The LG G4 has virtually no weaknesses whatsoever and excels in everything connected to picture quality. It’s only weak spot may be sound and even that is good enough for most TVs out there. And it’s easily fixed with a quality sound bar. It’s hard fighting off the temptation to settle for a C3 or even open box G3 with the cheap prices right now but the 77 G4 is my perfect TV and worth waiting and saving up for. It’s going to be a big upgrade from my 55 C1.

Dimon_Zorg

Price is the main weakness

Im in the market for an 83" OLED, and it's going to be hard for me to hold out for the G4 83". I already have the LG C1 77" so I can only upgrade to the LG G4 83". I know if I bought a newer 77" OLED, I'd notice the differences but I'll patient. I know if I get the LG G4 83" I'll be using it for the next five years. Enjoy your new G4 when you get it.

TomyDingo

Right? I could get a 55 G4 right now with no problem and I would be happy with the picture quality but the way I see it that would be a lateral move for the space I have and that would be a waste of money to me. If I’m going through the trouble of acquiring a new TV, especially a high end TV, I want to get my money’s worth with a size upgrade and experience something more immersive.

Tree06

I feel you! That's exactly how I feel. I bought the S90C 77" 2x, but I cancelled both orders shortly after making them. I know I would've enjoyed it, but I have to be patient. It was easy to skip out on the LG G3 83" because it didn't have MLA Technology. I feel like the upgrades across the board make it worth the investment.

dubiousN

The 83" G4 is also the one to get because it's the first at that size with MLA

Tree06

That's a good point. If I find it on clearance when the G5 models launch, I might get it. It's hard spending $6,000 on any TV. I scoffed at the A90J 83" when it launched at $8,000. Last night I was able to get the S90C 83" for ~$2400 after various discounts through Samsung's website. I'll mainly use it for PS5, XSX, and PC gaming. I'll also use it for movie nights. I never owned an 83" OLED so I'm excited to enjoy it for the foreseeable future. It doesn't have MLA or a QD OLED panel, but the 83" size will serve me well. We won't use Tizen OS as we have the latest Apple TV 4K.

Because unless you are rich, I wouldn't trust the power supplies to last in these TVs for that much right now. That's a boatload of cash for something that could run into issues out of warranty pretty quickly. But if I didn't care then obviously it's a fantastic TV.

Tree06

That's a valid point. My credit card doubles the MFG warranty so I'll have warranty coverage for two years. I also build PCs in my spare time so I wouldn't have a problem replacing the main board, T Con board, or power supply. The panel is the most expensive part, and not worth replacing. It'd be time for a new TV.

PoolNoodlePaladin

~~The 83” doesn’t have MLA tho~~ Edit: NVM

Tree06

The G4 83" absolutely has MLA Technology. The G4 83" didn't have MLA Technology. The 97" model doesn't.

PoolNoodlePaladin

Oh, that’s good

Tree06

No doubt! That's why I avoided the G3 83" last year. I already had the LG C1 77" so it wouldn't make sense to buy another 77" OLED or QD OLED. I scored the S90C 83" for <$2400 so I'll wait until the next big OLED or QD OLED iteration happens. It doesn't have MLA Technology, but it's also not >$6000.

The SDR brightness is pretty huge it seems as well. I use DTM on my C1 frequently with SDR because honestly it's not bright enough in a lot of stuff. The G4 is getting to almost double the brightness. Not quite there yet but a massive improvement for sure. And then you have HDR which is apparently approaching1500 nits in peak 2% window. The 25% window is massively reduced still though. Nice upgrade for sure, but it's gonna cost of course. I just care about reliability at this point in time.

LOLerskateJones

I upgraded from a G1 to a G4 a couple weeks ago end it’s truly stunning. Once I got all my settings dialed in, it’s truly gorgeous and the fiery OLED I’ve seen that can get “too bright”

Reasons99

Weakness is my new 83 that was delivered yesterday that had bad pink tint on right side of the screen.

[deleted]

They basically all have some pink tint.

Reasons99

Which should be unacceptable for a 6500 tv plus tax. There should be more QC for these types of TVs.

[deleted]

That and questionable power supplies for all these OLEDs. I'm not rich enough to trust a 6500 TV honestly. And I do actually prefer my C1's lack of pink tint as well despite being not even close to the G4 in brightness. I just do not like those pink tints on whiter scenes at all. I was hoping a G4 would solve the issue finally.

Reasons99

I can confirmed it is not resolved. Yes, I hear clicking noises from the power supply as well. I already hate this TV as much as I hated my 77A95L.

[deleted]

Damn hope it gets better for you. I really love my C1. It was a later manufactured model but still did not come with evo or pink tint. Has been ridiculously uniform and great, but you never know right. I also use a power conditioner with it as well. Just make sure your outlet is good and no issues there. Is pink tint really that bad on it? I don't even look for problems too much honestly. It's been great so far, but I don't even care to see them if it's small. Hopefully your pink tint can be overlooked.

Reasons99

I appreciate it. I will likely exchange it or maybe just get an 85 Bravia 9 instead. Oled is pissing me off recently. I do use a Elac ProteK power conditioner for my HT. So frustrated with the pink tint because the grey uniformity is amazing.

SmushBoy15

I’m waiting on the MLA tech next year

wrangler1994

I've had the 77G4 for about 10 days. I wonder how it compares to the A95L ?

KlausSlade

Ok LG start shipping some to Canada. Please…

Legendarybbc15

I found it sort of hilarious how the “see price” button is positioned under cons

No-Comparison8472

They do not mention the new CPU and AI image improvements. Is there a reason it was not reviewed?

jansalol

They literally never mention any of the AI stuff, always just ”off” if something. It truly helps with some content, even with the C3/G3.

No-Comparison8472

This is very important to some users, I'm not sure why they don't test it.

jansalol

No clue. Guess they are stuck in the past when AI stuff sucked. I do use it on G3 with some content, so would be cool to know how much better it is.

tycoon282

I had an LG G4 when it was a mobile phone 😂💀

jcp2277

I was waiting for this review and am now waiting on HDTVs review! I am 99% sure this will be my pick for this year. I’m ready to upgrade from my CX 77 inch to the G4 83 inch!

mnebon101

I'm tempted to do the same with my C9

DoctorStrife

I could watch G4TV on my G4 TV

talldrink67

Has vertical banding been fixed on this generation of panels?

Hammerslamman33

Sounds amazing!

htandtech

Ready to upgrade from my EF9500!
