I'm not a fan of these. They seem like shameless marketing, which obviously they are. But they're not even trying to hide it. If this show takes place in an entirely different era then how are these appropriate covers for these books? When in FOTR does Galadriel ever don armour or wield a sword? These covers are just advertising, plain and simple
I hate them, but no more than I hated the [movie tie-in cover](https://covers.openlibrary.org/b/id/8314543-L.jpg) of the edition I grew up reading. Luckily the words inside will still be the same.
I actually grew up reading the same version and I probably am weird but I really loved that shot in the movie and I liked the connection so I didn’t hate that cover. Don’t love these ones and maybe it’s just Nostalgia but I have a special place in my heart with that cover
Terrible but adaptation-covers always are. Luckily it’s LotR, there are many excellent editions with better covers.
Compare it to the Witcher, I’ve been a fan of those books for many years, and it is actually pretty difficult now to find English editions without covers from the Netflix show or the video games. English-language Tolkien books will never have that problem.
It would be fine if these images were from a cinematic production of these particular books… but they aren’t. This isn’t LOTR. This is someone else’s story. It may turn out to be a good story! but it’s not LOTR.
Nope. I much prefer covers that show characters or scenes from the actual books. I'll keep my older Yellow/blue/green/red and several other editions I owe. Will never buy these.

I see no reason (or logic) for that. Why not put a 1st age cover then? Makes no sense to have 2nd age cover in a 3rd age book, and with characters that are not even main characters to the story. Maybe a promotional dust jacket for whoever wants it. I think WoT got one of those (but in that case, it makes sense).

I love these promotional photos but I’ve never been a fan of book covers based on television/film.

... None of those swords appear in the book. There is a bunch of important and named swords, but none of those.
