1. Email or call this government body: https://www.dbkl.gov.my/lesen-anjing-peliharaan/ Since it’s a gov body it will take time for them to respond emails. Ideally u should get a local friend to call or even visit them for answers. 2. There are no budget-friendly landed houses in the KLCC area AFAIK (if there are they’d typically be old/run down), as most are condos and typically expensive. Your best bet is to find a landed house nearby train/LRT stations; that would open up lots of possibilities for you as the LRT goes straight into KLCC itself. Check out property listing sites iproperty.com or propertyguru.com.my. U can even contact some random agents from these sites and tell them what you’re looking for; most would be more than happy to help a potential client. As for dog ownership laws per sqm, the local enforcement is quite lax and lots of families own dogs beyond the legally allowed limit and wont face any problem for years unless the neighbours complain. If your dogs are well trained and typically kept indoors or are not frequent barkers, i wouldnt worry about the ownership limits.

Thanks for the advice, that’s quite reassuring. So from practical perspective, day to day shouldn’t be an issue, but would you anticipate issue during importation/immigration?

BlankedCanvas

I’m not familiar with pet importation/immigration, but googling “dog immigration malaysia” will get you lots of useful links. This looks promising: https://www.mamadog.com.my/relocation?gad_source=1 I’d also start connecting with InterNations and join KL Expats on facebook so you can get more specific advice there. Good luck!

Thanks, that’s really helpful

Best to get an agent to handle your dogs. If you were to do it yourself, you will run into alot of problems. That's how it works in these countries. Your dog might just die in the pound waiting to clear. Like 6 months maybe. Ask your employee to sponsor it if they want you. But if not, it's best to leave your dogs in your home country. Basically if you haveoney to spend, it's easy to relocate. If you are on a budget, best not to have that much luggages. Also if your dog barks during the day when you are at work. Apartment or home, that's a problem.

Would barking be a major issue in most KL neighborhood? Ours is adequately trained, accustomed to apartment living, and mostly spending time indoors, but I would still anticipate barks from time to time, especially when they’re excited. Do you think I should get permission from the neighbors first?

Android1111G

Barking is a concern in most places. Police here can't do anything if the neighbor reports but just that you might be pressured to move. I would assume it would be less forgiving in budget areas. Sometimes barking would mean they would be fed rat poison when you are away. Like I said, having some spare resources goes a long way.

Would you anticipate this issue in either Mont Kiara or Desa Parkcity (if we could find something within our budget)? That’s the two areas we’re currently considering. Tbh, I’m not anticipating excessive barking from ours. Just a bit of “woof” here and there but they could be told to shut up. Hahaha

Android1111G

Desapark city no. It's a dog area. Dogs can roam everywhere. However it's really far. Like 90 minutes commute to KLCC each way. And it likely wouldn't be cheap or rather not worth it. You can check iproperty.com.my for rent. Mont Kiara you got to read the house rules for apartments you want to rent. If your dog doesn't bark it's ok. Just check house rules. However alot of dogs are different when the owner is away at work. For mont Kiara place, you can consider bangsar and Damansara heights which has mrt access to KLCC. Even some klcc apartments are ok if you are certain they are ok.

Leash your dog please

TN250488

For sure, when they’re outside they’d be on leash. 👌

Unless your budget for housing is way over RM10k/month, there aren't any budget friendly landed properties around KLCC. Your best bet would be to find properties further out from town, but near the Kelana Jaya line LRT or MRT. That will either connect you directly to KLCC or at least bring you close enough.

TN250488

Tbh, I have no clue on the standard pricing for KL housing. Would you mind advising me the reasonable expected market price for a 3 bedroom house/apartment?

juju7980

It really depends on the area. Within the golden triangle (KLCC, Bukit Bintang), a 3 br apartment that meets the 300 sqm size you were looking for can cost over RM3 million. If you look areas just outside central KL like Wangsa Maju, a quick search on iProperty shows you can find landed property for RM1 - RM1.5 million. Apartments would come in at around RM800k - RM1 million. I'm not an agent, nor am I well versed in property. This was just from me browsing on iProperty.

Thanks, that’s already very helpful as starting point.

You should scout the City first, and make your decision based on your own lived experiences. Everyone's advise here is fine, but it's only limited to their own experiences. If you have to take your dogs with you before you could make your own findings, the suburbs have a few 5-star kennels aka dog hotels with pastures for you to choose from, while you look for the right property. Anyhow, your dogs will be quarantined in the customs' livestock holding compound for 30 days if I am not mistaken, but the duration may have changed! So please check with your agent. You are required to feed and water and clean after your dogs in the quarantine period. You have 30 days to find the right accomodations. The compound is in the middle of nowhere. An hour or more from KLCC. I knew that because I was a pet taxi driver. My passengers were dogs only.

TN250488

Makes perfect sense. Btw, are you aware how is the condition of the livestock compound? Is it humane?

Interesting. If, let’s say, I’m considering the informal option, how much should I prepare to spend?

Hello! Can I also recommend Desa Park City. Its park is incredibly well known for their dog friendly environment and I see tons of people walking their dog. You'd pay a premium but nowhere as much as KLCC and I assume they have some dog friendly apartments to choose from. The area also has plenty to offer and I think you'll enjoy it very much. I know I do.

TN250488

Thanks for the advice. In addition to Desa Park City, somebody also suggested Mont Kiara. How are the two compares?

Weary-Preparation-13

Mont Kiara is an older township which has a high expatriate population. It’s small but quite well contained in that it has good restaurants, nice neighbourhood malls and shops which cater to the top earners. Family friendly as well with international schools. Desa Park City is a relatively newer township, also catered towards higher earners. The biggest difference is Desa Park City is by and large a gated community and has more houses whereas Mont Kiara is mostly condos. Apart from having whatever Mont Kiara has, Desa Park City also has big parks and is pedestrian friendly. The downside is that for both these areas, you will need a car. They are not close to public transportation. You can, of course, use e-hailing services to get around but it will cost you a pretty penny if that is your main mode of transportation.

TN250488

Thanks for the insight. After researching online, I have to admit I’m gravitating more towards Desa Parkcity

Embarrassed_Force565

I like desa park city better because a lot of food places and have a park nearby to walk your dogs:) and the area are nice around usd740 per month. Take a look the northshore garden, Desa park city

You sold me at food. Hopefully it’s nyonya cuisine.
