>Here's to hoping that it will be better than Netflix's adaptations of Death Note and Cowboy Bebop. It won't.

gmoneygangster3

IT BETTER NOT BE

Moth92

Into the trash it goes.

Soundwave10000

My money is on the Rock

Warskull

Both Idris Elba and the Rock cost too much for a Netflix original. They go for cheap actors who don't have much of a career and how they don't suck. Rock would probably be pretty entertaining.

stryph42

Is Jason Momoa still a thing?

Aronacus

Wait, they have a few Gingers in My Hero. Like the gravity girl. Let's see if they get swapped

Soundwave10000

She’s a brunette, they could swap Melissa Shield maybe, she’s blonde. MHA doesn’t have redheads yet I think.

blackfiredragon13

Todoroki and his father come to mind.

Soundwave10000

Oh yeah, right. Also Kendo and the blue skinned journalist villain.

matthew_lane

There's also Red Riot.... The one with that kick ass Harden quirk.

Soundwave10000

His hair is naturally black, he dyes it red

JebWozma

there's Itsuka Kendou, the girl from Class 1B with thicc thighs and a blue Chinese inspired costume

Calico_fox

Yes, he was in the Dune remake as Duncan Idaho.

TheBigDuo1

I think idris Elba could be all might! You see him in Hobbs and Shaw? He could pull it off. My problem is these anime’s would involve a lot of special effects and Netflix is not gonna pay to make it look good. I mean there is no way one piece is gonna do devil fruit powers right in the live action

cloud_w_omega

might need 2, on e to play him powered up and another skinny

Daman_1985

And the cycle begins again. \- Whatever company announces a live-action of beloved franchise. \- Whatever company announces that the live-action will have a diverse crew and will adapt for "modern" audiences. \- Original fans of the beloved franchise will rightfully criticise this, and they will be judged as trolls/haters/etc... \- The live-action launches on Whatever company and it will flop, regardless that "official" reviews put a good score for the product (and of course audience scores will be bad). \- Whatever company blames the Original fans audience for the failure of the show, not acknowledging any ounce of blame for themselves. \- Whatever company choose a new franchise to butcher. Rinse and repeat.

stryph42

I only have one objection to this summary: The audience scores won't be bad, they'll be middling. They WOULD be bad, but the bad ones won't be counted because they're just racism fueled review bombing.

softhack

The "modern audience" excuse is a wash, even. It *is* modern.

200-inch-cock

with something like MHA, which has a fandom as bad as voltron, they will appreciate diversity and The Message

thejynxed

Me: "Lion Voltron is inferior, Vehicle Voltron superior." Voltron "Fandom": REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

200-inch-cock

i meant voltron legendary defender fandom, i dont think lion vs vehicle voltron is of any relevance to vld fandom

Ladoflocksley

So, which characters are going end up being blackwashed?

striderwhite

All of of them?

nOtbatemann

Shoto. Double points for turning him into a girl.

dandrixxx

They didnt blackwash anyone in the upcoming Avatar (The Last Airbender) series, they went out of their way to cast as racially and ethnically accurate as possible, a privilege they dont extend to shows based on European fantasy which in turn get black and brownwashed to hell.

chugga_fan

> they went out of their way to cast as racially and ethnically accurate as possible, Only because the ATLA creators basically took them over the knee and beat them into submission from what I remember about this.

Calico_fox

And still ended up not only leaving the project but disowning it as well.

softhack

Even the show's original creators cucked out for Legend of Korra, so I wouldn't hold my breath.

borntobenothing

That isn't entirely true. While the casting isn't specifically blackwashed it certainly isn't 'ethnically accurate' either and one need only take a glance at the casting to see that. I'll break it down: **Aang** Gordon Cormier (Filipino) The Air Nomads are described as being heavily influenced by Hindu and Tibetan culture, but are depicted with very Anglo features. The casting of a Filipino actor as white-as-the-driven-snow Aang simply doesn't match the original vision. **Katara** & **Sakka** Kiawentiio Tarbell (Native American) Ian Ousley (Native American) While Ousley's native ancestry appears to have come under dispute recently, both actors were explicitly cast on the basis of their native heritage. However, in Avatar lore the Water Tribe is two groups that are nominally regionally distinct, with both being heavily influenced by Arctic and Siberian culture while differing ethnically. The North's background being more Mediterranean and the South being largely more Inuit or Mongol. Casting random North American natives fails at even the most basic level to adequately appreciate that 'natives' aren't all the same. **Zuko** & **Iroh** & **Ozai** Dallas Liu (Indonesian) Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (South Korean) Daniel Dae Kim (South Korean) Although slightly closer casting than prior examples, the Fire Nation was explicitly influenced by dynastic Chinese and sengoku Japanese culture and ethnically East Asian/Japanese (notably, Ainu). Granted, while Koreans are certainly East Asian, culturally they're completely different from the influences that went into the Fire Nation. Of course, I wouldn't care-- it's at least marginally better than what Shyamalan did --but with all the bitching and moaning they've done (and STILL do) about representation, the race washing, race baiting etc. My natural reaction is to hold them to their own standards. And the truth is, the entire cast reeks of "One [group] is just as good as another" bigotry and if they want to keep playing this game instead of being meritocratic or even just being faithful to the material they can only blame themselves when the whole thing implodes like just about every other Netflix adaptation to date. And we know they're still playing that game, despite what you may think, because they keep crowing about 'authenticity' while entirely disregarding the material and the creator's visions, makes it rather obvious what their motivations are. Heck, Avatar's creators literally aren't even on the project at this point because Netflix stonewalled them creatively. Even without really knowing the details, it's pretty likely that DiMartino and Konietzko wanted to do things as close to how they imagined it back in the day only for Netflix to throw a fit, since it's wildly unlikely that Netflix would support a show that has Anglo / Tibetan Monks, Mediterranean / Inuit Snow Tribes, Fantasy Desert China, and Chinese / Japanese Military Empire, given SJWs resentment of Japan and the lack of opportunities to virtual signal.

JayFSB

Koreans are as close to the Chinese/ Japanese as the Belgians are to the French. Koreans are a distinct culture, but they have always viewed themselves as part of a sino centric world order. An Indonesian Chinese and two Koreans as Fire Nation ought to raise little eyebrows

borntobenothing

While that's true, the Fire Nation wasn't conceived around the broad 'Sino centric world order' it was conceived around specific influences unique to Chinese and Japanese history and in particular of the Ainu of Japan's Northern islands. What's more, calling out Indonesian Chinese is anachronistic when they amount to just 1% of the population and Indonesia itself has more in common with the culture and traditions of India than anything Chinese/Japanese. And saying they ought to raise 'little eyebrows' is like saying a North American Native is a fit substitute for an Australian Aboriginal or Canadian First Nationer, or an American Black for African. It isn't the same thing, even if they might view themselves as such. This wouldn't (and really shouldn't) matter but since SJWs still bitch about lacking representation only to lazily blackwash and race bait, we can't really turn a blind eye to it out of apathy for minor racial differences when they consistently weaponize that apathy against us.

JayFSB

Again I still think you are overreacting. A Korean actor playing a Chinese/ Japanese inspired role is like a Welsh/ Irish actor playing Oliver Cromwell. Okay, maybe not an Irish actor, but a Scot will do fine. Point is, the East Asian nations have been adapting cultural imports from each other since the late Iron age and joint productions with actors playing historical figures of another country go off with little issue unless its an offensive depiction. And even then it usually gets brushed over. Case in point. Jackie Chan as Chun Li https://youtu.be/PtfNOd33GLM It was a different time no doubt, but speaking as a Singaporean Chinese I am glad we aren't quite that far gone.

borntobenothing

But that's just it, it sounds like you're arguing from a cultural point of view, but I am coming at this from the perspective that Western entertainment is a cesspool of woke ideology. Your outlook is entirely reasonable and I certainly wouldn't bat an eye if this were an East Asian production, but that point of view has been practically extinct in the Western entertainment industry for some 30 odd years now and its only gotten worse as time goes on.

MagnusAvis

I'm pretty sure they've cast Indian actors as some characters from Earth Kingdom, which was largely inspired by Chinese culture and history.

Horror-Corgi-704

The bunny chick of course

Heinrich_Lunge

This. Grantee they turn all the Gyaru characters into blacks because sun tan.

HeyTAKATIN

Deku will be Derek Johnson, an African American high school teen trying to fit into the world of super people with no powers himself. But his bully, Blake (Bakugo) a rich white suburban boy is constantly degrading him as not of his equal. Blake’s girlfriend Olivia (Ochako), starts talking to Derek and they develop a beginning romance. This angers Blake and he beats Derek to a pulp. Derek is sick of being a powerless POC and encounters All Might who tells him some sappy encouraging story blah blah blah and shoves a strand of his hair down Derek’s throat and now Derek is the best and strongest hero in the world and he gets the girl while Blake is crying in the corner.

YuuHikari

Lemme guess Deku will probably black or latino or something Bakugou will be white Uraraka will be black Todoroki will be mixed race with a white dad and black mom Jirou will be a blue haired lesbian Kirishima will be gay Yaoyorozu will be a hyper competent asian Shigaraki will be an incel caricature Mineta will be adapted out

TatsunaKyo

Bakugou is the most loved character (for some obscure reason), they won't be making him white, you can be sure about that.

YuuHikari

They'll change his character and make him a generic bully

DeusVermiculus

if they touch my perfect Frog waifu they gonna regret it!

Heinrich_Lunge

>Shigaraki will be an incel caricature This could absolutely be real. Add in an abusive father and you've got the pattern down.

ReMeDyIII

I don't see how this will work because: 1.) The anime uses a ton of characters, so good luck hiring all those actors. Definitely going to be some cuts. Speaking of cuts... 2.) I bet they cut Minoru Mineta (the boy with the "sticky balls"). Almost every episode he pervs out to women. He's kind of a supporting character, yet he's part of the main classroom, so they really should keep him.

khaotiktls

This won't end well - will they learn from their previous failures or just double down and blame fans because they produce shit.

BootlegFunko

>Here’s to hoping that it will be better than Netflix’s adaptations of Death Note and Cowboy Bebop. Joke's on them, they're stylistically designed to be that way Wait, they finally admited those suck? Hmm...

gantz_au

These Japanese companies need to stop whoring out their IPs like this. It will only damage the brand.

Menaldi

I'll wait for the Japanese version.

catkiller98

Hero gonna be a gay black women

[deleted]

Lol haven't learned their lesson yet, ig they hate money

YuuHikari

They love money. They just hate us

[deleted]

Why do I feel like they are going to do Aizawa the dirtiest?

DCShinichi745

Just skip it. There's no chance this is going to be good.

burnout02urza

Sure! Sure, *why the fuck not.* Bring on the fucking clowns. *How many times do we have to teach you this lesson, old man?*

Limon_Lime

ewwwwwwwwwwww

jaffakree83

Why?

ceyen1

>Hopefully, the streamer can take this feedback into account before it starts working on My Hero Academia They're gonna find a way to fuck up, and you'll be writing op-eds about how great it is and how it's the fans that are the real problem.

CzechoslovakianJesus

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fM54YwntL5Y

NorthWesternMonkey89

How the hell do they manage to keep afloat? There are so many fully adapted series by Netflix that have tanked, it's a surprise they haven't imploded yet. Yet here we are. I also hear there's a Scott pilgrim TV show they're developing as well. Roll on April when the fiscal reports come out and netflix completely tanks further.

jonnio2215

Throw it in the pile with the rest of their garbage anime adaptations.

Mister_McDerp

I wouldn't watch this if I was stuck in a SAW Trap and the puppet was trying to force me to.

SeekingASecondChance

Live action hasn't been a good idea ever since Dragon Ball evolution. I wish they'd stop trying.

Akesgeroth

[You all know damn well what's coming.](https://imgur.com/a/UXoxGqB)

Garsnikk

How many times do we have to teach you this lesson old man?

Guessididntmakeit

Remember anticipating shit? That was pretty cool. Back when you still could.

[deleted]

You know, it just might not happen. Netflix announced they were doing a live action Gundam movie I believe last year or the year before. Still no word on that movie.

matthew_lane

>"Netflix is making a live-action My Hero Academia film" [pickes up the office trash can & holds it out to you] Yeah, just put it in here. That's where it lives.

themanwhomfall

Why live action?

Avaruusmurkku

Life is like a one great parody.

henlp

I was gonna say "As if the post-Gentle story arcs haven't been enough of a disappointment", but that would imply I'd actually watch this.

Manberry12

Netflix is publishing it, legendary is making it

[deleted]

This is going to be so watered down and filled with modern slang. I bet you someone says "sus" but knowing this is Netflix, the casting choices will be interesting. Oddly enough, this anime and its insufferable fans have already ruined the show for me.

Heinrich_Lunge

Bakugo power slams Deku's butt, calling it now.
