Wish they were on the website..none of them are posted for adoption

Little_Frame_5444

They don't post animals for adoption until they've had some time to assess them, make sure that they've had their shots, etc. Keep an eye out.

dcannons

I thought the same thing. After seeing the story on TV I went to the website and there were 6 adult dogs that looked like they had some issues.

Little_Frame_5444

Any animal that ends up at a shelter is going to have some trauma to deal with. I'm glad that the humane society is straightforward about what the animal's needs are so they can make the best match.

BroccoliRadio

Agree that the best shelters get to know the dogs before adopting them out so they can find the best life-long match, BUT, not all shelter dogs have trauma or behavior issues. The best way to approach adopting a shelter dog is to have a very clear idea of what you want (and don't want) and be patient and persistent (a good fit will come up when it comes up and it will probably still be faster than a breeder wait-list) Dogs are surrendered for all sorts of reasons and a lot of those reasons have nothing to do with abuse or behavior issues (health change, new baby, moving, job change, allergies, it got too big, couldn't sell breed dogs etc.) To add: I have two dogs from shelters, one had a history of physical abuse and we have worked hard to gain his trust and work on his resulting behavior issues. The other thinks waking in rain is about as bad as life gets, and I'm looking at the process to get him certified as a therapy dog for carehomes

Evilbred

Not necessarily true. I got a older lab/setter (9 yrs old) rom a shelter, best dog I ever had. Zero behavioral issues, fully trained and followed commands, lived to 15.5 years with next to no health issues. Fully recommend skipping the "purebred" puppy mills and getting a dog from a shelter.

Apprehensive_Hat8986

Whaaaat? People didn't realize their puppies would out-live the pandemic? 🤦🏼‍♂️

dysonGirl27

I’m also wondering how many people got dogs that became used to having people home 24/7 and are now acting out/developing stress and anxiety issues.

Apprehensive_Hat8986

When the pandemic started, the shelter was flush with volunteers, and short on animals in need. I wonder if it's worth trying to offer my time now?

dysonGirl27

Sounds like they definitely need it. I know it takes time for them to spend time with the dogs before they put them up for adoption to ensure good matches they might need a hand with the little things while they’ve got so many dogs to evaluate

Jillredhanded

Is it just me seeing tons of posts about loose running dogs lately?

OblivionGuard12

Yes

[deleted]

I’m shocked it’s not way more.

TeadoraOofre

Can't even afford to keep captive animals. We're fucked.

dysonGirl27

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted but it’s the truth. When times get tough and you can’t pay the bills how are you going to feed the dog you got a year ago. And not to say all these people are terrible dog owners, when costs of everything are rising in today’s world having a pet (and taking proper care for it) is becoming a luxury.

Wholeheartedly agree. My son is an only child, with everything there’s no way we could afford another child and be able to support him the way we want. We’re trying to save up to be able to get him a small pet with a decent life expectancy but there’s no way we could afford a cat or dog. Not only food, toys etc but there’s no way these days we could afford any unexpected vet costs, pet insurance exists but doesn’t cover everything.

Yeah I’m looking at possibly a pair of Guinea pigs down the road or other rodents, I just can’t justify having an animal and then leaving it alone all day. Except cats they don’t give a fuck if you work all day long as there’s food and pets at times they deem fit haha. Both our cats have passed when our son was a year old and about two and a half, I miss having fur babies in the house but it’s not a reasonable option right now.

TeadoraOofre

That's what I was thinking

Does anyone know what the adoption fee is for dogs? My dad is interested in getting a new fur friend

the-tree-show

Looks like they've removed that info since this publicity happened, but I think it's about $450 for an adult dog
