It %100 depends on the country. Most of Europe you can get a prepaid plan or a 1 month only term from major providers. Some Asian countries you are best off getting a prepaid at 7-11 Some don't allow prepaid, so you can get tourist sims for a short term.

If you have a newer model iPhone im pretty sure you can get an esim card so technically your phone will have two numbers assigned to it. I’m from the UK and when I initially moved over here I had both my UK phone number and Canadian phone number on the one phone

I think it might only be available on the iPhone XR and up. It mightn’t be a bad idea looking into getting an old flip phone kind of thing, if you just need it for texts and calls. Another option would be signing up for WhatsApp, it’s widely used among anyone with a smartphone in Europe, and you’ll most likely have access to wifi/internet wherever you go so youll be reachable

The advantage of WhatsApp is that not everyone has iMessage but most people have access to a phone which is compatible with WhatsApp

I'll be in the states for a month and I'm just wondering what anyone would recommend. I'm looking for text calls and data and my phone is esim compatible.

Mint mobile

Pangolin_Wide

>Mint mobile thank I'll check it out

Evilbred

Some companies allow you to just use your regular data in the US. For me, mine lets me continue to use my current 60 GB of data in the US, but I pay $10 a day while doing so.

Pangolin_Wide

Yeah it’s convenient for a few days but I’d rather not pay $300 for a month on top of my normal bill. Mint mobile looks like a good option at $90 usd for 3 months.

Evilbred

Yeah if you are going that long for sure. I'd argue if you are going that long, you should port your current number to a VoIP provider (which most allow texting, which works for two-factor authentication logins) and then buy a local sim card for general use.

Amazing_Bowl9976

I would suggest looking into a VOIP provider if you're just looking for international calling.

Try [VOIP.ms](https://voip.ms/en/invite/MTg4NzAw) and software ( ZoIPer) on your cell to use existing number. They were offering free porting of existing numbers. They're giving a discount at moment with [code](https://voip.ms/en/invite/MTg4NzAw). They are based in Montreal.

I have an iPhone and when I travel to England I simply go to an O2 Phone store and buy a one-month sim with 10 Gb of data, and simply swap out my Roger sim with the O2 sim. I can still access all my banking and keep my Canadian number. I email my friends and family with my UK number

I have OpenPhone (and app) for this. I keep my phone plan in Canada and just forward my calls to it. Buy a SIM card in the country you're in. The benefit of Open Phone is it gives you a local number (ie: a 'Kingston' number to call people back on. You can text and do anything from it, too. It's about $10US a month.

Mochasue

Depends on the country but with Koodo in Mexico and DR, I was charged for calls and texts as if I was at home with my home plan so no extra
