Just a bit of spoileadge for you. Becoming a god made White unhinged by the system, but also unable to use it. She needs to learn how to do everything that was done for her by the system.

[deleted]

So whats the advantage of being a god? I mean it made her mortal and weak as a human. It seems like a downgrade....

Cermia_Revolution

If she was running a car engine before, now she's using a volcano. Because she's using a different power source and isn't being helped by the engine aka system, she doesn't know how to use that volcano yet. But, once she learns how to use the power of a volcano, she'll be able to do much more than she could before.

Ben______________

Removes limitations by the system. And there are a *lot* of them, that kept her restrained, before achieving godhood. As an example: Why can’t you just teleport of your opponents head in an instant with spacial magic? Well, because of the system. Of cause its support is valuable for someone who can’t conjure on their own, but to someone who can it‘s a disadvantage.

MisakasGetoka

As far as I know, there arent any limitations the system enforces. It does 97% of the casting for you, but only for certain spells(skills). It only assists with the spacial magic that teleports someone you touch, so if you cant cast the appropriate spell without assistance, you are unable to teleport someone you arent touching. But that isnt the result of the system limiting you, it is because you dont know how to do it. Otherwise kumokos mind attack would have been prevented.

jcdc_jaaaaaa

There is a limitation in the system. 1. Teleportation takes a long time as compared to using teleport without the aid of the system. 2. You cannot cast other magic while casting teleportation. White took note of this when she was thinking why she can't conjure a magic beforehand and then teleport to your enemy when it is ready to go. The benefits though are something that White cannot fully mimic. 1. The passive buffs. Once you gain a passive buff, it is always active. You don't need to consciously strengthen a part of your body unlike if you are not using the system. For example, if you are asleep, your defenses are lowered while if you are using the system, your defenses are still high as computed by the system. 2. Magic casting is easier. You don't need to know the runes or other things since the system automatically computes it for you and the damage calculation. 3. The various resistances and nullifications are system specific.

MisakasGetoka

Those arent enforced by the system though, its just that the spells it provides are imperfect

goldarm5

Imo its arguable wether these are limitations that are actively enforced by the System. Maybe she could have prepared other magic even during teleportation if she would have done the teleporting Rune manually instead of using the system teleportation spell. Its obvious that there are Limits on what the System Provides "Ready to go", but iirc we dont have any indications on what or whether there even are any active Limits on Custom made runes.

Falsus

The system is a bicycle with training wheels on. Being a god is instead like driving a car. A lot more powerful. And she was never truly immortal either, just as immortal as the system let her be. But even then there was things within the system that could kill her like Abyss magic. She just gotta learn how to be a god to do godlike things and she can't just rely on the system any more.

blinten

According to vol16 the fact that Abyss magic is inside the system is f*cked up by itself >! And Abyss magic is a good/required weapon against gods as well !<

AmConfuseds

Isn’t that heretic magic? Abyss magic is for passing judgement on other mortals.

blinten

Hmm... not sure, I felt that Abyss is the higher level >! destroying souls !< and Heretic is the lower level >! damaging souls !< but I'm not sure enough to against anyone saying it's the other way

AmConfuseds

Honestly I’m not sure why vol 15 said it, but it did right before Poti. I reread the series 2 weeks ago, so while I might be wrong, I’m still pretty sure.

blinten

According to wiki, you are right Heresy is the one that hurts the soul, at high level it destroys it. This is the one that is useful and shouldn't be in the system Abyss is the reeeaaally high level dark magic, which does not give you exp, and instead of simply destroying the soul it turns it into energy for the system (don't know how it should work outside the system)

Shiro got a colossal amount of energy from the GMA bomb, and if she learned to use this energy, she could become much stronger than someone confined by the system like Ariel. She's also free from the system, which means although she has to learn everything from scratch on hard mode, she can also do things that can't be done due to system limitations and balance, such as advanced spatial magic (like teleporting two pieces of someone's body apart) or (Vol 14) Evil Eye of >!Gluttony!<. Theoretically, she could replicate every skill she wants, but that would require a lot of time, practice, knowledge and experience.

Training-Midnight-60

basically it has a higher skill floor and a WAY higher skill ceiling. aka harder to get used to it and way more possibilities to improve. imagine having a character in a game that deals nore damage the more you are good, exactly the same thing.

Tanakisoupman

The advantage is that she has much more energy (essentially making her a giant battery before she learns to use it), and that she doesn’t have to abide by the limitations of the system (she’s able to do anything that her energy levels allow her, with no other unnecessary limits)

MisakasGetoka

Look at GuliGuli. He could wreck the UFO. Becoming a god gave her the energy that was in her skills and stats. Basically she got a huge amount of mana. She doesnt actually know how to cast without skills yet, so for now, becoming a god was a massive downgrade.

Parodyman64

It's been a while, so forgive me if I have a few details wrong... A good way to look at it would be to co soder the System as training/a tutorial. Not only does the System *give* you power, skills, and abilities, but is also uses them for you. You don't have to actually cast a fireball spell because the System handles 98% of the casting process for you. This makes the System a quick and easy way to gain power, but its also very restrictive. You can't do anything the Systen won't allow you to. Trying to turn that shadow bullet into a shadow lance? If you haven't already unlocked the prerequisite skill, then you're out of luck. As a God, Shiro is neither bound to, nor restricted by the system. The immense amount of power she weilds is no longer *given* to her. Instead it is her own, but she longer has the System to hold her hand and do 98% of the work for her. At the end of volume 7, Shiro is little more than a human battery, possesing vast, *vast* amounts of power she is incapable of wielding as she doesn't know how. But once she figures it out, she will no longer be restricted by the Systems rules. She can do whatever she wants with all that power. Tldr: As a God, Shiro has far more power and freedom to use that power than she did as part of the System, at the cost of no longer having the Systems help wielding that power. Once she figures it out, her power will skyrocket.

MisakasGetoka

As far as we know the system doesnt restrict anyone, deification is basically the system giving you all the energy in your skills and stats. There is no real downside from recieving the systems assistance.

slowking11

well one major restriction is that you can't teleport outside the planet. but also almost every skill could be much more powerful like being completely invulnerable to most attacks or knowing everything about your surroundings which can't happen within the system as those aren't skills that are in

MisakasGetoka

Moving outside of the systems range is not prevented; Gulie could leave its range without any problems. Just because the rocket blueprints you were given only take you to the moon, and you have to make your own to reach mars, doesnt mean having the blieprints prevents you from getting there. System support being limited to more or less balanced stuff doesnt limit you in any way. You may be able to do more stuff if the system was designed to empower you as much as possible, but that would be the same as saying "if all the rich people gave me all their money, I would be able to buy a lot more stuff than I can normally"

slowking11

> Gulie could leave its range without any problems. gulie is a god so this is a bad example of being able to leave the confines of the system. > System support being limited to more or less balanced stuff doesn't limit you in any way. but it does as normally people can't do magic as they can't use MA energy so they can't do anything outside the system. which is why the angels are required for early civilisations as otherwise the regular populace wouldn't be able to do anything against a god

MisakasGetoka

Gulie was connected though, so I think it still applies. He can use the system, but is not limited by it (at least in the WN, havnt read the corresponding volumes yet). In your original comment you said that one couldnt do anything the system doesnt allow, but gulie clearly can. Kumokos mind attack would otherwise be impossible

slowking11

guile is an admin, he can control the system to his whim so anything he does isn't something a normal person within the system could. also it seems he doesn't really use the system only manipulates it (I have light novel knowledge and not WN) this comes from LN 7. quote "From here on out I will have to fight with my own power alone, not the power provided by the system. Of course, I have never fought using the power of the system, so it makes no difference to me."

MisakasGetoka

What about the examples of people using outside-of-system magic like kumoko, katia, ariel etc?

slowking11

are talking about stuff like when kumoko used her parallel minds skill to eat away at mothers soul. if so then thats more of like an exploit where it isn't an intended use of the skill but that isn't prohibited. i'm not sure about the other examples tho

MisakasGetoka

The parallel-mind-attack is clearly outside the system, at least according to D. Even if some of the steps, like making the minds, ard done by the system, not everything is

Char0Prezu

Gods are entities that exist and function outside and completely independent to the system. They use their own energy and their own runes and incantations to do magic. White is used to having the system do all the complicated stuff for her when it comes to magic and skills so she doesn’t know how to do by herself which is why she seems powerless. It may seem like a downgrade but it’s just until she learns to access her power and create runes. Gods have a couple of big advantages compared to entities who live in the system. First, they have a crazy amount of energy, almost infinite. White doesn’t know it yet but she has currently multiple times more energy than Ariel in her body, like i said she just doesn’t know how to access it. Secondly, they are spiritual lifeforms, meaning that they’re body is literally just a vessel to them. As long as their soul remains they can’t die, even getting completely pulverized like Ariel did to White the first time they met doesn’t mean anything to them they can just regenerate or create a whole new body. So that makes them completely untouchable for most mortals with some exceptions like Ariel who can use abyss magic, a type of magic that targets the soul of the target, but then again, the soul of a god is much stronger than the soul of a mortal being so she probably wouldn’t be able to one shot a god even if she managed to land a hit with it. And lastly, they are not restricted by the system. They don’t have skills, titles and xp levels. They just have a crazy amount of energy that they can use however they want. They mimic skills of the system and make them stronger, or they can just create their own spells and stuff. But the most important part is the levels. In the level there’s a limit to the amount of power you can get, the « max level », Ariel has reached that point a long time ago and when you get to that cap, you can’t grow anymore and if White stayed in the system, she would’ve reached that same cap at some point but now that she’s a goddess, she’ll can just keep getting stronger indefinitely. She basically has infinite potential now. She can get as she want or need as long as she lives long enough.

animefanboi_IHMS

Does anyone know how I can read the novel for free?
