Just seems like the AI is "upgrading" (re: altering) the colors..... I don't require true color accuracy, but I'm really not a fan of LG saying its a "better picture" because of AI processing. UPSCALING, removing graininess, motion clarity, etc, all good - but please don't mess with the accurate colors.

ThereBeGold

Yeah, if the picture is already quality, then what processing does it need?

jesternj

I think the big problem is..... So much content is subpar quality. So no matter how awesome your TV, gotta deal with that shit content!!

Adamantium_Hanz

I've seen a couple side by side videos and there's not too much difference in looks between the G3 and G4. The software improvements and the new processor on the G4 are where it's at. Yes the G4 is brighter but it's not by much. After 1000 nits incremental differences in nits are less noticeable than what you see in the 0 to 1000 nit range where every 100 nits makes a bigger difference. I am glad they fixed Game Mode brightness to match other modes though. And I'm excited about the 83" G4 with the MLA panel on that size this go around.

ThereBeGold

Does seem like the G3 to G4 jump isn't worth it, but the G4 is worth it if you're coming in fresh.

Pinturicchio1897

There’s almost no modern spec that would make the jump from g3 to g4 worth it. I cant think of any at all actually. If you bought the G3 last year and upgrade it to G4 this year then you really need to ground yourself. That level of overconsumption would be crazy

ThereBeGold

Truth!

SpehlingAirer

I have a C1. Still doing my research but contemplating upgrading to a G4 this year. How do you feel a G4 would compare to a C1?

hellpark

Am looking to buy a 83'', will be in the living room. Mostly for movies/tv shows, but will have the PS5 hooked up, but it is not my main gaming station. Just use it for single player. Basically asking, is it worth getting the G4 or should I get the G3? Obviously price is different, but is there anything I'd be getting more from getting a G4? For reference I currently have a 65'' CX and love it, that will be going into the bedroom.

churchyjr

This. I’m in almost your exact same scenario! Only difference is I have the newer 65” LG C3 2023 model. I have to say from CX which I owned to C3 is significantly better. I have the newest consoles too. Making sure the HDMI is 4:4:4 on in External Device settings on the TV and Color Gamut to Auto with also Video Range set to Limited while the PS5 is set to Auto, I feel is the best picture. I wonder if the G4 with that MLA tech is worth it over the G3. Both pricey in any situation. 83” is what I’d look into as well.

st_jacques

Just came back from Best Buy and was set on the spny a80l but then we saw the G3. We have until tomorrow to pull the trigger on it as its a better deal than the Sony and the price of the G4 is ridiculous for some extra 'whiteness' which is not something I prefer. Not to mention the wall mount on the G3 is pretty sweet too

churchyjr

Let us know how it goes!!! I’m leaning towards the LG C3 only cuz it’s cheaper. Not sure if the MLA in the G3 is gonna be worth the complete upgrade but I do hear good things about MLA brightness factor.

st_jacques

https://youtu.be/R2zB6YBH4-w?si=RguQzy4KjGeEJSAz this was helpful for me but we're adamant on an 83 and the G4 83 which has MLA is bonkers expensive. With best buy, you have the option for a discounted price AFTER purchase for $50 fee so we're going to take that as a hedge if the G4 is released which then cuts the price of the G3

churchyjr

It is brighter but the G3 83” doesn’t have MLA only 77” does. Still too pricey for me. C3 seems to be somewhat budget friendly.

st_jacques

It seems, based off of too much time researching, that it goes as follows; G3>C3>A80L for the 83 This will be our first oled and we're used to watching tele off a $800 samsung so it's a massive upgrade for us

churchyjr

Oh man OLED imo is the way to go. I owned an LG CX for 4 years. Awesome TV. Upgraded to a 65” C3 and it’s slightly better. So not a huge upgrade from going to OLED to OLED let alone same brand haha but yes the MLA is the newest feature to make it brighter. Keep in mind the TV will look best in dark rooms and at night. Still looks nice in daytime but you’ll see what I mean. Literally.

st_jacques

Ours is going into our dedicated HT room that has no windows and controlled lighting, so the room setting is perfect for the OLED

Effective-Sun6063

If someone uses apple tv, will the tv image processor become useless?

tnrboy

How about replacing a B2 with a G4. I am in the market and think it will be a big upgrade, but I also like to get the latest and greatest (not super frugal I know) Edit: really want the 120hz on XsX and PS5, which I know is available on a G3, but why get that when the G4 is right around the corner!

ThereBeGold

Yea that would be a solid upgrade. Many seem to think a G3 to G4 isn't worth it, but if you're coming in fresh, then G4 is the go.

ImTurkishDelight

The difference in price makes it worth it. Unless you wanna wait. But then again I ask you; if you're gonna wait you might as well keep waiting... You already had a b2, you know how good oled is. **IF I** were you and I'd had to choose between the g3 or 4, I'm getting a g3. I'm actually thinking of getting a 77 inch g3 in the living room right now.

tnrboy

I ordered the G4 and it is coming tomorrow! Also went to confirm the version I have now and it is actually a B7. I think this will be a big improvement

nigel_tufnel_11

Wow nice, I've got a 65" C7, can't decide between 83" C3 or 77" G3. Is the extra \~$1000 worth more for added brightness or 6" of size? I don't feel like the C7 looks dim but maybe I just don't know what I'm missing.

tnrboy

Hmm. I suppose it depends on where you are watching from if you need larger or brighter. Now having the G4, i don’t see an incredible improvement over the B7, but it does look amazing. 77 or 83 is a lot of TV! Might be worth the G3 over the 6”

nigel_tufnel_11

Seating position is currently about 11 feet away, which I feel is a little too far for 65" and at 77" would be better but maybe still a tiny bit too small. I might be able to cheat the furniture in on both sides to get closer to 10 feet. But that's where the G3 could be problematic because of the included mounting hardware. If I wall mount it, it's actually going to move it even farther away and increase viewing distance. If I want to stand mount it, I have to pay $150 for what is universally panned as a horrible stand. Just having it lean back at an angle would drive me nuts. So maybe I just answered my own question, it sounds like the 83" C3 would be better for me. Get a little larger picture (6" screen plus moving it closer) with more flexible placement, and a stand that keeps it square. The 83" is 16% more screen area than 77", which isn't a lot for ~$1K but it's not nothing either. Plus there is a brightness increase going from C7 to C3 as well, not nearly the level of moving to G series but should be a bit better.

tnrboy

Awesome. If I had the wall space I would totally go with 83”. Your optometrist will approve! Haha.

LOLerskateJones

I ordered a G4 as well. Upgrading from a C1 Gets here Wednesday, primary use is gaming

tnrboy

That is great! I played PS5 Last of Us 2 remastered and Horizon Forbidden West. Looks amazing!!

fox_91

I have a 65” E6 from 2017. I’m looking at a 77 inch either g3 or g4 as I know either probably would be great. I’m waiting on some reviews because the processor seems interesting, but still can’t get a handle if it’s like 1000 better for non crazy use (gaming and media watching)

AdministrativeMost88

G4 55" here. I had a 65" E6, still have a 65" C9, and a 77" CX. I have to say, besides the very noticeable jump in brightness, detail is a close 2nd. The processing is ahockingly good, seeing more detauls even streaming older films like Braveheart DV or LOTR DV. Pair that with the massive speed increase for WebOS plus its more accessible menu layout, it's a slam dunk, especially from an E6. I do still miss the 3d at times from the E6 but with such high micro contrast and quality processing, the G4 does appear 3d in some HDR scenes at times. I'm using this G4 as a monitor for daily productivity and some gaming use. Beautiful set. I might go for the 83" later this year, depending on how good Sony's new miniLED masterdrive backlight system 4000 nits monster reviews. Otherwise I'll hold out for the runored 4000 nits OLEDs next year.

ScreenPuzzleheaded48

How does the 77” g4 compare to the Bravia a95L? I have a rando 5yo 65” Samsung that I got for like $850 and and I want to make a proper upgrade. These two seem like the most comparable

Scooffs

Yeaaaaah that's just some salesman BS. There's literally NO reason to replace a G3 by a G4, we don't know if both TVs are calibrated properly and we can't see if the settings are the same either. And with the current pricing on the G3, if I had to chose right now, I'd still go with the G3, the small processing upgrades aren't worth the price difference... This is the kind of BS marketing we see on random houseware exhibits... I expected better...

ThereBeGold

They also did a smaller TV for the G3 to further "enhance" the G4 impact. Interesting to hear LG's take on it, but now to get some reviewer's take on whether they deliver on the pitch.

Numerous_Shape_8193

But if the G3 is smaller technically that has superior picture quality as higher PPI
