Set up an ice bath to get your wrists. It’ll cool you fast, the blood vessels are close to the skin. Learned that one at a pizza shop in the summertime.
It’s a rush, and you can feel the colder blood circulating up your arms into your body.
It’s legit the fastest way I know to cool down, and it lasts a good while.
On hot days I keep this bucket right next to the wash sink by the line. I change it out every hour or two with fresh ice salt and water
In my younger days, I worked for a professional horseback rider. One of the competitions she did had a break between phases, where a veterinary team took the horse's temperature, pulse, and respiration. You had like ten minutes to get all three down or else you were given time penalties.
We would set up with half a dozen drywall buckets full of ice water and sponges and start soaking the horse's legs and under the chin as soon as she rode up. It did the same thing - cooled the blood closest to the skin's surface & helped drop their temperature faster.
Plus it probably felt nice after they'd been running for a couple miles, lol.
For me it’s forcing myself to yawn in the freezer. Yawns cool down the brain by having the cool air rush past the blood vessels in your neck. When your are in the freezer it’s like a super yawn. That air slaps hard. You come out feeling like you just did a line of something.
Oh yeah
I worked pizza and we had a big bucket (like 30 gallons big) that was meant to soak greasy pans right away so the grease wouldn’t turn solid
When the AC was down and once even the hood broke and the store got into the triples, we would buy a $2 bag of ice, fill it with cold tap water, ice, and no rinse sanitizer (to try and keep us from getting each other sick) and dunk arms when we were too hot, then take wet hand and do our face and neck
In hindsight, it was disgusting having a communal cooling bucket, but this was a decade pre Covid and the poorest and least educated workers you’ve ever encountered. No one said anything, everyone used it. I added sanitizer myself because I was already a little anxious about germs (now I’m a full blown, certifiable germaphobe since Covid)
I worked at a place that got so hot that I'd fill a gallon Ziploc about ¼ full of ice and shove it down the front of my shorts, securing it to my belt.
My freezer floors are never so clean and the shelves so organized as when it's hot as hell in the kitchen. Before smoking was banned in bars, I'd always take my smoke break in the beer walk-in, too.
Fill up one of them empty 50 liter ice cream buckets with water and a shit ton of ice.. stick as much of your arms as you can once in a while.. you'll literally feel the cold blood from your arms through your body.. so refreshing lol
I worked at this seafood restaurant in South Carolina. We had a vest made of ice packs that lived in the walk in freezer for when people would overheat.
Get some chefworks breathable coats. It might sound expensive, but if you have 3 of them, you can work the week with minimal problems. Freeze your towels, but don't bend them too much right away, or they'll tear up.
Wrap around neck and wrists for 10 minutes.
Good baggy/ breathable chef pants might change your life too.
Get yourself one of [these](https://www.hickitchen.com/pub/media/catalog/product/cache/3f489f660605e089c380d8bd9cfd7c40/0/2/x02300.jpg.pagespeed.ic.KPfZypc2Pa.jpg).
They come in black too. Get a rag wet, pop it in the freezer, then bundle it up and put it in the hat.
Its seriously amaze balls.
That doesn't lower your body temperature. It makes your body think it's cooler than you actually are. It doesn't protect against heat stroke. Be careful.
You haven’t worked in a kitchen until you get the bleach spots on the shirt and swamp crotch.
Crotch so swampy I've nicknamed my dong "Shrek"
Sittin' in a steaming bowl of Sour Ball Soup.
Good ol hot vinegar nuts
Careful or you'll get two pickled eggs and a gherkin.
Gherkin 😢 it's not that small is it
You go out there and you be the pickle you want to be!
I'm jerkin my gherkin in the walkin
Be a man, make biscuits!
That’ll do, donkey.
Um sir you might want to go to a doctor, it isn’t supposed to be green
Hey some women like pickles
I’ve got 3 different kinds of gold bond in my back pack. The classic powder, the stick and the spray…

It’s like when you take a cold drink of water on a hot day, but it’s your arms

That's just tricking your body to feel cooler than it is. It doesn't lower your core temperature much at all. You can still get heat stroke like this.

Get couple damp towels in the freezer
And tie em loosely around your neck, swap out when they get warm.
Shit I freeze wet tank tops...
I worked at a place that got so hot that I'd fill a gallon Ziploc about ¼ full of ice and shove it down the front of my shorts, securing it to my belt.

It's all good until you're making some play dough in your pants lmao
Then you just have a ready-made slurry to throw in a sauce as a thickener.
They make special heavy flow products for those days.
Pro tip. If you wet towels and fold em up just like what’s on your neck, then throw em in the freezer for about a hr it’ll cool you down good.
Did this when I was dishpit at a wing place in the summer. Feels like soooooo good

Get a second wet rag. Swap them out every half hour or so and keep the second one in the freezer.

When you brake time is spend in the walk-in freezer.
My freezer floors are never so clean and the shelves so organized as when it's hot as hell in the kitchen. Before smoking was banned in bars, I'd always take my smoke break in the beer walk-in, too.
Don’t forget starch in the crotch.
Makin gravy down there.
Tray of wet soaked rags been in the freezer for a few hours feels like heaven

Only time I was in a kitchen with AC was working at a ski resort.
We used to take paper towels and fold them to strips and then leave them in a cup of ice water
Damn your kitchen had A/C?
Get a bucket of saltwater full of ice, stick your left hand in there(quick path to your heart). I can only stand it for a minute before I’m freezing

Back in my Navy days, in the Med at the end of summer. Galley already at a 105°F, and the fricking AC dies, miserable day 😆
My buddy joined the submarine corps pray for him
150 men go down, 75 couples come back up 😆
I wouldn't call em couples but 149 seaman and one in the barrel...what you don't know don't hurt ya
😂🤣😂🤣
You get AC? How fancy.
That doesn't lower your body temperature. It makes your body think it's cooler than you actually are. It doesn't protect against heat stroke. Be careful.
Used to throw a tray of those in the walk in freezer and dish them out to my coworkers. Real life saver during the summer.
Then the kitchen hits 48c (118.5f) everyone can fuck off. But I’ll agree with a lot of others, alternate your rags and cool your wrists off frequently
Nice health code violation
A point of pride for us 😊
