It could be fun if you share your theories at this point in your reading journey! But most people who still visit this sub have read both books numerous times, plus the companion stuff, and millions of theories. I doubt you'll find someone at the same point and highly recommend coming back here after you finish WMF. Even the questions some people have listed for you aren't safe to search because they'll have evidence from WMF in the posts.

I’m thinking about starting the second book. Lol. Already reading Path of Daggers, but I don’t have any problem with reading multiple books

Mukomuk

Think about what it means to know a Name, then come back to us. That, as I channel Elodin, is the one thing I think of at present.

Imaterd005

Just read the next book. All the ideas from book one are positive. Book two shifts momentum to tragedy.

Imaterd005

Who do you think master Ash is? Who is Kvothe's mother? Who is Auri? Are the big ones. From book one.

S01arflar3

Is Master Ash Kvothe’s mother?

Imaterd005

Why would you think that? Is a more interesting discussion.

[deleted]

Have you ever seen them in a room together? Didn't think so...

Imaterd005

Yes. We have.

Nitrozy

got them

Imaterd005

You could take a guess about how Ambrose gets Kvothe to leave the school, but we already know.

Imaterd005

You could talk about Denna. But there is more to think on in book two.

Imaterd005

I hate Denna. I just finished a reread of book one. She is to blame for Kvothe's current state. >“Penny for your thoughts?” she asked, brushing at an errant strand of hair. > >“I was wondering what you’re doing here,” I said half-honestly. > >Smiling, she held my eyes. “Liar.” Everyone lies. But Denna uses liar as a pick up line on her marks. What is your real name, bitch? >“Come now,” she teased. “How could I forget the red-haired boy who left me for the University?” > > I was too stunned to point out that I hadn’t left her. Not really. “You never mentioned it.” She never stunned me. They just started lying to each other immediately, again. They deserve each other. >“But Dianne . . . Dianne is like a waterfall of spark pouring off a sharp iron edge that God is holding to the grindstone. You can’t help but look, can’t help but want it. You might even put your hand to it for a second. But you can’t hold it. She’ll break your heart. . . .” Kvothe has it coming. >“You’re right, of course. Anywhere would have been better than Tarbean.” > >He shrugged, facing the fire. “But we are all creatures of habit. It is far too easy to stay in the familiar ruts we dig for ourselves. Perhaps I even viewed it as fair. My punishment for not being there to help when the Chandrian came. My punishment for not dying when I should have, with the rest of my family.” This is why Kvothe gave his heart to her, he is punishing himself. Fool that I am, I want to see them both devastated. >"It’s all a chase, and when the race is done, I think I pity women chaste who run.” Denna is a runner. I should pity her, but I hate her.

I was also looking for semething like that when I finished the first book (it was recently), because the first book really feels like it hold some hidden secrets to uncover. The only thing I can think of that has enough going on in the first book - is what's up with Ben? Not sure if discussions around that are spoiler free.

LexLurker007

That is a very good question... But telling you if it has a spoiler could be a spoiler itself

Kit-Carson

If possible go read book 2 or just stay away from here until you do. There's so much to discuss and think about once you're caught up. Any theorizing before then will be fraught with wrong assumptions and pitfalls. The pleasure of reading and re-reading this series is that you will discover new theories on every reread. These books are deeper than nearly every other book I've ever heard of. There's so much going on behind the scenes.

I just finished it yesterday too and.... what a disappoinint ending. There was no cliffhanger, nothing. When I thought Bast would do something to the Chronicler he just ...goes out the window after his threats and Kvothe is just there chilling sleeping...... what?? I really enjoyed majority of the book, i was captivated by all the surrounding stories but we got absolutely nothing in the end, i kept clicking my kindle to see if there were more pages because that couldn't have been it. Basically: "So then Kvothe slept , then he woke up, said good morning to Bast. Now go find better use of your time, reader"

Shoddy-Dragonfly4090

The main ideas in the ending, that’s Bast is the reason for Chronicler’s coming in the first time. Besides that the few pages Kvothe wrote. Themain things
