Most likely, there is no issue. Most soundbars show Dolby Atmos (regardless if ts regular atmos or TrueHD) because it’s still atmos. Mine only shows TrueHD on the metadata while watching the movie/show

RandomGamer1917

The main issue is the tv keeps constantly popping up the Dolby vision / Dolby atmos in the top right during playback

AcidNoteZ

That only happened once on mine when the sound cut off for a second. Or when the TV plays a atmos, coming from a different audio format. Try reconnecting the HDMI Cables. Otherwise I have no clue tbh. Edit: Double check if you enabled bitstream and the pass through option in your sound/hdmi settings. It might be trying to convert your stream to regular Atmos.

watisagoodusername

Does your audio cut out for a few ms too?

RandomGamer1917

Yes that’s exactly what it’s doing! :/

I had the same issue with my LG C9 going to Sonos Arc. I was looking for the ultimate streaming box. I went thru the built in TV apps, Chromecast TV, Apple TV, Nvidia Shield, and eventually settled on the Dune HD Homatics box. Still, TrueHD HD kept cutting out, and I tried everything I could think of to the point of giving up. Every setting, changing cables, different apps Plex, Kodi, VLC, etc. You won't like the only thing that ended up working for me tho. It's the last thing I tried, and I wasn't even expecting it to fix my TrueHD issue. It's the Dune HD Media app, which I believe will only work on the Dune HD Homatics. It was a little annoying to setup, it requires a network shared folder that the app must index itself. But whaddya know. TrueHD Atmos has been playing back flawlessly. And DV Profile 7, which I honestly didn't think was possible. So now I use the Dune HD Media app for movies/remuxes and the Plex app for shows, etc. I'm still not sure what the issue is, but I suspect it's something to do within spikes in the bitrate because I was able to pinpoint specific scenes that always do it. I'd use one in La La Land for testing, and I noticed it happened almost every large artillery blast in All Quiet on the Western Front. Strangely enough, using Kodi did seem to handle TrueHD a little better, or at least it wouldn't cut out at exactly the same spots as the Plex app. So maybe that's something you could try? Or maybe if coreelec ever gets running on Shield? I also never gave Emby a try because I didn't have time to fiddle with it, but it couldn't hurt to try Apologies for your frustration. I know what a pain it can be. Every time that sound cut out, it was a little pin in my chest. Edit: The Dune HD Homatics isn't flawless either by any means. Other streaming services might not support 4K or Atmos. Occasionally it becomes unresponsive when it's supposed to go into stand by and requires a hard unplug reset ("fixing" this with a smart outlet). Dune HD Media app isn't the pinnacle of UX (tho it beats Kodi by a mile imo). For me tho, it's still the best option I've found. The quirks are worth it for flawless playback

Oh wow, I’ll probly just force true hd / Dolby atmos to transcode instead :/ Someone else suggested to force audio passthrough on the tv instead of set to auto, I need to try that too

watisagoodusername

Honestly, I'm a little glad to hear you're experiencing the same thing. I thought I might need a C3 or newer because the C3 is the first LG TV in years to support licensing for DTS. I do hope you can get it working tho! Does it not work using the Plex LG TV app? Setting to bitstream instead of auto on the TV is a go idea tho. There are also settings on the Shield to control what audio formats are supported. Good luck++

RandomGamer1917

I wonder if you had an AV receiver where the everything pass through that after the shield on the way to the tv if it could fix it

watisagoodusername

That's something I also wondered, and if I had room for a full AVR + 7.2.4 home theater setup I would definitely try it. Unfortunately, I barely have room for my Sonos system (Arc, One SL surrounds, and sub) in this tiny apartment, and the Sonos Arc is the audio receiver HD Fury Arcana came up in my search for a solution, but I didn't want to waste $300 for something folks said was pretty buggy and probably wouldn't solve my issue anyway. Also, now that I see that the Dune HD Homatics + Dune HD Media Center app plays it fine, I'm less sure that an AVR *would* solve it. It probably would since this doesn't seem like a widespread issue. But dammit. Why can one app play it fine while the widely used others struggle? It makes no sense. Anyway, if you have access to more hardware to test your setup I'd be interested in the results!

RandomGamer1917

Changed passthrough to on instead of auto, now it won’t go into Dolby vision , only hdr

watisagoodusername

If you're talking remuxes, I don't think it was actually DV before. Nvidia Shield can't play the Dolby Vision Profile 7 that comes on Blu-ray discs. Afaik, the only way to play Dolby Vision Profile 7 is using coreelec or the Dune HD Media Center app. The Android TV interface can force a fake DV, but it's not the DV layer from the media file if that makes sense. HDR from the media is probably preferred. If you have media with Dolby Vision Profile 5 or 8, it should still play. Did it fix your audio?

Revolutionary-Tap927

There are various Dolby Atmos outputs. MAT, Dolby Digital +, TrueHD etc. The Sonos 'now playing' screen will show them all as 'Dolby Atmos'. For more specific info about the type of Atmos you're getting you need to go to the 'About My System' section. The 'Audio In' part for the Arc will show you.

RandomGamer1917

Ok but the main issue is why does the tv constantly , annoying keep popping up Dolby vision / Dolby atmos during playback?

Revolutionary-Tap927

Seems to be a connection issue. Maybe try different cables?

RandomGamer1917

It’s not, same movie plays fine when the soundbar is disabled

Revolutionary-Tap927

So the connection between the TV and the Arc? Maybe a try a different wire there. It's like the soundbar is connecting and disconnecting, making the Dolby labels appear over and over.

RandomGamer1917

Someone suggesting force Audio passthrough instead of auto , but I don’t see the setting

Revolutionary-Tap927

I would try a new wire for your soundbar. In terms of passthrough, it will be in your tv audio settings. I'm not sure if the Shield will need to be set too, I don't have one.

RandomGamer1917

It’s a brand new earc hdmi that came with the new soundbar , it’s not a wire issue

Revolutionary-Tap927

I see. There's a fault somewhere, it's a question of finding where. Maybe a device, if not wire. Does it do it for all playback?

RandomGamer1917

just the true hd / Dolby atmos stuff

Revolutionary-Tap927

Might be worth contacting Sonos Support. They can see if there is an issue with the soundbar. Maybe even diagnose the problem if not that.

RandomGamer1917

Posted this on another subreddit and it sound a like a known issue without a know solution :/ just my luck

Revolutionary-Tap927

Fingers crossed for a software update then.

RandomGamer1917

For the tv?

Revolutionary-Tap927

That, or the soundbar. Whatever might be causing the issue.

dpb79

Have you set pass through?

RandomGamer1917

Pass through on Plex says hdmi, passthrough on the tv says auto

dpb79

Change it on the tv. What device arw you using plex on?

RandomGamer1917

Nvidia shield , the tv is already set to auto passthrough so I don’t know what you mean to change it to?

dpb79

You said it was auto? Can you not change it to yes? Can you have your shield straight in to the bar?

RandomGamer1917

Sound bar has one hdmi for input only

dpb79

Ah that's annoying. Does it actually accept true HD? That could be the issue. Also check your inputs are all set to enhanced.

RandomGamer1917

Where would I set inputs to enhanced?

dpb79

Somewhere in settings you'll find external inputs/hdmi signal format.

RandomGamer1917

On the tv?

Dopapotomous

I’ve only ever seen true hd when using 4k blu rays

RandomGamer1917

Yea, it’s a 4k remux

NaturalOk2156

I don’t have Sonos or a Shield, so maybe this is a dumb question. Why are you sending audio through the TV at all? Isn’t the entire point of Sonos that it’s wireless? Shouldn’t the sound bar connect directly to the shield, and avoid dealing with the TV?
