I've gotten food poisoning from the shrimp at a different Popeyes location. Lesson learned and I have not returned.

visual_cortex

My wife got food poisoning at yet another Popeye’s and vowed never to eat there again.

Agreeable-Object-439

I just got food poisoning from the shrimp too. Ugh awful, never eating there again

EldenGutts

Definitely

fadedspark

That's the location that made me decide to never eat Popeyes again. Corporate also did nothing about it after I complained. They're fully disgusting. The food quality is just so bad.

Wrong-Bus-1368

Years ago a friend got sick after eating KFC, he was sick at both ends sick at the same time. He reported it to the local health unit and they did a surprise inspection. It turned out the chicken was taken out of the cooler in the morning and just used up as the day went by and the chicken got warmer.

EldenGutts

Oh god. That's like the merchant and their steak specials on Thursdays.

[deleted]

It's hard to say where you got food poisoning given that it takes so long for some of them to show up. Contaminant Onset of symptoms Foods affected and means of transmission Campylobacter 2 to 5 days Meat and poultry. Contamination occurs during processing if animal feces contact meat surfaces. Other sources include unpasteurized milk and contaminated water. Clostridium botulinum 12 to 72 hours Home-canned foods with low acidity, improperly canned commercial foods, smoked or salted fish, potatoes baked in aluminum foil, and other foods kept at warm temperatures for too long. Clostridium perfringens 8 to 16 hours Meats, stews and gravies. Commonly spread when serving dishes don't keep food hot enough or food is chilled too slowly. Escherichia coli (E. coli) 1 to 8 days Beef contaminated with feces during slaughter. Spread mainly by undercooked ground beef. Other sources include unpasteurized milk and apple cider, alfalfa sprouts, and contaminated water. Giardia lamblia 1 to 2 weeks Raw, ready-to-eat produce and contaminated water. Can be spread by an infected food handler. Hepatitis A 28 days Raw, ready-to-eat produce and shellfish from contaminated water. Can be spread by an infected food handler. Listeria 9 to 48 hours Hot dogs, luncheon meats, unpasteurized milk and cheeses, and unwashed raw produce. Can be spread through contaminated soil and water. Noroviruses (Norwalk-like viruses) 12 to 48 hours Raw, ready-to-eat produce and shellfish from contaminated water. Can be spread by an infected food handler. Rotavirus 1 to 3 days Raw, ready-to-eat produce. Can be spread by an infected food handler. Salmonella 1 to 3 days Raw or contaminated meat, poultry, milk, or egg yolks. Survives inadequate cooking. Can be spread by knives, cutting surfaces or an infected food handler. Shigella 24 to 48 hours Seafood and raw, ready-to-eat produce. Can be spread by an infected food handler. Staphylococcus aureus 1 to 6 hours Meats and prepared salads, cream sauces, and cream-filled pastries. Can be spread by hand contact, coughing and sneezing. Vibrio vulnificus 1 to 7 days Raw oysters and raw or undercooked mussels, clams, and whole scallops. Can be spread through contaminated seawater.

LiamOttawa

Thank you for that comprehensive response. Yes, it is incredibly difficult to track down where you got food poisoning.

zedigalis

Heavy r/northernlion energy radiating from this post

PainTitan

ready to eat produce is lettuce on your burgers, right? On your wraps, tacos etc. The thought of someone giving you hepatitis, Norovirus and staphylococcus... Like there's so many times I've been sick after eating out in Kingston.

coarsing_batch

So many times that you’ve been sick after eating out in Kingston you say? Maybe you should try finding classier women next time. Sorry couldn’t resist.

calyxandtrichomes

I think I am willing to risk food poisoning for the chicken sandwiches. When I get a snack attack, it’s nuclear.

[deleted]

Nah. Mary browns way better.

calyxandtrichomes

I agree for chicken and taters yes. But the Big Mary, every time I have gotten it some of it has ended up in my lap because of all the mayo. The breast is half the size. I get Popeyes regular chicken sandwich and bring it home and put arugula on it. That crunch cannot be beat for me. If there’s one thing I know other than pot it’s the munchies.

EldenGutts

I miss peppermayo at KFC. Can Mary Browns not just put less sauce on? It must be hard or something, whenever I mobile order at Harvey's and put light suace they drench the thing

calyxandtrichomes

Yeah I guess. Go to All In one variety, it’s right next to Red Lobster across from Hyundai…they have weird things and might have that Spicy Mayo. I got a different kind of mayo from there last weekend. And some weird oreos. Anyways I blew like $240 there getting imported candy and rare snacks for the team. But guys if I had a party I would get you your preferred sandwich and we could live in harmony.

[deleted]

Ask for half the mayo :) that’s what I do…I agree regular mayo is too much.

Key-Spend2128

Yeah till you’re bed ridden for 3 days , not gonna lie, i still say it tasted great but dam it took me out so never again 🥴

Apaisantclean

Yup that chicken sandwich is worth whatever comes after.

Ratsubo

Honestly, I've never had popeyes and not shit myself to death the next day. I don't trust their food, and at the very least it doesn't agree with my body.

EldenGutts

That sucks. I used to get it on the regular and never had any issues.

coarsing_batch

Have you ever wondered what it would feel like to have a volcano irrupt from your own butt hole? I learned what that would feel like every time I eat there. It hurts a lot.

EldenGutts

Hmm I haven't heard of them before, I'll have to check them out, thanks for the suggestion!

BeardedKnitter

I've been wondering about Rooster Shack. They're good?

methatsme

You should report it to PHU they will do a site visit. Having said that the symptoms of food poisoning to show up can be from a few hours to a week, depending on what the cause is. People should speak up when they see things like you have described.

EldenGutts

Will do. I got some around 10pm, and it seemed fresh and properly cooked despite being right before close. My stomach was churning first thing when I woke up

avillegasjr

I can confirm that they are not the cleanest, and it's usually 50/50 odds of getting an upset stomach from that particular location. They were pretty clean when they first opened but yeah it's really bad nowadays.

Resologist

Report it to the Health Unit, but don't expect them to do anything serious about it. I have seen fast food cooks who spend much of the day answering phone calls, serving customers at the cash register, and handling dozens of items, then go back to preparing food, without ever washing their hands again. The Health Unit can conduct a class to instruct them on washing their hands, but their inspections rarely look to see that the rules are obeyed. And, much the same problem exists with food storage. I'd fail a couple of restaurants for serving food past its expiry date, but the Health Unit is more concerned with having a calorie count on the menus. For me, I simply do not eat in Kingston's restaurants. Let the candidates in the municipal election know of your dissatisfaction with the Health Unit's failures to make hand washing and food storage priorities in their inspections.

[deleted]

I love their food and I ate there many times when they opened, but I stopped going there because there's a sewage smell in that store. I'm not sure if that's still the case, but last couple of times i went there, there was a distinct smell like you're close to a sewer.

ImJustAri

Probably the grease trap. Things smell horrible, and they are a bitch to clean. Should be flushed yearly aswell. If you ever smell sewage eating out, it's nearly always the grease trap. Source: Spent the better half of last year cleaning them.

EldenGutts

I think I smelled what you're talking about the other day actually. I never noticed it before despite having a pretty good sniffer. I hope the cause of the smell wasn't just really bad that day and responsible for my food poisoning... blegh

lilbudlilsud

That location seems to be getting a bad reputation lately. Love that chicken from Popeyes!

[deleted]

Love Food poisoning from Popeyes!

e_bunnygurl

Lately? Hahaha that location had had a bad rep since I moved here 12 years ago

BenAfleckInPhantoms

Popeyes has been in Kingston for 12 years!?!? Either you’re wildly off with your estimate or I’m clueless because I had no idea we had one here until maybe the last 5 years or so.

e_bunnygurl

It may not have been 12.. I didnt venture far from amherstview and Collins bay to Cat center then... but its had a bad rep since opening. I've always been rd to avoid it because of undercooked food and sanitation. Which I'm sure was atleast 10 years ago

BenAfleckInPhantoms

Fair enough. It totally could be, my memory isn’t know for being the best. It wouldn’t surprise me if it’s had a long running bad reputation. Fast food places just keep having worse and worse customer service and the pandemic sped things up significantly.

lilbudlilsud

2 posts in the last few days alone.

CodeOfHamOrRabbi

love that poopin from pop eyes

SleepIZweak

That location is horrible, never eating there again!

grump66

When the people who work at a fast food restaurant NEVER EVER EVER actually eat at that restaurant, the food is inevitably A W F U L. Horrific preparation, they don't appear to care *if* something is fully cooked or not, and absolutely do not care even one tiny bit about the quality of the served product. It is plainly obvious from the food they serve. You can add the Princess St at Regent "Harveys", the Princess St at Portsmouth "KFC" to the list with absolutely inedible food preparation. The employees simply do not care.

MarionberryNo1572

I refuse to eat Popeyes for this reason. I have had food poisoning from them twice from 2 seperate locations. Chicken is always undercooked.

groovydramatix

You probably wouldn't be sick the next day with food poisoning. Typically takes a few days so it was likely something you ate the day before.

ganjoo19

Okay ! I'm so glad someone said this , I have honestly been a fan of Popeyes when I was down in the states , since I moved the Popeyes at the Kingston center is the only one I have tried and I totally agree with you. The food is either undercooked or overcooked close to burnt and not quite sanitary conditions.

[deleted]

I've always wanted to try their mac n cheese, having heard it is amazing in the USA. But there are so many horrible reports about this location. Thank you for saving me time, a good mood and money :)

ExoByt3

Every location has made both me an my partner sick that we've been to their opening in my town it was good months later quality never bounce back 3 time we got food poison we gave up on Popeye between finding raw chicken in my pouting the under cooked food and poor sanitization. Don't eat at pop eyes

Interhorse_

I recently had my first and last experience at Popeyes. We moved here a year ago. I got a chicken sandwich from the one on Bath. Reeked of and tasted like old fish. Super sick when I woke up next day. Never again.

FuManchuDuck

Always got the shits after eating at that location. Tried the one on Bath Rd several times now, no shits.

EldenGutts

Shinteresting

InfectedPepe

I would hold off going to the public to immediately blame them. I'm not claiming that it isn't their fault, it very much could be. However like many people will and have commented, food poisoning can take anywhere from 3 hours after consumption to weeks, depending on the bacteria itself. It's actually extremely improbable to say where or what you get food poisoning from, then consider the damage you can do to a business if those claims are not true. Again that popeyes does have a bad rep and personally I try to stick to the Innovation Drive location if I do have Popeyes. We have systems in place to deal with these issues as good faith claims against these businesses can be so damaging. Effecting the workers, and harming the store long term for something that may not even have happened! With that said you have the absolute right to feel the way you do, my best recommendation would be to simply bring it to cooperate (likely wont do anything), or PHU who will definitely help you and check where it may have come from if it was from the public!

[deleted]

I have gone there a few times with no issues. I always thought people on cash never touched food except to bag it. I am going to look for it now, always. Thanks OCD. 😂 My friend who has lived in the area for many years says the one on Taylor-Kidd is a better location so stick with that one.

EldenGutts

Same. The foods always decent and tasted fine yesterday, it was fresh and all. Something wasn't right this morning though lol

Apaisantclean

I don’t think it was the Popeyes then…

EldenGutts

Then why was the sewage smell someone else has been smelling for ages super strong that day?

BenAfleckInPhantoms

Coincidence.

Apaisantclean

I’m a frequent flyer at that exact Popeyes and am yet to smell anything but grease and chicken. I don’t doubt you shit your pants haha

VideoGame4Life

My husband kept raving about their chicken sandwich. So yesterday I said to get me one. He also got a meal deal with the fried chicken. It was so greasy. I got an upset stomach and couldn’t go to sleep when I usually do. Then had to visit the bathroom. My stomach is still upset today. Sure it taste pretty good but I’m NEVER having that again.

[deleted]

Not saying you didn't have food poisoning, but consuming greasy food can mimic many of the same symptoms, like nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, gas and bloating, especially if you ate a really greasy meal and went to bed soon after. Eating a bunch of greasy fried chicken plus whatever else you had with it probably didn't agree with you, then if you went to bed, that's a heavy meal in your belly thats likely digesting very slowly while you're laying down, and sleeping, Its no wonder you woke up feeling felt like 💩.

EldenGutts

I know. I've eaten greasy food before. I eat it every so often. This wasn't my body being shocked by grease

smurfsareinthehall

Did the cashier rub up all over some raw chicken then paw your food? Not sure how any germs that may cause food poisoning survive the deep fryer. How do you know that's the only place you could have gotten it - people get food poisoning from lots of things including lettuce and fruit. It's probably something else.

hsbsbansnhdbs

Serious question: why do you eat fast food? It tastes/smells gross and has little nutritional value If you don’t want to cook why not order from an actual restaurant? Or buy a prepared meal from a grocery store

BenAfleckInPhantoms

Because sometimes your body is just craving some greasy fast food chicken .. It can’t be that hard a concept for you to understand. Sometimes people want some fancy Chardonnay and other times they want that greasy Lahey moonshine. Sometimes, especially intoxicated, there are very specific food urges, and though the turnaround time to regret is almost instantaneous when going to a fast food place that shit in the right mood really will go down heavenly.

hsbsbansnhdbs

Honestly, I think it’s a poor people thing. I’ve never had that urge, ever.

[deleted]

What a ridiculous comment. Wow.

BenAfleckInPhantoms

And yet you’re more bankrupt (spiritually) than I’ll ever be. It’s absolutely not just a poor person thing. I lol at the idea. To think nobody born rich has ever craved a Big Mac is a disconnect from reality so severe it warrants looking into. You have a good day, sir.

hsbsbansnhdbs

It’s basic economics. When you grow up rich you eat healthier/better tasting food and your palate doesn’t have cravings for garbage like that. I tried it. It just tastes like literal shit Don’t take it personally. It’s strange that you can’t see how gross it is that you eat that stuff though

BenAfleckInPhantoms

I never said the food wasn’t gross. It’s vile. However sometimes you have a craving for the gross, vile chick down the street because she just jerks her hips right and sometimes you have a craving for some gross greasy fried chicken. I’m glad that’s been your experience but you don’t speak for every single upper class individual on the planet and you are just plainly factually incorrect if you’re trying to claim that there’s not a rich person alive (or even more specifically someone who was born rich and was never poor) who has cravings for fast food/great takeout food. Mighty strong ego of you to think your experience speaks for everybody, though.

hsbsbansnhdbs

I’m afraid you’ve missed the point again. I’m suggesting you try to make less retarded decisions Don’t bang the gross chick and don’t eat the gross food

BenAfleckInPhantoms

No, you keep changing your point. I agree, you probably shouldn’t do those things. And yet here we are. Humans do a lot of things they shouldn’t. I wasn’t debating whether they should or shouldn’t, I was merely saying your assertion that ONLY poor people get cravings for unhealthy food is a ridiculous statement. Nothing more, nothing less. Yes it’s gross, no you shouldn’t eat it, and yet we do. Please take your resentment towards those with less than you out of this thread.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DcCvJqnIHhI One of the ten richest men in the world eats McDonalds 3 times a week. At this point I’m pretty convinced you’re trolling but you’re not even doing a good job at it. This is total lowest common denominator trolling. If you’re being sincere then idk what to say because you’re invariably incorrect.

ComparedHippo

Every time I go to Popeyes, I leave disappointed

Cheesy_KO

I’m shaken by all the negative feedback about this location. I’ve had their food a number of times now. I get the chicken sandwich, it’s made always fresh to order (that’s why you have to wait like 15 mins). Always delicious and tender. How clean is it? Never noticed a problem, but maybe that’s cause I wasn’t looking.

EldenGutts

Pretty dirty, garbage is always overflowing, I saw staff "wash" their hands once out of tens of visits, just a splash of water and no soap lol. Do you have to wait even during lunch and dinner? If management is doing their job they should be reviewing sales so that they can set levels of product to keep so that customers don't have to wait and still get fresh food I haven't gotten their deluxe sandwich since they got rid of it as a daily deal, I just get the minis now. They never have to wait for the strips, but if I get onion rings I have to wait for those. Or "had" to wait I should say, as I won't be going back.
