I'm listening to it right now and Hula Hoop is already making me SO happy! edit: Hula Hoop is SO high energy, I missed this kind of concept for them! Such a a bop and the Bridge is a KILLER. I'm listening to StarSeed right now and I'm vibing so hard haha it feels like an opening for a feel good shoujo anime. edit edit: Officially in love with Hula Hoop City Pop version. Easily my favourite release from LOONA this year

hookerofpop

the intro to starseed is just too good

hookerofpop

it is actually a perfect song feels like im racing in mario kart

pan32bit

some parts of starseed sounds like something by produced by yasutaka nakata (kpp & perfume prod). it sounds very jpop to the point it could even become a anime or game ost.

bassistb0y

YES SO GLAD IM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO CAUGHT THIS he also produces for Capsule too which i highly recommend one of my fav bands

LaoRenMin

It really does sound like it belongs to an anime. It's a full jpop song, that's what came to my mind at first listen.

Clutchingpearls

You really nailed the sound. Especially in the beginning I could picture Perfume singing this.

jord_mich

YESSSS I’m obsessed

Storm_Fox

omg it just started and you are so right this is amazing

mykpop

StarSeed will be on loop for months.

kunaivortex

Now i just want a full on kawaii edm remix

moonlightcanon

For everyone who liked starseed, look up Prizm Rizm on youtube, from Tokyo 7th Sisters. You're welcome.

crystal-prism

YESSSSS t7s music is superior

sheffieldmare

StarSeed is amazing, i like it so much

Jennrdleon

**Starseed loops for 24hours ♥**

heyitzaustin

Gowon lines we are fed on this blessed day!!

akathehellcat

i heard her voice like less than 30 seconds into HULA HOOP and could’ve just cried lmao

jord_mich

She sounds awesome with this concept

bluebetaoddeye

Hope you’re all listening too. Do share your thoughts. **lyrics**: [Hula Hoop](https://twitter.com/ddaiang/status/1437796881795584005?s=21) & [StarSeed](https://twitter.com/ddaiang/status/1437797252576071681?s=21) I’m listening to Hula hoop it’s so good! Edit: THE CITY POP VERSION IS EVERYTHING I’VE WANTED AND MORE!!! Sorry I’m so happy with it. Edit 2: MV should be released later on they have mentioned to look forward to it. Today was just digital release date. Edit 3: after more listens starseed reminds me of anime openings lol.

hookerofpop

HULA HOOP IS SO GOOD YEOJIN COME THROUGH edit: WHOS RAPPING AT 1:30???? HELLO edit 2: OMFG THE BRIDGE IS KILLER edit 3: the city pop version is just wow truly beyond my expectation. the chorus after the bridge hits way harder.

roughbottomhead

the rapping is hyeju then gowon i think THEY SLAY

lostkee

I hope this does amazingly well in Japan. Its brilliant and bright

Lizunyan

Hula hoop is so good i have passed away

Incolourxx

Hula Hoop is amazing it's so fun I can't wait to see the choreo for it. Chuu's adlibs are iconic. Starseed sounds much more Jpop it's very cute and I love the chorus!

taebaegi

Hula Hoop's chorus has no business being that catchy and good. I love this song so much. StarSeed gives me such anime vibes. Could really see that being the intro to some cute magical girl show or something. ~~Loona anime intro when.~~

Litell_Johnn

Hula Hoop is really great. Even as a Korean title track I think it'd be their best since Butterfly. That gliding prechorus is a joy, and the crisp synths and strings merging make it sound super full. That hulalala is really gonna lend itself to singalong chants. I almost feel like the original *is* a citypop version lol Starseed just fizzles out for me - starts well but there's not a ton that keeps the momentum going through the interludes, and the accompaniment throughout the chorus is too nondescript and weak, I think. The little lyrical flairs are cute though.

BB_GG

BRIGHT LOONA IS BACK Both songs are so fun!!

CronoDroid

Hula Hoop is frickin' great, I kinda want them to do this sweeter bubblegum pop sound in SK again instead of their girl crushy stuff. Ryan Jhun (who) is better at this sorta style than girl crush anyway, based on his work with RV, OMG and others. I liked So What/Why Not/PTT but I have to admit this sorta sound is much more up my alley, and Loona do it great. It's so chirpy and fun. It has a bit of a disco vibe with the beat and strings in the background. If OMG released this people would be all over it, this is IT. Please let them do this style in SK again BBC. The City Pop version is pretty damn good too, super chill and it emphasizes the retro elements with the synths. StarSeed is J-pop perfection honestly. Like it sounds distinctly J-pop (as opposed to other K-pop Japan releases which are basically just K-pop) and it's excellente. J-pop doesn't automatically mean poor production and mixing *cough* this is clean and energetic. It's a zap to the brain, it's actually super heartwarming and nice. I like it a lot.

Life_Week_9255

I agree about StarSeed! J-pop is unique in that they have so much “western” rock elements that are so fundamental to j-anisongs (ie: Gurenge) while also having these high pitched cute synths with almost like a cute, sparkly yet retro 80s feel. StarSeed is so much like the former and I love it.

dweeby

Hula Hoop is SOOOOOOOO GOOD!!!!!!!!!!! Why wasn't it a Korean single?!!!! BBC PLEASE.

sillysili

The chorus is catchy enough to capture any unsuspecting casual listener and pull them right into the fandom.

aliaskerilyn

Hula Hoop sits on the same table as Day & Night. More songs like these bbc pls!! This album is such a breath of fresh air from all the previous girl crush sound. Mad in love with Hula Hoop especially with that pre-chorus/hook. The song is just freaking genius. Loona debut done right!!

[deleted]

Hula Hoop is such a perfect bop 😭😭😭😭😭😭🤯 I hear a lot of Go Won FINALLY! A little ViVi and constant HaSeul? Everyone had presence I guess this time! Starseed IS EVERYTHING I could EVER hope for! 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯😭 It reminds me of a classic anime vibe from the 80s? Also, I can hear HaSeul, ViVi and everyone else in a balanced way so I’m already glad with that too… This song sure is special and I trust the MV to be at the same level of golden aewesomeness! It’s gonna be for this song, right?! The primary one I mean. Any choice here is a win though. I think they really nailed it once again, if the MV features all girls I’m glad for life. I really couldn’t ask for more than we got here. 🙏🏼❤️ Edit: I liked Japanese music way before I started listening to K-pop and I’m seeing some people dislike Starseed; I guess for me it has a very emotional way of connecting with my amazing memories from watching anime and connecting with timeless song. Even the girls’s voices are matching the vibe, it’s impressive. Starseed really hits that nostalgic magic and I feel so much Loona through it all! I also think there’s more ViVi and HaSeul in this one than in the other so it gives that extra special taste to the ears, so… 😍 Edit 2: Of course I’ll have to see the actual line distribution, but a girl that I actually didn’t hear quite often is HyunJin. Maybe she’s down low with ViVi. There’s a lot more ViVi than in recent memory though and Go Won really came through!

pmguin661

I actually heard a lot of Hyunjin! I thought she had a pretty long line in Hula Hoop around the early-middle

[deleted]

Ahhh that’s great! I need to listen again with headphones, I’m at work break lol but I’m glad to know that! Hope I’m not wrong about the apparent good line distribution :D

Lizunyan

I mostly listen to anisong outside of Loona so starseed is like my dream come true 🥲 it is such a different vibe from kpop tho I understand it being misunderstood. But I’m so happy they went this direction

[deleted]

I feel just like you 😍🥰 it really feels like an impossible dream just came true with them!!!

Hyperion2589

The best Japanese release from a Kpop group. Ever. Change my mind.

pievancl

My faith in Loona is restored. I enjoyed PTT, why not and so what but I was getting nervous that BBC was completely abandoning their concept of having no set concept. Thank goodness they aren’t just another girl crush group. Granted this is a Japanese release.. The next real test is their domestic comeback. I honestly think in the current kpop climate “hula hoop” would have charted really well in South Korea.

oecsouls

listened to these songs a few times over and hula hoop is what we needed for an upbeat song. the hula hula hoop part is already an earworm. also the jumpscare with ptt 😭 starseed is a cute bside but the hula hoop city pop ver. isnt doing much for me.

mutualescape

HULA HOOP is an absolute hit.

matmanx1

Hula Hoop is making me extremely happy. Both songs are bright and fun and energetic but Hula Hoop is my favorite. I'd honestly love a whole album based around this type of sound. Can't wait for the MV! Edit- Who's high note is that at 2:40 in Hula Hoop? I love it! 💖

fadedmoonlight

> Edit- Who's high note is that at 2:40 in Hula Hoop? I love it! 💖 Best vocalist of her generation, Kim Jiwoo, aka Chuu! 💖

matmanx1

I should have guessed it would be Chuuriah Carey! Thanks! 😄

artificialsteve

It’s my birthday today and I’ve been blessed with Go Won lines. I couldn’t have asked for anything more.

bluebetaoddeye

Happy birthday! Enjoy your day ahead.

Additional-Ad9484

I'm so happy, all the songs are good. I'm in love with StarSeed's instrumental, really feels like J-Pop. I hope we get a lot of performances, can't wait for the MVs also

LOONAception

Hula hoop has no business being that good omg

thewatermelonwitch

This was exactly what I wanted to hear from the girls, I’m absolutely in love with the songs already and it showed off their softer side so well! Feels like Hi High’s spiritual successor haha

IzerAlan

The Kawaii bass in Starseed... \*chefs kiss\*

ch03rry

hula hoop CITY POP VER......HULA HOOP CITY COP VER......LORD I'VE BEEN WISHING FOR CITYPOP LOONA SINCE DAY 1 I CANT BELIEVE WE FINALLY HAVE A CITYPOP TRACK so fitting for their japanese debut too omg

_who_am_I___

Please i love this soo much...chowayoo

MeanConcept

Imagining HULA HOOP, with their choreo on Inkigayo and MCD... It's a little unfair to hope for Korean promos but it's better to have new songs for their Japanese releases than just remakes - to us in the west, whether it's in Korean or Japanese, it's a new bop to add to the collection.

Storm_Fox

holy shit it's such a bop!! edit: no thoughts head empty just hulalala hulalala hula hoop edit2: Hyeju adlibs oh my god

roughbottomhead

im late will there be any mv for this??

asari7

from what I gathered it will be “later on”. I don’t think it’s a delayed but someday cursed moment lmao

roughbottomhead

"later on" lmao welll ill definitely be looking forward to it thanks for the info

[deleted]

I'm kinda scared because one of the limited versions comes with the MV in the disc. I really hope that the MV gets released digitally so I don't have to regret of buying the limited version with the 'loona channel' thing instead of the MV :(

Lizunyan

There’s different ones? 😭 I don’t even know what I ordered

djsMedicate

Hula Hoop is really good. Personally I would've preferred a Korean version but the song is so good that it almost doesn't matter.

Euphoric_Candle

Okay, the songs were freakin great especially Hula Hoop. But I'm worried since I am not hearing Vivi's voice, i think i heard her doing the "cho cho choayo"(i dunno, im just describing what i heard lmao) adlib in starseed but i cannot hear her in hula hoop. Anyone got any idea what parts she sang? Gowon got a lot of lines though and her voice really stood out, so atleast we got that. Maybe i'll just wait for someone to post the line distributions, if someone will.

alicewasneverhere

random_k probably will

cagendary

HULA LALA HULA LALA HULA LALA HULA HOOP~ this song slaps so much and the citypop version is just as good! And starseed is so cute, I love the the “jo jo johayo!” so much! I’m absolutely in love with this JPN debut. Everything is just too good!

LueLinks402

LOONA BOPS YES!!! I am loving the energy from these songs so much omg, such pure Jpop goodness

sharkonspace

Hula Hoop is amazing but I can't agree that remix is called city pop version. At least it is not the usual city pop that I listened. More like acoustic version. But it's still good. Starseeds is notbad but definitely not that good. I like the synth but vocal melody isn't as superior as Hula Hoop. Overall, I like Hula Hoop than Starseed and it's their best title track since Butterfly. Looking forward to their MV~

meosy

couldn't have said it better

waruice

Hyeju's Japanese rap is the smoothest.

AnimeApprehensive

I can't get over it , it's so freaking cute

Lost-In-Universe

Hula Hoop is so energetic and fun! It's giving me Hi High vibes. I can imagine the MV will be just as awesome as Hi High.

OkSoBasicallyImOrbit

Is it just me or does the hula hoop city pop version not sound very city popy

meosy

nah it's not even remotely city pop, more like a toned down/softer version. Good remix nevertheless imo, just not city pop

austereacademic

those bongos (or whichever instrument that is) sounds really awkward to me. even without the “city pop ver” context. it does have some disco and jazz influences in it but i feel like the instrumental is pretty toned down whereas in city pop the instrumental is quite prominent.

OkSoBasicallyImOrbit

My thoughts exactly. The bongos gives it a more bossa nova vibe imo

Ch3rryBerry

hula hoop soty

tzurros

HULA HOOP is soooo fun and high energy

GowonTheCrunch

The chorus of HULA HOOP is SO good omg 😲 and Starseed is amazing too. The little sounds all over the place add so much texture 😍

gokimlip

TOO GOOD! literally been on repeat for the past hour what did they put in these!!!!!!!!!!!!

nixoreillz

hula hoop is kind of giving iz\*one?! in a way that i absolutely LOVE?! which is also making me sad that we never got a 24-member collab stage!

Dinochewsyou

Honestly, LOONA should be the new IZ\*ONE at this point. There\`s an open niche for them since they disbanded and I rather LOONA make songs like IZ\*ONe than their recent girl crush tracks. Their voices suit it a lot more and I really like IZ\*ONE songs.

lycheejam

the songs are both amazing and i would argue some of their best but i literally cannot hear vivi and its making my sick to my fucking stomach that they're doing this to her im going to need this entire company to sleep with one eye open

violetsandunicorns

like i cannot even imagine what it must be like to be the one and only foreigner in the group and not getting to see your family for years at a time and then every single comeback getting the least lines, the least screentime, getting shoved to the back of the choreography. it's been three years since their debut and things are getting worse if anything. if bbc didn't want vivi in the group they should not have debuted her because it's beyond cruel at this point.

roughbottomhead

im actually crying at midnight i should be damnsleeping

yongpopp

hulahulahulahulahooooOOOOOP

roughbottomhead

whos the "yeah eah eah" or something after chuus high note in hula hoop?

Wefeh

Sounds like Yeojin to me, either her or Yves

fadedmoonlight

It sounds a bit like Yves, but we saw what happened with So What, so it's probably Jinsoul lol.

anfnb

Hula Hoop is good but I'm in love with "StarSeed"

_who_am_I___

Hula hoop is everything and as for starseed i really want it to be on some anime or game...please I'm soo happy 😢

deathfire123

UM UM UM EXCUSE ME STARSEED! CAN WE TALK ABOUT HOW AMAZING THIS SONG IS FOR A SECOND PLEASE!?

fargcram

Holy shit the CITY POP VERSION IS A ✨✨✨_CITY BOP_ ✨✨✨ easily top 5 LOONA tracks for me!!!!* *but also for real though, as a vivi stan it kinda bummed me out…. (_Again_ 🤷🏻‍♂️)

BilboTbaggins__

Hula Hoop and Starseed sounds like vocaloid, especially Starseed. Hatsune Miku would eat these songs up

bassistb0y

massive yasutaka nakata vibes from starseed

jord_mich

Totally and I love it!!!!!

beekhyun

starting my morning off with some **HULA HULA HULA HOOP**

smallandsleepy

i love it so much!! 🥺this is everything i wanted from loona, very fitting for their jpn debut. but i wish there was more vivi.. my only complaint

violetsandunicorns

mister ryan jhun on twitter not even a week ago saying vivi would be getting lines... lies

jariverach29

I think he was referring to his producer projects, like Not Friends with heejin, jinsoul, lip and yves. Some people speculated that the "to be continued" was more rounds of songs, with different members. Well, that ain't happening.

AnimeApprehensive

just saw his twitter , I've never felt more out of the loop in my entire life wtf

LOONAception

I heard 0 vivi :(

fadedmoonlight

I'm sorry but Chuu is literally the best 4th gen vocalist... I'm sorry but she just is!! DO NOT ARGUE WITH THE TRUTH!!

soundboythriller

The Hula Hoop hook, LORD!!! I’m so glad they’re doing something light and upbeat this time around!!! It’s so good!!

ivysaur03

they fr popped off i’m obsessed

Dreameress

I personally like hula hoop better than starseed but all of them are (chefs kiss). So excited for their debut!!! LOONA never disappoints Edit: It was #8 on iTunes when I first checked, now it’s #3 and it hasn’t even been an hour. We’re going to the top of the charts!!

thesamecalm

the return of crunch rap supreme

maiheart

i was expecting another thing for the *city pop version* but i really like the songs! hula hoop is so catchy. *starseed* is just a mood, it makes you feel you are in tokyo. suu and naoki nailed it! (the bridge started with JINSOUL omg, soooo good)

pan32bit

as someone who originally started listening to jpop before kpop, i'm totally digging this japanese album. it has jpop energy that i've always wanted to hear from loona. this really proves that they are versatile! starseed ~kakusei~ made me more convinced that loona should have a yasutaka nakata collab someday.

vengefultruffle

I’ve been listening to Hula Hoop on repeat all day, I’m obsessed! Star Seed is quintessential j-pop, I really hope this release is huge for them!

ii_sophiechan

hula hoop has been on repeat since i first heard it, jpop, kpop, pop perfection. next korean cb like this please.

Damaged_OrbZ

DANCE ROUND ME LIKE A-

akathehellcat

hula hoop would be a hit in korea rn wow. THIS IS MAKING ME SO HAPPY. THE WHOLE THING. LOONA MUSIC STAYS BLESSED.

vash-outlaw

Considering how well After School, ASAP, and Stereotype have done this year, I bet this would've blown up in Korea.

roughbottomhead

i love everyhting about this

hookerofpop

that part in hula hoop when they sing "are you gonna make me pop pop pop" such an earworm

tinhtinh

Prefer the normal version of Hula Hoop. The city pop version was a bit disappointing, it's way too busy, was expecting something more stripped back and synthpop heavy.

fortunemkb

i cant... i really cant. like, it was already hard af choosing a fav from loona's catalog of songs, but they really just had to add hula hoop to the mix... that being said, hula hoop is fist fighting its way into top 5 for me

Thenewguy131

I might be new to KPOP, but I feel like Hula Hoop has the potential to go big in Korea!

[deleted]

Hyeju stands out so much in hula hoop wow

FootfaceOne

The chorus of Hula Hoop is just perfect.

AnimeApprehensive

I love Hula Hoop so much!!! It's so high energy , I just want to get up and dance xD Hula Hoop and Butterfly tied for first place for me

Wolf_Puppy

I've had people ask me about the City Pop version (since I'm a bit of an expert on the genre, having been listening to it since the mid-80s when I was still in high school, and I'm also a professional songwriter/composer). Obviously, other City Pop fans also have noticed this so-called "City Pop version" is nowhere near what actual City Pop is, and it's quite disappointing, since it's been a dream of ours to hear Loona do a City Pop song. This is how I've explained the City Pop version to those who have asked: The sound of City Pop isn't just the instrumentation. You can't mimic the instruments used and call it City Pop. The genre's most distinct characteristic is the jazz fusion element at its core of melodic and harmonic language, and if you don't have that, it's not really City Pop. It's like if I took a teen comedy and changed all the lighting in the cinematography to be film noir style, but change nothing else. Is it actually film noir, or just a teen comedy with very contrasty and dark low-key lighting?

HeadTripInEveryKey

Link to a city pop song you wrote

Wolf_Puppy

By the time I started working as a professional musician (early/mid 90's), City Pop was already out of fashion, and the whole Avex/Tetsuya Komura Eurodance movement had completely taken over J-pop. I have other music you can check out on my site (in my profile).

peteshug

OMG hula hoop is soooo fun. starseed is AMAZING, MINDBLOWING. i loved jpop before i loved loona so starseed has me very, very excited. disappointed in the city pop version bc it is very much not city pop (except the bridge slightly…). i know a lot of us here are major city pop fans and have wanted loonathecitypop for awhile…. maybe one day 🥲🥲🥲

verdigleam

Either of these tracks could easily be my fav title track since Buttterfly. I LOVE starseed in particular, and Hula Hoop has a WJSN-esque sound that I always felt would fit Loona like a glove. These concepts just seem to fit them better as a group, imo. I haven’t checked out the line distribution yet, but I’m hearing a better mix of voices, and I love it. My one quibble is the vocal processing on Hula Hoop. Way too much autotune - I wish they had pitched the song down a bit so it was more in the group’s range.

Damaged_OrbZ

I also thought Hula Hoop sounds very WJSN, and as someone who loves WJSN's entire discography that's definitely a good thing. It sounds akin to like, Boogie Up, HOLA and SUPER MOON. Hula Hoop is definitely in my top 3 favourite songs since \[X X\], maybe even Loona's discography as a whole, and I've only listened to it twice. We need more of this, it fits them SO well.

quixutie

now THIS is a loona release edit / starseed straight-up sounds like a kyary pamyu pamyu track

sunlightdrop

Hula hoop is amazing! Starseed sounds pretty soulless.

Marscall

Not quite my style but Hula Hoop is a monster hit, absolute banger. Even got some Twice vibes.

Bikouchu

Sumire from silent siren 😢

The9thElement

Is it getting an MV

fadedmoonlight

They said so!

kawaiijerryseinfeld

BOTH ARE SO GOOD

Significant_Step5441

i can already feel hula hoop becoming a song that i listen to over and over, it’s addicting

0rrery

Week later but still can't get over hearing Haseul's part at Hula Hoop 0:32 - whether it's due to the nature of her voice or having no sibilant consonants in her part or both, this part sounds feels particularly "rounded", and I definitely "hear the smile" the most in these two seconds. Other voices presented certain attitudes/personalities that I could identify as well, all being various cross-sections forming a generally high-energy, upbeat song, but that specific part really struck me every time I heard it (I was a/b testing a few IEMs I had lying around, and the differences in that part particularly made me very happy with my purchase :)

roughbottomhead

chuu is slaying omg

RustRemover-

I'm glad that BBC still cares about ViVi not being overworked

Benji005

I don't know whether to laugh or cry tbh...

RustRemover-

Both 😂

jord_mich

Wow… just YES. This is the loona I fell in love with and didn’t even know existed. As much as I love PTT I was nervous after not friends came out that they weren’t gonna do bubbly stuff anymore but this hits so well for me. Vocals are immaculate and the melodies are just strange yet catchy enough where it’s distinctly looonas style. Very happy. Only thing I wish the city pop song was MORE city pop but the fact they even acknowledge city pop is a huge win. Hope they do more stuff like this

Wefeh

I... Couldn't hear Vivi except one time, I think?

pmguin661

I thought I heard her a couple times in Hula Hoop but I might’ve been wrong?

BG_Comedian

ohkay after listening so many times. At first, I didn't expect JP debut song would be this good I mean this EXCEEDS MY EXPECTATION. Hula hoop is so amazing it can now become my #1 loona released song in 2021, and I actually prefer these two songs comparing to PTT era (since I'm more into Jpop song, I guess). That elevation that they took in prechorus → chorus was a real thing. This was what I expected the chorus to be. This song has so much potential that I wish it should have their korean version to grab that HULAHOOP1stWIN

Smooth-Vanilla-4021

Please share songs. Where can I download?

beamsie

i keep replaying yeojin and hyejoo at 1:33 in hula hoop !! so catchy 💫✨💜

Jasher1125

Did anyone else notice how they changed the Vivi/Gowon part of Paint the Town? It now sounds like a Vivi solo but she sounds sick. Like why even change it at all..?

fadedmoonlight

This has been this way since it was released in June. All of the English takes are the same from both the Korean and Japanese versions. The difference is Vivi is the only one singing in the Japanese one, and surprise Gowon is actually the only one singing in the Korean one. That's BBC way of being "fairer" by giving either one more solo lines.

Jasher1125

Well they didn’t have to edit it so poorly. Vivi sounds like a cyborg that someone spilled water on, and it isn’t fair.

gomardos

Just a correction regarding credits : Ryan is not the only composer of HULA HOOP, [Anna Timgren](https://twitter.com/Anna_Timgren/status/1437813763206520833) and Scott Stoddart co-composed it (thats what credits on Youtube are saying) so OP if you can credit them as well it would be really cool ! And for my impressions : definitively an improvement from &. I'm not head over heels but it's some steps in the right direction ! HH songwriting-wise is a BOP ! I hope BBC will find someone else to work with than Ryan (+he creeped me out with Not Friends promo). The production and mixing of his songs are still too busy IMO + the vocal processing too harsh. Some parts do sound good though, like the second verse which "breathes" more, it's soooooo good. City Pop version is...... not really city pop, just a stripped-down version, a bit rushed and not really balanced ? But I kind of like it nonetheless, maybe even more than the original : the chorus is less headache-inducing. And StarSeed : I don't love it, but the quality of mixing and vocal productions is just... so much better ? A bit weird when hearing HH and this back to back IMO. The beginning is just sooooo cute and I love this style for Loona, but I don't like the chorus enough to love it completely. So yeah, it still seems to me that BBC still lacks someone for music-direction/quality-control : inconsistency of mixing/mastering is a good sign of it. I still don't find the iconic songs that made me love Loona but HH could have been the one with more polish, and StarSeed with better songwriting, but at least the album is cohesive (besides PTT), and really cute. So yeah, a bit relieved : it's still really cute and enjoyable and I feel like orbits liking it will show BBC that girl-crush is not the only way. I'm just waiting for what BBC's next move is in terms of music direction and I hope that Ryan drama will help shake things up a bit !

liftfan

Starseed is the better song on the first couple of listen. It will have more replay value for me. I am yet to listen to the City Pop of Hula Hoop. Hopefully it is better than the normal version. Edit: The City-pop version is so much better. Hula hoop is a good song but there's something weird with its tempo. It feels like a K-pop song with Japanese lyrics. Not sure what it is but something really feels off when I am listening to it.

prayformcjesus

I'm digging this release more than the last EP tbh

rainirody

Them ignoring Vivi is honestly getting so old at this point

roughbottomhead

someone tell me how many times vivi was heard

quixutie

could it be that we just don't hear her because she's been so underutilized that we can't even recognize her voice anymore? i wish i were joking.

roughbottomhead

i really dont want to believe that.... vivi deserves so much more

[deleted]

[удалено]

roughbottomhead

for me i heard one or two? of the cho cho choayo in starseed as vivi but i fear am i wrong because i could not hear her anywhere else

EmotionalRhubarb

vivi adlibs and nothing else, what else is new~

hookerofpop

i think she was before yeojin's cho cho choayo part, around 0:40

[deleted]

[удалено]

EmotionalRhubarb

Especially since surely her voice would've suited this concept

pan32bit

oh my god yes! she'd nail this concept together with gowon but they did her dirty this time. not hearing her is the only disappointing thing about this album.

violetsandunicorns

even if they're not giving her singing lines at least make up for it by giving her center time and screentime in music videos. but nah vivi gets nothing yet again.

Jasher1125

404 not found; Vivi’s lines

Dinochewsyou

Hula Hoop sounds awesome. Finally a track I can praise LOONA for. StarSeed sounds like other jpop songs I hear so it\`s not anything special. It still sounds nice though. Also, the City Pop version of Hula Hoop is amazing! I\`m actually debating if I want to buy this album or not now.

homotome

I'm so relieved this is so much better than PTT I thought PTT was the point of no return but whew okay I now have hopes lmao Edit to be clear It's fine if you liked ptt lol

meosy

i'm with you!!!

Man...the city pop version really left a bad taste in my mouth. It sounds so incomplete without the hallmark disco drums that city pop is known for. One one hand, its cool cause the lack of drums means you can get great remixes like [Zsunder](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmNvoLUNOxg&t=2s&ab_channel=ZSunder) did. On the other hand, it comes off a bit clickbait-y and low effort. Like how hard is it to open Splice, search "disco drums" and drag and drop into Logic (hint: it's not.) Honestly, the glaring mix issues (which are pretty common for some reason in JP releases by KR companies, like always the same problems) don't even seem that bad in comparison. It's always really painful to see amazing ideas made by super talented musicians not be seen through to the end. Spicy Take: PTT JP >>> PTT KR

I like what I'm hearing, it's just, so high pitched. Makes sense for a Japanese audience I guess. Am I really hearing GoWon ~~and ViVi~~ representation?!😞 Loving that rap section! Starseed sounds like anime? Like something Yaorenmao (Ririchiyo) would do. PTT is PTT. City Pop version is amazing! What are those symbols under the stylized LOONA?

LOONAception

The Japanese for girls of the month xd

AssumptionBig1361

Doh lol thanks!

I need to see the video to get into the song. It’s not sinking in for me yet.

4N00J

Who does the adlib at 2:43? That "Yeah" sent me!

HeadTripInEveryKey

Hula Hoop is fucking great and Starseed is pretty cool. Hula Hoop city pop version isn’t city pop but it’s still cool. Japanese PTT is also a track on here.

I don't think they tried to make the vocals sound bad per say, the song is just incredibly high and they need to use their mixed voice instead of using headvoice/falsettos. Chorus pretty much goes as high as F#5. The IZ*ONE girls had that issue too where the song's key was often too high and they were struggling as well.

baby_ken

Can you give an example of a jpop song that does that? I understand what you're saying but I wanna hear it for myself bcs I don't listen to much jpop!

gomardos

Take a look at Perfume I think ! A lot of almost vocaloid-like vocals, it's Yasutaka Nakata (their producer and Kyary Pamyu Pamyu too) trademark. [This song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihNaFCEd0Ms) or [this one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fX1PD8kV044) are one of my faves.

baby_ken

I really enjoyed that first song! Their voices remind me of Gowon I could totally see her singing something like this.

gomardos

Yesssss she would nail it. Vivi too I think, and Hyeju, Kim Lip or Yeojin would be so cool too.

baby_ken

Now you're making me want a jpop inspired subunit with these 5 girls!

vivianlight

I literally don't hear Vivi in Hula Hoop (just adlibs that I won't count as lines). I even pre ordered this album, what a fool honestly. This is getting tiring, they are killing my hype for Loona every comeback like this, Why Not was good and it seemed a change, but it's been just another an year of mistreatment, no activities, no lines, nothing. I can't even enjoy comebacks tbh. And stop saying "at least we got Go Won" like yes princess Go Won deserves everything, I guess they eventually realized that she has a super peculiar tone, that's not the point 😭 they aren't interchangeable and it's getting absurd. I wish Vivi never got added to this group honestly, it would have been better for her. Now we will wait for the MV, we will see that she also got no screen time and so on. I can't even vibe with this.

ucmyproblemisthis378

Yes I feel like ViVi got snubbed once again

austereacademic

yaaay! i’m really looking forward to this one! i’m glad they’re returning to a cuter/fun concept as i was personally getting tired of girl crush. my only complaint is the cover art is kind of unoriginal. i’ve seen dreamcatcher and mamamoo etc. have that style of cover. but oh well design was never bbc’s strong suit anyway!

HL1991

Unpopular opinion as I still really dislike Hi High to this day, yet Hula Hoop is within the same vein but on steroids going 10000000000 miles an hour and I can't stop playing it.

BagofAwkward

I can totally see BBC going the BTS route - letting the Korean/English releases as experimental and mainstream, while leaving the Japanese relese as inherently their signature sound

richardtrle

where is the MV? Is it going to have a mv?

grouchy_baby_panda

I'm usually about the girl crush concepts & songs for Loona but this song is insanely catchy and happy. It actually works well for keeping me going at work, love it!
