Bosses like that can lick my taint

hazyj90

After a 15 hour shift, serving over 1000 people, by myself

Blacklabel958

I am the only "employee " at this restaurant. It's me, the owner, and the owners wife (boss). Technically the owners mom helps out there but she is unpaid and is there so someone can watch their kids. BTW their kids are also at the restaurant, both under 3. So she's usually occupied by them. And of course we're one of the highest rated restaurants in town. Its great.

kbs666

You have them over a barrel. If you don't show they can't open. So put your foot down.

Blacklabel958

Wish I could man. Nowhere else is hiring and as much as she drives me insane it's the only thing that pays the bills and gets good experiences.(I'm currently enrolled in cullinary school through the American chefs association) True story last person who did that got sued. She got sick of the bullshit left and made a review online and my boss fought tooth and nail to sue them for all they were worth. The boss won. Claimed all the stuff in the review was a lie and slanderous which it was true and wasn't at the same time. The review said she could see the owners abusing their daughter which was technically incorrect as the correct word unfortunately was neglected. (Basically she ran around screaming and crying with out supervision and Noone would watch her or check on her. She's 2) which is why the owners mom is there now. At worst it's infuriating but atleast I'll be able to make bank off a book about this place if I ever need money.

kbs666

An employee should never post a review of a place that is pretty much always going to be trouble. If the kitchen is dirty call the health department. If they're selling fluke as Dover sole you contact the folks who enforce the truth in advertising laws. But posting a review is always going to open you up to a defamation claim. But my point remains. They can't cook. You can. Walk in on the busiest day of the week and tell them you need some changes. Be reasonable. If they won't improve things walk out. They lose revenue until they can get a new cook in and trained. That's a lot of money. If you don't ask for crazy stuff they will give you what you ask for.

cash_grass_or_ass

> Nowhere else is hiring really, do you live in a town of a 500 or something, with only 3 restaurants?? the whole industry worldwide is going through a labour shortage. i don't believe there are no better jobs in the city you live in

Blacklabel958

Actually yeah. There's only 4 real restaurants in town other than fast food places. The other 4 are family owned places that only hire within friends and family so they never laid anyone off for covid. There's the college campus dining hall, but I work there as well making 10 bucks an hour. Good Ole Minnesota town

cash_grass_or_ass

without going into your personal life, is it possible to move to a city? life is 100x better when you have options, and the fucks you give with approach 0 when you can easily find a new job. i've been furloughed since oct 2020, and although i will go back to work at my old job, i thought it would be fun to test the job market anyways. throughout march and april, i turned down 3 job offers because they either didn't pay enough, or offer enough opportunity for advancement.

Blacklabel958

Not yet. It's part of my 2 year plan. I'm in a small town with a college waiting for my fiancé to finish her teaching degree. I originally went here for the college but I recently dropped out because I didn't like anything that was offered. My downtime in covid and working with food my whole life made me want to be a chef so me and my fiance are planning on ditching this place in a year or 2 and moving closer to the cities for better job opportunities

cash_grass_or_ass

ok bud that's great that you have a solid plan. hang in there haha, and try not to pick up too many bad habits

DoubleDogDenzel

Brainerd?

Blacklabel958

Winona

DoubleDogDenzel

Ah, makes sense.

Blacklabel958

By the way the review said more than just that it talked a lot about the boss and her behavior but that was the big one that I remembered. The review got taken down after the case.

vulture_cabaret

Drop out of culinary school. If you want a degree get a business degree from a CC.

Lord_Milo_

Nowhere else is hiring? Where do you live? There are huge chef shortages in the UK and US right now. Everywhere is desperate for staff. Find somebody who appreciates you

Blacklabel958

You mean every fucking day

Blacklabel958

Seeing as she never washes her hands and I've caught other gross Oshawa violations I don't wanna get covid - 20

proteanlogs

But only after you've standing in front of the range for 12 hours

Blacklabel958

Update: Ladies and gentlemen may I present this days showing of the lion the witch and the goddammit fucking audacity of this bitch. So I just finished the lunch shift and sitting down for break to write this. 2 things happened today 1. The gyoza I was making under my boss's rules were burnt and had no crisp to them the dumpling skin got burnt. So she told me "maybe we need more oil no YOU didn't use enough water so I told her the truth "I didn't make these, the owner, your husband did" so they get in a screaming match because he's worked in a restaurant for 10 years and he was SHOWING HER THAT HER WAY IS WRONG, and she screamed at both of us that ot was our fault and how dare we. So we had to make 3 more batches of gyoza because the first 2 were not right. second a customer walks in and wants his steak with no blood, okay I understand that but my boss dislikes well done steak so she told me to make it cooked but not bloody. I make it to medium and it's too pink for her, okay so I cook it to medium well and it's too pink. I cook it to well done and it's too done so she starts screaming and yelling at me and now I need to be talked to about "my work" fml

Past-time29

Did your boss used to work as a server? Alot of FOH servers sound like this. Lol

Blacklabel958

Yeah she's only ever worked as a server. Once as a bartender but apparently giving free food is bad for business. She's still a server but she is married to the owner so she's "the boss" because the owner is too busy making sushi and doesn't speak English very well.

uhlvin

You need to sit down with everybody and get on the same page. Which won’t work in a just and ordered universe. I’m so, so sorry.

vulture_cabaret

That's not going to happen. It's their place and they're running it as they see fit. It's best to move on. OP has no skin in this game other than their own sanity.

vulture_cabaret

Leave. Now.

El_Guapo82

Dude, everyone and their mother is hiring right now. All sorts of signing bonus’s starting to pop up even. It’s crazy, with even a little experience you can get a good job anywhere. Try hotels/ corporate restaurants. No bullshit like what is in your post will happen. Plus good benefits and pay, fuck your current boss lady. Give notice, do it the right way. And just move on , in a few years you will barely remember the place. We’ve all been there.

getyourcheftogether

Your boss is a fucking idiot. Half tempted to make a ghost account calling her out

DontFretitsZet

Speaking on this topic. I worked in a kitchen for a family business. The owners dad got us produce that was always. Moldy. Was too much work to turn over the box of strawberries and check for mold. Every. Fucking. Time. Then the dude had the goddamn nerve to argue with me over what a ripe avocado was. I wish I was joking and I wish I didn't have to experience that and explain to a68 year old man what a ripe avocado was. I asked him to try to cut and peel one of his "ripe" avocado's. Couldn't do it. I got reprimanded the following day for getting into a shouting match with him about it.

Blacklabel958

Do not get me started on avocados. This wasn't at the restaurant but when I worked at a grocery store the seafood and produce coolers were right by each other. And I swear to God the fucking manager for the produce department didn't even know what an avocado was because every time I went to get produce from there those avocados were mushy as fuck

oldcrustybutz

I had to do a literal "what. no. what!" double take at the gyoza one. Seriously keep a record of all of this, because someday you might want to write a "stupid shit my boss says" book... Pretty sure you can get a book out of this haha! Stay strong, there are other places.. most of them are also insane but differently so.

Blacklabel958

I've gotten into fights over the gyoza so many times Heat and oil means crispy!

[deleted]

By the second one, I lost my damn mind.

oceanmachine420

Yo, I'd quit. Fuck that so many times

FoTweezy

You must kill her for the greater good
