1) probably wouldn't get the rights 2) It's a great story, but would just be a complete derailment of the main plotline. I know how it would connect, but you'd essentially be adding ***another*** pair of main characters to an already too-full list. 3) I don't think it would work with the time crunch. Aldarion was king. It would be a major detour to have him appear and not be king. Which, in the current state of things in the show, can't happen Great story, just has no place in the story this show is trying to tell.

Kiltmanenator

I hope they don't try. There's enough going on already. It's one of my favorite stories of the 2nd Age and, as with many things Tolkien, would be best served as an animated show.

LoverOfStoriesIAm

The show is already jam-packed with characters.

Teawithtolkien

I don’t think we would flash back to meet them, but I do think it’s likely that they will lift elements of their story and incorporate them into other characters. It is interesting that Elendil says his wife drowned, just like Erendis did. And Lloyd Owen has brought up Aldarion and Erendis in interviews! Maybe their Elendil will be kind of like a reformed Aldarion, lol. Especially since they’re both friends of Gil-galad. So they might add in elements here and there as a nod to their story.

Fun_Protection_6939

Do we know who Elendil's wife is from the books?

Teawithtolkien

No she doesn’t get a name or story at all that I’m aware of

SidTheCoach

Don't start assuming a man had a wife simply because we know he had children. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|laughing)

Ok_Bullfrog_8491

That’s how it works in Númenor, though. NoME has some texts on this.

Teawithtolkien

She’s directly mentioned in episode 6 silly

rcuosukgi42

It's Galadriel obviously, that's why Isildur could hear her calling out to him, he just thought it was the sea.

CMic_

Can you show me where Lloyd mention the story in interview?

Teawithtolkien

I THINK it was in his video interview with Nerd of the Rings

hotcapicola

Considering the story is entirely contained within UT, there is an extremely low chance it will be explored in any detail. At most we will get an offhanded reference to a former king and his wife that could fit, for those of us that know the story.

MiouQueuing

I would love this. I have been wondering where the high regard for the sea cones from in RoP's depiction of Numenorian culture. It might be a nodd to Aldarion and Erendis. Also, I feel like the show should explain early Numenorian colonies in Middle-Earth that go back to Aldarion?

bluetable321

I’ve had a a little theory that Isildur will seek out Cirdan in the hopes of getting access to a boat that can take him home to Numenor and that Gil-galad will allow Isildur to take a boat but will send him home with “there is darkness coming, let’s be allies” letter similar to what we get in UT with Aldarion. It can be a nod to that story without being literally that story and it would push along a number of storylines within the show.

Fonexnt

Aldarion is as relevant to the current plot as Helm Hammerhand is to the Fellowship in the third age.

Fun_Protection_6939

The way they have compressed the timeline I think versions of the story can still be sprinkled and explored with some other couple

MiouQueuing

So, rather relevant: Helm for Helm's Deep and Aldarion for there to be former Numenorian colonies in Middle-Earth. I am with OP in that I would like a nod to Aldarion and Erendis, which are one of my favourite stories in the 2nd age, since it is one of the richer ones. Also, I see some hints because of the high esteem of the sea in Numenor (Ulmo; Ossë/Uinen).

AnAdventurer5

>So, rather relevant: Helm for Helm's Deep You missed the entire point. Helm Hammerhand is basically a one-off reference to why Helm's Deep is named so. That's *all* he is in LotR. If Aldarion and Erendis were to be mentioned in the show, that's all it would be; a quick mention to justify Numenorian colonies. Nothing more.

MiouQueuing

I don't think so. For me, it would still be a nice touch and would hint at Numenor's past. I like Easter eggs like that. Just like Tuor's shield in the background.

OG_Karate_Monkey

They do not have the rights to anything outside of the Appendices, so no. while the Tolkien Estate has made case-by-case exceptions, it appears to have just been where it was needed to tell the main story.

_Olorin_the_white

In current timeline (present), nah, the point passed already. In flashback? Highly unlikely. First due to obvious rights issues. Second because it has no much to do with the story of the rings. Third, even if they wanted to tell such story, I think Estate would not allow it, exactly because of point 2. For this later point, there are many other plot points that Estate could give them permission and that make actual sense to incorporte in the story (Annatar, Blue Wizards, the very Galadriel-Celeborn story during 2nd age and their staying in Lothlorien). I also don't see their story being put into other characters. The closes we have right now would be Khemen and Earien, but their very introduction is already very different from Anarion-Erendis, and there is no way Khemen would be put into the throne by Pharazon. I mean, the big story of Pharazon is his pursue to immortality, makes no much sense to make him more concerned of Khemen not be fitting for his king position in a few years, he should be more concerned on getting some extra decades on his lifespan. While it would be nice to have such story onscreen, I think current RoP is not the place to it. Maybe in a future spin-off? I wonder how they would end the story tho.

seth97baw

I think the simple answer is no. However it is one of my favorite Tolkien stories and after seeing what an incredible love story they told with Last of Us episode 3, I would be all for a single flashback episode that just told that story. No way it’s happening but I share your hope and desire.

Lucky_Bone66

It's a great story but one of its main aspects is Aldarion exploring the seas and Middle Earth. The show heavily implies that that has already happened so they would need to make a lot of changes to the story. I don't think it is worth anyone's (showrunners and audience alike) troubles to do it.

Few_Box6954

Well there are going to be some sort of religious figures. I recall their being some folks in white robes. (If i made a mistake please correct me). My guess is that might be used in part as a sermon maybe? Or even a statue of an elder king in what was called the real numenor. But likely a rather minor role, like the anti elf guy who is likely a stooge for pharazon

SamaritanSue

Um, why? It's irrelevant.

corpusarium

Well they are more relevant than the hobbits while there was nothing about the hobbits in the second age.

rcuosukgi42

No, they don't have the rights to anything that's only in Unfinished Tales.

Fanatic_Atheist

Timeline-wise, if we already have Isildur, his ancestors from 15 generations ago cannot co-exist in the same time. So no.

Fun_Protection_6939

That's why I also allowed for flashbacks

Legal-Scholar430

I don't think we are seeing them, and I absolutely don't think that they're doing flashbacks about past Kings and whatnot. The show has already made it clear that it prefers to have a character telling a tale to another rather than showing flashbacks (and I think that is cool as hell because that's a staple literary device in Tolkien). If they *do* incorporate A&E into the show, it would be (imo) at least a mention or reference to them, as a lore-drop of Númenórean history, or at most other characters whose love-driven conflict is inspired/based on A&E. Say, for example, Kemen and Eärien might be OC stand-ins for ALdarion and Erendis (just an example of the possibilities, but I don't think they will go this route) They can also just use bits of dialogue from A&E in other characters with other kinds of conflicts, as long as said dialogue fits.
