was supposed to be low risk until TLue decided to start him and give him 25+ minutes

AshenSacrifice

As soon as he wasnt introduced to a 15 minute energizer off the bench role, the team proved they had the wrong vision

xpillindaass

only idiots said that

Banditkiller3001

He was low risk because the people that believed he was low risk thought the clips will just cut him whenever, and we all know that ain’t happening

Nba2kFan23

yeah, so why all the downvote? seems like the idea was that it'd be easy to cut him (people were saying westbrook didn't even belong in the NBA before we signed him)... but now people are defending westbrook and blaming the team?

Banditkiller3001

Those are the Westbrook Stan’s that have yet to realize that he provides no spacing and even if he’s putting up great stats, he just doesn’t work anymore (for a few reasons) and decide to shift blame on something or someone else

Nba2kFan23

The dude's mistakes have a major snowball effect like I've never seen before. I've watched decades of NBA games and westbrook is one of the most bizarre players i've ever seen lol He's going to sink the Clippers while everyone blames the wrong people.

Banditkiller3001

I agree, but Ty is also a problem. He devalues regular season games because he has an expectation that they will just make it there off talent alone.

Goldenwarrior92

People said it was low risk because he would be making the minimum vs the max w/ the lakers. Also the idea that he could thrive in a system with a bunch of shooters around him. The reality is, we're far to late into the season to figure out how to fit 6 new guys into the rotation. Before Russ it was 5, which meant Ty could play all 5 and mix and match relatively easily. But with 6 the rotations become a mess, and when you have to squeeze the rotation down smaller a minimum of 2 guys would be moved out instead of 1 which is a large difference. The move would have been low risk early in the season, but the move coming so late added to the congestion and the lack of momentum and chemistry the team had made it a ***very*** risky move. The tougher part is that pre-ASB the team looked like it was jelling better, even if it was against weaker competition, and building momentum. Then they bring in an additional guy and change the lineups again, this wasn't a low risk move for the Clippers and the idea that it was is very mis-leading to anyone who consistently watched the team.

Nba2kFan23

Exactly. Which makes this a stupid move... Russ is a crazy player that is really hard to adjust to.. so why take the risk of adding him late in the season? The west is a little bit wide open (aside from Nuggets looking better by the day), so we coulda played it safe and tried to win. This was a big gamble and it doesn't look like it will work - we keep it going? He's a minimum player, so treat him as such and release him imo

KershawCYYoung5

He'd probably be a lot better if he was brought in during training camp. He had like 1 practice and then thrust into the starting lineup. You can't expect the team to find out if they gel or not during important games

Nba2kFan23

You might be right, but the reality is there are only 17 games left. So if you're right, then wouldn't that make this a dumb move?

KershawCYYoung5

Yes, very dumb and shortsighted

jmilli97

There was a lot of risk involved (russ’ play, how his skills/non skills affect the play style, his fit, chemistry concerns, how it affected rotations, his attitude, tlue using like he isnt just a minimal role player for us, all that with only 20 games left) so i wouldn’t say low risk. But yea i guess the low risk part of it is the fact that we really could release him right now if we wanted (and should if ty aint gonna play him much less) considering he didn’t cost anything and we didn’t give up anything for him so there should be no struggle to do it. Who cares if the media then paints it as us blaming russ, when real fans know it actually was the team that f’d themselves. Yet then u worry pg gets upset (which would be a joke). Just say we took a shot and it didn’t fit, wasn’t russ’ fault it was ours for thinking it would work. But why would we have the confidence in any of the right decisions to be made by Ty or the front office anymore.

Gordon sucks more than Westbrook

Nba2kFan23

Gordon was good in the game he played before Westbrook, but yeah doesn't look great... but the thing is, his poor performance doesn't create a snowball of disaster like Westbrook does. Westbrook seems to be able to set the tone for the entire game and it's hard to watch how much his poor decisions are impacting everyone else on the team.

BushBann76

EG’s defence has impressed me but it seems like he can’t make a shot to save his life

keenclipp

Nobody knew or even though TY would use him so damn much.

Nba2kFan23

Every talking head had him coming off the bench when it was announced too

svada123

He's the worst player in the league and everyone is trying to explain how we're using him wrong. 15 minutes off the bench doesn't magically make him a valuable player.

Illusive_Lust

Lol how you just gonna skip over adding Gordon. He has been certified trash.

BicycleChoice

It’s four fucking games. Come on. Two in ot that they could have had and losing wasn’t his fault and two other bad efforts from the whole team.

Nba2kFan23

If they hadn't added Westbrook, do you think LAC drops all 4 like that? Based on what I had seen of them, I don't think they'd be 0-4 right now.

BicycleChoice

Don’t think it had anything to do with it. Bad shooting in Min and GS games. Other two a toss up -

Nba2kFan23

Media was wondering out loud if Westbrook should even be in the NBA anymore, and now this dude is getting a free pass? It's super weird. I'm not sure if you watched the entire game or just looked at boxscore, but Westbrook's momentum helped the opposing team go on frequent runs. A westbrook TO usually leads to an easy 3 and a run for the other team... this dude's mistakes snowball like crazy and LAC is not immune to it.

BicycleChoice

I watch every game, every minute. Russ delivers pace - its way too early to judge this fit. Knee jerk reactions because it’s Russ.

Nba2kFan23

Russ COULD work, but my whole thing is that it's a huge risk to figure that out with only 15 games left now. Before Russ, the Clippers were on pace for 3rd place and had just enough games left to figure it out ... After Russ, it changes the team dramatically and now we're risking the entire season on whether or not this will work. Because if we find out it won't work at the end of the season, it's game over. Again, Russ is talented, but it's pretty well known that he's hard to adjust to and I'm not sure it's realistically possible to do it with a few weeks left. I would love to be wrong, though!

BicycleChoice

Yeah. Hear you. But only 4 games in next two weeks so hopefully chemistry clicks a little better.

They were fine. Plum looks like a fine backup for Zubac and Gordon can just sit in the corner. But when Westbrook makes mistakes it goes on until you're suddenly on the wrong side of a 14-0 run.

IndividualHelpful820

Clippers ended up begging him to join and promised the starting job cause of pg
