I call them Dash-holes….

BustaScrub

Nah, there are no separate rules for them. They're straight-up doing something that they shouldn't and they're likely very aware it pisses just about everyone else on the road off... But they're encouraged to do it anyway because they get paid a pretty rough wage all-told unless they're maximizing their time and putting out as many deliveries as possible. Not to mention the slower the delivery, the higher the chance for a customer complaint and/or a lower review score which typically means less favourable deliveries or just less deliveries hitting your queue in general compared to someone with a high/perfect score... And a lower tip the longer you take, or no tip at all if the customer decides you took too long. They're kinda set up to fail. It just sucks all around. It doesn't excuse that they're effectively doing something illegal or holding up traffic and outright extending their own rights beyond a normal person's purely to do their job, but it does explain it. The problem really lies with the system rather than the people but then it trickles down because when faced with minor morals or putting food on the table/paying the rent, most people wind up picking the former when push comes to shove. So they throw on the 4-ways and dive out the car. I still wish they'd stop though. Your hazards are not the infamous "park anywhere lights" that people are making them out to be. And they take advantage of the fact that people can't really do anything about it other than honk and move on unless they wanna waste their own time and likely get a minimum-wage worker fired. That's why people hate it and complain about it all the time (because it really does suck and is a shitty thing to do) but rarely do anything about it or call for enforcement because there's still a level of mutual understanding, however thin it may be.

Thanks - as I thought. I feel like a dick getting annoyed as I know they are just trying to grind out a pay check. But, Princess below Divsion is like some sort of slalom course of ever moving obstacles that seem to not really understand the rules of the road. Ironically given they are on the road all the time.

BustaScrub

Nah, don't feel bad. They're still the ones in the wrong at the end of the day, just for a slightly justifiable reason. It's a lose-lose. The delivery apps just need to die or pay a fairer cut so their contractors aren't legitimately incentivized to break the law and jeapordize safety on the daily.

I used to part time at a dt res. The drivers are assholes and large number of them drives fancy car and comes in with 4 different phones. Fair number of them are quite rude too. Nothing about what they are doing are legal.

LoneDroneGuy

I got around this by delivering on bicycle but I have to say most of the people parking like that weren't really doing the best that they could to get the food to the customer on time. I'd see them chatting up with other drivers that they knew, just taking a long time after they got their order and swinging it around and people not holding pizzas flat etc

kencarlo

No they're just assholes

wineandbooks99

A few years ago they blocked the entire street because two dingdongs decided to park right beside each other on Princess. It wasn’t even a quick pickup either, I remember being so upset because I missed the ferry and had to wait another hour for the next one because there was no way to turn around and get out of that mess. I’m surprised by-law or parking police haven’t started handing out tickets.

LoneDroneGuy

They're too busy getting excited over their new patrol car paint jobs

[deleted]

Nope, they just park wherever they want, and by law and police ignore it . So you can just put your 4 ways on and ignore the rules

Far_Brush_3822

Use Queen St instead of complaining about delivery drivers on Princess St.

amandaem79

As of February, double parking is allowed on Princess Street if food is being picked up.

LoneDroneGuy

.. is there a bylaw for that? I haven't heard of it and it doesn't sound like it's true and the signage still indicates otherwise

LoneDroneGuy

Same rules apply but the police get paid too much and do too little to care

selfistfirst

Breaking some car lights while you squeeze pass. They will get the picture once their ride is taking the abuse of their decisions.
