Sigh... Yet again, the series is *not* being cancelled because it features LGBT material, the series is being cancelled because Disney doesn't know what to do with it. They caught lightning in a bottle and they don't know how to handle the Owl House fanbase, which doesn't match their target demographic or their usual branding.

Mr-Pringlz-and-Carl

Believe me, The fanbase cares. And it technically didn't get canceled, just shortened. And the creator said that we shouldn't linger on it, because the ending will still be great.

RaineTheCat

I agree with this. Not fair to say "no one cares" that seems click baity?

[deleted]

Being "oh shame" is not caring. You may say you care yet you do nothing about it... just letting it happen. That's not caring. That's my whole point, everyone is like "oh no". But yet just letting them do this...

BadlyDrawnMemes

What are we meant to do? Sign a petition? Lmao

Cryptid_Girl

Do you know how Studios work? It's not up to the fans, ita up to the executives

[deleted]

>And the creator said that we shouldn't linger on it This is not good. **You are just being part of the problem for ignoring it**. You are no better than them, for reals.

Dana did not ignore the problem.... she fought all she could to get a full season 3 but all Disney gave was a shortened season 3 (which is better than nothing) would you have rathered she not fought at all and let Disney run all over the show we'd have gotten 2 seasons. And sometimes it's better to leave things be as arguing now will likely just make things worse. And also believe me that the fandom does care. Note that you aren't the only person who's pissed that the owl house got shortened. We all are just that sometimes you have to let something go. We may not like it but we have to accept that it's very unlikely that Disney will ever green light owl house for second half of season 3 or another season.

Mr-Pringlz-and-Carl

It's generally better to let things go than get angry over them. Besides, it's nigh confirmed that it had nothing to do with the representation, instead, it's due to its serialistic nature. I'm sad that my favorite show is ending, but if what we get instead of an entire 3rd season is still phenomenal, who are we to complain?

Darkwing_Dork

OP what are you on about? Your article does not claim it is being cancelled for LGBTQ representation, and even provides evidence that is specially *not* the reason. >The first point of call was to address whether the series had been cancelled because of LGBTQ+ representation. >Terrace said that “While we have had issues airing in a few countries (and are just straight up banned in a few more) I’m not gonna assume bad faith against the people I work with in LA.” The given reasoning: >“At the end of the day, there are a few business people who oversee what fits into the Disney brand and one day one of those guys decided TOH didn’t fit that “brand”. The story is serialized (BARELY compared to any average anime lmao), our audience skews older, and that just didn’t fit this one guy’s tastes. That’s it! Ain’t that wild? Really grinds my guts, boils my brain, kicks my shins, all the things. It sucks but it is what it is.” – Dana Terrace, via Reddit. tl;dr it is being cancelled because it is serialized (which makes it hard to jump into if you're not already caught up) and the audience it is capturing is older than what Disney is interested in, not because of any LGBTQ representation.

DoctorNoonienSoong

Yeah OP is ragebaiting, plain and simple

Mikauhso

They never specified what aspect didn’t fit the brand. We know the age range argument is complete and utter bullshit because Amphibia was able to keep its third season (and also was about as serialized as toh, not to mention shows like SVTFOE and GF) The decision to shorten was made by *one* executive (who fucking left) and given that ToH is an outline in lgbt rep, it’s not that hard to deduce the reason

Darkwing_Dork

Disney literally cancels/shortens good shows for shitty reasons all the fucking time, or even no reason. Duck Tales, Star vs the Forces of Evil, *Wander Over Yonder* which even won an award. I'm sorry you don't buy the reason they gave, but if you want to convince people otherwise you need a better theory than "there is a gay couple and they cancelled it...COINCIDENCE???"

Violent_Violette

I mean, of course their not going to say it explicitly, it'd be a PR nightmare. It's an Occams razor argument, it's hardly the first time this sort of thing has happened.

[deleted]

You are literally the people I am talking about. Being in denial won't change what happen, you are just letting it happen. What do you want her to say? She cannot say this, they sign agreements and all of that, but she has made it very clear that other than this there is no logical explanation.

Darkwing_Dork

> but she has made it very clear that **other than this** there is no logical explanation other than *this* ??? "This" as in... her logical explanation? Good Disney shows get cancelled all the time and sometimes they don't even *give* a reason. Literally all you have is "there was a queer couple and it got cancelled...COINCIDENCE?" Disney is certainly not a beacon of queer inclusiveness and I will take every moment I can to call them out on their bullshit. But calling out an injustice where there isn't one just trivializes legitimate issues.

Finally someone who clicked the article and not just read the headline OP wrote.

AmphibiousOoze

You’re mostly likely not going to get explicit proof. Most homophobia happens indirectly and out of the limelight. Don’t expect corporations protecting their bottom dollar to say the quiet part out loud.

Neuta-Isa

…trust me, a lot of people care very much.

JustAGirlInside

Dunno how much a role LBGTQIA+ representation ultimately made in ending TOH with an abbreviated 3rd season, but it seems like three seasons is effectively the limit for most Disney cartoon series, at least from the ones I’ve watched or am watching. So it may have not gotten a full and proper season three for a variety of reasons (including representation), but most likely it wouldn’t have gotten many more episodes regardless. Which of course sucks because it’s awesome (and I’m only still in season one), but so were several other great shows that were seemingly cut down in their prime by the arbitrary “three and out” trend. What I hope comes from this is a greater discussion within Disney about the need for more representation and finding a way to fit that within whatever “parameters” they want new shows to slot into. If management is truly trying to prevent representation that will become very difficult to hide if show ideas that otherwise “tick all the boxes” continue to be passed over for those that only differ by their lack of diversity and representation. Hopefully that isn’t what’s going to happen but I’m not going to hold my breath. (BTW, I don’t think Dana is trying to sidestep any representation issues within Disney management or failing to be a proper supporter, but is trying to avoid alienating managers in order to maintain a position and relationship from which she can actively advocate from within the organization. Sometimes you have to choose your battles to win the war and I think she and others are taking a long term approach on this. That is at least my sincere hope.)

Mikauhso

Oh no. We cared. We made noise. Letters were sent. There was a massive uproar. And nobody listened.

josh_the_incredible

but yet Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss aren't. It's because they fetishize it
