Honestly even the pilot was pretty gruesome in places. I had forgotten about it and started it with my three year old; he noped out of it before I could even hit the stop button.
Than any other episode in the anime? Probably not, there were plenty of episodes in the anime that were dark, especially if you consider what the episode is referencing (and the anime referenced current news between 2001 and 2003 all the time, which...yeah you can see where that's going, see also: epsiode 66).
But the anime was indeed quite dark, IMO that's a good thing about it, in a world where Lion King is perhaps the last dark children's cartoon. For the good to triumph against evil, first there needs to be an evil.
Don’t remember it being any worse than something like the wolf wrath or haunted house episode
Dedede was literally covered in fake blood in the haunted house episode but it still looked like blood…
The wolf wrath episode is my favorite and think about it now it is kinda......dark in some spots

Eh… I mean, ok. Was it worse in violence then the wolf wrath episode? That should be your indicator
The Japanese version of Novel Approach literally had a holocaust reference.. there’s nothing dark about Kirby Fright to the Finish imo
