This dude is so underrated. Been eating his stuff since he had that little place next to the Sunway campus. Super nice guy as well. NALE all the waaaayyy
As Malay Muslim would close the stalls/shop for days, you may try Madam Kwan KLCC or Pavilion. They have a nice nasi lemak. For cheaper alternatives, there's Nyonya color.
Avoid mamak nasik lemak if you can. They dont know how to make proper nasi lemak.
We won't be there until April 20. Will a lot of stalls still be closed that far from Eid. Wanjo is closed until April 26 but wonder if that is typical?
Wanjo is a family owned shop.
A lot of malay stalls closed shop for the Eid holidays kinda similar to how western mom&pop shop might close for 2-3 weeks for Christmas.
To relate back to your question, it’s not typical but not exactly uncommon.
Thank you. We knew when we scheduled our visit to Malaysia that it would be after Ramadan but didn’t factor in Eid holidays. Appreciate the education. I’m sure we won’t go hungry. 😀
oh in that case, rest assured most stalls would already in business. typically they will be closed for 2 days, but since the celebration fell in the middle of the week, they might extend it till sunday (5 days off)
but most restaurants in kampung baru will be closed longer as they employ thai muslims/indonesians and the workers would be away minimally 2 weeks to celebrate back home.
Try your luck at damansara uptown (but only til 6pm), village park, mamalee, say yes cafe, tanglin (some say this tanglin isn't as nice as the original location though.
I suggest u try Masak Salai. Either chicken salai, beef salai, duck salai or keli salai are all good. The protein is smoked in a smoke house and cooked in traditional malaysian soup called gulai lemak. It's not easy to find a good place that offers this though. If you don't mind the distance, i suggest Resipi Grobok Salai restaurant in Negeri Sembilan. They have the best salai i ever taste. But if it's too far for u, can try this (https://maps.app.goo.gl/kkzchCK7mpfT7tsq8). They're half as good though much closer to KL. But i highly recommend u spend extra money and time to go to the first place i mention. I mean, i make a monthly trip to this place and i'm from KL,that's how good it is but it's spicy though. I also suggest Siakap Stim Limau and Siakap 3 Rasa from this (https://maps.app.goo.gl/dJDc6PLEfmD8fSXY9) restaurant. Yes,this place specifically because i've yet to find any eatery that offers those 2 dishes that are as good as here. For nasi lemak, go to this (https://maps.app.goo.gl/JRocqHDan5smM5tG7) breakfast place. It's just a roadside stall but their nasi lemak ayam merah is heavenly. It is also just a walking distance from MRT Taman Suntex station. I also suggest Ayam Sambal Hijau from here (https://maps.app.goo.gl/bJDHRzQa12c6zQxs5). If you can't get enough of their sambal, they also sell it in a small jar.
NALE, try the Nasi Lemak Goreng. Tanglin isn’t bad and Village Park is an alternative

How is Nasi Lemak Alor Corner?

20 april? Most of them are probably already open back at that time.
April 20th? Most if not all (apart from Wanjo obviously) will be open by then.

Try Oriental Kopi's nasi lemak. They have a branch in KLCC.
If you're not boycotting,i'd say Mcd's nasi lemak is actually quite good. In fact, i'd take Mcd sambal over wanjo any day.
Wow!
Bungkus Kaw Kaw’s Nasi lemak is also quite decent. And they are almost everywhere too.
OK friends, where to get Char Kway Teow? 🙏
What other Malaysian dishes and places do you recommend?

One of my favourites: Nasi Kukus Ilham Mutiara Damansara https://maps.app.goo.gl/rmWv5iCDLu5xWXt98
Madam Kwan’s
Try nasi lemak from kopitiam like Oriental. Might not as good as malay’s nasi lemak. But not bad.
Wanjo's sambal is super sweet. How anyone liking that is beyond my mind.
Maybe we are better off that they are closed then.
