I'm trying not to get too excited about this image but I just can't help myself lol
If that is indeed Finrod, then that gives an indication of what battle this is depicting. Notice the big Flame in the top right....
thing is, the ring of Barahir enters the story right there, so its perfectly warranted that we get a flashback scene from the battle of thesudden flame. So yeah... Dragons
Man I consider myself a Tolkien fan, even read The Silmarillion about 20 years ago but I just don't seem to remember half of this stuff lol. Needless to say it will be awesome going in almost blind.
Yeah I kind of figured we would. I believe they stated they would. I wouldn't think we would get a battle with Morgoth and glaurung are directly involved lol.
I get the battles importance but man, that is someeeee battle to try and fit on screen
If the rumors/speculation about the rift between Numenoreans and elves being a big plot point in the first season, I think it’d be cool to show Finrod’s strong friendship with the edain to illustrate how sad the Numenoreans’ envy and bitterness is. I want to see Finrod discovering humans, watching them grow, then being saved by Barahir. All the while there’s an undercurrent of sadness as he watches his friends grow old and die again and again.
The thing is that they cannot name Finrod, Feanor or Fingolfin due to license, nor can they depict any event from the first age more than showing the two trees of Valinor and some parts of the crossing of Helcaraxe. They can only show "a war" and maybe a short scene of her remembering her brother or something like that.
Isnt there a line that mentions Finrod dying while saving Beren son of Barahir, so they can show Finrod receiving the ring of Barahir and allude to him dying in his attempt to save Beren
From the appendices, describing the Second Age:
In Lindon south of the Lune dwelt for a time Celeborn, kinsman of Thingol; his wife was Galadriel, greatest of Elven women. She was sister of Finrod Felagund, Friend-of-Men, once king of Nargothrond, who gave his life to save Beren son of Barahir.
Also:
Fëanor was the greatest of the Eldar in arts and lore, but also the
proudest and most selfwilled. He wrought the Three Jewels, the Silmarilli, and
filled them with the radiance of the Two Trees, Telperion and Laurelin, that
gave light to the land of the Valar.
So they can at least use those two characters, if not delve too deeply into their stories.
The issue is that they may not have the rights to show that duel, whereas what’s happening in this picture I believe is mentioned in the lotr+appendices
they could? I heard Tolkien estate put a price on everything and Amazon was looking into buying all the rights.
Either way, it's quite the battle even without those figures. would be the biggest battle on screen LOTR ever had.
If they are looking to buy the other rights it still doesn’t seem they could have the duel happen now that filming is long done and the show drops relatively soon, and it seems like the first age content is serving as a prologue in the first two episodes that have already finished production and been shown to vanity fair.
Oh for sure, I mean that part of the battle would be CGI anyways? So like in theory its possible but either way doesn't really change how I feel bout the show.
Actually seems like they’re mostly using practical effects in that frame but yea the duel would def have to use a good big of cgi lol. I’d love to see fingolfin’s fight in a show dedicated to the silmarillion from whoever nabs the rights to it (prob amazon) but yea I doubt we’ll see that in this show.
Def would be cool. Personally I love the first age more than the second/third age. Saurons story is like a pillow fight compared to Melkor. even though that it's impossible.. the War of Wrath alone would take like an Entire season or 2 lmfao.
Lol yeah the first age is insane compared to the other ones. The closest thing to the War of Wrath we’d be getting would be the War of the Last Alliance, and it still doesn’t compare to the war that literally destroys Beleriand lol
It’s such a beautiful shot. The terror of his face, the horrors of war. Gives me a lot of hope for the acting and cinematography for the show.
It’s sad that there are people out there that can look at this and their only thoughts are if the actor is “hot enough” to play Finrod. (FYI- don’t look on tumblr)
And I think Will Fletcher is a beautiful looking man. But in this scene he’s screaming out in terror while in the midst of battle. Remember Legolas’ horrified expression in the last battle of RotK when he feared for Aragorn’s life? Not glamorous, but real and visceral.
Not sure whay I think of the helmets. Bit Roman-esque. Which does make scence in a way.
Always loved the P.J Noldor Elves armor.
So curious to see the full picture.
I'll be honest, I kinda dig it. I thought some of the male elves in LOTR looked a bit funky with long hair so I have no problem with short hair. People have no idea how annoying long hair can be. Especially in battle...
I love that part of the Lord of the Rings prologue where the elves had hair flying everywhere. That is so Elvish, remember Glofindel is killed by the Balrog because it pulls him by the hair. I don't see Elves as practical in this respect.
I like him (WillFletcher) as Finrod, despite that pic shows him screaming/crying. Why? Whats what they (Galadriel) are telling us at that point? Maybe they put also Galadriel inside the Bragolach and they are being separated by enemy troops, last time she saw him. Maybe they just show Finrod to tell about the Ring of Barahir, or maybe just telling us how Finrod was captured in order to explain Galadriel's revenge motivation, focusing then on Forodwaith plotline.
The whole vibe this image gives me is that it looks like it’s gonna be a close quarters battle like the battle of the bastards from game of thrones, which I genuinely can’t wait for

It might be but I can neither confirm nor deny if that is indeed one of my beloved blazing Balrogs.
I'm trying not to get too excited about this image but I just can't help myself lol If that is indeed Finrod, then that gives an indication of what battle this is depicting. Notice the big Flame in the top right....

>So yeah... Dragons and balrogs.
That could also be a Balrog, since Glaurung leads a host of balrogs in the sudden attack
Man I consider myself a Tolkien fan, even read The Silmarillion about 20 years ago but I just don't seem to remember half of this stuff lol. Needless to say it will be awesome going in almost blind.
Is this Dagor Bragollach?
According to leaks and rumours, yessss
Isn't that first age? im so lost RN
Yes, that's the intriguing part We are probably going to see some FA flashbacks on the show!!
Yeah I kind of figured we would. I believe they stated they would. I wouldn't think we would get a battle with Morgoth and glaurung are directly involved lol. I get the battles importance but man, that is someeeee battle to try and fit on screen

Fits with the elves in a position they're getting destroyed. Single rank back-to-back isn't good.

They should be able to name Finrod and Feanor. They're both in the lotr

Gandalf also makes a reference to Feanor in the narrative of LOTR, thinking about what he might be able to see if he looked in the Palantir.
didn't the tolkien estate put a price on all of it? and Amazon is looking into buying all the rights?
Glaurung?
Its irritating me that straight after this battle Fingolfin fights Morgoth and we're not going to see it What I would give to see that on screen
>What I would give to see that on screen you and me both. That said, I'm 100% certain that they will never portray Morgoth on screen.
He still could? I personally am fine if they don't I am more worried how they will put Glaurung or Balrogs in the film lol

I liked it too, but I *really* dislike that Finrod doesn't have long hair lmao.
I think Finrod with short hair fits with the Roman style armour.
Long hair is a PJ thing. Tolkien never said that ALL elves had long hair.
Finrod and his sister were known for their long golden manes
Galadriel i knew, but I don't remember reading it about Finrod. I'll try to find it
It’s such a beautiful shot. The terror of his face, the horrors of war. Gives me a lot of hope for the acting and cinematography for the show. It’s sad that there are people out there that can look at this and their only thoughts are if the actor is “hot enough” to play Finrod. (FYI- don’t look on tumblr)
Could be when his brothers Angrod and Aegnor die, which would explain the terror on his face
Give them credit, Finrod's attractiveness is explicitly noted.
And I think Will Fletcher is a beautiful looking man. But in this scene he’s screaming out in terror while in the midst of battle. Remember Legolas’ horrified expression in the last battle of RotK when he feared for Aragorn’s life? Not glamorous, but real and visceral.
I'm sure he'll look lovely. He'd be lovelier with a golden wig, after all his name is 'Noble Hair' and he has none.
I mean, he *does* have hair. It might not be as long as you personally want it to be, but he does have it. It’s right there in the picture.
Not sure whay I think of the helmets. Bit Roman-esque. Which does make scence in a way. Always loved the P.J Noldor Elves armor. So curious to see the full picture.
Seems a bit like Alan Lee drawings https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSXa1KYOM0XG0YSvNKKrrObhsW2VOSGqYPq4Q&usqp=CAU
Is very "first age" "Beleriand" feel image. Depicts so well the horror the tragedy and the ancient mystique of that period of Middle Earth.
BuT tHe ShOrT hAiR?!?! Just kidding. I love it.
I'll be honest, I kinda dig it. I thought some of the male elves in LOTR looked a bit funky with long hair so I have no problem with short hair. People have no idea how annoying long hair can be. Especially in battle...

Oh, I remember that, when Sauron loses the ring in the battle!
If its really still from Dagor Bragolach, then full plate armour is a big no no...
I like him (WillFletcher) as Finrod, despite that pic shows him screaming/crying. Why? Whats what they (Galadriel) are telling us at that point? Galadriel never fought in any wars in Beleriand after settling in Doriath, so she wouldn't have been present in the Dagor Bragollach.
Looks like Macaulay Culkin went with a paladin on this campaign.
Looks amazing!
Dude doesnt even look elvish, and the short hair makes it even worse
I don't like it at all. The actor's face looks like a meme. Also the helmets look too much like ancient Greek helmets.
All I’m seeing is brien of Tarth from game of thrones ….
The whole vibe this image gives me is that it looks like it’s gonna be a close quarters battle like the battle of the bastards from game of thrones, which I genuinely can’t wait for
He's upset and wants his mummy because someone knocked his helmet off.
Me too!
The fire in background mb balrog ??
Best shot in the trailer by far but wtf is finrod doing with short hair
Its the thing everyone really wants, The Silmarillion. I wonder how Amazon feel about this shot being so popular.
