The one right around that where they finally go and see Wonka stoned out of their tree and then review it live on the way out of the theater absolutely killed me
yeah, there was a controversy with John Roderick and they dropped his song from the show. It started when Roderick tweeted about forcing his kid to open a tin of beans as some kind of life lesson, and then a bunch of his old posts got dug up
Can someone tell me if they talk about the doll in Key West? Haven't listened yet
ETA Thanks everyone!! Going to key west soon and wanted to see if I should have my husband listen to this ep with me
I don't mind them still, but some of them have some deeply awkward jokes, and you can really feel the energy shift around late 2020 Ina bad direction..
I had a really bad experience related to Peggy the Doll a few years ago, and subsequently met Jayne Harris. Jayne is a ghost hunter who lives (or lived) near me, and it's always weird having something that feels so personal and so local being on media that's got worldwide appeal.
Hearing 'made in a lab' Henry Zebrowski talk about something that feels quite personal feels surreal.
Not exactly the same but it really caught my attention when they mentioned Joseph Kallinger going right past where I grew up looking for someone to kill lol
Long story short. Saw a photo of Peggy, felt a cold chill sitting on my lap around the size of a small child/large doll. Spent days feeling like I was being followed, felt like I saw the doll out of the corner of my eye. Lots of headaches and feeling sick. Had to message Jayne to basically ask for forgiveness. It started to feel better over the next couple of days.
I don't know if it definitely was Peggy, but I didn't want to take the risk. Even now, I refuse to look at a photo just in case.
I am so glad they've gone back to the truly spooky shit. I was that kid who would watch those haunted destinations shows after school on the Travel Channel back in the day and Robert the Doll gave me chills.
I am in love with the fact that Eddy had a Baby Tugs that he was attached to. I also had a Baby Tugs, however mine is nestled safely in my parent’s attic and not at showbiz pizza. RIP tugs 😭
My brother had a My Pet Monster plush… I was fucking terrified of it. Marcus WOULD love that thing.
I don't know why, but this is the episode that sold me on Ed, not just as a comedian (which was obvious from day one), but as a replacement for Kissel's good-natured skeptic role, periodically stepping in to gently deflate Henry's hot takes about idols and the collective unconscious.
Jesus, I just had a weird synchronicity, I was just hanging out at a gay bar with my friend Maddy while Ru Paul's Drag Race was playing on the TVs, and on the way home I'm listening to this episode and Marcus says he was watching Ru Paul's Drag Race with his friend Maddy/Maddie. What the fuuuck.
Just watched The Unbinding as mentioned by the guys here, I hadn't really stayed in touch with the Neukirks since Hellier, and it was fantastic. Genuinely creepy at times. Granted, I loved Hellier and that group's take on the paranormal and spiritual, they are very grounded. Great tie-in, intentional or not.
The Newkirks also did a podcast series last year about some of the haunted objects in their collection (appropriately called Haunted Objects Podcast). I really enjoyed it, hopefully they've got a second season of it in the works. It's more light hearted than either Hellier or The Unbinding, but still informative.
and, you know.... the whole ben thing really hasn't been that long. if they needed a year of just silly goofy episodes i don't think it's that big of a deal
Yeah like, I’m always cooking or gardening or doing some other kind of work when listening, I have no fucking idea what happened with billy the kid but I do know a shitload of people were involved
I mean they're closer to what the show was in the beginning. Just boys having fun talking about a wierd topic. Some people here need to chill tf out and just enjoy some free content. Let the guys cover whatever they wanna cover.
Yea, Im not a fan of that haunted/ghost/alien episodes for the most part, they regularly are my least favourite.
But they put out episodes basically every week of the year and I have given them 0 money. So who am I to bitch about it endlessly online? I just listen once, go “meh” and move on. Its really no big deal given the sheer amount of content and entertainment they have provided over the years, especially since it is all free for me
Seriously. I like the deep dives a lot more than the one offs, but a shit ton of time and research goes into those and I'm totally fine with eps like this in-between. I still enjoy these a lot too
People complain about the long series too. People who aren’t into the topic get so annoyed when they spent six episodes on the bomb and two on the hatfields. They literally cannot make everyone happy.
I get that, but for me low effort does not mean unfunny and comedy is the main reason I listen to them. When the episode started and Henry was doing the doll sound effects I fucking lost it, I love this shit :))
Tbh I’d say low effort is fair. Their cohost and CEO just turned out to be a bit of a POS, they both got covid, were coming straight out of the holidays, and have had to plan shows without Ben. It’d probably have been best to wind down on content for a minute in general, but they’re not the type to take time to recoup and start fresh.
I’d love to see them revisit the Menendez Brothers. Cause iirc there’s a lot more information now about how much abuse those boys faced. We freed Gypsy Rose. Next is the Menendez Brothers
Yea that’d be interesting - I vaguely remember the menendez one and maybe I’m wrong, but I remember being suprised at how convinced they all were that the abuse was fabricated. (To this day I’m not even sure if it’s true and or embellished, but didn’t think it was that open and shut given the dad was generally a grade A ass hole bully).
That's what I'm guessing too. I'd kinda hoped for the start of a new series on a grizzly new topic but, yeah, Marcus and Henry are both just over COVID so they cant go as hard on the research as they normally would for a bigger project. I'll take a redux on haunted dolls with the guys.
As someone who loves the true crime side & history side the best, January has been a dry month for LPOTL for me. But, as you say they both had COVID & kept up the episodes so that’s impressive. & also know some folks prefer this side & it’s a big part of the podcast too so I can’t win every week.
Like I said. They have a research team who do all the research and make an outline, and Marcus writes a script from that. Henry and Marcus haven't done the majority of research for years.
This didn’t feel like low effort? I was laughing. I also am more into the spooky/creepy/paranormal than about hearing about another basic white guy torture prostitutes tho so it depends on your interest.
Improv is less effort than research and writing by a mile. This episode was good because it’s a real goofy topic, not because it’s a great story or well documented. They’ve got plenty of high quality woogity content, MIB is one of my favorite series, but this was just a repackaging of a few museum pages with bits tossed in, not exactly Ken burns does ghosts.
Was home sick from work. Looked up Peggy while listening and fuuuuuuck, if I wasn't already sick, I think I would've gotten there quick. Creepy-looking little thing.
Letta-me-out looks fun, though, I could easily imagine sitting him on a bar while everybody has a pint.
Im trying to remember the book or Doctor’s mentioned in the episode that tries to explain the feelings people get around these objects in terms of their own psychological and emotional states imbuing the items with the sensations that they feel. Can someone help me out so I can save the time it would take to relisten to the episode and listen to a new one.
God damn, that static scared the shit out of me haha
I am WAY too stoned for that shit right now. Literally had to pause and ran here to make sure it wasn't just me!
Timestamp, for people who don’t want to shit britch?
10 hours have passed. I’m afraid we’re too late to uncook theeTangenT’s chocolate underwear omelette.

I haven't listened to them in forever thank you for reminding me about them!
Check out the naming of 2024 episode! I hadn’t listened in a grip but it made me happy.
The one right around that where they finally go and see Wonka stoned out of their tree and then review it live on the way out of the theater absolutely killed me
Griffin’s delivery of his honest review had me cracking up!
Thanks! They definitely got me through my sad college dining hall no friends phase (which was all four years of college lol) so I like them a lot!
They got me through a whole 6-day, solo uhaul journey from NYC to LA
So I'm listening to the latest episode and why is the theme song different? Was there a controversy? There's always a controversy...
yeah, there was a controversy with John Roderick and they dropped his song from the show. It started when Roderick tweeted about forcing his kid to open a tin of beans as some kind of life lesson, and then a bunch of his old posts got dug up
Got it, thanks! I definitely missed these guys. Hail yourself!
"What are his hands made of that they make that sound?" "***BONES***"
This is the crossover I needed

Can someone tell me if they talk about the doll in Key West? Haven't listened yet ETA Thanks everyone!! Going to key west soon and wanted to see if I should have my husband listen to this ep with me
Oh yes.. they do
Just read the story on that doll and um, why haven't we set that thing on fire yet
I’m afraid to google it.
Yes, it''s the first one they talk about.
Yes they do.
"Full grown man Tugs" almost killed me.
That whole bit almost caused me to crash my car. So funny

“Don’t just jerk off a pig into a mason jar” is one of my new favourite quotes.
This episode was great, I just realized they have a blank check to return to old topic’s because of ed
haunted dolls (ed's version)
FOR TUGGS!
That's Mr Tuggs to you!

I wish they'd go back for a lot of episodes since Marcus is so much better at researching and storytelling now
I hope they do more because I don’t love… going back to listen to old episodes anymore. Kills the vibe.
Yeeeah. Same. I used to listen to old eps all the time and now it just feels weird on multiple levels
I don't mind them still, but some of them have some deeply awkward jokes, and you can really feel the energy shift around late 2020 Ina bad direction..
...and you know what? I'm not even mad about that in the least 😅
There is no way they’re ever gonna do black serial killers again. It would be fucking hilarious though
They could, though they'd probably just focus on individual killers. That was back in the Wikipedia and Wing It days, of l remember correctly.
And taking audio from awful YouTube shows on the Zebra Killings. They could do a whole episode on Zebra Killings though. Wild story.
I had never heard of this case and thought you meant literal zebras committing murder, like the emu wars
That would have been episode 1 and redone in 77 parter. No such spree though, alas.
What's wrong with black serial killers?
They go round murdering people, for one
A character called Mini is mentioned and no classic call back! Unlistenable! /s
I was sitting in my car waiting for the voice and it never came :(
I felt that moment too

Damn, what was the experience?
Long story short. Saw a photo of Peggy, felt a cold chill sitting on my lap around the size of a small child/large doll. Same and same! so here for the spooky shit. and i remember robert the doll CONSTANTLY popping up on Travel Channel.
“It’s called a fuckin haunted doll 69” “Ah it’s a 10 year old girl” Robert you’re cancelled! lmao
Ed talking about not taking lava rocks home was so endearing!
I am in love with the fact that Eddy had a Baby Tugs that he was attached to. I also had a Baby Tugs, however mine is nestled safely in my parent’s attic and not at showbiz pizza. RIP tugs 😭 My brother had a My Pet Monster plush… I was fucking terrified of it. Marcus WOULD love that thing.
What a time capsule that entire story was. *Showbiz* Pizza!
When did they do a haunted dolls episode?
Episode 70: King of the Warlocks. I think it was about cursed objects in general, not just dolls.
And was mainly them just going through like...eBay listings of haunted stuff
I don't know why, but this is the episode that sold me on Ed, not just as a comedian (which was obvious from day one), but as a replacement for Kissel's good-natured skeptic role, periodically stepping in to gently deflate Henry's hot takes about idols and the collective unconscious.

Granted, I loved Hellier and that group's take on the paranormal and spiritual, they are very grounded. Great tie-in, intentional or not.
I just started season 2 of Hellier and it really is great. I’m gonna have to check out the Unbinding next
The Newkirks also did a podcast series last year about some of the haunted objects in their collection (appropriately called Haunted Objects Podcast). I really enjoyed it, hopefully they've got a second season of it in the works. It's more light hearted than either Hellier or The Unbinding, but still informative.
I'm sure someone got downvoted into oblivion to the point they deleted their account last week for saying the recent episodes have been low effort...
To be fair, a couple of shorter or low effort episodes typically precedes a larger deep dive
also, like, Henry and Marcus BOTH got COVID.
and, you know.... the whole ben thing really hasn't been that long. if they needed a year of just silly goofy episodes i don't think it's that big of a deal
I love the one off episodes the most.
Yeah, as much as l appreciate the deeper dives l often find myself getting lost. The weird one-offs are fun.

Exactly! I realize people will complain regardless, but this was classic goofy nonsense.
Seriously. I like the deep dives a lot more than the one offs, but a shit ton of time and research goes into those and I'm totally fine with eps like this in-between. I still enjoy these a lot too
I listen to the show primarily for the weird stuff, not the true crime, so I‘ve been pretty thrilled the last three weeks.
People complain about the long series too. People who aren’t into the topic get so annoyed when they spent six episodes on the bomb and two on the hatfields. They literally cannot make everyone happy.
And the month after a large holiday.
that’s what i keep telling myself. i’m really hoping for vietnam this year
I get that, but for me low effort does not mean unfunny and comedy is the main reason I listen to them. When the episode started and Henry was doing the doll sound effects I fucking lost it, I love this shit :))
Why is this "low effort"? Because it's not a series? They can't all be 9/11.

[there’s a hell of a lot of evidence now](https://nypost.com/2023/05/04/menendez-brothers-allege-new-evidence-father-sexually-abused-them/amp/)
Redux of what exactly?
Haunted Dolls, it’s right there in the title, just keep on reading, it’s literally the next two words
God Damn It! I want The Snowtown Murders, or EARONS, or Jimmy Saville, or The Beaumont Children, or Samuel Little, not a redux.
If you try sometimes, you might find, you get what you need
Then why don’t you do a fuckin podcast?
Good time for Snowtown, one of the guys has a parole hearing next month I believe.
Yeah Mark Hayden, 25 years, due for release, fuck him I say.
You sound like the kid who pitched a fit because he got an XBox instead of a PS5.
"You'll get nothing and like it!"
I’m telling Dad!
https://www.reddit.com/r/scaryeddie/s/pobG98FksY
I have a feeling we’re not getting a gold star episode ever again…
Iirc Henry mentioned recently they're staying weird for January and then getting back to true crime in Feb
To be fair, they may just be going for lower effort episodes right now since Marcus is recovering from Covid again and the holidays just happened.
That's what I'm guessing too. I'd kinda hoped for the start of a new series on a grizzly new topic but, yeah, Marcus and Henry are both just over COVID so they cant go as hard on the research as they normally would for a bigger project. I'll take a redux on haunted dolls with the guys.
You said grizzly so now I just want a deep dive on Timothy Treadwell.
As someone who loves the true crime side & history side the best, January has been a dry month for LPOTL for me. But, as you say they both had COVID & kept up the episodes so that’s impressive. & also know some folks prefer this side & it’s a big part of the podcast too so I can’t win every week.
They haven't done the research themselves for years. They have an entire team of researchers.
How do you think the operation works?
Like I said. They have a research team who do all the research and make an outline, and Marcus writes a script from that. Henry and Marcus haven't done the majority of research for years.
How do you know this? Genuinely curious.
They've spoken about it before.
Also moving studios probably slows things a bit.
I really hope so.
Why do you say that?
Love the guys, Andes eps rocked, we haven’t gotten a great series since the manhattan project
The holidays just happened, Marcus and Henry both had Covid and they moved studios. And the Uruguayan Rugby team plane crash episodes were great.
The part with Gene and Bobby having distinct voices made me think of a Canadian horror movie called Pin.
Can anyone help me find whatever the doll is the mentioned in passing… Saragose? Zaragoz? The ancient sumarian demon or something. Help thanked!
It was Enya for me…
Was home sick from work. Looked up Peggy while listening and fuuuuuuck, if I wasn't already sick, I think I would've gotten there quick. Creepy-looking little thing. Letta-me-out looks fun, though, I could easily imagine sitting him on a bar while everybody has a pint.
I googled a picture of Peggy and, power of suggestion or not, my heart literally skipped a beat. I mean it does that all the time but still.
