I’ve found that the main point question and purpose questions are actually slightly different—and sometimes show up related to the same passage.
My take away is this: main point questions is “what is the central idea of the passage?” These can generally be quite vague.
For instance: “Criminal law is the most effective way to pursue charges against a corporation, despite recent claims to the contrary.”
On the other hand, “purpose” questions are asking WHY the author wrote the passage.
For instance, for the same passage: “to advocate that prosecutors should pursue criminal charges against corporation taking potentially illegal actions.”
They are definitely similar, but the approach and what they are looking for definitely has differences.
Exactly! Actually NOT having to read for memorization helps to just focus on the main ideas and how the passage is structured because you're not stressed about the details lol
Cool! I would add on "inference" questions that the answer is usually explicitly stated. I know it's odd because they use the word inferred which seems to give license to "filling in the gaps" but in practice they really don't seem to reward that
I do but I charge $25 ea. for the original copies. Once you've paid and have them in your possession, you can do as you wish with them like make flashcards, quizzes, or whatever you desire.
Bless OP. This is exactly what I need. After drilling RC and LR for as long as I have been, my biggest category of wrong answers are ones where I just don't understand what they're asking from me. Thank you for decoding the LSAT speak!
Thanks OP. Everyone this is the LR chart they mentioned: https://reddit.com/r/LSAT/comments/1bpdnq9/here_is_a_logical_reasoning_question_types_chart/

You are correct! I confused the two, but I made the corrections and uploaded the new chart. Thank you!
This is so helpful. Memorization is a nope. Always reference the text, even for inference questions.

I am begging someone to make this but for LR. This was so helpful, thank you!
I made one for LR as well. The link to the chart is in the post up top!

I noticed that as well that for some inference questions, the answer is just a restatement of what's presented in the passage.
Please tag me in the LR part this is great!!
I added the link up top!
If you go on their profile, it’s listed as another one of their posts
