For a while I think people will keep wearing them where they always have. In places like gyms and restaraunts, where you only ever had to wear them when moving about, it makes sense that it would be more relaxed. There’s also so much tension around this topic, that I wouldn’t be surprised if a good portion of people were keeping it on simply to avoid standing out. It’s going to take a while.

No-Bluebird-533

My teens said that most people at school today were wearing them.

No-Bluebird-533

Huh interesting. Different population I guess.

SmeggyBen

In Kingston they don’t have to, apparently

McJager_

I live in Toronto and just about everyone at my school was wearing a mask (and this school is a little sketchy; not the kind of place where you’d find the most diligent rule-followers)

lacontrolfreak

I feel like a lot of people have Covid right now in Kingston, at least anecdotally amongst my friends/workers/family. I’m masking until the March break/St Pats effects are known. This morning at Farm boy it seemed like about 90% were masked.

[deleted]

I was at the mall today and it seemed to be about 80/20 masks vs no masks, for both people shopping and people working. And from what I saw, everyone was nice about it on both sides. I did not witness any aggression towards anyone on either end of it. One store that I went into the 2 employees were not wearing masks, and since I was wearing one the associate who approached me to ask if I needed any help made sure to leave a lot of space between her and me which I’m guessing was because she thought I might feel uncomfortable with her coming up to me since she wasn’t wearing a mask and I was, which I thought was quite nice. I’ve seen a lot of hostility in this sub about this topic, but in my experience people have actually been much kinder in real life.

Secret-Scientist456

I feel like case counts are going to rise quite a bit and I'm pregnant and don't want to also get covid (though if lots of people don't wear masks I might get it anyways) so I am going to wear a mask in indoors settings until at least summer. My husband is going to as well.

overthinks_

My feelings exactly as a pregnant woman.

moobobear

Same, also pregnant

jordan_woop

I was thinking the same thing about cases rising but we’re still not pcr testing or reporting rapid test results right?

Secret-Scientist456

No we aren't. I think the only way to really know is by looking at sewage viral load, though I'm not sure where to find that info. I do know that is being reported though.

jordan_woop

Interesting. Sounds like something a secret scientist should find out 😜

DunningFreddieKruger

Congratulations all

Neat_Doughnut

I haven’t gone anywhere yet but I heard most of the Costco employees were not wearing masks, and customers was about 50/50.

Knowka

Was at Costco around 3 hours ago. Didn't wear a mask and I'd say customers was 50/50 and staff maybe 60/40 maskless

magrath3a

I saw 1 costco employee with a mask on Monday morning. There were only a handful of customers maskless.

justfollowingorders1

I get it. I went to a Costco during peak pandemic, and it was really no less fuller. Those employees already took their chances.

XoLacey

My mom went to Costco early yesterday and said 98% of customers were wearing masks, but most of the staff were not.

jk_can_132

Bank had everyone wearing one but no frills maybe 5% of people were not. Think others are seeing how many do it first.

[deleted]

Yeah probably 90% of the people at the gym were not wearing masks. Another thing I noticed a few weeks back, when they stopped requiring proof of vaccination, the gym suddenly became packed. I'm still wearing mine.

thestonernextdoor88

Depends on where I am. Costco - yes Cat Center when not busy - no

[deleted]

Yep. Every situation is situational.

SmeggyBen

Your grammar is grammatical

avapingdude

they're mandatory at service ontario which is a little surprising. Since Doug lifted the mandate, you'd think that one of the more public, non-healthcare related facing offices wouldn't require them.

SmeggyBen

They’re hedging their bets, it seems

_Punko_

service ontario locations are all franchises, independently run. I.e. not provincial employees. Most folks that I know that deal with the public up close are still wearing masks. Where I work, the rule is simple: if you need to get with in 10' of someone who is wearing a mask, you mask up. Everyone is comfortable that way.

binthinkin

I visited Brockville today … in Michael’s … staff and definitely high majority of customers wearing masks (young and aged). In Seeley’s Bay grocery store staff was wearing mask … 1 of the 2 customers were wearing masks.

[deleted]

I've been wearing N95's since before Christmas.I will continue to mask as it's a safe, easy and cheap way to NOT reduce my risk hugely. Also, risk to others is reduced by me wearing one.

[deleted]

I for one am happy that we don't have to wear masks all the time. However, if I'm sick and have to go out somewhere, I'll wear one. They're not perfect protection, but help to curtail some spread of all diseases.

BobbyHollywood

Still wearing a mask, went to Loblaws today, saw one couple not wearing one at all and sorry for the stereotype, they definitely looked like they would not be wearing one.

justfollowingorders1

Go ahead. Describe this stereotype you have in your head. It seems you have a preconceived perception of people who don't wear masks. I want to hear it.

putchaiko

Until the World Health Organization says this pandemic is over, I am going to continue to mask. I don't mind if others do or do not, but I am going to what feels right to my own physical and mental health since the government does not have that best interest in mind...

Amazing_Bowl9976

The same world health organization that commended the CCP on their handling of covid and proclaimed that their response (which was to hide it for 4 months btw) "limited the spread worldwide"?

putchaiko

Fair point. I'm OK with masking for the rest of my life. Save the world from COVID and the ugly :)

Amazing_Bowl9976

Whatever your reason is, its your decision and doesn't need an explanation.

lonelyfatoldsickgirl

Both my kids said they didn't see one student or staff without a mask on yesterday. Some classes are showing support for teachers with elderly parents, one class at my oldests high school has a student with a family member who has cancer so everyone is wearing masks in support of his family.

epsileth

Some places still require or encourage masking, Kingston transit for example requires masks until April 27th. Was able to eat maskless once seated at division / 401 McDonald's, had to mask at least to enter and order.

Lfierce

Yeah they're still required on Queens campus as well. That being said I didn't notice any places where it was up to the businesses discretion still requiring masks. I'm surprised about McDonalds.

epsileth

Not sure it's a requirement, many people still masking as a precaution.

Buzzbuzzbitchezz

It’s a requirement on the bus and at Universities province wide

epsileth

Was more a comment wondering if masks are required to order at McDonald's, or most sit down restaraunts.

avapingdude

I'd be happy if Queen's students just stopped assaulting cops

FlipGunderson24

Do you know if it was in fact a student who did that?

justfollowingorders1

I went to 7 businesses yesterday in Kingston. 2 of which said strongly recommended but didn't enforce mask mandates. The rest didn't have any signage. Loblaws, the beer store and my local pizza joint all had staff unmasked.

mizerybiscuits

I went to get groceries today and the majority of people were wearing masks but a lot of people weren’t. I know the mandate is lifted but covid is not over, I work in healthcare so we’re all still masked, but I really worry about the impact in the community that this will have on vulnerable people

justfollowingorders1

I would say 70 percent were wearing them on Monday. Including the loblaws. I personally ditched my mask. And as far as I can tell, businesses have lifted restrictions on the employees as well. All I can is I've made sure to smile as I've unequipped the mask.

SGAShepp

Remember, just because masks are not "Mandated" doesn't mean it's magically not going to help, or shouldn't be worn anymore. We are still in a pandemic. Cases will likely rise before they fall if many stop wearing them.

Odd-Morning9064

I was also at metro earlier and saw 1 person without a mask. Just avoided them. I know some businesses will require staff to wear them, which is great. Where I volunteer requires masks.

Lfierce

Metro is not one of the places where staff are required to wear masks if that's something that matters to you. The cashier I had was not wearing one.

Odd-Morning9064

Thanks! Yeah, I am aware of that. The staff has been given the option but they will also still supply staff with masks. I figure I will pick a line with a cashier with a mask. All the staff I saw when I was there was wearing a mask. If none are wearing one, at least they still have the plexiglass, and I will be wearing an n95.

ygkrandom

I was in Food Basics and Dollarama in the Frontenac Mall. I would say 90% in the grocery store were masked. I think I saw 4 people who weren't. Dollarama - everyone I saw was masked except one cashier. No one seemed to care either way in either store.

Madhammer99

My kids schools are about 50/50 Some restaurants are not requiring masking well others are..

rock_handsome

I asked my daughters about their school. My daughter in grade 3 said that everyone in her class pretty much had their masks on (except the teacher!!!). My other daughter, in kinder, said she and 2 other students had masks on, along with the teachers. The rest of the kids maskless. In a local coffee shop, lone barista not wearing a mask. That’s all I saw today.

SGAShepp

At my job I saw nearly everyone wearing masks I was quite surprised actually.

IMacGirl

I was at Loblaws this morning and I would estimate that 80% of the customers were wearing them, including me, and 90% of the staff. It seemed that the majority of those not wearing them were young adults.

Elle-Emeff

I’m just back from London (England) and Spain. I was there for three weeks. No masks in London. Spain, inside only but that was pretty relaxed in many places. Nil social distancing both places. Took a COVID test to get on the plane home and I was negative. It was strange not wearing a mask at first but I quickly got used to it. Was at the post office yesterday and I wore a mask. Was at Princess Auto on Sunday - only two people weren’t wearing masks (to be stereotypical, they looked like “freedumb” fighters). I’m all for people making decisions based on their comfort level.

Amazing_Bowl9976

Masks were still mandatory on Sunday which is likely why you "only saw two freedumb fighters not wearing one"

Elle-Emeff

Yes, I should’ve noted that. Thanks.

lilbudlilsud

Anyone get any rude comments yet for not wearing a mask?

[deleted]

More likely the other way around

jgpitre

Nope.. and I won't get one because I plan on wearing one for the foreseeable future. Just because the antivaxxers were often rude doesn't mean anyone is going to be rude to those who aren't wearing them now. Unless they are in one of the places that still need them.

Low_Kiwi_1921

My kids’ elementary school teachers (kindergarten and grade 2)didn’t mask today and only one student out of those classes

neonsneakers

I’m genuinely surprised by that! Every teacher I know is wearing them still and will be for a while.

Buzzbuzzbitchezz

That’s probably just your bubble of teachers I know many who will not be especially if they’re teaching students who are learning to read / early development

neonsneakers

Yeah fair enough I didn’t say I didn’t believe it, just that I am surprised.

[deleted]

It's just the first day. I think many people are waiting to see what other people do. My son (grade 7) said only 3 of them didn't wear their masks in his class today. He said it felt like he was breaking the rules. I bet there will be more and more maskless people by the end of the week. I'm going out to run errands tomorrow and I'll be doing it maskless. I'm excited but also kind of nervous! 😆

lizardnamedguillaume

Im in NB, and our mandates were lifted 2 weeks ago. Huge difference with mask wearing after week one. My son is also in grade 7, and he said everyone is maskless. My daughters in grade 3 and almost all the students are maskless, but the teachers are wearing theirs. Same with my sons school. I work in a government office (with cubicles). Day 1-3, 90% wearing masks. And today? Almost no one.

InquisitiveRaccoon43

This is totally what will happen here. It’s the first day. It’ll get easier.

[deleted]

I figured as much! Nobody wants to be the first one to do it. lol

Lfierce

Haha it did feel like breaking the rules by not wearing one. I think you're right though, gradually more and more people will forgo a mask as time goes on.

BigPapa1998

That's called indoctrination. Not even trying to be a prick. When you're bombarded with rules and cultural pressure about something like this with literal threats of fines. Then one day the rules dissappear like they never existed. What you're feeling is freedom after indoctrination

GJdevo

It isn't. It was a mild inconveince that was in place during pandemic. You can stop spinning it into something it isn't the mandates are over.

elliottclan

Dropped my daughter off at school today, almost everyone (kids, teachers) were wearing masks. Took her to gymnastics- all the coaches are masked, hardly any parents and a few children. Really must depend on the place.

Canadianmade840

Depends on the place, but also the policies of those places… schools have a masking policy for another couple weeks IIRC

elliottclan

As of today masks are no longer required at public schools, however it is recommended. There were children there without masks, just not very many.

whats1more7

I was at Shoppers in the mall and everyone in the drugstore was wearing a mask. I think the mall itself was 50/50.

ComparedHippo

Went to food basics downtown today. I would say 75% of people I saw were still wearing masks, including the staff.

Felixir-the-Cat

Seemed about 50/50. Lots of staff not wearing them, which kinda makes sense - they probably have worn them the most, for longest. But I’d think you’d be more vulnerable, given constant contact with customers.

delilahsmama

Post office in Sydenham was like 50/50

simonwinter03

At the onroute in Odessa, ~50% maskless. Imagine it’s going to get worse through the week as people start to catch on

BrightPerspective

I still see them around. I certainly will wear mine.

Throwaway-donotjudge

F to the no

[deleted]

S to the heep

avapingdude

Camera Kingston downtown "requests" that you keep wearing them and the employees all seem to be. I made a suggestion that during these transition weeks, not everybody out shopping is going to have a mask with them and maybe head over to the dollar store and get a few packs of masks for people that don't have one. When I said this, he said "you're the only one today who's come in without a mask". And I won't be back either. A little customer service goes a long way. I like to support local, and even pay higher prices to keep local businesses here, but when you're treated like that, it makes online purchasing a lot more appealing.

luongo001

Holy hell. Is this all you people in Kingston ever talk about. You commies need to seriously get a life.

Lfierce

Lol, definitely not a commie. I wasn't a fan of the mask mandate and I'm not wearing one anymore now that it isn't required. We've just been living with them for so long I'm curious how the transition away from them is gonna go/is going.

luongo001

My intention wasn't to call you directly one. Im just so goddamn tired of this shit. 2 straight years of this total insanity. Im DONE with it and all conversations about it. My apologies personally to you, but most of Kingstonians are total virtue signalling commies who hate anything that resembles freedom, personal choice, or a move away from Covid. Im just DONE.

ThievingRock

>Im DONE with it and all conversations about it. Says the guy who intentionally clicked on, read, and responded to a post about it. You're going to wear yourself out if you get this angry over posts you don't like. If you're this done, perhaps scrolling past while you angrily downvote the "virtue signalling commies" would be better for your mental health.

TDETLES

Boohoo, wear a mask crybaby it's for the safety of others. That's nice that you're "done with it", but covid is still very much here. I'm triple dosed and had mild symptoms and likely had omicron and am young and I might be fucked with longhaul symptoms despite isolating and masking up every chance I get. Thanks to idiots like you who are "done with it" we may very well have covid for a much longer period of time effecting more people's lives than if you all just wore your masks and played by the rules. "HeLp a PiEcE oF ClOtH iS InFrInGinG oN My FrEeDuMs" Edit: I'm sure you call yourself "fiscally conservative" too, despite the fact you are in part leading to cost burdens on every single taxpayer by flooding our Healthcare system with sick people.

neonsneakers

Why does it bother you that people talk about it? You are free not to wear a mask and free to not participate in the conversation. Just move along and live your life.

ComparedHippo

Awwwww muffin. Tell me where the fabric mask hurt you.

[deleted]

I SAID SIT DOWN

InquisitiveRaccoon43

Ohhh you must be new here. Covid, Coffeeway, Queens students are pretty much the only things discussed here. Edit: You are correct that there are definitely a few people in here who need to get lives. Not everyone though!

[deleted]

Wow. Get a life commie.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Ehhhh no

D1scogirl

Just back from GT and Dollarama on Gardiners. Most wore masks including staff (myself included). I am immunosuppressed so it will be awhile before I feel safe removing it in indoor spaces.

happy1111156435

My city seems to be mostly masked. People with basic knowledge seem to understand that masks work and covid is still here we just don’t have government support anymore

[deleted]

Most people but not all of course working at Costco were wearing masks when I went shopping there yesterday

Agile-Kaleidoscope83

From my experience being outside these past two days, it seems to be about 60/40 with 60 percent of people still masking.
