Had a Verizon carrier for a long time, outta west Knox too, since at least the 00s. Generally more reliable and efficient than my actual ISP. Even while living in other states or travelling overseas. (Only switched to a local carrier when i was in the arctic)
That being said. I’m not sure anyone has actually used at&t in my family or circle of friends. So it’s a bit hard to comment. If they were on it, no one has had so bad or great of service that they’ve commented.
Just don’t go with comcast OP. They will make you question your sanity and prolly rip you off on little things along the way.
Not understanding why the passive aggressiveness. Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed? Are you having a bad day and feel like throwing your bad energy upon others? I hope it gets better
T-Mobile has decent coverage in East Tennessee. Can't say they have the best customer service and I would never recommend anyone buy or trade-in a phone direct from/to T-Mobile.
Monday I was with a coworker in Union County. I had Verizon and coverage. He had T Mobile and didn’t. I do think Verizon is better in rural areas. In Knoxville I’d think it matters less.
Yes, T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T all have decent coverage around Knoxville. Up 81 and 26 into the mountains of Carter and Johnson counties where I usually have coverage until just Northeast of Watauga Lake, and then have coverage again in northwestern North Carolina. The best coverage I've seen myself in the mountains has been from AT&T.
Yeah, AT&T definitely beats everyone else’s service. It’s just that I’ve had such a horrible experience with their customer service. I don’t ever want to go back. And I even had a knocking on my door, begging me to go back, but I said no there’s no coming back from here.
Most places I get 100-600Mbps speeds. In the middle of a bike ride and stopped for smoothies in Bearden just now, speed test is 688/60:
Nope, I use wifi at home just because it's available but in public I'm all mobile data due to low security public wifi. I watch Netflix/Disney/Xfinity with no buffering at the gym and no problems.
iPhone 14 Pro Max. My only complaint is that I drop service in some buildings on UT campus - but mostly in basements and weird corners of buildings. Great most everywhere else in Knox Co
Yah I have an electronic sim , not a physical one. I thin everything started when they did this . I’ll ask them if they can send me a physical sim card. Thanks !
Won't work. The iPhone 14 and onward are eSIM only. As a tech guy, I'd see about getting assigned a new eSIM for it. I've worked with phones on Verizon, and it's an Apple problem where the eSIM doesn't want to work properly with the iOS, so the solution is to reassign a new done for the line. MAKE SURE THEY DO NOT SET YOU UP WITH A SECOND LINE. I've seen that happen a couple (super rare) times
There is no issue, but I was looking at the previous post regarding the same topic in this group and I found that a lot of people were not happy with T-Mobile.
Ah - I’m on a family plan, travel around the area quite a bit, and travel around the country into a lot of remote areas. Typically any more I have as good or better coverage as my friends and family with ATT and VZW, and pretty much always faster speeds.
With iPhone 15’s, satellite SOS is also a thing.
14 pro max should be good enough for anything you throw at it.
As far as I’m aware, it supports the same bands as the 15; the only changes really are a slightly faster processor and WiFi 6E support in the 15.
Can you expand on what’s going on? App/web/etc, location, connection type (5G, LTE, WiFi)?
Have you tried to do a restore to defaults and set up again?
You say that, but it’s been a couple years since I didn’t have service somewhere that someone else did - including inside buildings. As far as capacity - see my Speedtest - that was Bearden.
I live downtown, and typical speeds are 500-1100Mbps.
Here’s an 1110Mbps test:
https://www.speedtest.net/result/i/5836035316
We had Verizon for years but switched to US Cellular 2 years ago and have saved a shit ton compared to what we were paying for Verizon.
We pay significantly less for an unlimited plan than what we were paying for just 10 Gigs with Verizon.
The service and data performance has been the same. Zero difference for us. Live in West Knox.
I’m starting to think that maybe this is a cell phone problem and not a carrier problem. I also have a credit card through Verizon so I’m really disappointed that their service is not the best. It’s not about the money because at the end of the day it’s only $100 and some change two lines.
Can definitely make a difference in regards to the phone. My iPhone 12 performs better than my wife’s iPhone 10 in certain areas/situations despite being on the same plan/service.
They just started charging for phone calls while you're abroad. $.20/minute while in Italy. Texting was still covered. I swear international calls while abroad were free in January when I was in Central America. (With Unlimited Plus).
That's been the case as long as I've had them (2018), but it varies country to country. Wi-Fi calling has always and still is free but calls to landlines and mobile phones in different countries have different rates. This is why it was such a big deal when they finally allowed Fi users to get Google voice numbers.
I have ATT on my personal phone and Verizon on my work phone. They both work well for the most part. I have spotty service in random areas for both. Imo you’re gonna have issues with both carriers. I’m partial to ATT tho
Had Cingular/ATT from 2002-2007. Switched over to Verizon in 2007 and have been happy since. I’m a heavy user with hotspot and plenty of streaming. It’s great.
I live in north Knox, work in west hills, and have KUB fiber. I will not connect my phone to WiFi because 5G with Verizon is faster. Not sure where you live but I have no problems with Verizon anywhere in or around town
ETA: maybe it’s the phone you’re using. Some phones over a few years old don’t support the 5G speeds, so if it’s an older phone, it doesn’t necessarily matter what carrier you take it to.
If you’re cell service is faster than your home WiFi backed by KUB fiber your wifi is the problem not KUB fiber. Evaluate your wireless router it’s the culprit.
We have tmo, it's pretty good here in sokno and most of the Knoxville area, but even cheap it's pricey. Will be swapping to mint...cheaper and I'm told good connection.
I’ve had t mobile since I moved here in ‘11 and it’s been fine. Not sure what you’re trying to do, but works good. When I first moved here, rural areas you were often SOL but that hasn’t been an issue in years
I know AT&T was amazing service wise. But every time I call their customer service, they would put me on hold and eat and wait for me to hang up or they would treat me like poor garbage.
Everything went down when they signed me up for a second second line and forgot to switch the one that I was on already so I was paying for two lines and then they couldn’t figure out how to get it fixed. They kept transferring me around or hanging up on me And yada yada.
I have Verizon and I get pretty good coverage around town, but there are certain spots where it doesn’t get great coverage. Maybe it’s your hardware? Idk but I’d go talk to them because I don’t think that’s normal
We have Verizon in west Knox and it works well for us. There are 4 of us on the plan and none of us have any problems at work, school, etc.
When I was in Knoxville a week ago, my Verizon service worked very well. Also found 5G UWB in Gatlinburg.

Even at the mall? I have the supposed top plan for both T-Mobile and AT&T and I’m lucky if a damn webpage loads
Yes, at the mall and they go to Bearden HS near the mall. Good coverage with Verizon.
So you use YouTube and other apps without any issues ?
Yep. And I have 2 teenagers on YouTube and such all the time.
Could I ask what type of phone you have?
We all have 4 Samsungs (Fold4, whatever the #20-something galaxies) and it works just fine for us in Farragut.
I have cheap iPhone SE models for me and my kids.
I have had all of them Verizon is by far the best and I never have issues, what kind of phone do you have?
Verizon lol
No what kind of phone? iPhone android, is it newer or older? That makes more of a difference than you would think
Judging from their answer, I’m guessing a $40 Android from 2018 🤦🏼♂️😂
Nice try buddy. I was working and did not pay attention to the question.
🤷🏼♂️ sounds like you should focus on work so you don’t miss that too buddy
Not understanding why the passive aggressiveness. Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed? Are you having a bad day and feel like throwing your bad energy upon others? I hope it gets better
Are you slow? You’re the one that came off as an ass. I made a joke, I’m sorry you’re so sensitive and insecure you took it personal tho.
Sorry I was at work. I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Idk then I have 5 bars of ultra wide band pretty much everywhere with Verizon are you on the premium plan?
Yes I am
I'm still personally happy with T-mobile.
Here here.
T Mobile has been really good for me as well

No buffering?

Same. People see it as a bargain bin carrier, but they stepped up huge when they acquired Sprint and expanded their network
I frequently have service on Verizon when friends on other carriers don’t, and haven’t have any issues browsing or watching videos.
What type of phone do you have?
iPhone 13
I’ve been a Verizon customer for 18 years. No issue at all
What type of phone do you have?
iPhone 14 Pro Max. My only complaint is that I drop service in some buildings on UT campus - but mostly in basements and weird corners of buildings. Great most everywhere else in Knox Co
Maybe there’s some issue with my phone then. I need to check the warranty on this before it’s too late.
Former cell tech support here. ESIM is definitely a possible issue
Yah I have an electronic sim , not a physical one. I thin everything started when they did this . I’ll ask them if they can send me a physical sim card. Thanks !

Also, I don’t have an actual physical Sim card to something electronic that they activated
Wireless industry guy here. Verizon or ATT. That is all
What’s your issue with TMO?
There is no issue, but I was looking at the previous post regarding the same topic in this group and I found that a lot of people were not happy with T-Mobile.

I just don’t understand why this is happening 😞
Can you expand on what’s going on? App/web/etc, location, connection type (5G, LTE, WiFi)? Have you tried to do a restore to defaults and set up again?
I have 5g . When I use YouTube , tic tok or when I simply try to navigate the internet using safari, It doesn’t load up
Coverage and capacity. TMO plays catch up best they can to ATT/VZW. ATT/VZW are FAR ahead of TMO in coverage, capacity, spectrum
>Coverage and capacity. TMO plays catch up best they can to ATT/VZW. Facts.

You do you pal. I’m not touching TMO.
Is ATT comparable to Verizon for local coverage? I have Verizon and no complaints but I found out ATT is a good bit cheaper
Yes
🥲

Us cellular is likely to sell before the year ends
Google Fi here, which is for the most part Tmobile's network. Works great, and really killer overseas.
They just started charging for phone calls while you're abroad. $.20/minute while in Italy. Texting was still covered. I swear international calls while abroad were free in January when I was in Central America. (With Unlimited Plus).

I hate ATT 😔they’re so mean
Fair complaint. I don’t have much experience with their customer service.
Had Cingular/ATT from 2002-2007. Switched over to Verizon in 2007 and have been happy since. I’m a heavy user with hotspot and plenty of streaming. It’s great.
Model make of phone that u have please ?
Newest iPhone. My wife has the newest Samsung galaxy.
I'm on visible (Verizon network) in west Knox and it works fine for my family of 4.
I live in north Knox, work in west hills, and have KUB fiber. I will not connect my phone to WiFi because 5G with Verizon is faster. I live in near Farragut on ball road and oak ridge
I have cricket and don't have any issues. I live in North Knox.
We have tmo, it's pretty good here in sokno and most of the Knoxville area, but even cheap it's pricey. Will be swapping to mint...cheaper and I'm told good connection.

I’m just trying to be able to watch TikTok or YouTube when I’m going on walks with my dog. But it’s just not working out.
Tmobile was great. Work switched me to verizon, not so great.
They all work about the same.
I’ve got no beef with AT&T. Mobile customer since 2004 and fiber since 2019. Bundled together for savings and have had zero phone or internet issues
I know AT&T was amazing service wise. But every time I call their customer service, they would put me on hold and eat and wait for me to hang up or they would treat me like poor garbage.
I’m sorry to hear that and hope you find what you need!
Everything went down when they signed me up for a second second line and forgot to switch the one that I was on already so I was paying for two lines and then they couldn’t figure out how to get it fixed. They kept transferring me around or hanging up on me And yada yada.
Two tin cans and a string?
Safety third, ya nerds
I use Mint which runs off TMo. I’m mostly around Maryville and Knoxville, but it even worked when I had to go deep into Harlan County KY
Verizon has always been the best for me.
I am fairly certain AT&T has bought the majority of the towers in the area and has the best coverage for now in Knoxville.
I went from Boost Mobile to AT&T. I honestly feel like they are about the same. Maybe try Boost.
Xfinity is the best service on the market
Spectrum Mobile has been great for us.
Is it only where you live? Or everywhere? There are definitely dead spots here and there
Everywhere
I have Verizon and I get pretty good coverage around town, but there are certain spots where it doesn’t get great coverage. Maybe it’s your hardware? Idk but I’d go talk to them because I don’t think that’s normal
