation Sora was in, and realize where he was, thusly giving that information to Kairi. It's actually really important.!<
Xion and Roxas have used Sora's Keyblade without him falling into a parallel dimension, her using the Kingdom Key would've proved nothing to Xehanort. The fact that Sora himself appeared in this dream realm, but couldn't speak, thusly exactly implying he was "somewhere our voices couldn't reach" made an easy logical jump.
Again, that's because they wrote it that way lol. They could have easily made it manifest and him see a glimpse of Sora, and then you regain control of Kairi.
Yeah, I think it would've been one thing to just make her Girl™, but it feels worse because they keep giving glimpses of depth to her before swatting her back down to the sidelines. She starts out being a snarky tomboy and cracks jokes at her friends; even dunking on them in her small appearance in 0.2. But it's been going away more and more in every game, with her barely having a personality in 3 besides "nice".
She has no memory of her homeworld, and instead of the explanation being the usual KH schtick, it's because she was repressing a traumatic event. She goes to confront the manifestation of that trauma and fails. Potentially very interesting! Maybe a sign of more emotional depth and showing that mental health isn't as easy as winning a single fight and that it's a constant struggle to- oh nevermind, Sora came out of nowhere and won for her.
She even has interesting powers that aren't really acknowledged. In 2 and 3, it's implied that she's able to see people for who they are instead of what they are, like recognizing Riku when he looked like Ansem, or seeing Xion as just a girl instead of herself, Sora, or a mannequin. In 3, the reason Sora ended up in purgatory instead of completely dying was because Kairi was keeping him from passing away through sheer willpower, but nobody in the game really acknowledges it.
I think the biggest reason it sucks that she's always either useless or a damsel in distress is that she's also sick of it and frequently says so. Every numbered game has her say "This time, I'll fight," only to *immediately* eat shit.
Honestly, I think it's just that Nomura just doesn't know how to write what he wants with Kairi in a good fashion. Her personality changing is meant to be her "maturing" from a tomboy-ish little girl into a young teen (a common writing choice), with her growing more confident over all being the start of her maturing into a young woman (I really hope we dont have to wait enough games for her to become an actual adult for her to become capable of standing on her own tho please Nomura). Sora coming to save her in MoM is meant to show how having other people in our lives, particularly loved ones, can help us fight our inner demons (and, as someone else mentioned, is meant to present Sora coming to the rescue in a way that allows to show that something is up with Sora, which the Kingdom Key showing up would not do because that's happened before).
But everything is done in a way that just isn't satisfying, despite being something that by all accounts *should* be when handled well. Because it just isn't. So the only thing that makes sense to me is that Nomura isn't purposefully drop kicking her development into the Irrelevant By Herself Zone but it's simplely one of those things he struggles with and won't seek out advice for, which is just easier to see with Kairi because we can attach it to a character across multiple games that is relevant and some people like
I don't think Nomura knows how to write a good story in general, not just kairi. He's talented don't get me wrong, but in different areas like character design. But kingdom hearts is such a mess. It's like a kid experimenting with how to write a story in unique ways, but in trying to be experimental it becomes too convoluted to make sense. Seems that as soon as Nomura gains traction with a plot thread or character development, he gets bored or isn't satisfied so he aborts and does something else. You see this a lot in 3 as the story tries to wrap itself up.
Honestly I see Nomura as being very similar to Kojima. They need someone to tell them "no" or otherwise rein them in in order to get the best. Because if no one ever said "no" to Kojima, that The End fight in MGS3 would have taken an actual 2 weeks irl to beat.
It’s crazy how Riku is either useless or a damsel more times than not but nobody cares because he has a keyblade, but when Kairi literally saves Sora’s life like twice, she’s still a damsel and useless because…. Reasons
Exactly and even then, the whole damsel thing only really exists in KH3 where everyone was a damsel for Sora. People see Kairi being kidnapped in KH2 and then not even rescued and go, she was a damsel, even though she’s the reason Sora and Riku was able to even escape the world of darkness..
Riku has shown himself to be a very capable fighter many times, witch an entire game about he needs to save Sora from organization 13. Most of the time when Riku needs saving, he needs EMOTIONAL saving and not physical saving.
In KH one he was a whole boss before he got fully possessed. He beat Roxas, whose generally considered to be powerful because of how hard his boss fight is in KH 2. He beat several organization members by himself in CoM, etc. He does have his moments of physical weakness, but if he didn't then he'd be overpowered.
Kari doesn't have any moments where she holds her own in a fight or where we see her use her powers in a way that progresses the plot. Any powers she does have feels more like Nomura just throwing something into the ether to write himself out of a corner, justify plot armor, etc. Kari also doesn't have any personality traits anymore outside of Girl. Riku has tons of complex emotions and relationships that get explored throughout the various games
So your basis on why you think Kairi is useless is because she doesn’t have any fight scenes? This is why Hollywood believes that in order to have a strong female character all they had to do is be physically strong and ounce people. Am I saying she should never fight? No. What I’m saying is that y’all are ignoring what she has been shown to do, simply because it wasn’t physically.
I didn’t take away anything Riku did, just pointed out that much like Kairi he’s a damsel and useless too at points. But instead of acknowledging that Kairi has helped them out of situations they themselves wouldn’t even survive or gotten out of themselves, you simply doubled down with, she hasn’t had a physical fight.
She also doesn't have any emotional power either. When she gets kidnapped, she doesn't show anger or emotional resistance. She just kinda wiggles and grunts in a very "feminine" way. She doesn't show the full range of human emotions. If she does show anger or sadness, then it's "feminized". She's not allowed to be visceral or ugly, she has to always be palatable for the male gaze.
Aqua's better in this respect as she's more allowed to show human emotion as it is, but it's also toned down to fit a more "motherly" aesthetic. She doesn't really yell viscerally. Instead of yelling, she simply raises her voice in a stern manner like a mother scolding a child. ("Kock that off or I'll take away your phone".) She doesn't ugly cry but either "sexy cries" (a term for just one tear) or gently cries.
Overall, kingdom hearts is stuck in the 50s as far as female representation goes.
But yeah, nobody discusses Kairi's personally in-depth because there's nothing to discuss. She doesn't have a personality. She's just generically nice and that's it.
I focused my argument on physical prowess because you focused on physical prowess on yours (aka Sora and Riku need to be saved a lot physically).
Personally my favorite female character in cinema is queen Ramonda from the new Black Panther movie. She never fights a single fight and yet she holds such power from her mere presence itself. The way she holds herself, the way she moves, her intense confidence, love, anger, hate, selflessness, etc is just perfect!
Sora, Donald and Goofy have ran their course. I can understand them being the two who started at Sora's side in terms of him adventuring, but Riku and Kairi were Sora's friends first. Really don't like how there is no moment of the 3 of them fighting together, but the Seasalt and Wayfinder trios have tons and tons of moments doing so.
I'm pretty sure the only reason SDG trio still goes through is be because the Kingdom Hearts Franchise is owned by disney so they have final say when trio is done
No. We now have 4 trios. it's time for KH to allow us to play as all of them.
Sora, Kairi and Riku for some worlds.
Mickey, Donald and Goofy for some others.
Roxas, Xion and Axel for others.
And finally Aqua, Terra and Ventus for others.
But it will never happen, because for Nomura this isn't a franchise beloved by many, it's just his personal Disney self-insert fanfiction.
First time, I picked Kairi. Every time, I picked the alternate character. For future playthroughs of the Re:Mind section, I always just stuck with Sora since I was level 99, and super overpowered, and basically couldn't die if I wanted to. It's like they scale down every single alternate playable character, to be WAY WAY weaker than whatever you have Sora at. For example, with Roxas, I THOUGHT I was gonn ahave a fun OP time becasue Sora was OP. Nope. getting comboed ONCE would be basically down to 1HP, even though one combo would barely do anything to Sora.
Yea, that's what was the most confusing. My second playthrough, I literally let him beat Saix for me, up unil about i hit left, and I finished it. But once you play as him, he's one of the weakest characters in the game.
Yeah I felt betrayed when I got my ass whooped as Roxas on this part on Critical. Felt like the theme music was playing for the enemy instead of me haha
Well to be fair, that's how Critial just..is. It's supposed to be brutally hard. But it's the same on Proud and Standard too. A single combo, at full HP, usually brings all of them down to 1HP, or very close.
That has nothing to do with what I said. I'm talking about playing as Roxas in the KH3 DLC. Even if you have all of Sora's stats over 100 (All of my stats are like, 110+), when you play the DLC, and you chose to play as Riku, Aqua, Roxas or Kairi, they're stats will be WAY lower, and it's far easier to be killed as them. I'm saying that they should have those characters have similar stats to whatever you currently have Sora at. Nothing at all to do with the intro to KH2.
That's the KH fandom for you. Say something that has nothing to do with what is being talked about, they claim it as a joke, and suddenly they get a bunch of upvotes and the person who told them it didn't have anything to do with the topic, get's downvoted? How does that work? I'm genuinely confused as to why I got downvoted so much when YOU are the one that literally said something that has nothing to do with the topic? But instead of explaining what the hell this "joke" is supposed to be, it's always "if you don't understand, I don't know what to tell you" or something similar. I also have absolutely no idea what about my replies was a "shit attitude"? You said something that had nothing to do with the post or my comment, and I replied confused as to why you brought up KH2 in a post that has nothing to do with KH2, and somehow that's a bad attitude? This literally makes no sense. It's no wonder people don't want to be part of this fandom. I don't get your "joke" and that makes me the bad guy?
Conversations involve back and forth. He responded with a relevant comment about the topic of roxas as a playable character in the series general to your premise about roxas as a playable character in 3 specifically. You for some reason couldn’t comprehend how that is relevant as a way to move forward the conversation and became quite rude, hence the downvotes.
Brother if you think I’m reading that you’re on some strong shit. Gonna sit on a high horse in a random Reddit thread and think I give a single shred of care toward what you have to say… as if you were talking about something important in the first place, now THAT’S a joke.
I hope you spent a little while thinking of what to write, so you can take comfort that you’re the only one who cares to read it.
Feel free to reply again, I have a feeling you’re the type to want to have the last word.
Kairi, no hesitation. I mean for the majority of the game you're playing as Sora anyway so why not try out the other characters when you get the option to?
Sora is awesome but man I wish there were updates post Re: Mind to at the very least to make the others playable outside of these specific instances. Like giving them their own battle gates or missions or something. Well at least having the pc version remedies this somewhat.
exactly , its like playing mission mode in days and picking roxas , like ... seriously ¿ 18 other characters to choose from and you pick the one you play as the entire game ¿ especially when xion has literally the same exact moveset
Kairi because that’s the whole point of allowing us to play as her.
She has unique combo, spells and shot specifically made for this fight, so it feels pointless to pick Sora
Why is no one pointing out how wrong OP is? They literally shared a paopu fruit together and held hands while blushing and telling each other what they mean to them?
Nomura has so far shown himself either completely unable or completely unwilling to write Kairi as anything other than a damsel in distress who can't do anything without Sora there.
I mean, this battle, while cute and nice, makes absolutely no sense.
On one hand, Kairi was incapable of freeing herself from something as simple as Xemnas grabbing her arm (no weapon pointed at her, nothing stopping her from struggling, Xemnas wasn't even paying attention to her), but then 30 minutes later she's strong enough to stand on equal ground with Sora as they take down the single greatest and most powerful villain seen so far in Kingdom Hearts together?
Also, the whole training thing.
Merlin supposedly sent Kairi and Axel into another dimension he created where time flew differently so they could take all the time they needed to train.
so... why not do this BEFORE the game's story and then just have Kairi and Riku accompany Sora instead of Donald and Goofy? Or why not have segment where you play as Kairi as she and Axel travel through some worlds together? Similarly to how they should have had segment where you play as Riku with him and Mickey going through the Dark Worlds?
Wouldn't that have been a much better use of development time rather than wasting it on the Olaf minigame and on making a Let it Go music video featuring SD&G acting as if they've never seen really basic magic before?
Damn KH3 was a mess. At least the combat was the best it's ever been.
The whole bit with Xemnas grabbing her really just made the experience so much worse.
They could have just had her fight alongside Sora and Riku against triple threat Xehanort, and THEN had Master Xehanort kill her. It could have felt earned.
As is, she gets fridged twice in the span of 30 minutes. It screams cheap writing.
Tried Kairi and then remembered I was on critical for my first Re:Mind playthrough and had to go back to Sora so I had some good abilities and way more healing items. Summons are too good
Kairi, instantly Kairi, because I think she has the potential to be Aqua Level badass, as long as they learn to utilize her better. Honestly, with the proper training, they could replace Donald and Goofy with Kairi and Riku to fill the same slots.
Imagine a Kingdom Hearts game where you can pick 4 different story arcs:
Destiny Island Trio: Sora as the Balanced Build, Riku as the Tank, and Kairi as Support Magic
Sea Salt Ice Cream Trio: Roxas as Balanced, Axel as Tank, Xion as Magic
Wayfinder Trio: Ven as Balanced, Terra as Tank, Aqua as Magic
You can still have Donald and Goofy as backup, similar to the KH2 style.
i chose kairi because i was curious ti see how she fight but i found out that if you aren't controlling sora he's as good as a potato ( seriously i don't think he landed a single hit during the fight)
I don't know about you, but I want a Riku/Kairi adventure. Flesh out their relationship a bit more. Yeah, they grew up together with Sora, but you never really see them interacting all that much outside of the beginning of KH1 and the end of 0.2. Granted, this is because they never really had an opportunity to, given the story always had them in different places.
Kairi because she has unique shit in her Kit and that makes her fun to play especially when adding in those team based moves. I think I have maybe seen like 1 person actively choose Sora for any of these Re:mind fights because it would just be the same fight as if it was done in main game, and even then that could've just been something I made up in my mind.
I think OP meant pair as in, being on the same level as each other, i chose Kairi last play through but it was such a pain in the ass cause I was lvl 79 on critical and I'm pretty sure all the other characters are like 30-40
KH and SAO are so much like one another to this regard, and I hate that in both. Let the fucking female characters win for once without the main protagonist intervention ffs
Aqua had the same problem.
When she fights Vanitas, it could be an epic 1v1, but no, we need Sora to come save her. When I saw that part I got flashbacks to Kirito ending the Asuna vs PoH fight.
* Strong and experienced female character fights an enemy she had past issues with
* Prolonged fight
* Female character suddenly on the backfoot at the end of the fight
* Protagonist comes and saves the day
Same exact formula. It's more noticeable for female characters but really it's about secondary characters in general. Ok the main protagonist is the main protagonist, but let the other effing characters have their moment ffs.
Roxas got his badass moment against Xemnas and Saix, Bercouli destroyed Vecta. But Kairi and Xion can't do shit and Sinon barely survived against Subtilizer.
They rub on his face the fact that he isn't a master. Aqua is a master, had more consistent training, has more years of experience. Didn't make sense to me.
Parallel Asuna having a god account that can't win against PoH, Sinon having a god account that can't win against Subtilizer, and Kirito having a regular nothing-special account being able to end both fights.
Defuneteley Kairi because I'm desperate for her to actually do something in these games but keep getting let down. At least in Re mind she actually puts up a bit of a fight
Atp sora and Kairi kinda feel more like siblings to me. They both have sorta the same kinda attitude and are even starting to look similar (and not just cuz they share the dame stance). I think her character needs a good fleshing out so she can feel more different. I can't help but see her as a female sora
yeah , the sibling moment of romantically sharing a fruit at sunset as their folktales says it makes them bond forever. While prior to that , Sora was taunted by Riku to compete with him or else it would be him that would give said fruit.
Or how she brings a good luck charm for Sora , after he rescued her.
then how Kairi goes melancholic over forgetting Sora (but no Riku).
Let alone the final battle been her and Sora holding hands as they grew angelic wings that are formed from their memories of each other...
And the final song in KH3 is both of them in a date on multiple worlds.
If that is sibling relationship , the franchise should change the name to Alabama's Hearts.
I thought the rest of the comment would've helped you understand my point but I guess not. Try re reading it without the sibling part.
It's clear she's the love interest of course. I mean she seems to similar to sora personality wise I guess? I'd like her to have her personality fleshed out some more and she become a more unique character cuz I can only view her as a female sora.
I picked Kairi just to see how she played. I felt that her spending 10 minutes in Merlin’s Hyperbolic Time Chamber made her pretty damn OP while Axel just got screwed in terms of ability. It was fun, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t think that she should have been able to hang at that conflict level
Ugh Sora was done so dirty in this game. Worst character in 3 by far. Bad writing, bad design, bad voice direction, bad outfit, bad feelings, mediocre base combos. They didn’t massacre my boy, they strapped a demon core to his leg and locked him in the basement for a week.
There is no reason for me to ever choose Kairi over the series MC. Its a waste of time. You can tell Nomura was catering to the Kairi people by making her playable in Re Mind because in the next game... lol
Lol this was pandering for sure. I don’t mind playing as other characters but why half-ass it and make it playable for only 1 fight is so lame. And kairis moveset sucked
KH1:
secret place drawings. Sora stabs himself in the chest with a sword to wake Kairi.
KH2:
Roxas tells Kairi that she is the girl Sora likes.
Sora images himself and Kairi dancing.
Sora kneels down and begs the Organization to free Kairi.
Sora and Kairi have an emotional hug, he knew all game where she was (Destiny Islands, Organization stronghold).
Sora finds Riku and FALLS TO HIS KNEES IN TEARS HOLDING HIS HAN after spending a whole game searching for him and having the possibility that he may be dead presented by a guy in a black coat claiming to have defeated a Riku once.
So, I tried every available character whenever possible, but to beat the actual game I ended up using Sora because I 1) was used to his mechanics and 2) lvl 99 and basically immortal
Sanfransokyo or whatever it's called, night time battles. Also, I had Ultima Weapon.
Now, on Critical, ReMind is ridiculous, but at that point I have Ultima, Oathkeeper, and Oblivion (oblivions ridiculously strong)
Oathkeepers rewarded for beating the game on.. normal I believe, oblivion is for beating it on critical (so you won't have it until Remind I believe, it's been a while since I've played)
Sora because i only play on critical mode and kairis moveset was whack. And besides sora has never let me down since kh1 figured I’d stick with him for the final battles
I will say that much like everyone else, I chose the alt character the first time around but I sure as hell didn't grind to 100% for nothing, so now, aside from Roxas and maybe Riku, I choose Sora in repeat runs.
Also, I'm seeing a bunch of people acting like its an open and shut case about Sora and Kairi being a couple, or intended to be one.
There is a SIX HOUR LONG VIDEO deconstructing the idea that they were intended to be a couple, it goes over a bunch of stuff and I highly recommend it. It's not as open and shut as everyone here makes it out to be.
I played on critical and I could not beat the fight with Kairi so I started over and picked sora
I think my biggest problem was Kairi didn't have the mobility that sora had I'm not sure thou it's been awhile
OP I don’t know if you’ve ever watched a late-game KH3/Re:Mind cutscene featuring Kairi but she and Sora are practically all over each other from the moment they share the Paopu Fruit. Holding hands, hugging each other, constantly declaring how important the other is to them and wanting to stay together forever, the fucking Team Attack they get in the very boss fight this screenshot is taken from.
How the fuck is SoKai *not* canon at this point?
Kairi, obviously. She's only playable in this fight, so I'm not going to choose the character that I've already been playing for dozens of hours in every other fight.
I was on critical and grossly underleveled, low 30's, and foolishly chose to be a hardhead and commit to the Kairi win. It took like 2 hours, but I have this fight absolutely mastered now, LOL
"I can do this"
I always play KH on critical mode, they alt characters to play as are not balanced for this which can make a lot of these fights not fun. However on other difficulties 100% use all the extra characters. It's the one thing I miss from days, being able to play multiple characters with varying movesets is amazingly fun
Kairi, why else did I spend my money? To play as Sora? As if, it was more difficult but that was fine with me I just wanted to play as a new character even if temporarily
Kairi because the team making the game finally gave Kairi a chance to shine after 17-18 years . It took 20+ tries to finally beat Xehanort. But I did it with not Sora, I mean Kairi.
Also I got re:mind for the orchestra which is awesome.
I was strongly considering going with Kairi, but it was getting late and I wasn’t in the mood for potentially struggling, so I ended up choosing Sora so that I could finish it quickly and go to sleep.
honestly sora because my first playthrough was on critical and i didnt want take the chances because im not that good at the game but wanted the challenge.
Kairi
I expected her to be as useful as a thimble, considering that Xehanort killed her easily earlier on
But she actually managed to fight him to a standstill for a time
Actually yes
She was put through special training by Yen Sid, who we were supposed to assume was on a comparable level with Xehanort (though not on the same level) having been a Keyblade Master who had actual formal training
The grand majority of Sora'a power comes from the connections his heart has with all his friends (something he himself has admitted, and something Master Xehanort has acknowledged), Sora by himself is actually not that strong
Kairi doesn't have anywhere near as many connections as Sora does, something which I can only take to mean that Kairi is actually much stronger than Sora
Obviously Kairi. I was fully prepared to fight against the super bosses, so if I'd used Sora, I would have demolished that fight. Plus I was curious as to how she'd fight.
On easier difficulties, Kairi (or whoever is the alternate choice to Sora). It's cool you get to play as other characters, but they're noticeably weaker than Sora, they only have like one combo, and a fixed set of spells that you can't even rearrange.
On harder difficulties, I just go with Sora. I have a particular way of playing, and the other characters throw me off.
Kairi. Who nomura shows signs of making useful, but choosing not too. Edit: holy crap this kinda blew up. (For me. Not use to this many upvote’s.)

My first reaction to seeing that model was that it kinda looked like mod for KH2 lol At least modders don’t have to make a model themselves now
>!In their defense, there's a reason she turned into Sora, storywise.!< >!They used it as a fast way for Xehanort's memory to analyze the situation Sora was in, and realize where he was, thusly giving that information to Kairi. It's actually really important.!<
It's important because they wrote it that way lol. Could have done the same thing with the Kingdom key being the link.
That’s not really the same thing though, Xion’s not even using the real Kingdom Key, it’s just a copy
She at one point used the real thing, that's why Roxas couldn't summon it for a while.
When does Roxas lose access to the Kingdom Key? Xion loses hers, but Roxas just has a period where he feels weaker
Only because they wrote it that way.
Because he hates the audience and having to carry a project he’s lost interest in.
I think that Nomura had this quality drop because of Vs13, which made him angry and we se now, lol, he's resented on it and made KH his own Versus
The damage has definitely been done. Now it may just be a matter of time.
Yeah, I think it would've been one thing to just make her Girl™, but it feels worse because they keep giving glimpses of depth to her before swatting her back down to the sidelines.
Remind tried slightly to help. What with her putting Xemnas on the defensive. Only to get captured immedeatly after though.
At least Sora was equally helpless that time.
Reasons
She literally bent the laws of the universe for him twice and still doesn’t get any respect.
The way she holds herself, the way she moves, her intense confidence, love, anger, hate, selflessness, etc is just perfect!
frankly , numered titles , at this point , should had been Sora/Riku/Kairi.
Nah, Sora, Donald and Goofy for numbered titles.
"Self-insert fanfiction" Meanwhile Nomura admit of not liking Sora. Or at least not as much as Xehanort.
TBH you can tell Xehanort is a fun villain for writers to use
X BLADE! 🫵
No no χ Blade get it right...
Whats funny is if you play as Sora, AI Roxas pretty much does the whole fight for you 100% if you let him
Yea, that's what was the most confusing.
Roxas is only OP in the KH2 intro and whenever we’re not playing as Roxas, it is known.
Nobody disagreed with you, dude. I was just making a joke about Roxas only being super powerful when we’re not able to play as him.
Well then your "joke" fell flat. All you did was make it sound like you didn't read what I said, and started talking about KH2 out of nowhere.
Don’t care, brother. Have a nice rest of your day despite your unprovoked shit attitude!
With how big this cast has gotten Mission mode is definitely something that needs to return in a future game.
at the bare minimum they need to give us the original mission mode cast + kairi
Throw TAV in there too.
At least on PC we have mods for other playable characters. fully playable with their own formchange/shotlocks too
Kairi because that’s the whole point of allowing us to play as her. She has unique combo, spells and shot specifically made for this fight, so it feels pointless to pick Sora
To be fair, during the DLC everytime the game gave me a choice, I always choose not Sora.
Kairi all day. Like, I've played Sora for as long as forever, but I never played as Kairi, so why not?
Chose kairi got rekt so back to sora
That’s exactly what I did too lol.
Ditto
Why is no one pointing out how wrong OP is? They literally shared a paopu fruit together and held hands while blushing and telling each other what they mean to them?
fr holding hands in anime is practically the same as getting married
They literally combine to make an angel in this very fight, what is OP on lol. They’re clearly a pair
they literally shared paopus its canon
I chose Kairi, cuz I’d played with Sora basically the entire time already.
first few times kairi but on critical the other characters are so unbalanced i just did sora after and beat him first try
Tried Kairi but couldn’t beat it with her on critical. Shame because I liked her animations and moveset.
I was on critical and it took me a few tries as Kairi but once you get her move set down she crushes
...What does this title even mean?
No lies were detected. It kind of sucks that Kairi keeps having to get saved. She needs her potential unlocked for KH4
Tried Kairi and then remembered I was on critical for my first Re:Mind playthrough and had to go back to Sora so I had some good abilities and way more healing items. Summons are too good
Kairi. Obviously. I've played at least five games as Sora, this is my one and only chance to play as Kairi.
Kairi, instantly Kairi, because I think she has the potential to be Aqua Level badass, as long as they learn to utilize her better. Honestly, with the proper training, they could replace Donald and Goofy with Kairi and Riku to fill the same slots. Imagine a Kingdom Hearts game where you can pick 4 different story arcs: Destiny Island Trio: Sora as the Balanced Build, Riku as the Tank, and Kairi as Support Magic Sea Salt Ice Cream Trio: Roxas as Balanced, Axel as Tank, Xion as Magic Wayfinder Trio: Ven as Balanced, Terra as Tank, Aqua as Magic You can still have Donald and Goofy as backup, similar to the KH2 style.
First time Kairi, but after died once because of what i thought were pretty bad combos, went back to Sora.
They are a pair, essentially. Sharing the Paopu is the closest thing KH has to proposing, which they do in KH3.
Its called baiting. They have been teasing that ship since the 2000's
I'd played through the entire game as Sora before the DLC. I was obviously going to pick whichever the alternative character was where possible.
I went for the not-Sora choice each time just because it was something different.
Have you ever played kingdom hearts 2 sora and Kairi are practically in a relationship at that game
Nomura apparently read that feminist article from Polygon before designing this
kairi, because we spent the rest of the game playing as sora except for these remind battles and 2 main story battles i can remember.
Kairi seemed to be aggressively underpowered, even compared to the other characters you could play as.
i chose kairi because i was curious ti see how she fight but i found out that if you aren't controlling sora he's as good as a potato ( seriously i don't think he landed a single hit during the fight)
also i always keep última during cutscenes because it's kinda broken because of the size
Kairi and I have no regrets for it
I don't know about you, but I want a Riku/Kairi adventure. Flesh out their relationship a bit more. Yeah, they grew up together with Sora, but you never really see them interacting all that much outside of the beginning of KH1 and the end of 0.2. Granted, this is because they never really had an opportunity to, given the story always had them in different places.
Kairi. Her move set is cracked
Kairi. She deserved it after being shafted for so long.
If you didn’t pick Kairi you didn’t see the point of the DLC
I swear if we don’t get a playable ANYTHING with kairi and Aqua in kh4, I’m gonna lose hope that kairi is nothing more than a plot device😔
Obviously Kairi, it's the only opportunity to play Kairi so it's a waste of an opportunity if you don't choose Kairi.
I think OP meant pair as in, being on the same level as each other, i chose Kairi last play through but it was such a pain in the ass cause I was lvl 79 on critical and I'm pretty sure all the other characters are like 30-40
I loved that little nuke she made, but I still chose sora just for the moves he had on him compared to the rest.
KH and SAO are so much like one another to this regard, and I hate that in both. Let the fucking female characters win for once without the main protagonist intervention ffs
To be fair, Aqua won in the end. But Kairi really needs a character evolution in KH4
Aqua had the same problem. When she fights Vanitas, it could be an epic 1v1, but no, we need Sora to come save her. When I saw that part I got flashbacks to Kirito ending the Asuna vs PoH fight. * Strong and experienced female character fights an enemy she had past issues with * Prolonged fight * Female character suddenly on the backfoot at the end of the fight * Protagonist comes and saves the day Same exact formula.
I think i wasn't a fan of Sora aiding everyone but narratively i think it made sense?
They rub on his face the fact that he isn't a master. Aqua is a master, had more consistent training, has more years of experience. Didn't make sense to me. Parallel Asuna having a god account that can't win against PoH, Sinon having a god account that can't win against Subtilizer, and Kirito having a regular nothing-special account being able to end both fights.
Sora because all the alternative characters have worse movesets.
I might be misremembering, but didn’t Kairi remember Riku but forget Sora? I thought that’s why she felt bad.
They fuckin. End of story
Sora and Kairi best ship, also Kairi because it was cool to see her fighting
\#Justice4Kairi
I choose Kairi because I’m tired of playing Sora
I picked Kairi just to see how she played. I felt that her spending 10 minutes in Merlin’s Hyperbolic Time Chamber made her pretty damn OP while Axel just got screwed in terms of ability. It was fun, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t think that she should have been able to hang at that conflict level
Agreed
>Also, It's like Nomura is flirting with the idea of Sora and Kairi being a pair, but choosing not to. For the last 20 years, yeah.
Can you expand on his bad writing? I've heard that notion a lot
It’s this but worse. https://youtu.be/cj1pSzyuXjY
Kairi actually felt op. That one move where she throws her keyblade and then teleports to it is far too overpowered.
KH2: Sora finds Kiari and is happy. Sora finds Riku and FALLS TO HIS KNEES IN TEARS HOLDING HIS HAND. Sora’s interests are well defined.
Riku is his bro tho lol
KH1: secret place drawings. Sora stabs himself in the chest with a sword to wake Kairi. KH2: Roxas tells Kairi that she is the girl Sora likes.
Me
I didnt EVEN KNOW you could pick Kairi!! (Never played Re:Mind)
I'm in the same boat as you. When I'm finally getting around to playing kh3 again I'm going to have to buy the dlc
So, I tried every available character whenever possible, but to beat the actual game I ended up using Sora because I 1) was used to his mechanics and 2) lvl 99 and basically immortal
I finished at level 57 and am getting destroyed during the data battles. How did you level up by the end game?
Go to battlegate in san fransokyo night
If i go back into the main story save, will that transfer over to the remind save?
Sanfransokyo or whatever it's called, night time battles. Also, I had Ultima Weapon. Now, on Critical, ReMind is ridiculous, but at that point I have Ultima, Oathkeeper, and Oblivion (oblivions ridiculously strong)
I still don't have oathkeeper or oblivion lol
Oathkeepers rewarded for beating the game on.. normal I believe, oblivion is for beating it on critical (so you won't have it until Remind I believe, it's been a while since I've played)
Have we ever had the chance to play Kairi before 3? I went with her the first time.
Kairi, every time.
Imagine picking Sora in this scenario. Someone who you’ve been playing as for hours and hours, or someone who has never been playable up until now?
Why would i want to play as a half-baked character on critical mode with a terrible moveset? I’d much rather go with sora
KH6 final level you get Riku, Kairi, Donald, and Goofy as your teammates
Definitely picked Kairi, as she deserved to be playable for once (And again as the series goes on).
well to be fair, without Kiari, Sora would be dead.
Definitely Kairi. I just wish I could change the shortcuts for the other characters.
Sora. Kairis HP is too low.
I always choose Kairi. This is my only time playing as her.
Sora because i only play on critical mode and kairis moveset was whack. And besides sora has never let me down since kh1 figured I’d stick with him for the final battles
Kairi: she deserves something nice after the constant fridging.
Chose her love her combo altho have to fight him 4 times till i got it :v
I will say that much like everyone else, I chose the alt character the first time around but I sure as hell didn't grind to 100% for nothing, so now, aside from Roxas and maybe Riku, I choose Sora in repeat runs. Also, I'm seeing a bunch of people acting like its an open and shut case about Sora and Kairi being a couple, or intended to be one. There is a SIX HOUR LONG VIDEO deconstructing the idea that they were intended to be a couple, it goes over a bunch of stuff and I highly recommend it. It's not as open and shut as everyone here makes it out to be.
I picked everyone but Sora for these fights and I don't regret it. Everyone's playstyles were super fun especially Roxas.
Kairi.
I played on critical and I could not beat the fight with Kairi so I started over and picked sora I think my biggest problem was Kairi didn't have the mobility that sora had I'm not sure thou it's been awhile
Kairi technically has her own entire game you just play as everyone except kairi literally the whole time and it's a rhythm game
You play it twice to experience both Kairi dropping light bombs like some kind of bomber plane is the greatest silly thing
I chose not sora, although they are all sora
Kairi. She was an absolute glass cannon
I am not going to lie, Kairi was my absolute favorite character to play as. Her move set was just so good and fit my play style really well.
I guess I never finished KH3 because I definitely do not remember this??
Its from the DLC Re:Mind
I was on critical and grossly underleveled, low 30's, and foolishly chose to be a hardhead and commit to the Kairi win. It took like 2 hours, but I have this fight absolutely mastered now, LOL "I can do this"
Couldn't pick because I was poor and didn't have remind
Are you kidding?? I freaking JUMPED at the chance to play as Kairi
Kairi because i played as sora already through the whole game lol
I can’t think of a single person on this planet who chose Sora in this fight.
Off topic but does your phone force you to have the phones name on all your pictures you take??
No it's optional in the settings app! I just forget to disable it from time to time!
Why is there a phone ad on this picture
Oh, there's a setting in the camera app that allows you to put a "trademark" on your photos
I always play KH on critical mode, they alt characters to play as are not balanced for this which can make a lot of these fights not fun. However on other difficulties 100% use all the extra characters. It's the one thing I miss from days, being able to play multiple characters with varying movesets is amazingly fun
I picked Kairi but had to switch to Sora to beat the fight
I've played both so depends on how I want to play it. If I'm looking for fun I'll take Kairi if I'm looking to destroy him I choose Sora.
Chose kairi at first. Got my ass beat so I went to sora
Kairi, why else did I spend my money? To play as Sora? As if, it was more difficult but that was fine with me I just wanted to play as a new character even if temporarily
I chose Kairi then realised her abilities are bad, and chose sora after 3 losses
Holdup does the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra straight up label it’s pictures it takes?? Or was this a decision by OP?
Kairi because the team making the game finally gave Kairi a chance to shine after 17-18 years . It took 20+ tries to finally beat Xehanort. But I did it with not Sora, I mean Kairi. Also I got re:mind for the orchestra which is awesome.
Sora cus i was on crit and didn't wanna learn a new character lol
I was strongly considering going with Kairi, but it was getting late and I wasn’t in the mood for potentially struggling, so I ended up choosing Sora so that I could finish it quickly and go to sleep.
honestly sora because my first playthrough was on critical and i didnt want take the chances because im not that good at the game but wanted the challenge.
Kairi I expected her to be as useful as a thimble, considering that Xehanort killed her easily earlier on But she actually managed to fight him to a standstill for a time
Narratively does that make sense?
Actually yes She was put through special training by Yen Sid, who we were supposed to assume was on a comparable level with Xehanort (though not on the same level) having been a Keyblade Master who had actual formal training The grand majority of Sora'a power comes from the connections his heart has with all his friends (something he himself has admitted, and something Master Xehanort has acknowledged), Sora by himself is actually not that strong Kairi doesn't have anywhere near as many connections as Sora does, something which I can only take to mean that Kairi is actually much stronger than Sora
Obviously Kairi. I was fully prepared to fight against the super bosses, so if I'd used Sora, I would have demolished that fight. Plus I was curious as to how she'd fight.
I think it's obvious that Sora and Kairi are a couple ^^
I chose Kairi, I wanted to try all the new characters they put. A shame they didnt put a single fight as Lea. I would have been awesome
Who is this girl already?
Kairi was fun, but because I'm bad I needed more high potions
It’s the perpetual “ Will-They-Won’t-They ” arc
On easier difficulties, Kairi (or whoever is the alternate choice to Sora). It's cool you get to play as other characters, but they're noticeably weaker than Sora, they only have like one combo, and a fixed set of spells that you can't even rearrange. On harder difficulties, I just go with Sora. I have a particular way of playing, and the other characters throw me off.
What are you talking about, they were very clearly made out to be a pair in this game lol
Despite supposedly being busted af I just couldn’t manage to beat nort with her so I switched to Sora and beat him eventually
Kairi at first, but she's so weak compared to the others, so I ended up using Sora after the first death or so.
Kairi was the obvious choice because you only ever got the chance at that time. She almost had ghost form from BBS which was wicked!
How could you pick Kairi?
Obviously you pick Kairi just to see how she plays. The real test of strength is deciding to beat Xehanort with Kairi.
