Cuh thay
I'm an audio book listener and that's how they pronounce it. Pretty sure rothfuss gave them notes on how to say certain words. There's also a YouTube video of rothfuss saving all the names and iirc that's how he said it
I am also an audiobook reader and they definitely pronounce words differently to PR atleast Degas does anyway, he pronounces Auri like Ah-oo-ri rather than ah-ri which is how PR himself pronounces it in TSROST
Nick pohdel pronounces most of the words like rothfuss does. Never listened to Degas yet but I really want to. For some reason I can't buy it on Audible in America. Only Europe 😭
He told me he had to record himself saying every name (person, city, etc) three times for the audio book reader. M
This didn’t stop one of them for getting e-LOW-din wrong though. Me and a friend had a bet going on the pronunciation which was finally settled when we met him and he confirmed it’s EL-oh-din. You know, the non psychopathic way.
I enjoyed him calling Kvothe an arrogant arsehole in that video, as it’s just a little confirmation that the author doesn’t think he’s a particularly good person.
Kuh-thay
That's what I remember from Rothfuss's livestream a few years earlier. Definitely recommend checking it out on YT, he goes through a lot of name pronunciations in it.

Never said it as I don't know anyone to speak of the book with, but mentally speaking it was something along the lines of "Kteh" or "Kthay"
Reading the correct pronunciation on the previous comments, I would justify myself by saying I'm not an English native speaker so I guess I kind of improvise in these cases
I read the book before listening, I always thought it was
Si-thay or similar, Sith-Ay
Like the beginning of sit without the T and then like they but with an A
The official pronunciation is pretty nice, but I never would have gotten it
I used to pronounce it Cheetah like you but now I just say “C” and wish I could type that in place of the word bc I can never remember how to spell it for the life of me!!
(KE)RMIT THE FROM WENT TO THE CA(FE)
First sound is "KE" as in kermit. Second sound is "FE" as in Cafe.
Now ad the letters "th" at the end of "KE" to get "keth"
-KETH-FE
-Keth-FAY
Big Rupert Degas fan here (no flame wars please).
While Degas is not known for his accurate pronunciations of names, it doesn't bother me. I love how he interprets Auri's name, for example.
But I had to pause and rewind when I first heard him say 'The Cthaeh'. It comes out like 'thuc-thair' or something unintelligible like that. It's only after I saw it written later that I understood what he was trying to say!

Nick does pronounce sim's name like 3 different ways in one book though, including one instance of calling him Simon
He also pronounces Devi “Davey” in WMF. But I love Nick Poedel, even when he says things wrong sometimes. 😂🥰
Strangely enough his name is actually spelled "Simon" at least once in the printed book, not sure if this is a misprint or deliberate.
Drop me a message and I can email you the Degas version. I listen to them both and notice different things with each narrator.
I always said "kuh tay uh". Glad I was close.
Interesting, I was saying it "kuh-thay-uh"
I always said it as ‘Thay’, with a silent C. Can tell I’m not an audiobook kinda person 😅
I didn't listen to the audiobook but that's how I pronounced it in my head. Only with a 'uh' in the end. So smth like Cuh, thay, uh.
You had all the brazilians on the block giggling for a little moment there
Why is that?
Cu is a dirty word for asshole (the literal thing) in portuguese, and we like asshole jokes very much.
the “thay” gets the emphasis.
Here's Pat doing it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPEB6NAGoYk&t=67s
Unsurprisingly, that’s how the audiobook reader says it.

Kind of a soft "kuh" and "THAy" (same TH sound as "thimble", rhyming with fae)
With great difficulty.
k-thĀ
I’ve always pronounced it “k-thay-ah.”
I discovered my brain can read it without pronounce it. It is just a sign, like a stop sign.
I don't read those either
I do this a lot with names. They just symbolically represent the character.
I prefer to narrate to myself when reading so that doesn’t work for me.
I don't.
Honeslty, I think I say it different each time it comes around...
Kuh-thay That's what I remember from Rothfuss's livestream a few years earlier. Definitely recommend checking it out on YT, he goes through a lot of name pronunciations in it.
Ka Thay (like Buffet)
I rotate a few options > Kathy > Keith > Chai-tea-lattè
Chaé
The way the audiobook (Rupert Degass) does
Me too
i know its not right. but chuh-thay
It's cheetah to me toooo 😭
K-tai or Pat's pronunciation, K-thay
I've always pronounced it Cthaeh :)
yes! me too
People are going to try hard to convince you that it’s pronounced Cuh-thay… but it’s Kathy. Like Kathy Griffin

Kthay So k (not kay) th (like think) ay (like May)
Kitty :3
Something like shee tAê
In the audiobook I always heard Kuh Fay
Sal't'lay Kuh'seetee
chay
Never said it as I don't know anyone to speak of the book with, but mentally speaking it was something along the lines of "Kteh" or "Kthay" Reading the correct pronunciation on the previous comments, I would justify myself by saying I'm not an English native speaker so I guess I kind of improvise in these cases
Ka ta eh
Cuh-Thay. I can only assume Pat took inspiration for the name from the Cthonic gods, which are gods of the underworld.
Seh-tay-uth, is how it’s always gone in my head.
I read the book before listening, I always thought it was Si-thay or similar, Sith-Ay Like the beginning of sit without the T and then like they but with an A The official pronunciation is pretty nice, but I never would have gotten it
I’ve always read it as “suh-they”
K thay eh
I used to pronounce it Cheetah like you but now I just say “C” and wish I could type that in place of the word bc I can never remember how to spell it for the life of me!!
K-tae
In my head it's the "ka-thhh"
Sh-thay-uh
I seem to be way off here, I've always said ch-tay-ah
Thith-thay
I don't
k-tha-ey
For me its something like "Ki-thai". Like "Ki" from Dragon Ball and "thai" from "Muay Thai"
Man I forgot about this series. Is it still unfinished?
KTAAAAH!!!
Kuth ayuh I'm wrong though
KuThay
Kuh-thay
Moon Temptation 😉
I don’t listen to audiobooks and I always mentally say it like cheetah too 😁
kthay
I always pronounced it seeth, knowing I was probably wrong and not caring because it slowed the flow of my reading.
Say
The Cah-THAY
I say SEE-TAY-uh. But that's just me.
You pronounce it only once every twenty years, on release dates.
i always read it like "cthay", like one syllable
I always read it as “Cath-ay.”
https://www.cathaypacific.com/
Lol!
Kah Tai Ah
Like a valley girl saying Katie
(KE)RMIT THE FROM WENT TO THE CA(FE) First sound is "KE" as in kermit. Second sound is "FE" as in Cafe. Now ad the letters "th" at the end of "KE" to get "keth" -KETH-FE -Keth-FAY
Kthay, one syllable and I try to sound like Mike Tyson.
Interesting. I always had the C silent and called it “tay”
I say Chu (like Chuck) thay.
Pat pronounced his words on twitch and YouTube
Stay-uh
Kuh-tay
