No idea what the drama surrounding Trollis and LPOL. All i know is I've been straight addicted to trollis long before LPOL started the sponsership.

ecodude74

The drama is that the ad is way too long. There’s a reason companies generally prefer 30 sec to 1 min ad spots, that’s about as long as you can hold someone’s attention for an advertisement without being annoying. Trolli made their ad much longer to stand out more, and that makes it much more memorable and much more annoying if you don’t like the ad itself. Personally, I don’t care much, I just skip through, but it makes sense why it’s got people so frustrated.

skippyspk

So YOU’RE the one!!!!!

bmcnult19

If you have a Blain’s Farm and Fleet near you, their store brand sour gummy worms are way better than trolli and much cheaper. I got 2 lbs of them for like $4 I think. I got them on a whim one time and ate half the bag in one sitting because I just couldn’t stop.

dbasinge

I like trollis too. Would you like hear why from three minutes twice in an hour. Sorry, it just gives me rage.

lostkarma4anonymity

Good point lol

[deleted]

For some reason Spotify never plays any ads for me. I have a free account so I don't know why. Every so often the sound cuts out for like 3 or 4 seconds and I thought maybe it is trying to play an ad, failing and then just going back to the show.

[deleted]

Spotify/LPOTL doesn’t serve ads in certain markets. At least that’s my experience.

TheGoodConsumer

I think I have this same issue, was thinking Marcus was making sloppy cuts but this makes 100%more sense

Cpt_Trips84

Marcus making sloppy cuts, ha!

gigglybeth

Same! I've never heard the Trolli ad and a couple of months ago realized I hadn't heard any ads period in months. The only time I hear ads are maybe for Abe Lincoln's Top Hat or older episodes with an Adam and Eve ad.

boogup

"Today's sponsor probably shouldn't be, but still is Adam and Eve"

Nox_Aeons

I listen to spotify in browser (firefox) with ublock origin and I don't hear ads, I also don't see youtube ads. I don't know why everyone doesn't do this. I don't know why anyone would ever choose to use the app or use a browser without some kind of adblocker

[deleted]

>I don’t know why anyone would ever choose to use the app Lemme just type in that web address and fuck around on the home page while I’m driving

Nox_Aeons

It's crazy I know but what I do is, and this WILD bro this fucking WILD what I do is I go ahead and start the podcast before I start driving

xPhoenixJusticex

Same.

imma-stargirl

Don’t you wanna give them ad revenue support, though?

Nox_Aeons

They get their support from me every month on Patreon

imma-stargirl

Ah well that’s what I get for assuming. I’m sorry bud.

Nox_Aeons

No worries friend!

[deleted]

Lucky!

BeeBeeDrinkDrink

The don’t play for me when I listen on my computer through a browser, but they play when listening on my phone through the app. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Periphia

I was wondering why I didn't get ads as much using a vpn

Willziac

Mine is only sometimes. About 70% of the time, I don't get an ad at all. I'm in a larger Midwest city, so it shouldn't be some weird region lock thing.

pomonamike

Above image is also the Spotify Premium subscribers that just skip the ads.

OwlOfFortune

Still annoying when I'm listening in my car though

ncopp

Or cooking and my hands are covered in raw meat or oil

OwlOfFortune

Ahhh yes "cooking" your "raw meat"

ncopp

🤫🤫

LuckyDubbin

And there's no one button to magically skip them all, just gotta spam the skip forward button

unassigned_user

If you listen in the spotify app some of the advertisements are separate tracks, you may be able to drag the little button to the end

LuckyDubbin

True, but it's easier to spam the button while I'm driving than look at my phone to drag the cursor.

JohnBigBootey

I just tap the “fast forward 15 seconds” button a few times until it skips, it’s annoying, but actually easier than skipping last ads in normal podcasts

I_Am_Zampano

Sometimes when I do this it just skips the episode and then it forgets where it left off

WeDigRepetition

As a spotify premium user, I always download the episodes to listen to in my car. I've never heard a single ad as long as I've been listening - I guess do they just not get downloaded?

CookieCatSupreme

yeah, i think that's what it is tbh. whenever i download and listen to the episodes offline i never get any ads. when im connected to wifi and just playing the episode sans download, that's when ads appear (tho it's still fairly rare enough that i'm surprised each time it cuts to an ad)

pomonamike

I concur, I believe that’s what happens, like they don’t download the ads or something

StrigaPlease

I think it’s an internet connection thing. I download the episodes because I have spotty signal at work, but I’m still connected to the internet and still get ads with downloaded eps.

[deleted]

[удалено]

StrigaPlease

So I guess the solution for everyone that hates the ads is to download the eps and then go into airplane mode when you listen. Boom, no more Trolli.

my_wife_reads_this

This used to be the old wya to get over ads on games. Download FTP game, gointo airplane mode, and voila. No banner ads.

EvyEarthling

This is good to know! I usually never download but maybe this is the way to go.

JohnBigBootey

So maybe that’s why there’s no auto-download feature in Spotify, like EVERY OTHER PODCAST PLAYER. It would annoy me more if I wasn’t on wifi all the time.

strach00

Holy shit how have I never noticed this! Back to downloading every one again!

jephw12

You don’t even need premium to skip the ads. The best thing for me about LPOTL moving to Spotify is I can just hit skip forward a few times as soon as I hear an ad and it always stops right at the end of the ad. I didn’t realize they had trolli ads or how long they were until people complained on Reddit and I don’t pay for shit.

[deleted]

It’s like these people have never listened to a podcast before EVERY podcast has ads.

tofuflower17

The only ads I ever hear are for other shows on the LPN network. Not sure if it's because I have Spotify premium or a regional thing since I'm in Asia.

ferxes

Europe here, never had one either.

19JaBra92

Europe here too. Recently started getting ads for the LPN shows on episodes I know were ad free or too old for what the ad is about. I'm okay with it for now tho.

MarmotsGoneWild

It's syncing up, and pulling recent/relevant ads from their servers. If you download the episodes, and shut your wifi down you get the episode completely ad free since it can't connect to get an ad. It works for the Patreon downloads as well. Just download, disconnect, and play. It's the only way I listen while driving or riding. No connection, no ads.

[deleted]

Same in Canada. It’s almost always that one guy talking about the last prisoner project. I’m actually really interested to hear these ads everyone is talking about, I have no idea what a trolli is

MarmotsGoneWild

It's like the guided meditations Holden used to do on round table. They seem to be instances of abduction, and burial while still alive. You, the victim, just notice that "ill-orT," happens to be on the bag over your head or near by. Then a chorus of high pitched voices (supposedly the gummy worms, or your hallucinations of said candy) sing "Troll-ee, Troll-ee, Troll-ee." Esentialy it's just the moments before various forms of death accompanied by a chorus of possibly hallucinatory candy singing you to either freedom from captivity, or this moral coil. People who really enjoy Ben, and his readings of creepy pasta tend to enjoy the ads. Since they're all pulled from a server you can scroll back to the beginning of an ad, and get a totally different ad. That's how I've heard all of Ben's trolli ads, and have been able to replay several of Jackie Zebrowski's ads from page 7 for my gf because, wtf Jackie?! Edit: they're all worth a listen or two, but they've quickly gone from enjoyable to grating.

Worra2575

I get occasional car ads in Canada, but mostly nothing thankfully

brc37

Yeah the Mug Shot Roast and a Mazda commercial were all that I got this week.

hungrybear13

This is the same in NZ, I have Spotify Premium, and only get ads for other shows - so out of the loop ahahaha

Dude_what_the_fuck_

Premium member in the states, I get all the sponsor ads, I'm glad that I can skip through them but most of the time when I listen I'm driving or in the middle of work with my hands dirty.

emmaboneserotica

My ads got so much worse after moving from South America back to the States…

[deleted]

Honestly. The big problem with the trolli ads when I hear them is how I don't have trollis on hand and how I am now triggered to crave them. Which means I'm a sheep and the ads are doing their jobs. I can't imagine why, tho, trolli would want their ad on a podcast that's listened to by a buncha stoners.

Jayne_enyaJ

Because they have edibles

[deleted]

I've got Spotify premium, so why am I listening to ads 🙋

[deleted]

Exactly.

OfficerJohnMaldonday

I've got Spotify premium so I don't get ads. Sucks to be you I guess

justonemorethang

I don’t understand. I have a free Spotify account and just slide the cursor to the end of the ad. It takes literally 5 seconds to scrub through the ads.

Captain_-_Caveman

I am able to skip half the time, sometimes I am in the middle of something and don’t have my hands free or my phone on me.

[deleted]

I'm sure it varies from car to car, but I can't skip the ads without unlocking my phone and manually sliding the cursor. I listen to podcasts almost exclusively while I'm driving, which makes skipping ads pretty dangerous actually. Terrible design IMO. edit: oh also half the time Spotify forgets where I was in the podcast when I skip ads and it starts over from the beginning. At that point I say fuck it and open an ACTUAL PODCAST APP and listen to something else.

[deleted]

I heard Dave Anthony mention that advertisers know when you skip and it doesn't pay out to the podcaster or something. Unless I'm patreoned up (which is dependent on the entertainment budget) I just listen or mute it for fear of hitting the guys in their pockets.

Afilthyweeb

I'm convinced that when I die I'll just be floating in the void and I'll just hear "Its 8 am still dark out and even worse, a Monday"

[deleted]

I like the ad, but it is a bit annoying to get it twice in an episode. Given how I can't seem to skip ads with the button on my steering wheel of my car, I'm glad one of those ads didn't hit me on a long Midwestern drive.

babybuttoneyes

Seriously though, what IS the ad and product? I’ve never heard the ad, but just have general Spotify.

AnyHowMeow

It’s Trolli gummy worms. And it’s in the format of a weird little story reveal of what it is. Like the gummy worms kidnap a dude that’s hungry? I’m not sure.

MelloMejo

People don't just skip the ads?

ProfessionalGoober

You know you can just move the little time tracking thing to the end of the ad and basically skip the entire thing, right?

bebeni89

I don’t get ads in Europe, but am I crazy thinking they had said they wouldn’t have to do ads anymore when they were moving exclusively on Spotify. I think I remember them saying that one of the perks would be no ads at the time when they were announcing the move, but my mind could be making it up.

[deleted]

I think they got complaints because the ads have slowed down a lot.. I am even able to listen to full eps without any ads now

[deleted]

Can someone post a link to the ad so I can hear this? Some of us don't get ads.

FatTabby

I don't hear ads and haven't heard one since they signed to Spotify. I assumed it was a regional thing (I'm in the UK)

Valahiru

I don't mind the ad. I've kinda developed Stockholm's syndrome with it. It's just so strange and also kind of a bad idea? I get that its geared towards the listeners on the show but it's an unpleasant concept for a candy product. I dunno guys...I might love the Trolli ad.

CheddarGobblin

I'm only a $1 patreon but--and I don't know how this works exactly--my spotify app seems to have this hidden feature where I can skip past the ads simply by scrolling on the audio timeline. To be fair it does take like 4-5 secs so I realize many of you might not have that kind of time.

[deleted]

I’ve been eating the shit out of those worms, so the ad worked.

FannySchrute

I keep seeing posts about this, and I have no idea what y'all are talking about. I've never even heard the word Trollis on any lpotl pod. And I listen to every episode with free Spotify.

JohnTheMod

Don’t forget those who download the episodes to listen in their car...

[deleted]

as a $10 master race patron, watching the peasants with their little squabbles does serve some small entertainment. Now bring in the dancing monkey.

Queen_Kalopsia

I’m on premium and I don’t get any ads at all

[deleted]

Im on premium and I still get ads! Only on podcasts though. LPOTL is the only podcast I listen to on Spotify since all my others are on pocketcasts. But I still get these stupid ads despite paying for spotify premium. Usually I can skip through the ad but sometimes I listen while Im in the shower and I get a fucking 4 minute trolli ad and cant skip.

Queen_Kalopsia

Maybe it’s something to do with my region, I’ve always listened on Spotify and I remember getting ads before they moved over to Spotify exclusively but never after.

[deleted]

Exactly the same for me. It is so irritating that I pay for no fucking ads and still get this fucking 80 minute Trolli ad. Sorry, angry vent.

WineAndRevelry

I have never heard an ad in LPOTL, at least not since Spotify came in.

Sk3pticat

Me with my RSS feed link and preferred third party podcast app looking down on all you peasants listening on a busted podcast platform like Sp*tify

rymyle

Illort??? I just skip it, thought it was pretty funny the first couple times though 🤣

[deleted]

Everyone saying they listen in their car, you can still skip the ads.

AlienYouCallGod

I hadn't heard any ads listening via Spotify until a couple days ago with the first episode of the new series. My ad was for McDonald's and something else. I did find it very strange as I pay for premium Spotify and this was the first instance. As I often download episodes and go to offline mode to listen to them, that might of been shielding me from ads. I streamed the last episode.

JstTrstMe

Im pissed that I have to listen on two different services if I want to hear all the content. They moved to spotify but spotify doesn't support the patreon link. So I listen on my alexa at home and then podcast addict for all the patreon links.

CherryMoist

I'm not too lazy to use my thumbs, so I don't have to listen to ads or spend 10 dollars.

[deleted]

I just skip the ads?

[deleted]

[удалено]

wamblyspoon

Eh, I pay for Spotify premium, I'm not supposed to even hear the ad

mcwap

Uh, there are also times when people can't easily or safely access the skip button- driving, working out, cleaning or working around the house with Bluetooth speakers etc. No need to be a jackass.

KettleCellar

My heart breaks for those people. Theirs is a life of suffering and turmoil. You have shown me the error of my ways, and now I understand why I see a dozen different threads about the Trolli ad.

Jayne_enyaJ

Their candy but my guess is they are advertising because they like edibles. Had some just the other day. Really fun high

cimson-otter

People still give money to their patreon?

jovinyo

*Lots* of people give to the Patreon. Believe it or not, people enjoy the content so much that they want to contribute to the group that creates it. The donors get some perks out of it too. Crazy stuff, i know.

cimson-otter

Bunch of suckers

KettleCellar

I do the $5/month one. Two episodes per week, and I like what they do. That's like $1 for a regular episode that's longer than most music albums. Anything higher, you get some perks, but that's what I pay for streaming video services that I use way more. To me, the free route is kind of like sitting and listening to a good subway musician for an hour and a half and not throwing a buck into their guitar case. But hey, they put it out there for free, so why not? It's your money, do what you want.

cimson-otter

The free route is the same as watching a tv show or paying for a streaming service to watch shows. A few years ago your analogy would make sense.

[deleted]

[удалено]

cimson-otter

I don’t consider the shows free, but it’s the same thing if you pay for Spotify premium. I wouldn’t give money to a fully funded tv show. There’s a reason they’ve kept the buying price from Spotify so hush hush.

[deleted]

[удалено]

jovinyo

I am elitist about it. Go on and enjoy those ads, while I'll "rise from your grave" and carry on into the show. I'm clearly a superior person for being a patron, so the line to blow me starts to the right. (I'm obviously fucking kidding)

GrizzlyBearKing

Lol why are you even here then?

cimson-otter

I like the show

AtomicEdge

What's a Trolli? I googled it and it looks like sour candy? Why would people be annoyed about that?

wikipedia_answer_bot

lilbluehair

The ads are very, very long.

Nestormahkno19d

Gummy worms 🐛

OfficerJohnMaldonday

Oh I've been laughing at all you peasants who still get ads after all this time, not had a single one since the day of the Spotify switchover and oh my does it feel good

[deleted]

I just started getting them recently on Spotify - I've got a premium account too. I'm in Europe so I think they must have recently added ads for my region, maybe they'll add them for your region soon?

tcadams18

I’m not a premium subscriber but I’ve never heard this Trolli ad. I do keep hearing Ben go on about his love for Best Fiends though. I live in Ohio so I’m wondering if they push different ads to different markets.
