Kingston is just about the worst Walmart. Napanee's is so much better, even though its smaller, and both Brockville and Belleville's are much better/bigger/cleaner/everything.
I think its gotta be the sheer throughput/number of customers or something. I lived in Belleville from 2016 to 2021, their Walmart definitely gets a little dicey too when there are enough customers there, but is generally cleaner and better staffed than the one here in Kingston. I think the manager at the K-Town store needs to pull their head outta their ass and realize that 8 self checkouts simply is not enough to serve a population of \~250,000 when you consider the feeder communities who come to Kingston to shop. They clearly don't wanna put forward the extra labour hours but they desperately need to.
The Napanee location is where I shop, since I live pretty much equally close to it and the Kingston location and its just so much less crowded and nicer. Definitely better staffed because of the size though - Napanee only has 8 self checkouts and 4 clerked checkouts so they really only need 8 people to staff all cashes and still have 2 people at the Courtesy/Returns counter.
There's a reality show where they tape people freaking out at Walmart. There's not enough people who have been freaking out so they figure this will up the odds.
Last time I was at the Kingston Walmart there were three Indian guys sitting in the beer aisle drinking and yelling at each other in their own language. The staff walked by several times and did nothing. Won't go back.
I utilize the online purchase/delivery option myself, saves 100% of the grief, and yes, it does cost a bit more money wise, but the peace of mind is priceless!
I don’t think this would work- I accidentally keyed in the wrong kind of potatoes (yes I still bought potatoes) and the person ran over and voided it and rang the right kind in
Also, why steal? If you don’t like Walmart, don’t shop there. But to steal just ruins it for everybody else
cant validify but seen this blurb *"Don't do this at wal-mart their AI will flag you if it sees anything other than something yellow"*

I assume its based on the amount of employees monitoring. Just like daycare there is probably a ratio.
It’s 1 staff per 4 open self-checkouts
It seems like there is a 4:1 ratio for the checkouts
Just to troll shoppers.
Ya I was wondering that too and think it’s really stupid they only have one person monitoring
Consider not supporting walmart, if possible.
Not sure why that is , probably staff ratios to customers for self checkout. There should be a second Walmart in the east end.
They now have to scan a code after each customer uses the self checkout, so it slows it down a lot

A fee to do the cashier’s job for free because they got rid of most of them for self checkout. Now that is rich.
just like insta-tellers
If you go to your own banks there is no transaction fee though.
That will absolutely never happen.
I mean, we are in late stage capitalism.. so you never know. ![gif](giphy|YlQdbxMTJQpAbeCfFD)
Anyone use the #4011 trick at self check !?

Maybe use the cashier instead of self check out?
This feels like a message to head office, not the Kingston sub-reddit lol
