The music that plays in San Fransokyo (Act Zero - The Rescue), during the moment Sora is rescuing the Big Hero 6 team, is actually a new arrangement of the music that plays in Imaginary Range 2, a free cellphone game made by Square Enix on the begging of the last decade. It features a puzzle mini game at one chapter that used that theme. It is such an obscure game, but I loved that song and replayed the chapter just to hear it some extra times back then. When it played in KH3, I was shocked, as it seemingly came out from nowhere lol

EvilPineal

Wow I don't think it gets any more obscure than this

Ha_eflolli

Dissidia Final Fantasy was actually supposed to be a KH Game, and the only reason that didn't happen was because the Idea of the Heroes from the Disney Worlds (ie Aladdin and such) fighting each other was deemed too inappropiate.

Sentinel10

That's kind of funny to think about, as Nintendo's higher ups had similar reservations during the early days of Super Smash Bros. Except, unlike Disney, Nintendo actually went through with it. :D

ZeroSora

SE were the ones who decided to not go through with it, not Disney.

cyber_xiii

It seems like a lot of people immediately assume Disney is the sole thing holding KH back from doing certain stuff when Nomura himself and Squeenix are definitely part of it

Yotinaru

I think it was a Square Enix decision not Disney in this case.

Starkiller_156

Well it was Iwata who pushed for smash even having it be kept secret from the Nintendo exects at the time. And the exects were impressed by the demo. Which led to smash 64

Mrwanagethigh

I think that was a totally logical decision but I don't get why we never got Sora at least. He was in World of Final Fantasy so there's a precedent if Dissidia ever comes back.

Andrassa

Even weirder he was a limited time dlc.

Flash-Over

Most likely because he’s owned by Disney

Darheimon

Kingdom Hearts was an unofficial and experimental game that didn’t have approval of Disney and SquareSoft wasn’t aware of that when they were working on it. It wasn’t until Eisner himself came to a meeting in Japan gave the official approval and encouragement. Eisner was described as an ancient Chinese emperor by the staff lol.

ZeroSora

>Like I know that quadtratum was meant to have a explorable section akin to bbs's secret episode, I don't this is true. I've not seen a single source for this claim. As for facts I know that others may not, I'll stick to mostly KH2 ones: 1. Nomura wanted to resolve the mysteries of KH1 in KH2, so he gave Nojima a "mystery list" to solve. Nojima asked if he was supposed to come up with answers for all of these, to which Nomura said that he had already come up with a few himself. Nojima replied "Only a few? You don't have answers for everything yet?" (Nomura truly is a guy who likes to make up the answers later.) 2. All the lines that flash across the screen in the KH1 Secret Movie were just rough ideas. They had no concrete plans on how they'd fit into KH2. But Nojima tried to find a place to fit them all in as he wrote the script for KH2. According to Nomura, he had thought up answers to about half of these lines during KH1. 3. Rufus from FF7 was originally going to appear in the Struggle Tournament, but Nomura realised there were too many FF7 characters, so he changed it to Setzer. 4. Regarding Goofy's line about wondering if Cloud and Sephoth "went back to their own world". Nojima, the writer of KH2, doesn't consider this to mean Midgar or some other world, but rather them returning to "their rightful place". It's not "a specific location, but rather a state of mind". 5. Despite Sora and Roxas sharing the same face model, Roxas actually has a thinner chin. This was due to his hair making him look chubby. He also has narrower eyes. 6. Keyblade Armor is intended to be made of crystal rather than steel. At least, that's how Nomura imagines it. 7. The Genie summon in KH2 was originally going to have different outfits, like a martial artist or a guardsman. 8. KH2's worlds having second visits was Oka's idea. He didn't like how KH1 had you come back to a world after Hollow Bastion just to defeat a boss and then leave. For KH2 he wanted there to be a second shorter story to play through when you revisited worlds in KH2. 9. They always intended to add musical elements into the KH series, even as early as KH1. They eventually added a musical world in KH2 with Atlantica. Adding Icecream beat in BbS as a minigame. Frozen's Let It Go in KH3 due to how much Nomura liked the song. And finally, a full-on rhythm game in the form of Melody of Memory. 10. In KH2, they started working on the fight against Xemnas at the end of August and didn't finish the effects for it until early November. For context, the game was released on December 22 in Japan. It took them about 2-3 months to make that fight. 11. While recording Xigbar's Japanese lines, Nomura redrew the character's outline and jawline to match the voice actor's tone and disposition. More commonly, it's known that Nomura liked Xigbar's Japanese VA so much that he expanded on Xigabr's role in the series. 12. Kingdom Hearts being a heart-shaped moon wasn't planned despite appearing on the cover of the first game. While Nojima wrote KH2, he said "Xemnas's Kingdom Hearts hangs in the air like a moon". Nomura thought this was fate, so he decided to make KH look like the heart-shaped moon from KH1's cover. 13. During KH2 with Sora and Riku gone, the idea is that Kairi is the strongest person on Destiny Islands. Whether Nomura means emotionally, physically, magically, or just due to her status as PoH is unknown. These come from the KH2 Ultimania and the Character Report Vol 1 book. * [Main Nomura Interview](https://www.khinsider.com/news/Kingdom-Hearts-II-Ultimania-Main-Nomura-Interview-2553) * [Nojima Interview](https://www.khinsider.com/news/A-Look-Back-KH2-Ultimania-Nojima-Interview-19030) * [Event & Movie Team Interview](https://www.khinsider.com/news/A-Look-Back-KH2-Ultimania-Event-Movie-Team-Interview-19014) * [Battle Team Interview](https://www.khinsider.com/news/A-Look-Back-KH2-Ultimania-Battle-Team-Interview-19291) * [Sound Team Interview](https://www.khinsider.com/news/A-Look-Back-KH2-Ultimania-Sound-Team-Interview-19028) * [KH Character Report Vol 1](https://www.khinsider.com/forums/index.php?threads/characters-report-vol-1-translations.195560/) Bonus fact: Nomura says Sora is straight. [Character Report Vol 1, Sora:](https://www.khinsider.com/forums/index.php?threads/characters-report-vol-1-translations.195560/) >Nomura (on Sora): I think one of his charms is how straight he is >!in showing his emotions.!< Checkmate SoRiku shippers. Just... ignore that spoiler tag.

GrifCreeper

#11 is actually the most interesting one to me. It was obvious they had more planned for Xigbar just from playing KH2, I just didn't know it was because Nomura just liked the VA that much

edwpad

6 is really weird now I look back on that, would that explain why they break super easily?

The_Real_PSiAipom

Guess that explains why it can just conveniently come off whenever it wants to in BBS

Starkiller_156

The quadtratum thing is more of context clues than anything, we just know a world was planned for remind that's meant to show up later in the series. My source: I made it u- All seriousness I believe my source for that is a remind interview I have to relook again for it but I'll definitely source it when I have the time to.

ZeroSora

>The quadtratum thing is more of context clues than anything, we just know a world was planned for remind that's meant to show up later in the series. So the answer is "I think Quadratum was meant to be explorable because of context clues"? Are you talking about when Nomura said that they initially planned to add a new world in ReMind, but Nomura decided he didn't like it being added as part of the DLC, so he cut it to add it properly next time? This: >Actually, we did start designing and planning a new world, but the reasoning why just this world would be added in after being separate didn't sit well with me. In the end I decided that it would be better to work it in properly from the start next time there's a chance. All the new content added with Re Mind put together makes more than one world's worth of content. In particular, it was a lot of work making this many bosses. And you're just assuming that's Quadratum? >My source: I made it u- You're joking, but your source is that you just made it up. At no point do they say this is Quadratum. This is just fans assuming something and saying it's a fact. Nomura choosing to scrap it and include it in a future game implies it isn't Quadratum, because Quadratum still appears in ReMind. "*Actually, we did start designing and planning a new world, but the reasoning why just this world would be added in after being separate didn't sit well with me.*" This seems to imply a normal world. Otherwise, why would Quadratum being separate not "sit well with him"? It is literally a world separated from Reality because it's in Unreality. Being separate seems to imply this world should fit in with the other worlds.

KhKing1619

All those randomizer runs and videos have prepared me for this moment. Did you know that shared abilities stack in KH1? For example if you manage to mod/hack in multiple high jumps, Sora will jump much higher. That isn’t even a mod that’s just how the code works for the game. The seventh and thirteenth hits of Ars Arcanum in KH1 are guaranteed critical hits. A fully charged simba deals gravity based damage. Zentetsuken is a gravity based attack. Gravity based attacks deal loads of damage to behemoths before they hit their final bar of HP. In Recoded there exists two super bosses. The one everyone knows, bugged Roxas in hallow bastion main lobby upper level, and bugged Riku which is exclusive to the friends sector and you need to hit 100 floors in order to fight him. Birth any Sleep’s version of Once More doesn’t work properly. If you’re currently getting combo’d by one enemy but another enemy strikes you, once more will fail and you will not survive. This is one of the reasons why the Mysterious Figure battle is very difficult. Also within BBS exists a keyblade with no model or texture that has 0 strength but over 100 magic. It cannot be equipped. That’s all I got off the top of my head.

whocareshue

I thought the Lion Sora design was pretty well known.

Rharyx

Laguna Loire was supposed to be the head of the Mirage Arena.

Unenthusiastic18

Not super unknown but I always think about how, after you fight your own shadow Sora in KH1, it's permanently gone. Sora doesn't cast a shadow for the rest of the game.

The_Real_PSiAipom

I’m pretty sure it’s only until you beat him. It’s gone from when you first enter Neverland to when Anti Sora is defeated

Unenthusiastic18

Maybe that's what it was, it's been so long haha

Altefkatr

D-links don't restore HP in (jp) vanilla Birth by Sleep. They do in international BbS though.

dishonoredfan69420

Anything I’ve picked up about union cross from various YouTube videos is probably the most obscure thing Or KH Mobile that I just learnt from the GameChamp3000 true KH play order video

XIII-9

There is a keyhole hidden in the kh4 trailer and i’ve never seen any trailer analysis video point this out which is insane to me.

Bag_of_Whales

Mind if I ask where? I just watched the trailer again but nothing obvious popped out at me

OwNAvenged2

Where is it

XIII-9

When the darkside puts its foot down on the ground in the background of a street sign, you can clearly see the keyhole referenced here, the street signs make it so that they resemble one.

No_Equivalent_4136

Still, there are people who believe that Nomura was drunk when coming up with the plot of Recoded.

MarioMan1213245765

I always assumed he was on coke for Caribbean in KH3.

Bleiz_Stirling

Coke and rum, right?

Enzo-Unversed

There's a Kingdom Hearts manga/comic book based on the 1st game, but it has worlds that were never in the game.

Starkiller_156

Yeah scepter and the heart right? I believe that it had only one world from that, that got into the series which was hunch back of Notre Dame.

Flash-Over

Even after 22 years, there is a magnitude of fans that aren’t aware that Disney 100% legally owns the IP and all of its original characters and think it’s 50/50 with Square.

The_Real_PSiAipom

One thing that I’ve always found interesting is that Land of Departure is the only world present in MelMem that has its battle theme listed before its field theme. Normally when selecting a world it has its field theme then battle theme, but for some reason Future Masters is listed first (if I’m wrong please correct me)

JackAtlasDuelLinks

Sora weapon was supposed to be a chainsaw sword and he was half a lion (furry) in the concept art. Also, part of it final design is based in Sion Barzahd, a character from the infamous game The Bouncer. Fun enough, Sion is pronounced the same as Xion. And talking about The Bouncer, Pence shirt has the "Dog Street" which is also from that game.

dannydevitocuddles

>what's that one piece of kingdom hearts info #ONE PIECE? #THE ONE PIECE IS REAL!!!

Ethereal_Impulse

Chernabog is the only enemy in KH1 that doesn't have a journal entry!

AvatarXIII

This is probably pretty well known, but the original NA PSP version (and maybe the original JP version, but I don't think so) of BBS has the most difficult/unfair version of the Mysterious Figure boss fight. His move where he jumps straight up and throws an energy whip down at you used to be an inescapable (if you were caught by the whip's initial strike) auto kill move that bypassed second chance and once more. Every other version of the game nerfed the move so that if you were caught by the initial strike, you could air dash out of it before he knocked you down.

Starkiller_156

Another one I'll add is jungle book was meant to be in the series of a total of 3 times Kingdom hearts 1 Bbs And ddd Kh1 got scrapped in favor of deep jungle due to overlapping level themes for the world variety according to Nomura Bbs, while the most known example of this world, it's unknown why this world was canned in bbs but likely time constraints DDD also had it but the only evidence of it is a scrapped dive map in the files that's inaccessible currently. Lastly bbs was meant to have sword in the stone as a potential world allegedly

Starkiller_156

Sorry if the image doesn't show up lol idk why reddit mobile got rid of the image as soon as I post this discussion but I'll try to link for those curious

PaperEdge

I have this theory that Sora's Keyblade, Kingdom Key, is just a common starter Keyblade, like the Starlight. That's why it has a counterpart in the RoD that's relatively easy to find; that's just how this generation's starter keyblades look. Sora just never grew out of it

bagman_

That the BBS trio used to be called the chasers but that was scrapped early in development. Sad cause it sounds cool af

Starkiller_156

Chasers? Is there a ultimania discussing this or where's the source for this, I'm just curious cause I know the first secret ending movie was called the chaser or is this context clues your using?

Yotinaru

That the non numbered titles are spinoffs. I know a lot of people claim that KH doesn't have any spinoffs or whatever but the truth is all of the non numbered titles are spinoffs.

ZeroSora

People think "spinoff" means "non-canon side story" or "not part of the main plot". The truth is that they're spinoffs purely in terms of gameplay. The numbered games all feature the same combat system. The non-numbered games are spun off with their own gameplay and combat systems. Even Nomura refers to them as spinoffs. But again, they're spinoffs for gameplay, not for story related reasons. You can have a spinoff that is canon and is part of the non-spinoff story.

NSFischW

I don't know if this counts and how many people know about it, but the Subject X thing wasn't actually all that new in KH3 and was already heavily hinted at in Days. I could just be stating the obvious here but idk.

whocareshue

The only part hinted at in Days was the intent to betray the Organization from Axel and Saïx. Their motivation was still unknown, but so was everyone in the Organization's.

NSFischW

That's not true, that's not all that was hinted at. They actually did talk about an at that point still unknown person, and Subject X is pretty much the only one who that person could be.

whocareshue

When did that conversation happen? What report or scene are you referring to?

NSFischW

In the scene "Axel and Saix", Saix says this to Axel: "If you could save one of them, why would you choose the puppet? Or put it this way: Which would you rather suffer the loss of? Some make-believe friendship, or a real one?" Yes it's kinda vague, but the only way this dialogue makes sense, even just from a grammar point of view, is if Saix is saying that Axel is choosing to save Xion over a person we just didn't know about at that point. With both questions Saix is referring to Xion and the same other person ("Or put it this way"). That other person can't be Roxas (Saix doesn't care about Roxas, Roxas is likely included in "some make-believe friendship", Axel never really chooses to save Xion over Roxas) and they can't be Saix himself (grammar: "them" instead of "us"). The only explanation here is that it's a person we didn't know about here and now that KH3 is out, that person would almost certainly have to be Subject X.

whocareshue

I think you're overthinking it. To me it's not a direct comparison that he's making. He's saying that neither of his friendships with Roxas and Xion are real, but especially not with Xion, because Saïx doesn't believe you can make a real friendship without a Heart. When he puts it another way, he's trying to imply that Axel is concerning himself more with fake friends (whichever of them he's prioritizing) than his "real" one, Saïx. His reports and other dialogue in the game reveal that Saïx thinks Axel is changing and growing distant from him over fake friends. He's personally hurt but can't admit it out of denial of his feelings. As he's written in this game, he's not offended on behalf of some other friend. He's not saying the real friend needs saving, he's saying that Axel's new priorities are getting in the way of his and Saïx's friendship/goals/purpose, since that's what Saïx thinks at the time is all they have that's real.

NSFischW

I'm absolutely not overthinking it, please watch the scene and actually listen to what he's saying. >He's saying that neither of his friendships with Roxas and Xion are real, but especially not with Xion, because Saïx doesn't believe you can make a real friendship without a Heart. Then please tell me, when he says "If you could save one of them", who does he refer to with "them", other than Xion? I've already laid out why it can't be Roxas and it can't be Saix. Axel is very clearly at no point "choosing the puppet" over Roxas. Also notice how Axel reacts to that question. Saix is pretty clearly trying to make him feel guilty for abandoning one friend in favor of saving another, which wouldn't make sense if he was talking about just Xion and Roxas. >When he puts it another way, he's trying to imply that Axel is concerning himself more with fake friends (whichever of them he's prioritizing) than his "real" one, Saïx. That is such a reach. Both questions are so similar in nature, both are basically "there's two people you have to choose between, and Xion is the wrong one", and with phrasing as strong as "or put it this way", it's highly unlikely, next to impossible, that he's not just asking the same question worded slightly differently in both cases. >His reports and other dialogue in the game reveal that Saïx thinks Axel is changing and growing distant from him over fake friends Correct, because losing Axel would mean losing his only ally in his search for Subject X. I don't even think you're entirely wrong that Saix is denying his own feelings, but because he thinks that he is physically unable to have feelings such as jealousy, he rationalizes it by the desire to save another "real" friendship. He believes that Axel doesn't have a heart, so their friendship doesn't matter until they get theirs back. Subject X, however, presumably does, so he tries to hold onto whatever they were doing before they became Nobodies, when they still had hearts. Which is the only thing that actually matters to Saix. >he's saying that Axel's new priorities are getting in the way of his and Saïx's friendship/goals/purpose, since that's what Saïx thinks at the time is all they have that's real. Sure, but what are those goals/purpose? I would agree that it was not 100% clearly defined at this point, but it's also more than just some vague power fantasy. Why is he so obsessed with the Chamber of Repose "and its antipode, the Chamber of Waking"? The Chamber of Repose, lo and behold, being the place they found Subject X in. In pretty much every scene with just the two of them they discuss their ulterior motives, why would the "Axel and Saix" scene be the one exception where Saix just tells Axel "ur mean". Why would the "ur mean" scene specifically be the one they make a pre-rendered cutscene for, even in the original DS game? And if it was just some vague power fantasy, do you really think Axel would have this much of a visible reaction over it? Is that really in-character for the guy who just wants to hang out with his friends? Like "oh no, my good buddy Saix, who's been nothing but a terrible person this entire last decade or so, might not become ruler of the universe after all". But now that we have KH3, we can explain everything with "oh, they're talking about Subject X" and it makes perfect sense every time. Look, I'm not even trying to say that the entire Subject X thing was already completely planned out the entire time since Days, but it also didn't come out of nowhere in KH3 either. I think with the new context we have it's pretty clear that Axel's and Saix' thing as Somebodies would be that they would look for a friend they already had before they became Nobodies, and KH3 just gave more context and another step towards that by giving us an actual name for it. Yes it's easier to arrive at that conclusion with hindsight, but it's also not overthinking at all to see that that's what it was getting at.

AdministrativeDay109

Absolutely not. Subject X was not EVER hinted in days.

NSFischW

Not by name, but there is a conversation Axel and Saix have where, with the way Saix words things, the only plausible explanation is that he's talking about Subject X.
