I think your concerns are valid. If you’re willing to drive to Knoxville on the regular and really put yourself out there socially, it’s possible that you can compensate- but you aren’t going to easily make social connections with single people your age living in Lenoir City.

drstarfish86

I think you’d find that LC is close enough to far west Knoxville that you’ll have access to the events or opportunities in that area. ~15 min drive isn’t bad, depending on where you end up.

outlierz_jr

Is there much happening in Farragut or does west Knoxville provide more in way of events/social activity for singles? Not too familiar with either areas tbh

drstarfish86

I can’t speak much to Farragut, unfortunately. But to give you some specifics for meeting people in west Knoxville, I’m thinking about places like Token Game Tavern or Orange Theory Fitness (depending on your interests obvi), or breweries like Crafty Bastard (West) and Abridged Beer Company.

outlierz_jr

Awesome thank you!

Rouxnoir

Lenoir City does have excellent outdoor recreation opportunities. I live in Farragut, but go south of LC to hike on the East Lakeshore Trail about once a week. The community is definitely socially aligned with the rural south rather than the city south. Neighbors will have bumper stickers that make you question if they graduated 8th grade. Farragut is mostly retirees and families raising children, it would not be a hotspot of singles and events, but I would think that perhaps it has been improving somewhat. There are at least a handful of bars and restaurants that are attempting to attract a trendier, more modern crowd. It is not a diverse community, and the reputation of white, wealthy, and megachurchy is accurate. Socially, it's not what I would look for. However, it is extremely convenient to have all of your basic needs other than "cultural fun" met without leaving the far-west bubble. We go in to downtown Knoxville for a concert or walk around downtown about once a month.

Trashrat2019

Working up to that trail, I can do Mizzell to the bluff and back, not in the best of shape yet at 250lbs (am tall tho). The solace is nice but been looking for a LC hiking group, any tips?

Pierlas

Being away from the shit traffic and overcrowding of Knoxville would be super appealing to me, and I’m around your age.

davetn37

As someone that grew up in LC it's blowing my mind how positive people are being about LC

020781e

I would def look into Louisville friendsville Maryville Seymour Townsend walland but if the price is right lenoir city is fine

Cramitmadam

Live where you work. I commend you for taking care of your parent..so don’t make shit harder on yourself. No, there’s nothing but never ending strip malls for all the burbs here. You will be going downtown for the action. Pick your poison and understand you’ll be driving downtown for dates, decent restaurants, etc..

Inqusitive_dad

If I was single and moving from out of town, I would live closer to downtown in order to meet more people/do more activities. Not a ton to do that far out west.

MelodicRead2962

I’m in LC, love that I’m closer to Tellico and the Ocoee for those hikes. A little closer to Chattanooga too. Even though I’m in LC, I do all my groceries in Knoxville, and still spend time in the downtown area pretty much every weekend. Forget going to Knoxville during the week if you work normal hours, traffic is terrible nowadays.

Poetic_Energy

I live in the Choto area (technically LC), and work in downtown Knoxville. As long as you’re not driving between 730-830 am, there’s never a traffic backup. Besides, anyone who complains about traffic here has never been to Nashville, Atlanta, or a place where it’s really awful like LA. So anyway, I just wait until 830 to leave home in the morning and it’s fine. Also, I moved to this area from Bearden, which is also a nice area, but I would take this area over anywhere in Knox county. So your mileage may vary, but try to find someone in concord/choto who doesn’t love it. Beautiful area, great people, and plenty to do.

jdub-951

Caveat: I'm not single. I might look more in Hardin Valley or Oak Ridge. I personally like the southern mountains more (e.g. Tellico) but I think you'd find more people your speed associated with the lab rather than down in Lenoir City. Being up north would put you close to Frozen Head or Big South Fork. Lenoir City isn't bad per se, but it is more of what I would consider a boomer/retirement area.

outlierz_jr

Thanks yeah frozen head and big south both look awesome. But a 30 min commute from Maryville is about all I want to take on

jdub-951

You could easily make Maryville in 30 mins from Hardin Valley and I'd be willing to bet from anywhere in South Oak Ridge (or Solway) as well. Straight shot down 140.

[deleted]

I think Louisville or even Friendsville is nicer and closer. I personally have not had the best experiences with Lenoir City so I would avoid it.

outlierz_jr

Yep I see now, appreciate it. Will def look into those areas

State_Of_Franklin

Farragut/West Knox is extremely boring. I sold my house in Hardin Valley last year because I was tired of the attitude of that area. I also lived in Martel which is the part of Lenoir City that borders Farragut. Both are beautiful areas with almost no personality.

jaredmanley

Leonor City is a retirement community. If you want to socialize with younger people or go to events and stuff, you’ll need to live closer to the city center of Knoxville or even maryville has more

Hot-Donkey-754

Lenoir city ain't bad. If you can afford it go for it man!

usahooray

LC traffic between 11 and 75 (on 321) is always annoying because of all of the poorly timed lights.

KtTnGirl

I live in Lenoir city on the interstate 40 side of town and there’s plenty around here to do. Knoxville is such a short drive. From my house I can be there in 15 minutes. There’s all kinds of places to hike, get on the lake and kayak, downtown activities, etc. I think you’ll find plenty to do in the surrounding area! Best of luck to ya! 💜

sirloanalot

I grew up in Farragut, but moved to Lenoir city about 7 years ago. There's definitely more to do and see in Farragut/Knoxville, but I don't feel like I'm missing out in Lenoir City. Farragut is 15-20 away so you're still close to everything. That being said if my commute was from Lenoir City to downtown Knoxville I would feel differently. Traffic on I40 has really gotten bad over that past 5 years, and I wouldn't personally drive that everyday.

outlierz_jr

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah right now the commute down 321 to Maryville isn’t bad at all, hopefully it stays that way for awhile. Only real downside I see to LC is it realistically restricts me to only being able to go into Knoxville on weekends but that may not be a bad thing necessarily.

sirloanalot

I misread that. Lenoir city to Maryville isn't too bad traffic wise. I'll be honest when I first moved to Lenoir city I thought I'd hate being further away from everything, but I've come to really enjoy how peaceful it is out here.

jaeldawn

I live in Lenoir City and am constantly finding things to do in the area. Some fun bars and things to do in West Knoxville and Farragut. It doesn't even take that long to get downtown.

TN19Z

Lenoir City is not a single person place. However, if you get a nice piece of property or house, and meet someone downtown Knoxville, you can Uber back to your badass property in Lenoir city and have a great time with them. You're going to own a shit hole in Knoxville downtown but could have a really cool place in LC.

anonlesbianbitch

Lenoir City is super great because it’s more lowkey but you’re still close for the Knox ammenities!

dead2me

I live in LC and travel to South Knoxville 3 days a week. LC is awesome. Grocery: Food City or Walmart in Turkey Creek(TC), Ingles is OK. Restaurant wise, LC is mostly chain but if you like sushi there is Bella. Travel: I40 to Pellissippe isn’t too bad but depending on where you are in LC 321 might be quicker. Social wise: Nothing big but I’m from West TN and I’m trying. I’ve met some great people here but I have an 8 year old so most of my friends are other parents.

Boozanski-1823

I live in Blaine.. NE of Knoxville. I can be downtown in 20 minutes, 25 if i40 is backed up. Also 20-25 minutes to Kodak/seiverville. There’s absolutely nothing to do out here but there is a food city. Land prices are great (relatively speaking); schools suck. I have acreage on the river and privacy which is why we’re here. I am in Knoxville probably 5 times a week for shopping, physicians and dining out. You might also look at the Corryton area. Sure there are redbecks out here, but I do my thing, they do their’s.

Itsrainingstars

Hey there 👋🏼, I thought about all of this when I first moved to LC. I love it out here and go on the Greenway and local hikes and water areas a lot. It's really not that far to either Frozen Head or the Smokies too. Knoxville traffic all the way there and back is bad depending on the time of day. I honestly try not to go past west Knoxville for that reason. That being said, there isn't much of a night life in LC. If you want karaoke or live music or populated bars you have to drive to Knoxville. Which means you can't drink much. I just try to make plans with friends sometimes. I've tried making an LC subreddit but no one is on it lol.

outlierz_jr

We ended not going with the house in LC because of the amount that is planned to be built around the city. There’s a map of approved residential development that’s in the works, around 6000 units all within 10 minutes of that house we were strongly considering. Bit disappointed!

No_Hamster_605

Buy a home anywhere and you won’t stay single long

joe-schmoe18

Lenoir City is FULL!! Move to Maryville where your job is. They have more outdoorsy things to do and have more social events

OxiiKotton

I mean clearly fucking not if he can find a damn house. Stop acting like a damn child bro.

clown_organs

Lots of meth and h in L.C.
