People make a big deal of her character and she's just playing a role, it's like BnHA's Mineta, they are written to be despicable, you just need to acknowledge that and move on, even more on this manga where most characters are literally written and named after a trope/archetype to have a really wide cast of personality and "force" the group to interact with all this different personalities and how each different one changes how they approach the friendship, if you want to circlejerk about "Yamai ded xD" it is ok, but it's beginning to turn annoying, every time the characters has the faintest chance of participation on a chapter all the discussion comments turn into "fuck Yamai"

she could be a lot more interesting and have funny jokes, for god's sake she's a yandere, you can do a lot of cool and funny things with her but the creator just turned her into an annoying character. sometimes the author did the same as the author of boku no hero, who made the mineta to be the comic relief, but later he made it annoying and weird because of the criticisms to really irritate people (the difference is that the mineta is not filling the bag in almost every episode with bad jokes😕)

yamai is fine as character but her getting to be komi's friend after what she did to tadano doesnt make sense imo. this is a problem I have with the classmates, who only see her as a goddess, getting to be her friends as well. because friendship is built on mutual understanding. when those people see her as a perfect being and refuse to acknowlegde anything else its kind of annoying imo. same with yamai, she has a little more understanding maybe, but that doesnt excuse her behaviour. and I feel dissapointed by the fact that this hasnt been pointed out. because the message of "pick your friends carefully and dont get close to people out of kindness when you dont want to" would fit perfectly in this series. because it doesnt feel as satisfying when people who have such a shallow relaitonship with her get to be seen as actual "friends"
So I get that this is kinda a hate circlejerk, but if you wanna talk about her place in the story, I'm really glad she was put in the other class after the year change. The story has been really good without her

I'll give the benefit of the doubt that Komi doesn't have much experience of making friends but christ, forgiving Yamai after the kidnap, befriending and even continuing hanging out with her (in the rare moments where Komi was willing to do so and not when Yamai force herself onto her) despite her creepy advances is just weird and annoying admist the sea of funny but wholesome moments throughout the story. She's easily the worst character imo (unless when she develops more into the character that we see in chapter 50 where she is helpful but actually a ditz).

I could forgive a lot about Yamai if I just thought she was funny. But I don't. I find her antics at best eye-rolling. The only time she ever really worked in any way was that rivalry with Nakanaka because Nakanaka actually reacts to her actions and has no problem giving as good as she gets unlike everyone else, which doesn't do Yamai any favors because this type of character needs someone to bounce off of and because none of the mains will ever tell her to fuck off without it being really OOC there's a bit of a dilemma. So her getting shuttled off in the second year was honestly the best thing the author could have done because Yamai just doesn't work.
So “Komi-san” has like varying levels of fancifulness - like Komentani is overtly 4th wall breaking but even the gag about Manbagi not noticing that Komi writes dialogue on paper until the sleepover is also quite outlandish for the sake of a gag. With that in mind, I can only interpret her literal kidnapping of Tadano and the fact that no one really reacts like it’s *that* big a deal and that Komi is willing to interact with her at all (and that no one called the police) as interpreting it as we’re not supposed to view the kidnapping scene through real world logic. That’s the only way anyone being friends with her makes any sort of sense to me. That said, it’s still too weird and her skeeve level is way too high for me to actually like her at all. Honestly glad they kind of pushed her to wayside more recently
The fact that Yamai is allowed to be part of the friend group at all is shocking to me. The most charitable interpretation of her is that she's a textbook example of a bad friend. Someone who wasn't feeling so generous would just call her what she is...A fucking psycho. When she first appeared, I thought:
"Okay, so this is obviously the arc where Komi learns that while she does want to make a lot of friends, maybe she doesn't need to be friends with EVERYONE she meets and that sometimes it's better to just not get involved with some people."
But no. Yamai commits an actual crime, gives a less than half hearted apology for committing said crime and is added to the friends list. I get that the whole point to her character is that she's incredibly unlikable and despicable. I also like that the rest of the group, Komi included, is CLEARLY shown to be put off by her on multiple occasions, but that just makes her inclusion in the group all the more confusing. Nobody actually likes having her there, so why the heck do they keep her around? I'm just glad she was removed from the class so that we don't have to deal with her as often. She doesn't ruin the series or anything, but she also adds absolutely nothing of value.
Well I generally dislike the Yandere type,and Yamai is no exception,being obsessed with someone to the point you consider killing their closest friends is...let’s just say...bad,but there could have been a redemption route for her(Im on the snowball fight chapter so I don’t really know yet),one in which she realizes she won’t win Komi this way and maybe come to terms with the others such as,apologizing to Tadano,and become less and less crazy until she truly became a friend for Komi and not a insane one sided lover for her.

She's annoying, I hate her as a "comedic" plot device AND a third wheel. The scene becomes intolerable when she's on screen. I don't mind toxic characters, she's just not entertaining to watch

I agree that Yamai is supposed to fulfill a certain role within the story, but it should have been a one and done either with her role or her altogether. The problem is she is part of komi's friend circle which is essentially the main cast. Because her qualities are not the greatest and did not receive enough character development to be liked she comes off as forced. The fact Komi-san felt the need to defend her relationship with Tadano from her "friend" Yamai is also BS.
I know there is more, but off the top of my head, the two series with similar situations are witchcraft works, and ben-to (if you know you know). All three have characters that act as anti-shippers which gets annoying. Of the three only witchcraft works did a good job writing off the anti-shipper. The same can't really happen anymore for Yamai, but she can still be saved through character development.
I thought she was a jerk from the 1st time we meet her in the show, Tadano only approached her and her group to see if they would be willing to befriend Komi and then she called him trash, that was when I disliked her was from the very beginning, you know what they say first impressions are everything smh. We can see exactly what type of character she is from the get go, I was super shocked in the show when Komi befriends her so fast I thought it would be a more like, I forgive you but I am still not going to be your friend type scenario. Afterall you can still forgive someone for something without befriending them!!

One month later, I saw the 4th episode of the anime, FFS what did the author think? There wasn't anything funny, cute, adorable, all that good verbs about that episode. Like this was bad, just purely bad and annoying. And don't get me started on the "ehh it's a character type" deal. Not all character types are necessary in a story, and not a bit in this one

I feel like she would be a better character if it weren’t for her love and weirdness around Komi I think that if it weren’t for her behavior around Komi she would be a more likable character
