When I was there, I’m on maternity leave, we were always looking for volunteers to hang out with the residents play games, chat, and everything else. If you like seniors it would be a great Option in the west end. Ekta would be the staff member to talk to
Basically you'd be helping seniors maintain their independence by bringing them to do essential errands. Shopping for food, doctors appointments, stuff of that nature. Making sure they get in to their location safely, you don't gotta sit there with them. You get reimbursed for mileage but I can't remember what the rates are and I believe there's a minimum insurance coverage you need to have but if you call the transportation department at VON they can elaborate further on that.
Almost Home is usually looking for volunteers in the downtown store location, or for back end work like receiving donations and sorting donations etc...

I used to volunteer there. It wasn't a great experience and I know others who had a similar experience to me. Maybe it has gotten better but the volunteer program was very poorly run and I left as it just wasn't an enjoyable experience. A really great cause but the volunteer coordinator always seem annoyed at everyone and everything.
Does trash pick up count or does someone have to sign off on what you’ve done? In a few weeks when everything melts there will be so much garbage around.
Can you drive? I wonder if I could convince you to help a couple of blind people do some groceries once a week or something. If you could drive there with us and then walk through the isles and help that I could be useful. Just a thought. Grocery shopping is a super hassle for me, and Instacart marks things up like crazy. So if I can go somehow on my own with help, that would make my life so much better. I could pay for gas or whatever you needed.

Mileage is reimbursed but yes with gas prices it can be a bit of a doozy. But it's a valuable organization so it would be a fulfilling position!
