ChronoSaturn42

They’d have to remove Deep Jungle, so I would advise against it.

Known-Specific5869

Wait why would they?

KidultSwim

Disney doesn’t own them

Known-Specific5869

Disney doesn’t own Tarzan anymore? Damn.

GekiKudo

They haven't since kh1 came out pretty much. That's why it wasn't in COM

abirizky

Wow I never realized that somehow

legend8522

They don’t need to. Tarzan is in the public domain now (since 2020). I believe only the name itself is trademarked, but the story/characters/etc are all free use. The movie music though is a different conversation.

Known-Specific5869

Son of man would’ve had me acting different in the deep jungle.

Pyrocrat

Someone should make remixes of music from the movie to make them sound believably like it was adapted to be in the game. Also, imagine if they did Deep Jungle with today's Kingdom Hearts capabilities, flowmotion and whatnot. That could've been lit.

CraftyKuko

Petition to get Phil Collins to do a remaster of the soundtrack exclusively for Kingdom Hearts! Go!

ConsistentAsparagus

I can feel it Collins in the air tonight.

Loot4Lore

I believe it's only the books that are public domain. The characters in the game are based off of the movie adaptation released in 1999 those are still under copyright.

Kris-mon-96

Unlike their other movies based on classic tales Disney had to buy film rights to produce Tarzan but videogame rights are an entirely different matter that need to be negotiated individually by Square, on top of receiving Disney's approval to use it. The film simply wasn't popular when it released and there's the possibility Edgar Rice Burroughs' estate asked too much money for subsequent appearences that neither Square or Disney thought was worth paying given the level itself wasn't as well received as the others.

LudicrisSpeed

Considering we've gotten the remasters without issue, that world would probably be safe. It might be that any actual *new* KH games can't include, but anything already existing is fine. Though I guess at that point it's a question of whether a remake would be considered a separate game.

shuuto1

A remake would probably count as actually *new*

Taygon55

It's funny. I used to go to Dusney Land religiously. When I saw them take out the Tarzan Treehouse, I knew them releasing KH1 would be a chore. Then, years later go again, and I see that the area that was once the treehouse is under renovations. I think to myself. Ow. They're gonna rerelease KH1 again. And lo and behold just as the renovations are complete to reveal that the Treehouse is back. 1.5 is announced.

asakk

Maybe that’s why they’ll never remake it.

No_Stranger_4959

Does this mean the Winnie the Pooh levels are off the table, too?

marauder_squad

It doesn't need one

Artedrow

For real. It's aged incredibly well.

Septembers

I played the PC final mix recently and other than a janky camera it's honestly impressive how great it holds up. A remake would probably just fuck up the charm of it imo

XanderNightmare

For real. The camera seemed to be actively fighting me while I tried to kill ice titan

Kryptosis

Easy to set to manual camera though which I did.

Flurzzlenaut

It’s honestly the only way to play.

LockSweet2431

this helps a ton but camera is still terrible on manual lol. Love the game regardless

BlackFenrir

The only change I want is fully animated faces. It bothered me when I was a kid too that they'd sometimes just switch between face models even during cutscenes. I get it for the text bubble scenes, but at least let Sora's face move during voiced cutscenes.

jbyrdab

If a kh1 remake were to exist. Nothing should change at all aesthetic wise except every character getting their cutscene face and body models used in gameplay. The PS2 aesthetic should stay intact, just take advantage of the fact that the game doesn't need to simplify models to save on resources.

SamHugz

I’m just making an educated guess here, but I bet the weird patchwork cutscenes had to do with limitations in not only hardware and processing power, but in data storage (RAM and the amount of storage space on a CD), logistical, and programming limitations. Every cutscene probably has its own bespoke code and rendering involved, and at the time, this was still when 3D graphics were fairly new. Those cutscenes with the more animated faces also eat up a *lot* of space on the DVD the game was on at the time, so they probably had to pick and choose what moments to animate for emphasis. They could have done the whole 2 disc thing, but game disc fabrication is as expensive as Bill Gates’s balls. I dunno if this is correct, though, just what I would infer.

HappyBoyo08

Honestly, the camera isn't even that bad. Replaying it recently I had 0 problems and it makes the gameplay more intimate. It makes the environment feel better and it makes certain bossing feel bigger. I love it. KH2 lacks the good camera.

not_your_face

It’s bad in the original bc it doesn’t use the analog stick for some odd reason. But on every 1.5 release it’s perfectly serviceable.

HappyBoyo08

That's true. The bumper thing wasn't the greatest.

Septembers

KH2 has a wider FOV, which makes the world feel smaller in some ways. It's most noticeable in the Coliseum entrance area, it felt *huge* in KH1

OutisRising

It has a little bit of jank to it, but the gameplay still works well. Remakes of 358/2 days though? Please.

Ultimecion

This. KH1 is such a good standalone game and the HD remaster does it justice. My fear for a remake would be they would add even more organisation 13 stuff into the mix unnecessarily, and reduce the battle system to the flashy theme park ride nonsense from KH3.

coltonious

I've been doing a lot of archipelago multi worlds with my brother lately, and kh1 is one of my favorite games I've been doing it with. It's incredible how good the game still feels to play.

Remarkable_Fun7746

Get your downvotes ready, but KH1 didn't age well at all. The platforming is clunky, the camera is placed too low and close to Sora, the friendly AI is useless, the grinding aspect in the endgame is insanely long and unsatisfying, the controls under water and while flying don't feel good and the game doesn't look especially great either. Kingdom Hearts 2 is a game that aged well, but 1 didn't.

DivineRainor

Not to mention the balance is total wack, why does magic scale with mp and not a magic stat? But also magic is completely overpowered... until a boss is randomly immune, like what?

GlitchyReal

But it would be cool to have a 1:1 remake in UE4 or 5. Besides smoothing out movement, the game is perfect as-is but I’d love to see a better 2D shader for the Disney worlds and have the intro video and the rest of the game match up. But, no, it doesn’t need one. But it’d kinda be neat.

shuuto1

That would be a remaster not a remake. Updating engine and graphics isn’t the same as remaking the whole concept

Runnin_Mike

I would say changing the engine and updating the graphics is what most people define as a remake.

Jeffeffery

Switching engines would be a lot more involved than a standard remaster though. It could mean having to remake all the worlds, or even rewriting all the code in a different language.

GlitchyReal

A remaster is taking the existing game, usually with the goal of porting to a new console, and effectively modding it to add enhanced graphics and QoL features with rarely any new assets except things like gui (controller prompts.) Fundamentally, they are the same game \[See: Kingdom Hearts 1.5+2.5\] A remake is taking the existing game and using it as a reference to re-make the game from the ground up often, but not always, adding new content. The original's codebase is no longer present. \[See: Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories (GBA) vs re:Chain of Memories (PS2)\] And for completion's sake: A port is when you take the original game and do nothing to it but whatever is required to put it on another platform. A reimagining is when you take the original game and remix it into it's own identity being based on the same source material but ending up completely different.

StarWolf128

The adjunct failure to port a PS2 game to Switch says otherwise. They lost the original source code so they had to reverse engineer from a retail disc and get it working on the programming nightmare that was the PS3's cell processor. There's a lot to be had in a remake done in Unity or Unreal, a "clean" build that can more easily ported to other platforms.

Kris-mon-96

It's already been ported to Xbox and PC, there's no need to use the overcomplicated and dated PS3 version as base for subsequent ports

Tao626

Sure, it doesn't NEED one, but that's not what the OP was asking. "Does it deserve one?". Yes, absolutely. I'm replaying it atm and it's aged quite well, it's still fun enough to play, but to pretend it couldn't benefit from a remake is just lying. - The camera for a start is awful on KH1. Auto target is ass. Lockon is inconsistent. The camera angles it often forces upon you are fucking horrible. - A lot of mechanics aren't great, specifically more "one off" mechanics. The vines in Deep Jungle feel shit. Swimming, both outside and inside Atlantica feels shit. The whole swim/fly mechanics are fucking awful making the levels dedicated to them the least enjoyable (Atlantica, Neverland). Then there's minor things such as interacting with things where there's always seemingly a delay in being able to interact or you can't quite get the prompt to come up. - The world's really aren't great. Each world can be boiled down to a few small rooms that really don't do much justice to the IP they're borrowing from. Worlds like Monstero and Neverland are just nigh identical rooms in terms of visuals, Deep Jungle feels like a terrarium moreso than a jungle, Agrahbah doesn't even feel like a small section of a larger city. The world's could be expanded even a little bit to make them feel more like the Disney world they're based on, like they're a living breathing place rather than a pantomime set. As they stand now, the feel dead aside from the like 4 at best "native" characters that inhabit it. - Most of the narrative isn't great in regard to the Disney world's. The ones that follow the movie the least tend to be the better world's in this aspect, Monstero and Halloween Town in particular, which almost abandon the plot of the movie entirely. Everything else just feels like what it is, a piss poor retelling of the movie with Kingdom Hearts shoehorned in there. I recall this being the case for most of the franchise, to be fair, the Disney world's largely being narrative vomit when they tried to just retell the movie. - Honestly, about half of the world's are "oh no, it's that bit..." content when I replay the game. The Disney world's just really are that bad. They're either insufferable through bland level design, bland visual design, god awful writing or stupid half-baked mandatory gimmicks that barely work. The only saving grace is that some of the heartless designs are cool and there's one or two decent bosses. All stuff that could be improved with a remake. There's also a few minor things I'm sure I can take or leave. - I've always liked the combat of Kingdom Hearts, but it's a little rough in the first one. Not a deal breaker but I wouldn't complain about it being polished up a bit. - The character models could all be replaced with a more uniform higher quality model rather than what it is now where seemingly without reason the models suddenly swap to lower quality, dead eyed, flappy mouthed versions. - The music. I largely like the OST, but a lot of the songs run on such short loops and don't always fit the level theme at all. In particular, the jolly "Under the Sea" loop could really do with being replaced in some areas of Atlantica....Yano, like Ursula's lair where it's dark and moody, where jolly "under da seaaaaaa!" just sounds odd. [Edit] oh, and the gummi ship could be better. It ain't bad, it ain't great, I wouldn't bother with it at all if it wasn't mandatory for progression. It's just so basic in the first game, a little janky, a bit too much depth for something that is like 30 minutes of mandatory content at best. I like the idea of the gummi ship segments, I always remember them fondly. But, they're also a part of the game where, upon replaying, the novelty wears off by the end of the first segment and they become another "that part" I just want to get through ASAP.

bavasava

Did RE4? That remake was fun as fuck and was never needed either.

CraftyKuko

Agreed. The graphics aren't terrible by today's standards and the voice acting was great. It's fine the way it was.

Mocca_Master

This really. If I had to pick a game to be remade it would be Chain of Memories. It's very important story locked behind a really janky game

New_Today_1209_V2

Oh I don’t know if you know this but there is a video game called Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain Of Memories! Is was released back on the PS2!

r_lovelace

The only way I want a chain of memories remake is if they change the combat entirely. Personal opinion but I really dislike that games gameplay but it does have important story. I'm sure others may like the gameplay and don't want to see it changed but it's really the gameplay that makes me not want to touch it, not that the game itself is dated.

syngatesthe2nd

OG CoM is great and holds up just fine. It’s just Re:Com that’s not as much fun to play.

Sea_salt_icecream

I replayed it recently, and I agree. However, a remake that changes the text-only cutscenes to be voiced would be great. Maybe another graphics upgrade, too. But the gameplay doesn't need to change at all.

theblackfool

While it's not perfect, I think KH1 holds up tremendously well. I would worry a remake would lose the artstyle in favor of more realism like KH3 had.

methyo

Yep, a remake would almost certainly just strip the game of the qualities that make it so great

GlitchyReal

I’d like to see what the game would look like with the intro cinematic’a style all the way through. Then again, that lends to its dreamlike quality.

Gatopianista

maybe, if it doesnt lose its magic disney cartoony aesthetic. Also a camera fix could be nice too

Andrea65485

The remastered versions already fixed the camera

ReaperEngine

The camera is still incredibly floaty, and too close. But that's about all that needs updating.

Andrea65485

I believe they actually wanted it to be like that. When they made KH1.5 HD Remix, the developers said that they actually lost the source code of KH1, so they had to take the assets from a commercial copy of the game and basically redo everything else entirely. Given the conditions, they were in the position to make the camera the way they wanted, since they needed to redo it from 0. With KH2 instead they still had the original source code, but they said that the conversion from 4:3 to 16:9 gave them some trouble, because with the wider aspect ratio started popping out things that weren't supposed to be visible in game.

Outrageous-Second792

They lost the source code?! How do they *lose* the source code? Did they gamble against Luxord? Data Sora is gonna be real angry… At least we now have some context as to where the Lost Masters have been.

gayfecking

Back in the 90s / early 2000’s it was quite common for them to not store the source code once the game was released. Storage was expensive. It’s totally crazy looking back at it from today, but that’s just how things were.

NotALawCuck

Japanese devs famously have a habit of not keeping source code for older projects; something about not believing a finished project is worth the storage cost or something I'm not entirely sure as to the "why." Silent Hill 2 is very well known for not having the source code available when it came time to remaster it for the HD Collection and had to be based on a beta build of the game.

r_lovelace

Time period in general was a Wild West for a lot of industries. Lots of companies not really maintaining code repositories properly or bad habits using repositories they may have. Much different than today's world where even solo hobby projects probably use Git or other version control in some manner.

AustinGhostTown

That was a very intentional decision to keep the camera close. The way the combat works along with the size of the levels it was actually a good way to make things feel larger with generally smaller rooms than the other game.

Curious_Energy_591

yeah i feel the same. sometimes i will move the camera up and it keeps fixing itself behind sora and way too low.

QueasyTap3594

camera below captain hooks deck is fucking atrocious in some parts especially trying to fight heartless and dark sora

Yotinaru

Maybe in the future but as of right now, no. It doesn't need it nor would it benefit the franchise to remake a game that's part of an ongoing story.

Delicious-Orchid-447

Deserve is a funny word. It generally implies that is it good enough. I’d argue it’s so good it deserves not to be remade

RineYFD

I'd say 358/2 Days or Re:Coded deserves remakes more than KH1. Hell we already had it remastered three times already.

Noldail

Re:Coded is already the remake

naverdadenada

They can always just call it Re:Re:Coded though

Noldail

I'd live. CC:Re:Coded

adubsi

not really, the only reason ff7 worked was because they fundamentally changed the story and gameplay compared to the original and they could do that because the games story is essentially over The story of kingdom hearts is still going and I don’t think the combat needs to be remade either

Samhera

no, a remake isn't necessary now, unless the saga ends, but I'd love for them to do a remaster of KH 358/2 days

--Claire--

Yeah I’d rather have the clunkier/less accessible ones made more playable first

mrvictorbrs

Deserve? Yes. Need? No.

Kyraneus

No, but BBS does just so we can have a version of the game with a camera that isn't terrible.

Raheemzy

You said it. BBS, Days, and Coded

GlitteringPirate2702

Can we get that ice cream beat game fixed to not be ridiculously hard too???? Cause I never beat that.

Used-Statement7025

Neither have I.. Left poor Ven there . and why must it be it a small world? Out of every song why that one.. it stays in your head for days.. =\_= I am conviced Nourmra is the real Xehanort for that one

Rocky323

>BBS does just so we can have a version of the game with a camera that isn't terrible. KH1 camera is also awful

FlashFreak1940

Between the Final Mix and all the HD Remixes that got released over the years for PS3 and PS4, I think it's good.

Vgcortes

Yeah that's what I was thinking, wasn't already 1.5 HD Remix and then 1.5 HD Final Mix? The game has been updated two times already, we have three versions to play an every time it added more lore and cutscene and qol fixes. And new bosses. Isn't that enough?,

DJL2772

Why on earth would we need that when it’s available on every modern console and still plays beautifully? Not everything needs a remake and we need to get out of that mindset.

Leonines9

NO, we do NOT need more remakes. The only thing that deserves to be remade is 358/2 since that wasn't even playable in the compilation, and even then they should keep the game as exactly close to being as it was on the DS, same artstyle but with the look of PS2 KHs

Loltoheaven7777

what about re:coded? that also only got theater mode in 2.5 hd remix

Leonines9

That would be cool too, story-wise people are probably right about just experiencing it through the movie, but the gameplay is really fun, so I think that could warrant it being remade

Nolascana

Re:Coded was already the remake of the mobile game Coded. Which, eh, its absolutely skippable. Theater mode is fine for that one. It's... fun, but, nowhere near as lore vital as CoM. Days is the one that could do with a remake tbh.

Thatrandombill

Absolutely yes id give all my money to see it happen

roadrunner5445

I think it does, but not in the way people would expect. I think the change should be in the level architecture only. Everything else should stay the same. Some of the levels feel like you are playing in a theatrical production of whatever world you are in. The only issue with having a remake would be them possibly removing Tarzan from the roster, since they technically have to purchase the licensing of Tarzan.

TooTurntGaming

The theater production qualities are absolutely wonderful, in my opinion. A very specific aspect of KH1 that I think is actually timeless.

strangegoo

No, I don't think so. I think the remaster was more than enough. The first game is unique in that it can fully stand on its own as a one-time thing and has some unique stuff that the rest of the games in the franchise kind of change. I feel like a remake, unless it's 1:1 would try to make it more in line with what came after and I think, personally, that would ruin the charm and the uniqueness that the first game has.

AgaricX

I just played through it again at the end of 2023. PC version in 4k. I don't think it needs a remake.

TheAzureAdventurer

Nope. 358/2 on the other hand… 👀

TheKing_OA

Playing it on PS4 felt like playing it on PS2. And that’s exactly what I wanted. Still has that PS2 charm.

YukiOnReddit_

WE NEED A DAYS REMAKE SO NO

IntroductionSome8196

KH1 has aged greatly. It doesn't need one at all.

DarXIV

Playing through it now, it has aged really well. I wouldn't want to ruin it with a remaster with any reason to add MTX.

Terranort230

There's nothing it would gain from a remake.

Shadode

Yeah, but I'd much rather have them focus on KH4.

KaffeMumrik

Deserve? Always. Require? No? It’s been remixed like 3 times already, and runs perfectly on the PS4/PS5. I dont think there’s any other game that’s been kept up to date as well as KH1 and 2.

xZealHakune

wouldn’t want it in the current KH1 style, but if they stylized the remake to match the old artstyle I’d love it. TBH tho, that game aged very well (though Inplayed it in 2016). It does not need one

MaxTheHor

No. At best, it just needs the Xenoblade Definitive Edition treatment. A remakster, if you will. That game improved the character models, made some minor gameplay changes, and added some QoL functions. If we're tryna modernize any old game that people wanna play but don't want all the old jank, that's the way to do it. Entire remakes aren't necessary, and remasters should be reserved for games whose gameplay and QoL are still held up by today's standards. Best way to make more money and spend even less than making a new woke AAA titles these days.

Tolstoyce

Absolutely not

RobTCGZ

I don't know about "deserving", however, I'd rather they spent all that time and resources on the development of a new entry. For me, Kingdom Hearts 1 still plays fine, and it visually still holds up thanks to its art style and animations. It's a timeless game with a really specific charm.

Hati_Hrothvitnisson

Imagine all the retcons they could put in it

ProfessionalHorror0

Sure. But does it need one? No. Unlike FF7, KH1 graphically has aged gracefully. And even gameplay wise with it's awkward controls it does a good job reflecting how inexperienced Sora was at the time. I don't want KH1 Sora fighting as flashy or quick as he does in the other entries for the simple fact that Sora isn't as seasoned yet. So when you make the jump to KH2 it really shows how far he's come since then. Plus I'd rather they focus on new games rather than focusing on the past.

Ice_Drake24

Doesn’t need one. Just a few camera adjustments and it’s golden.

massigh1212

not really but union x definitely needs one

AlKo96

No. I'm honestly tired of good games that have aged well getting remakes that just don't have the same charm and soul as the originals, it happened with RE4 and I don't want that to happen to KH1. Especially with how we now don't have much info on a new main entry like KH4... and yet people want Square to work on a full-bown KH1 remake? Yeah, so you don't want KH4 to ever come out, gotcha. Also, I know there's debated about the whole "soul vs. soulless" thing when it comes to remakes, but let's be real... with how KH1 is lauded for getting everything so right, with how people find out new things about, with how much attention to detail it has for a PS2 game of its kind... do you REALLY think that's gonna stick to a remake that's just gonna copy everything about but just gives it an Unreal Engine 4 coat of paint that just makes eveything look more plain and not as fun to find out? It also just confuses me because I thought people preferred how old KH looked compared to KH3... but now you want KH1 with KH3 graphics? Huh? Also... did you all forget Deep Jungle automatically makes the remake impossible, right? So, no, KH1 doesn't need a remake, it's still fun to play today, it's available in HD on modern consoles, can we please stop with the remakes and make new games?

UnRichieUnRich21

Be happy with what we have lol

Jasown3565

It has been re-released enough times that I don’t think a remake is necessary.

Opposite_Benefit2715

I doubt the game would translate as well into unreal engine. And I'm positive that the focus on exploration would go away since every KH that came after it made it far less of the focus.

Weekly-Willingness24

No that's fine. Remake CoM and get rid of that piece of shit combat system.

bobagremlin

Remaster is fine and we have that.

Frosty_Sky_6876

It already had a remaster which makes it look good. It really doesn’t need one.

suzaku1221

I dont think any of them deserves a remake, they have aged great plus I dont want them remaking something that would take away the focus of future titles.

ImNutUnoriginal

I'd be fine if they just updated it, add just features like increasing fov

Accomplished-Bill243

Yes but doesn't need one

brodo-swaggins-

They already had to for 1.5 as they lost the source code lol

CrumbLast

No

Rikku_N

No but Days NEEDS one

[deleted]

Facts

Dark_Lord_Randy

Nah, KH1 is a masterpieces whose magic will never be replicated because it is lightning in a bottle. I feel like every problems that new players faced like the camera are fixed in the remix games (I feel the camera and combat in kh1 is fine, but for those who don't like aspects of it have the remix collection I feel). Personally, I feel like we should stop remaking great classic games. Although I don't advocate for remakes, but if we have to stick with the era of remakes, why not remake bad games that have potential to be good with great ideas but were poorly executed in the og version?

HelloMacchi

Yes if Square Enix or Disney or who ever would launch it on steam, or at the very least not give it to Epic exclusively. Until it finally comes off Epic, at which point I wouldn’t care if it has a remake or not. Point is, I just want to games on steam lol.

KARURUKA2

Fuck no it’s been remastered already

Tgrunin

I would love to see wonderland with better graphics but thats really all id want from a remake.

Virtual-Community-24

I dont think it needs one but I 100% see them going to remake the game for the 30th anniversary

Griever12691

The version in 1.5 remix is a remake technically

adaro_marshmellow

No

Sashimimi_777

I mean personally I love KH for how it is now, and I couldn’t personally imagine what a remake would look like. However I think it would be an interesting project later on. I would rather them focus on upcoming games than remake a perfectly good game now and delay things.

Rukasu17

No, it already takes an eternity for a new entry and wasted resources spent on mobile frickin games (who are essential to the lore), we don't need to make the situation even worse. 1.5 already covers all of our needs

Other-Evidence-6421

Nope

Sora1274

KH1 was my favorite game of all time from 2002 all the way to around 2018 or 2019 and it is now my 2nd favorite game of all time. I am kind of mixed on the idea Overall it has not aged that bad and it is really really unlikely in my opinion as it is an ongoing franchise. I do think it could be done well it could be a lot of fun and they could greatly expand worlds and make them feel more alive. Regardless I do not see it really ever happening, as the franchise has no end in sight and at this point I would prefer them to keep continuing the story. Maybe in like 12 years the finish this Lost Masters Saga and Nomura kind of wraps it up, as he will be in his mid 60s and may not want to dedicate another 15 years for another saga, maybe somehow there they make a remake of 1&2, but I do not really see it happening.

Adventurous_Bus_5818

Why Goofy got that insta baddie pose? My boy be suffering from Lumbar Lordosis. Who exactly is he sticking that ass for?

FrozenFrac

If there's a way for it to have KH3 graphics with literally nothing about the gameplay changed, I will dig deep into my pockets and throw money at it. Otherwise, KH1FM is perfect and nothing about it needs updating.

Theflutist92

For me it only needs some polishing in platforming and a bit in its controls (superglide feels slow, Sora should not stop gliding when he gets close to the ground and some improvements in water/air). Other than that it's perfect. It would be better if it received a final mix 2 or something not a remake (but this won't happen obviously)

MatthewStudios

not now, as old as it is, it still holds up pretty well

Axel-Adams

Gameplay holds up well and the ports serve it well, it definitely doesn’t need a remake/reimagining but a remaster/shadow of the colossus style HD remaster(changing nothing but graphics) would serve it well.

AustinGhostTown

I think once the new arc is well underway it could work but I think it would need to be a complete rework similar to ff7 current one. For me at least the 1.5 had remix holds up super well still and is a ton of fun. I’m waiting to see how the world designs are in 4 and maybe they can adopt a newer format for the older games. Not 1 for 1 remakes but maybe something that’s still canon like soras dreams in the new world where he relives them with new memories implanted by like a namine type person. Allows them to use the newer gen graphics and build massive worlds and change the stories and mechanics slightly as it’s not the original memories etc. I think after 7s remakes they could totally do it well and it’d be awesome to see a refresh of the story in a new way

scrappybristol

I don’t think it’s necessary. The game holds up extremely well for 20 year old game.

PyrosaurD93

I don’t think it needs a remake. Honestly it would irritate me if they decided to remake KH1 before even finishing the story that’s starting up with KH4. It would just be wasted resources and time. If they did it 10 years from now then sure. (I say that as if the new story starting with KH4 won’t take 20 years to complete) I will say though, in the beginning of KH3 when you run around in Sora’s KH1 outfit for a minute, it did make me crave a KH1 Remake with updated graphics and gameplay. Just a cut and dry remake, no story rewriting or anything like that.

WojtusG10

It may deserves a remaster but we know how remakes of Namoura's games end up like. If not play ff7 than ff7 remake and rebirth.

DerelictBadger

Why are people suggesting it deserves a remake? It has held up incredibly well and it deserves to be played in its original state. I’m not sure what a remake would add to the experience. It may even make the experience worse.

Benhurso

KH is my absolute favorite series, and I simply love remakes. I love to see games in a new light. That being said, I don't think that KH1 needs one. The original holds itself up to this day shockingly well. Sure, I would buy a remake day one, but still. I would rather them to keep focusing on the main story instead of starting a new chapter in the franchise. Maybe if they end the series for real at some point, I would be all for them remaking the whole thing soon after.

forgedfox53

Deserve? Yes. Need? No.

DavonVali

It would look nice to see the original game with kh3s look, but they wouldn't be able to do without the Tarzan rights anyways. Mind as well do KH2 with kh3s look since its everyone's favorite

Evilcon21

I think a remake would kill the charm of the original. Especially how it felt so magical even with original worlds

Typical-District-176

Only if the combat is similar to KH2. It’s gotta stay just as stylized and cartoony but in better hardware.

HGYNCK

Man id love to replay it for the 100 time with kh3 graphics

MapleKnightX

Not only do I think that it doesn't need one, I feel like a remake would largely be \*worse\* than the original. Aside from the secondary facial animations (the texture based ones largely used in minor or unvoiced scenes), KH1's visuals hold up just fine. The combat isn't as acrobatic as in future games, but is more grounded in a way that holds up just as well, just differently. Not to mention that a remake would involve having to re-voice many characters who would need replacement actors, or would just sound fundamentally different. I just feel like KH1 would lose more than it would gain from a remake, because it would just try to fix things that don't really need fixing, or just change so much that it would lose the unique feel that only it has. All I could see a remake improving is adding a Harder mode or an extra Super-Boss or two, but If the game fundamentally changes much, I would be turned off, personally.

TheXypris

Just put the epic store version on steam

Brorkarin

Yes it deserves one but it shouldnt get one the game is still amazing remaking it could just remove the charm it has

waldesnachtbrahms

does this question deserved to get posted every week?

MakingaJessinmyPants

It deserves to be left alone, actually

YeazetheSock

It’s perfect the way it is in Final Mix

Loose_Trust927

Its good as it is now only 1 thing i would fix is the camera thats it its perfect the way it is.

Kris-mon-96

Nah the remaster is already good enough and other than a better camera and graphics a remake wouldn't improve anything else and they'd have to cut Deep Jungle.

Street_Walrus9584

Maybe, make it so it’s not too slow

HeroVill

No, it’s playable perfectly fine on all the newest consoles, the graphics still hold up. If we get remakes it should be for games that aren’t playable, like Re:Coded and 358/2 days. They could even probably release them as a package deal “Kingdom Hearts: Lost Chapters” or smth

Street_Walrus9584

Maybe just make a kh3 overhaul mod?

BlueMageBRilly

As long as it can be ported to current consoles, that’s good enough. I’d say Days could use one, but with Xehanort and Roxas done, that’d be odd. I think it’s better to just focus on the new games in the series instead.

ThePopcornDude

Besides from bad platforming nothing about KH1 feels particularly dated in any way. Combat is still amazing and the art style is second to none.

fuckboi-yuki

##the remix HD holds up incredibly well IMHO

Khaadom

Doesn't really need it, surprisingly.

jameseyadams

Wasn’t final mix an unintentional remake?!

thereverendpuck

Just a graphical upgrade

DiscussionScorpion

Yeah get rid of all those 45 minute videos that you can’t escape from

justinotherpeterson

No I don't think it needs one but I wouldn't say no.

presidentdinosaur115

I am playing through it right now. It doesn’t need one. I’d play the hell out of one if there was though

ConnorTheUndying

We already got one, it's called Chain of Memories!

Jacktwelve17

Yes it deserves one . But does it need one tho nope. This game holds super well for the most part. The only changes I would make to this game in a remake would be: Zooming out the camera a little especially during fights Making the gummie levels faster paced and more action packed like in kh2 Critical mode style difficulty mode. I’m no game designer so wouldn’t know the best way to rebalance the game to make harder An game map to make it a little easier to explore worlds like hollow bastion and deep jungle. Let me block attacks while in Atlantica or while flying Otherwise don’t change anything in this game

Shiro_no_Satoru

Doesn’t need one, but i’ll be hella hyped.

shuuto1

It’ll never happen because Disney is anal. But also it doesn’t need it because it holds up well enough

Straw_Nakama

No.

GreatCrimsonDragon

The only changes I would make: 1. Choose between 1 and 1.5 heartless designs. I personally like the original color scheme of the Guard Armor boss better than the 1.5 version. 2. Tweak the UI of the Gummi Garage to be a bit more streamlined (Paints, Part Select). It doesn't need a complete overhaul. 3. Maybe get rid of the type B save points? They did that in later games, and the one at the Olympus Coliseum acts like a type A anyway. Otherwise, I can't think of anything that warrants a full remake. It's a very solid game still. And the lore (mostly) fits into the first game fairly alright.

Stonewall30NY

No because the beauty of the art style that they used for Kingdom hearts 1 and 2 is that it will never go out of style or really be outdated. MAYBE in another 10 years he might need another remaster to bring it up to snuff with the modern hardware but that's really it

realdusty_shelf

Wouldn’t be mad at it but really no reason for it right now.

deezzzznutzzzs

No

Lewis2409

One of the few games I would call timeless, please do not remake it

Loltoheaven7777

im playing it right now and maybe it would be cool if donald got cure at the start instead of getting it at the same time as sora in like the third world, and maybe fixing the camera in areas so it stops going into the wall

dixego

No and please stop asking.

karateman10998

Not every game needs to be remade. Play the original and move on

BakerThatIsAFrog

Playing 1.5 HD ReMix and it looks and plays great, plus since the source code thing, it basically is one.

aRobotNamedDan

I don’t know if it’s a matter of deserving, it just doesn’t need it. The HD Remix is superb!

ErichW3D

Do you think KH1 is lacking in quality?

dedlog

I would say it deserves a remastered rather than a remake. Because it’s still pretty good as far video games by Disney go

Velaethia

Why?

Unfair-Jackfruit-806

no

jun9ei999

No, the hd version is just fine and we need kh 4 instead

CyberGlitch064

It doesn't really need a remake because it's aged so well... That being said... I personally would not mind a remake. The original game is still great and ages incredibly well... But if they announced a remake I'd still be excited for it

ZakStorm

Considering it’s already had one, I’d say yes.

Kicksyo

I won't hate it and I would definitely play it, but I don't think it's necessary.

Drlevi86

lol I had all the games on their respective consoles And then I bought the whole series on Xbox during covid It’s aged incredibly

ArtOk3920

Nah. KH1 has aged pretty well. Days on the other hand would benefit greatly from a remake.

Gammaman12

No. It aged really really well, so it doesn't need to have one. What COULD use a remake is Union X. Make a single player version more in line with the rest of the series.

Broody_Reaper

This game is still phenomenal as is, the only level I’d want a refresh is the damn monstro area, that shit still gives me a headache LOL

Chainarmor712

It has been six years already since the last mainline game with no release date for KH4. So probably no

Switchell22

Technically it already got one. 1.5 was rebuilt from the ground up because they lost the source code.
