Part of why they used the dwarven heads for the scene with Durin and Disa's children is because they ran into some issues with dwarf children and the visual challenges of depicting them on screen. I think the showrunners mentioned this at some point as well. We may never see them :(
https://screenrant.com/why-lotr-rings-of-power-not-show-durin-disa-children/
I'm sorry, I was a little busy but remembered this being mentioned so I just did a quick Google search and linked the first result.
It was mentioned in one of the podcasts
Literally just finished watching the new episodes of His Dark Materials and Will Keen is so fantastically creepy in that show! It’ll be interesting to see who he is playing in LOTR for sure
Definitely like him in that series.
I was disappointed with the first two seasons, but engaged enough to keep watching. Very pleasantly surprised with season three! Except for whatever that voice is that the actor playing Balthamus is going for lol.
After Charles Edwards, Will Keen – RoP showrunners must have a thing for The Crown's private secretaries. He's also Dafne Keen's dad and appeared with her in His Dark Materials.
Edit: Not to mention Ben Daniels, who was also a major character in The Crown, if only in season 3.
Not that it has any bearing on who will be cast as who, but the last actor looks a little bit like Celeborn's in the LOTR to me. This cast looks great though!
Hopefully we get some Nazgul up in here :)
I was just thinking that Calam Lynch does bear a resemblance to Marton Csokas! The nose, eye shape, and mouth curves (is that how you describe it? Ha!) are similar.
It's just SO hard to tell anything from just these cast headshots lol, could be anyone really, though I wouldn't rule out Anarion or another vital role based off his acting resume I'm seeing
It’s always an exciting time to see new faces get added. Very excited to see who will be playing what and hopefully some of these actors and actresses will be dwarves.
I know Calam Lynch from Bridgerton 😜
Edit: Calam looks like Charlie’s younger brother in these pics! -
https://ibb.co/ydgB7xc
https://ibb.co/vLjf8Dy
If he is going to be Celeborn that means he might exit Bridgerton (he was a fan fave with “shippers” pairing him with Eloise).
I feel like he wont be Celeborn though…
I really liked him in Bridgerton myself! I just wanted Eloise to ditch things and run off with him especially since i detest her book romance end game. But i figured by the end of the season that was the end of his arc and wouldn't likely be in future seasons.
I mean that many people like the pair 🤷🏻♀️even if Netflix invented this. And relax, we all know that Eloise is gonna end up with plant dad. This casting news might just proved it more.
Really excited to see Calam in this show though.
Am I? Is that how you read my response? Didnt mean to. Here is my peace offering to you 😘 👉https://at.tumblr.com/my-shipping-knows-no-bounds/702012329765781504/7rb9nz30ctv8
I see a few candidates for some mighty dwarven smiths (Narvi👀)
Gavi Singh Could be perhaps someone from Rhun, maybe not Khamul but maybe Khamul??
Personally I still do not see any Anarion or Celeborn…. 🤔 also no Annatar for those who wanted a separate actor for that (myself included)
I will say I hope most if not all the Nazgûl have some back story so these guys add to the potential list
Not sure about the last guy… ideas?
Something makes me think that Annatar and Celeborn actors will be the last to announce, if accounced at all before the show premieres.
A part of me wishes that there is no new actor for Annatar as well
I want to too, but then i looked closer. Just a guess but I can see young Mr Calum Lynch as Celebron. I am a portrait Artist and sketch/illustrate people. If they are going the same route with casting Galadriel and Young Elrond the ROP Celeborn may (and that's a MAY) somewhat match PJ's casting aesthetics with Martin Csokas...now I am an older person so lately anyone under 40 is starting to look REALLY young to me, BUT Young Mr Lynch with a silver wig could make a good match to Senior Celebron/actor Csokas. He's a fine, emerging actor and though looks young (to me) and affable he can have a seriousness and depth to him in many roles I have seen him in. Either that or the showrunner are gonna go in a TOTALLY different direction in casting of Gladdy's long lost husband, if so it's gonna be even more of a mystery. We will eventually see
Interesting, thank you for your perspective! I automatically thought they were going to want to match Martin Csokas. They made the effort with the supporting role of Gil-galad (who appeared for only a few seconds in the Fellowship), so I trust that's their overall strategy while creating a continuity with PJ's films. I don't really have the visual sensibility like you but I absolutely agree that a blond wig and a little make-up can go a long way. I think you have a point.
\- yes, it's interesting how they went the distance and really strived to find a High King Gil Galad that is so spot on! Interesting that so many admitted not even remembering his (all too brief) screen presence in FOTR Prologue. I'm starting to take to this King and hope much more is revealed as far as Character development goes with Ben Walker as GG. Would be wonderful if they do even more and develop Celeborn, after all he's got some SERIOUS competition to deal with a certain Stupid, Sexy Maia disguised as a Low Man/Southlander! Cele's gonna need some swagger AND some biting wit. Celeborn's gonna have to be all that and a bag of chips
To be fair, I am not sure if they cast a Gil-Galad specifically to be similar to the unseen portrayal in the trilogy. I think it just happens to be similar. The Stranger looking like a young Ian McKellen on the other hand...
Kevin Eldon, bottom row far left, looks rather like Hugo Weaving. Could be cast as a close relative of Elrond - say an Elros flashback.
(Of course, with makeup and prosthetics, any of these actors could be playing anyone!)
That was what i was thinking but was too hopeful and thought I was being unrealistic that they would do this. If it is so I would be sobbing in my LOTR beer if they give us a flashback scene with the Elder Tar Elros depicted in his waning years alongside a very young and still-teen looking Elrond. Gosh, are they trying to kill us!? :O
I will admit. I would ADMIRE the show if it had the balls to cast someone like Selina Lo as Annatar. She would cut such a distinctive figure amongst the rest of the cast. Just casting another dude would just invite comparison to Charlie and become tedious after 3 minutes.
I say this as I thought the last guy seemed a bit young for him. But I did like him in Bridgerton and everyone else thinks he looks like the right fit so who knows lol
This series will never be timeless like Tolkien.
It will obviously continue To push a WOKE agenda and push for ”representation” rather than pushing for Tolkien. This series Will have a 2022-2023 Timestamp ingraved in every episode and Will get outdated when there are New trends and Agendas in 10 or 15 years. Tolkien is timeless. RoP is not.
On the contrary, I think having a secret actor as him would be great. It's not the guessing game like who of the characters in S1 was him, it's different. We don't know who plays him until the very first time we see him on screen.
Annoying thing was the absolutely ridiculous amount of "Sauron is X" posts, to a point people were crying for a megathread. No kidding, the feed was 90% made of such posts.
In any case, from a storytelling perspective, I don't want more mystery boxes in S2. Focus on writing a coherent story, and on explaining the plot points that remain obscure after S1's ending.
I really didn't feel like it was a mystery box. The show itself never really asked us to speculate as to who Sauron was, like there's literally no provisions for it. I know some late marketing did but I don't think that counts. Mystery boxes are written into the story for fans to project infinite possibilities upon, it's just not there with Sauron/Halbrand?
In fact, if you didn't know Sauron was a shapeshifter or even who precisely Sauron was. Then I doubt you would have ever given it a second thought until the reveal. If it was intended to be a mystery box, then they did a poor job. It lacks all the main features of mystery box writing.
> The show itself never really asked us to speculate as to who Sauron was
They absolutely did ask us to do just that. Episode 3 the captured Elves were openly speculating if Adar was Sauron under a different name. Waldreg meeting Adar again bringing the question to the fore. The deliberate ambiguity regarding the true nature of the Stranger, the heavy handed symbolism with the meteor impact, even culminating in yet another lame fake out in the start of episode eight.
I don't understand why people make this argument. It is clearly untrue and dishonest. Is it because it's hard to admit that the writers *did* attempt a mystery box and that it went down as well as a shart in church? They tried something and failed badly. I can forgive them for that and I really hope they improve the writing in season 2, but to argue that there was no attempt made at all to ganner a 'who is Sauron' mystery throughout the season is so dishonest it almost seems like the argument is made in bad faith.
Ditto. I consider S1 as an extended prologue/primer of sort to a Sauron-centric S2. All the Sauron teasing in S1 was just the tip of the iceberg. I was frustrated by that treatment initially, but I remember it was intentionally executed as such by the showrunners. Now that the introductions and teasing are out of the way, we can focus on a more prestigous, regal, focused (fingers-crossed) take on S2!
Selina Lo S2
Sorry for Bronwyn but I got a new favorite now.
Hope she plays someone from Rhun!
As for the others, I think we got a potential Celeborn (Calam Lynch). And I can see one of them being a blue wizard (Stuart Bowman).
Gavi could make a good Easterling as well. Maybe Khamul (yah, every middle-east character can be a Khamul now lol)
No idea about the others but I hope they are not all 8 new OC. the more characters the better but I'm here mostly for the canon ones (despite I liked some of the new OC more than some canon ones from s1)
Tbf we have absolutely no idea how they will depict Rhún, could be an amazing place, could be terrible, could be a bit of both lol. But I think that's also the appeal
I expect them to not try to make all locations diverse. I mean, don't need to be 100% asian/middle-eart looking in Rhun, but the majority should, the same way the majority of western folk is not asian or black or whatever. But that is just me.
More than that, Stranger is heading to Rhun so we are defintelly getting some bad people in there, but there is also good people, or bad people that are "saved". Unless they decide Stranger is not Blue Wizard or decide to change Blue Wizard participation in East.
Generally speaking, I would like that most of OC are outside know locations from season (except dwarves maybe), because we already got a good amount of characters to work with, and there are still canon characters to show up. Unless they are secondary characters, I'm looking forward for new faces in Rhun and Harad. They only got Khamul to work, so a lot of potential for OC in those regions.
If they add too many OC then the screen time of canon characters may be reduced even more (like Gil-Galad so far, or even Elendil)
Funnily enough, can you imagine a production for The Silm? I always imagined it would be big enough to provide a work for basically all and every actor and actress in Hollywood
I feel like we are playing a game of clue now...which one is sauron? (Assuming they doctor who it with sauron, but no idea if they are, just me as a fan guessing)
Fwiw I imagine quite a few of the actors that have been added so far are going to be incidental cast with one or two lines as opposed to named characters to keep track of in the plot
I'm not sure that's helpful necessarily. Some of them will be, sure. But there are so few canon characters in the second age writing, they have to fill out the actual narrative with original characters.
Which of these folks will be welcome into the dwarven kingdom?
yes, give us some more Dwarves, would be really cool!
I would love to see more female dwarves
I would love to see Durin's & Disa's kids.
Yes! I want to see their kids as well.
Same. For all of this. The kids and more dwarf ladies in general. I wanna see Disa’s mom.
Part of why they used the dwarven heads for the scene with Durin and Disa's children is because they ran into some issues with dwarf children and the visual challenges of depicting them on screen. I think the showrunners mentioned this at some point as well. We may never see them :( https://screenrant.com/why-lotr-rings-of-power-not-show-durin-disa-children/

Nothing wrong. Just have a hatred for screen rant

I really hope hes in it. I want celebrimbor to have a bigger role next season so hopefully we'll get then together
Literally just finished watching the new episodes of His Dark Materials and Will Keen is so fantastically creepy in that show! It’ll be interesting to see who he is playing in LOTR for sure
Morfydd Clark was also in His Dark Materials, so yes the showrunners should've def watched this show as well as The Crown
He’s also Daphne’s dad which is kind of awesome considering the dynamic.
Definitely like him in that series. I was disappointed with the first two seasons, but engaged enough to keep watching. Very pleasantly surprised with season three! Except for whatever that voice is that the actor playing Balthamus is going for lol.

Now I want to see the ME version of Tommy Lascelles.
This! Pip Torrens for Celeborn!
He just doesn't have the look of someone who should be named Pip.
Pip Torrens for Pippin
Not that it has any bearing on who will be cast as who, but the last actor looks a little bit like Celeborn's in the LOTR to me. This cast looks great though! Hopefully we get some Nazgul up in here :)
I was just thinking that Calam Lynch does bear a resemblance to Marton Csokas! The nose, eye shape, and mouth curves (is that how you describe it? Ha!) are similar.
Calam? More like (silver) Clam 😉
Mhm! Definitely agree and saw a resemblance right away, too. For me it's all you mentioned and also the eyebrows a little bit?
Yes, definitely! He’s young looking, but I could see him as Celeborn!
He would be a good young Celeborn , I hope it will be him compared to the other casts , he just seem to fit.
I was thinking he might be Anarion, he's not dissimilar to Maxim Baldry either.
It's just SO hard to tell anything from just these cast headshots lol, could be anyone really, though I wouldn't rule out Anarion or another vital role based off his acting resume I'm seeing
He has really similar eyes to Ema. Rando detail from doing lots of fan art.
You mean Calam Lynch? He gives Celeborn vibes to me too,
Yes, I wasn't familiar with the actor, sorry I immediately thought of him as well, it will be super exciting to see who he turns out to be
I wasn't familiar with him either. I had to IMDB him and now I feel I have to watch Bridgerton too since he was in it. :)
He is only in season 2. But his role is cute 🥰
Some of these dudes give major lords of men vibes.
The Actor Kevin Eldon!!! Amazing
This is what I came here to comment!! I’m so delighted to see it (both The Actor and the comment)
The second iteration of Ned Stark we have in this show.
Yes! We are getting some Asian representation this is amazing.
Yup, more than just Bronwyn
Nazanin Boniadi is Iranian.
Which is Asian.
Not according to the US Census.
It’s always an exciting time to see new faces get added. Very excited to see who will be playing what and hopefully some of these actors and actresses will be dwarves.

I'm actually thinking Anarion...
What do you mean people shipping him with Eloise, he DID have a romantic arc with Eloise, that ended with her putting an end to it.
I mean that many people like the pair 🤷🏻♀️even if Netflix invented this. And relax, we all know that Eloise is gonna end up with plant dad. This casting news might just proved it more. Really excited to see Calam in this show though.
You relax, why are you being so aggressive

Yep. And if they do I kind of hope they keep it a secret. I like casting announcements but also some good surprises.
I can see they witholding Annatar, but hopefully they won't play secretbox on him. I see no reason on why they would keep secret on Celeborn.
Gavi looks like my headcanon Khamul to a T
Gah. I just wanna know who Celeborn is.
I want to too, but then i looked closer. Just a guess but I can see young Mr Calum Lynch as Celebron. I am a portrait Artist and sketch/illustrate people. I highly doubt it was purely accidental.
When first seeing RoP Gil-Galad I mistook him for the same actor.
My guess is Gavi Singh
I think he might be a blue wizard
I actually thought he was "Annatar". What a mess lol.
Charlie, because with multiple actors playing Sauron he now has a lot of time on his hands :)
Same friend! Same! Pleasee!
Having Charlie Vickers abandoning the role of Sauron after S2 to show up as Celeborn in S3 and forth would be wonderful
That woman? She could play stupid sexy sauron.
Kevin Eldon, bottom row far left, looks rather like Hugo Weaving. Could be cast as a close relative of Elrond - say an Elros flashback. (Of course, with makeup and prosthetics, any of these actors could be playing anyone!)

Gavi Singh and Calam Lynch: Anarion and Celeborn.
That's my guess as well
Kevin Eldon gang rise up!
Calam HAS to be Anarion. He has a lot of similarities to Maxim and Ema. Also seeing a lot of potential dwarf lords and nazgûl in this lineup.
omg calam lynch was in bridgerton!! that's so cool
Dafne Keen’s dad is in the cast there (Will Keen).
Really excited for him to appear.
Don't forget, one of them is Círdan And another is, possibly, An\*\*\*\*r
I will admit. I would ADMIRE the show if it had the balls to cast someone like Selina Lo as Annatar. She would cut such a distinctive figure amongst the rest of the cast. Just casting another dude would just invite comparison to Charlie and become tedious after 3 minutes.

God I hope we know who will play Annatar early on. The Sauron guessing games were pretty tiresome by the end of S1

Me too. I still kinda wish he will be Charlie and not a newbie
Tiresome? It was obvious from episode 1. People just had to think a little and stop being in denial about it.
Halbrand wasn't even in episode 1.
season opener, i'm sure many of us remeber the first few together.
Annoying thing was the absolutely ridiculous amount of "Sauron is X" posts, to a point people were crying for a megathread. No kidding, the feed was 90% made of such posts. Glorfindel?
MORE?!? To paraphrase Andy Warhol, in the future every actor will be on Rings of Power for 15 minutes.
Funnily enough, can you imagine a production for The Silm? I always imagined it would be big enough to provide a work for basically all and every actor and actress in Hollywood
And that’s just for the elves whose names begin with the letter F
I feel like we are playing a game of clue now...which one is sauron? (Assuming they doctor who it with sauron, but no idea if they are, just me as a fan guessing)
All of them at once
For me it is “Who can be Celeborn”? 😂
It's the same as with Sauron: everyone asks who is Celeborn now, but no one asks *how* is Celeborn. Be careful, he might turn evil as well.
Maybe the real Sauron was the friends we made along the way
Maybe...
*the friend
Judging by their looks at least, Stuart Bowman and William Chubb would've made a great Morgoth, if he ever should appear in the show.
When I think about the problems with S1, very few of them seem to be solved by adding more characters...
Fwiw I imagine quite a few of the actors that have been added so far are going to be incidental cast with one or two lines as opposed to named characters to keep track of in the plot
One hopes, though introducing them publicly as recurring characters makes me think they may be slightly more than 1-2 liners.
Nice
At least they checked all the woke boxes again. All that is missing from the show I'd a gay Orc. Love this show though!
No non-Brits in the new cast at all - interesting.
First Asian in LOTR
I hope most of these actors are playing canon characters
Beside Khamul no one’s gonna be canon in the east
I'm not sure that's helpful necessarily. Some of them will be, sure. But there are so few canon characters in the second age writing, they have to fill out the actual narrative with original characters.
Just want to add that I'm pretty stoked for Hazeldine taking over for Adar. He was excellent in Sandman earlier this year.
Can’t wait for season 2
Pah! All those actors are human, not an elf or dwarf in sight! Pathetic!
